Creator Connection
July 2023
Welcoming all to Worship, Grow, and Serve in God’s Grace.
Pastor’s Corner
A message from Pastor Amanda
Grace and Peace to you from God our Father
and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
This year I have more
4th of July decorations
than over before. I should
not be surprised since
last year my husband,
Pastor Horacio, became
a US Citizen. Having lived
abroad and repatriated
and now having a new
citizen in my home, I have
new eyes this July 4th. In
a time when so much can
bring us apart, we also
can be united in prayer
and recognition of God’s
blessing and power in our
world.
For me a place to
begin to reflect is in
the songs we sing as a
congregation. Over the
years, I have wrestled with
how to celebrate the 4th
of July as a congregation
in order to celebrate and
have perspective at the
same time. Our hymnal
has many of our patriotic
songs grouped together in
the end. I tend to choose
Finlandia — This is My
Song, ELW 887 - for us to
sing on the Sunday closest
to July 4th. I like this hymn
because it recognizes
that our heart is here in
our country where our
hopes and dreams reside
and that citizens of other
countries feel the same
about their homelands. I
want us to walk the line of
celebrating our country and
remembering who is King
of Kings and Lord of Lords.
I want us to be reminded,
as Martin Luther included
in the small catechism, that
good government is part
of the daily bread that God
provides. It is important
that we do not place our
hope or our despair first
and foremost in our nation
but rather in God.
This country that we all
call home, is indeed a gift
from God. It is how God
provides for us in many,
many ways. In our country
we exercise our free will
where it is indeed free — in
the daily decisions of our
lives — in all that involves
our neighbors. We have
the freedom to agree and
disagree, to use our basic
rights and to pursue life,
liberty and the pursuit
of happiness. What our
elected leaders decide
whether on a federal, state or
community level impacts our
lives directly. And over all, God
provides, blesses and forgives.
At Creator, we celebrate the
abundance of perspectives
and most importantly return to
the center of our life and faith,
the cornerstone, who is Jesus
Christ.
This month during Theology
on Tapps we will be looking
at some of our favorite songs
and what they say. Sometimes
songs are worth learning
because the words are right on;
it may take a few tries but we
want you to have your hope in
the right place. We want you to
have your heart sing thanks to
God for blessings and ask for
provision of those things that
God has promised to provide.
We want you to be centered
in God’s Word and Promise
knowing that God will then bring
you out into our community,
country and even world to live
Ministry
out the blessings that we have
as Christians and as people
who call the United States
home.
This July as we worship
together, as we gather children
into our building for Vacation
Bible School, as we send our
youth to Kentucky and as we
live our lives throughout the
week, let us sing together for
God’s blessing for the year
ahead for our country and for
each of us who call this country
home.
O Beautiful for spacious skies, for
amber waves of grain, for purple
mountains majesties above the
fruited plain: America! America!
God shed his grace on thee,
and crown they good with
brotherhood from sea to shining
sea. To which we can say, Amen.
Thoughts on
Fellowship
Teaching on baptism during
Adult Ed this past spring, Pastor
Horacio reminded us that
baptism is a gift, with reference
to the scripture found in John
15:16 where Jesus says: “you
did not choose me, I chose you.”
Often, we confuse this message
and separate grace and faith,
as if we choose to have faith,
which almost suggests we are
doing something to receive
God’s grace. Faith also is a
gift as indicated in Ephesians
2:8-10 “for by grace you have
been saved, through faith, this
is not your own doing, it is a gift
from God, not the result of your
works.” These passages are
reminders of God’s incredible
love for us, and the desire He has
for a relationship with us. When
we consider God’s unconditional
love for us, and Jesus’ sacrifice
so that we can be in relationship
with him, how does this influence
your thoughts on stewardship?
Realizing God’s love for
us can be the motivation for
a response of generosity,
whether by giving to Creator,
other places in the community,
volunteering at church or serving
during worship, and praying for
one another. Living in the Lake
Tapps area, we can be inspired
by the beauty of Mt. Rainier, the
lake itself, and all of the outdoor
activities that allow us to witness
God’s unique creation.
The beauty of this area
can also be a reminder of the
presence of God in our lives.
The care of God is evident in His
creation. In Matthew we read:
25 “Therefore I tell you, do
not worry about your life, what
you will eat or drink; or about
your body, what you will wear.
Is not life more than food, and
the body more than clothes? 26
Look at the birds of the air; they
do not sow or reap or store away
in barns, and yet your heavenly
Father feeds them. Are you not
much more valuable than they?
God has never needed us,
He only wants us (in relationship
with Him). We are chosen, we
are cared for. We can trust in
Him.
We are blessed to serve and support Pastors Amanda and Horacio and recently celebrated
Confirmation and Pentecost. With only one service at 9:30AM this is an opportunity to accommodate
vacation schedules. We are always looking to add more members to our ranks and this is the perfect
time to check in before or after service to ask questions. Please stop by the sacristy or stop one of the
altar guild members. We would be delighted to answer your questions or set up a training appointment.
Peace to you!
