Bainlea House
completes beautiful
refurbishment
Rangiora Lifecare’s Bainlea House is aspecialist
dementia care home in the heart of Rangiora.
It is avibrant facility which offers aholistic,
person-centred approach for people living
with dementia that focuses on the ability of the
individual rather than the disability.Bainlea
House maintains strong ties to the community
and as the sole local provider has adeep
understanding of the distinctive needs and
preferences of the area.
Over the past 18 months the small-scale facility
has undergone an extensive refurbishment --
transforming the living room, dining room and
bedrooms into spaces that are light, warm and
welcoming for both residents and their families.
Bainlea House is designed to feel like a
home, not ahospital. As part of the meticulous
upgrade, several rooms have been reconfigured
to optimise the layout and improve accessibility.
The dining room has been adorned with new
furniture to ensure apleasant dining experience,
and new lighting ensures acomfortable and
aesthetically pleasing environment for residents.
To further enhance safety and accessibility, the
handrails have been upgraded throughout the
premises.
“Weare delighted to see the positive impact
of the recent upgrades to Bainlea House,” says
Gail Kerse, Care Home Manager at Rangiora
Lifecare. “The feedback we have received from
With Goose the pet therapy dog and his handler Sally Elliott, are (from left) Gail Kerse (Care
Home Manager), Julie Fox (RN at Bainlea) and Carol Ritchie (Clinical manager).
residents and their families has been truly
heartwarming,” she says.
Beyond the walls, anew sensory garden is
being developed with the help of residents,
where vegetable and flower gardens will
flourish. The garden will include carefully
designed areas where residents can sit and
enjoy the outdoors in atranquil setting.
Bainlea House boasts afulland rich activity
programme, ensuring that residents have
abundant opportunities for socialisation,
mental stimulation and physical exercise.
Twodiversional therapists expertly curate
social interactions, keeping residents busy
and content, says Kerse. The intention is to
enhance well-being and allow residents to
remain active in everyday life, in ways that
mirror their lifelong hobbies and preferences
-- such as baking, preparing vegetables, chores
and crafts. Regular outings to events and shows
are organised, allowing residents to remain
connected to the local community.
Bainlea House is one of three facilities owned
by Rangiora Lifecare in the North Canterbury
township. The purpose-built dementia care
home has 27 beds and caters to long-term and
respite care. It is operated by clinical staff with
advanced training in dementia care services
who are chosen for their empathy and patience.
Families of loved ones living with dementia can
have peace of mind knowing their loved ones
are receiving personalised, quality care and
attention.
Bainswood on Victoria offers rest home and
hospital care, while Bainswood Rest Home
and Retirement Village offer rest home care,
serviced apartments, and independent living
villas. The three facilities were acquired by
