FOREWORD

At Mobile School, we believe that a strong and authentic purpose is the foundation of successful and future proof organisations. Similar

to falling in love, discovering your purpose can lead to intense emotions, heightened awareness of others and increased empathy. It can

provide a sense of motivation and focus that drives individuals and organisations to achieve things they never thought possible before.

Just like love, purpose can have a positive impact on mental health, reducing stress, anxiety, and depression, while increasing feelings of

happiness and satisfaction.

Our quest is to help more people and organisations fall in love. We aspire to support them in deepening their self-awareness and finding

meaning in the projects that will shape their lives. Our goal is to empower them to develop agency and leadership skills and to be part of

the transformations that are needed in society.

In this report, we’re happy share some of the projects we’ve delivered to youth work communities and business communities in 2022.

Global

2022

After two challenging years due to the

COVID-19 pandemic, the StreetSmart Wheels

expeditions returned back to normal in the

past year. In 2022, 5 new mobile school

projects were started by our team of global

trainers. In Uganda, our partner Dwelling Places

started up a mobile school in the capital

Kampala for the high number of children on

the streets after a school closure of 2 years due

to the pandemic. In Bucharest, Romania, our

partner Save the Children started reaching out

to children from Ukrainian families who are

fleeing the ongoing war in their home country.

In the Malawian capital Lilongwe, one of

our mobile schools was restarted with our new

partner YONECO after an inactivity of over 2

years. In Tbilisi, Georgia we were finally able to

kick-off our mobile school project which was on

hold for two years due to the pandemic. And

finally in Souf Camp in Jordan - near the city

of Jerash - our partner ILearn started the first

mobile school project in the Middle East

region in a camp for Palestinian refugees.

Besides the 5 new implementations, the

Wheels team invested a lot in the prospection

of new partner organisations, to secure

the growth of the StreetSmart Wheels network

in the coming years. Prospections were

organised in Colombia (2), Mexico, Uganda,

Jordan, Sierra Leone, Nepal and South Africa.

Some of these prospections will lead to new

implementations in 2023. Besides prospections

and implementations, the team also organised

3 follow-up visits for active partner projects in

Poland, Lithuania and Togo. To meet the demand

of our European partners who started working

with Ukrainian children who were fleeing the

war, we also translated some of our educational

materials into Ukrainian. These materials were

distributed and discussed during a seminar in

Krakow in Poland for 3 Polish and 2 Greek partner

organisations. During all the expeditions organised

in 2022, just over 200 youth workers were

trained by the StreetSmart Wheels team.

The high number of StreetSmart Wheels

expeditions coincided in the end with a lot of

mobile school activity from our partner network. In

comparison with the difficult years 2020 and

2021, we noticed solid growth in the number of

sessions and the number of children reached, on

all four continents. In total, the network conducted

2714 sessions with the mobile school and

reached 57 452.

In 2022, StreetSmart Impact was actively used

by Habbekrats (44 users), the Municipality of

Evergem (3 users), vzw Lejo Aalst (10 users),

OverKop Genk (1 general profile used for the

entire team) and by 15 StreetSmart Wheels

partners. Our current clients are very positive

about our tool and recommend it to other youth

workers. Jef Prové, the team coordinator of vzw

Lejo Aalst, for example, says the following:

“StreetSmart Impact help us show both the

quantitative and qualitative impact we have as

an organisation. The biggest strengths are its

ease of use, its customisability, the clear reports

and the support you get from the StreetSmart

team.”

Other youth work organisations showed an

interest in StreetSmart Impact as well. With every

interested organisation, we first set up an

intake call and give a demo of our tool, to verify

if our tool meets their registration needs. If so,

a three-hour onboarding workshop is organised,

during which we customise StreetSmart

Impact to the specific way of working of the organisation

and during which the youth workers

actively get to know the app and the web

platform, so they can immediately start using

StreetSmart Impact in their day-to-day work.

In 2022, 19 demos were given and 3 organisations

decided to start testing StreetSmart Impact

for a year: Safe Space vzw (9 users), De Moeve

vzw (5 users) and De Plek (14 users).

Our StreetSmart Wheels partners can use

StreetSmart Impact as well to track their activities

and participants and to follow up on the personal

development of the children and youth they work

with. In 2022, 14 StreetSmart Wheels partners

received the StreetSmart Impact demo and onboarding

workshop.

Based on the feedback of all StreetSmart Impact

users, new developments were made to the app

and the web platform, to make them even more

user-friendly. The new updates were released in

July and in October.

Leuven / Belgium

2022

In 2022, different initiatives were taken by the

team to strengthen our on- and offline educational

offer for youth workers. A total of 16 new

educational videos were recorded in the office

and uploaded on Youtube and StreetSmart

Play to explain to youth workers how to use

some of the newly developed health panels.

Moreover, the team also tried to meet the

demand of our European partner organisations

who were suddenly confronted with a new

target group: Ukrainian children who were

fleeing the war in their home country with

their families. Therefore, the StreetSmart team

translated 9 educational games into Ukrainian.

These materials were combined with a video

(translated in 6 different languages) which

explains how to work with refugee children.

All the materials are accessible for free on

StreetSmart Play so that all youth workers

around the globe have free access to them.

The expansion of the StreetSmart Wheels network

also created the need for more translations

and cultural adaptations of the existing

educational materials. Our materials were

therefore translated in new languages such as

Arabic, Nepali (Nepal), Luganda (Uganda), Karamajong

(Uganda) and Georgian.

Our package in Romanian also received a makeover

for the implementation of a new mobile

school in Bucharest.

During the year 2022, more games were also

added to our online platform StreetSmart Play.

9 new concepts were uploaded from our StreetwiZe

Connected Leadership expedition with

Exellys and Telenet in the Red Cross Centre for

asylum seekers in Pelt. Besides these new games,

the team also made sure all of the StreetSmart

panels (except the full offer on language and

mathematics) are now online available for all

youth workers.

In 2022, StreetSmart Play saw a steady growth in

its user base, with a total of 8107 users engaging

with the platform. These users generated a

significant amount of traffic, with 34806 page

views and 11232 sessions, of which 3404 lasted

over 60 seconds. On average, users viewed

3.1 pages per session, indicating that they were

exploring the site in depth. Last year, 383 new

users signed up to StreetSmart Play. Additionally,

1489 manual downloads were made, highlighting

the usefulness of the platform resources.

As we reflect on the past two years, we’re

really proud of the progress we’ve made with

StreetSmart Learn - a free, online learning

environment designed to support the professional

development of youth workers,

educators and social workers. The platform

provides a variety of learning resources,

including online courses, programmes and

good practices on topics such as play-based

learning, psychology, and inclusive youth work.

The platform also includes specific support

trainings for our other StreetSmart products.

This innovative solution addresses the growing

need for accessible and flexible professional

development opportunities for youth workers

and educators across Europe, enabling users to

gain new skills and knowledge, regardless of

their location or schedule. The platform is also

designed to be highly interactive, with a range

of multimedia resources and social features

that encourage users to engage with each other

and share their experiences.

The development of StreetSmart Learn was

a collaborative effort between three organisations:

Mobile School vzw, PRAKSIS, and

Save the Children Romania, co-funded by the

European Union (Erasmus+). The platform was

developed over the course of two years.

In 2022, we focused on launching StreetSmart

Learn both within and outside our network. We

organised various multiplier events to disseminate

and scale the developed learning platform.

In Belgium, we held an on-location and an

online event in June and August, which included

a keynote speaker on lifelong learning and

a demo of StreetSmart Learn. In Greece and

Romania, we organised virtual multiplier events

in July and September, respectively. Since its

launch, StreetSmart Learn has received positive

feedback from users and has been actively

promoted through a range of channels, including

online webinars, social media, and live events

like conferences.

Overall, StreetSmart Learn represents an important

step forward in the field of youth work and education.

By providing a free, accessible, and flexible

learning environment, where also webinars

on other youth work topics can be hosted, the

platform has the potential to support the professional

development of a wide range of youth

workers and educators, and to help them better

serve the needs of young people in their communities.

All Children, All Right(s) was a collaborative

project, co-funded by the European

Union (Erasmus+), that aimed to develop an

educational toolkit to promote the rights of

children and youth, with a particular focus on

youth work. The project brought together 4

partners from Belgium (2), Greece, and

Germany, who worked together to create

four components for this toolkit: educational

posters, games and activities, audio stories and

online learning programmes.

Monthly meetings were held to review progress

and work on the project results, as well as an

onsite meeting in Thessaloniki (Greece) to start

the design process of the posters.

Together with illustrator Gijs Vanhee, the team

created 11 educational posters, covering topics

such as children’s rights in general, the

right to survival, development, protection and

participation. The posters feature five main

characters, based on true stories of children and

child peace award winners, with accompanying

audio stories.

To ensure the educational posters were effective

and engaging, the partners tested them with

their target audience and provided feedback to

the illustrator. Each poster includes as well at

least three activities for children. In addition to

the posters, audio stories, and activities, six online

learning programmes on the same topics as the

posters were also developed. The creation of

these learning programmes began in July 2022

and will be hosted on StreetSmart Learn.

By the end of 2022, the only remaining tasks

were creating the graphical elements of the

online training, creating the video content, and

translating the training into French, Spanish, and

Dutch. These final steps are scheduled for completion

in the first few months of 2023, along

with recording the audio stories in six languages

(EN, NL, FR, ES, EL, DE).

The All Children, All Right(s) project represents

an important step for our organisation, as it has

allowed us to create new materials and integrate

existing materials into topic-related toolkits. This

approach offers a holistic approach for youth professionals

and will help us to integrate our digital

products, StreetSmart Play and StreetSmart

Learn. The project has been a great success, and

we look forward to sharing this toolkit and online

programmes inside and outside our network in

2023.

StreetwiZe offers a unique blend of inspiration

and education through its keynote presentations.

These presentations draw from the

personal stories of its founders, Arnoud Raskin

and Bram Doolaege, as well as the experiences

of street children whom they have worked with.

Keynotes cover topics that are both relevant

to business and society, making them a powerful

tool for business transformation and leadership

development.

In 2022, StreetwiZe added two new keynotes

to its portfolio: “Purpose & Performance” and

“Talent is overrated”. These were added to the

existing topics of “Self-Leadership” and

“Change Maker Leadership”, allowing

StreetwiZe to offer a wider range of options for

businesses and organisations. With a total of

38 keynotes delivered in 2022, StreetwiZe has

proven to be a reliable and effective source of

inspiration for companies of all sizes.

What sets StreetwiZe apart from other keynote

speakers is its focus on authenticity and personal

experience. The stories shared by Arnoud Raskin

and Bram Doolaege are not just theoretical

musings or abstract concepts, but rather real-life

experiences that have shaped their thinking

and approach to business. By sharing these experiences,

StreetwiZe is able to connect with its

to environments that are completely

unknown to them, forcing them to step out of

their comfort zone and allowing them to develop

their leadership skills on a personal level.

One of the key aspects that make these expeditions

so impactful are the type of organisations

that StreetwiZe partners up with. These organisations

are closely linked to the core values of

StreetwiZe and include a youth work organisation

in Iasi, Romania, a prison in Leuven,

a youth detention center in Beernem, and a

At StreetwiZe, we support the work of

StreetSmart but are daily driven first and

reflected in our tailored programmes. In these

programmes, we use our various standard

In a factory environment, it is impossible to get

started via classical training and facilitation.

In the guidance and personal development

on coaching on the shop floor. Just like at the

StreetwiZe Top Workshops

1/1/2022 • 31/12/2022

StreetwiZe trainers

(Future) StreetwiZe clients

Belgium & The Netherlands

In 2022, the most popular workshops were

Positive Focus, Pitching, and Storytelling.

These three workshops address essential skills

that can be applied in various settings. Positive

Focus is about spotting opportunities and shifting

our behaviour to focus on things that work

well, ultimately leading to better outcomes for

individuals and companies alike. It is a starting

point for any meaningful collaboration, as it

allows us to approach the world positively and

with an open mind.

Storytelling, on the other hand, is a skill that

goes beyond just telling a story. It involves

conveying the “why” of our commitment to

others and touching emotions to inspire and

move people. Storytelling is about bringing a

message, vision, or mission to life in a way that

convinces people and gets our message across

effectively.

The popularity of these workshops can be

attributed to the need for team members to stay

engaged in times of change and uncertainty. By

equipping individuals with these skills, they can

adapt to new circumstances, approach problems

with positivity, and effectively communicate their

ideas and plans to others.

Cynicism and purpose-driven work are opposing

forces, and focusing on the negative aspects of a

problem can often be unproductive. Instead, it is

essential to shift our focus to the positive and see

opportunities where others may only see problems.

Positive Focus, Storytelling, and Pitching

are just some of the skills that can help individuals

and companies navigate uncertain times

successfully.

IMPACT

2022

Lastly, Pitching is a technique that helps us increase

our impact when selling an idea, plan,

or project. It involves consciously bringing a

message in a short period and engaging the

audience to elicit a specific response. Pitching

requires honed sales skills and an ability to

convince people through speech, making our

idea or ourselves top-of-mind.

Volunteers

Despite not having a structured offer for

primary and secondary schools in Belgium, we

always try to respond to schools that ask us if

there is an opportunity to learn more about

Mobile School. At primary schools, we take the

mobile school with us and let the children play

with it alongside an explanation of what we do

and why we do it the way we do it.

This way, they support both MobileSchool.org

and all street children worldwide in giving them

a voice.

Belgium

At secundary schools, we present Mobile

School without actually taking the physical

school with us. We show some videos and

reflect on the talents and strengths of street

children. In both types of schools, we work

towards the conclusion that street children are

incredibly talented, resilient and agile and that

we can learn of them in different ways.

IMPACT

Taking into consideration our hybrid social

enterprise and our wish for impact on the

streets, we ask schools to contribute financially

At MobileSchool.org we have the best volunteers

in the world! Without them, we would

not be able to do what we do. We attach great

importance to keeping our wonderful volunteers

connected with the organisation and with

each other and to informing them about the

ongoing projects of the organisation, which

is why we organise several activities for them

throughout the year.

In January, we organised the online escape

we organised a volunteer weekend. 19 volunteers

followed a Masterclass on ‘purpose’ given

Kessel-Lo and no less than 60 people turned

up. Finally a Mobile School Café was organised

in October. After an inspirational keynote given

by Junieth - a former street child and now the

Partnership Coordinator of our European and

Latin American StreetSmart Wheels Partners -

about 20 volunteers were able to find out more

about various ongoing Mobile School projects

and were able to connect informally as well.

To keep our volunteers updated throughout the

year, we also sent out 9 newsletters.

Since we have the best volunteers in the world,

as an organisation it is important for us to make

sure we are meeting our volunteers’ needs

with our offer. To evaluate our current volunteer

strategy, we organised an online meeting with

our volunteers and, afterwards, sent out a survey

to all volunteers that could not take part to get

their valuable feedback as well. Based on this

feedback, we drew up an activity plan for 2023.

People interested in MobileSchool.org can take

part in an info evening, during which they get

to know all there is to know about our organisation

and can “meet” the mobile school. In 2022,

3 info evenings were organised. In total, 10

new people have been informed about Mobile-

School.org.

Online campaign

In April 2022, COVID was still present and the

financial situation was pretty difficult which

is why we decided to organise a combined

visibility and fundraising campaign selling

street wear. We designed two types of prints

and sold around 200 tshirts - both for adults

and children - and baby bodysuits.

The sales campaign was online and mainly

focused on our local and national fans and

followers. Our volunteers helped boosting

sales and supported us in the handling of

logistics.

Even though this campaign stayed limited to

200 pieces, for a small social enterprise like

Mobile School, it is still pretty impressive to

have 200 people in Belgium walk around with

our logo on their tshirt.

Every time one of our shirts is proudly worn, we

hope people are triggered and Streetkids get

the attention they deserve.

Fundraising

Herent / Belgium

2022

On 25 May 2022, we organised the third

edition of our fundraising party #FeestMee.

This year, for the first time, we cooperated

with GC De Wildeman. During COVID, they

built a temporary pop-up theater from scratch

in a warehouse building in Herent, Belgium:

“Hangar 3020”. After 8 months, the theater had

to be taken down and Mobile School was given

the opportunity to organise #FeestMee as the

closing party.

It was a big success! In total, 550 people came

and danced the night away, on the great beats

of the three female DJ’s that have become

#FeestMee “regulars”: Miss Charlie, Ilse Liebens

and Anda Ackx. All profits went to Mobile

School.

We are already looking forward to the next

#FeestMee edition!

20th anniversary of MS

Leuven / Belgium

2022

More than 560 passionate supporters united

to walk through the beautiful city of Leuven

and its surroundings for the eighth edition

of the #DuwMee sponsored walk, held on 17

December 2022. This year, the event had a

special significance as it celebrated Mobile

School’s 20th anniversary.

Participants had various options to take part

in the route, starting from Mechelen (60 km),

Leuven (30 km), Blanden (18 km), Sint-Joris-

Weert (13 km) or Heverlee (5 km). Walkers

were treated to surprise entertainment, hot

drinks and heart-warming conversations with

each other, keeping them warm and motivated

throughout the walk despite the cold weather.

The grand finale of the event was a final show

that also marked Mobile School’s birthday

celebration. Attendees enjoyed various acts

and delicious snacks while waiting for the announcement

of the total amount raised during

the #DuwMee event. This year’s campaign was

a great success, with generous donations and

support from both individuals and organisations

alike. In total, we raised over €55.000.

All funds raised during #DuwMee will be invested

in existing Mobile School projects and used

to launch new projects that will support street

children and street workers around the world.

The #DuwMee walk is not only an essential fundraising

event for Mobile School, but it also raises

awareness about Mobile School’s mission and

reminds us of the importance of empowering

vulnerable populations worldwide.

As the event came to an end, participants left with

heartwarming memories of the special edition

of #DuwMee. The event provided an opportunity

for all types of people to come together, enjoy a

beautiful walk and raise money for a good cause.

“We have been using StreetSmart Wheels materials for several years now, and it’s an important part of our activities. We find the StreetSmart Wheels

materials very useful, attractive and challenging for our children. In all the communities where we go and use these materials, we get positive feedback

from both children and adults.”
