ROBERTO MILANI
People like coming to Roberto Milani.
A session with him leaves them feeling
deeply relaxed and satisfied. He is the
spa manager at Bad Moos, responsible
for over 2,000 square metres of pure
well-being. Roberto started as a masseur
in 2014, meaning that he worked with
the unforgettable late owner Erwin
Lanzinger. Over the years, he completed
several additional training courses
and eventually became the head
of the entire spa area, overseeing its
continuous improvement and expansion.
In Roberto’s world, a lot revolves around
water. And not just any water, but water
from the hotel’s own St. Valentin’s spring.
“We use the water in three different
ways: First, for the drinking cure, using
various springs around the hotel, then
for steam baths for inhalation and to
strengthen the respiratory tract in the
Bagno Turco. Thermal baths are the
third application; they strengthen the
skin and hair and also the muscles.” The
spring water has also been found to help
with psoriasis.
Naturally, someone like Roberto, who
has so much to do with health and
well-being, is also active in his free time.
“I love to hike in the area and unwind
while doing so. When you grow up in
the mountains like I did, surrounded by
beautiful nature, you appreciate it. And
there are so many beautiful places here.”
Sexten, an idyllic
MOUNTAIN MASSIF. NATURE PARK. PLACE OF LONGING.
12
The Three Peaks, with their azure blue sky, lush green Alpine meadows, and
gleaming white dolomite rock, are a remarkably beautiful sight and have
been captured in thousands of pictures. Mountain enthusiasts have always
been drawn to the three craggy peaks – known as the Cima Piccola/Kleine
Zinne (small peak), Cima Occidentale/Westliche Zinne (western peak),
and Cima Grande/ Große Zinne (big peak). Climbers have been seeking
out the 2,999m Cima Grande/Große Zinne since the first ascent in 1869,
making the mountain massif one of the most popular destinations in the
Alps. But the UNESCO World Heritage site is not just for experienced
climbers; an easy circular hike takes you through the 11-hectare Three
Peaks Nature Park in just four hours, allowing you to experience its scenic
uniqueness and magical beauty up close.
10 USEFUL TIPS FOR
PROSPECTIVE MOUNTAINEERS
20
SO THAT YOU CAN CONCENTRATE
ON WHAT MATTERS,
HERE ARE OUR MOST
IMPORTANT TIPS:
1. Choose a suitable tour for your fitness level and the time of year.
2. Familiarise yourself with the route: Get maps and tips.
3. Check the weather conditions and remember that mountain weather
can change quickly.
4. Bring plenty of provisions: Dried fruit, nuts, bananas, and wholegrain
bread provide energy.
5. Refreshing water or warming tea is essential for staying hydrated.
6. Wear suitable footwear with a non-slip sole that gives you support
and protects you from injury.
7. Choose clothes that give you freedom of movement, keep you warm
or cool enough, and are breathable.
8. Dress according to the onion principle: With many layers. For the
bottom layer, it’s best to wear Merino wool or dry-fit material.
9. Set off early on your hike: The mountains can be dangerous after
sundown.
10. Respect nature, i.e. dispose of rubbish at home, avoid noise, and
respect plants and wildlife.
PS: MAKE SURE YOU SAVE THE EMERGENCY NUMBER IN YOUR
PHONE AND INFORM AT LEAST ONE PERSON OF YOUR EXACT
ITINERARY AS A PRECAUTION.
GIOVANNI
TOGNI’S
CREATIVE
CLASSICS
44
GIOVANNI TOGNI
Giovanni Togni, the head chef at Bad
Moos since 2021, has a passion for
combining modernity with tradition. He
grew up in Lombardy and loves to treat
guests to a blend of tempting Alpine
and Mediterranean delicacies after an
eventful day. “Take bread dumplings,
for example, you don’t always have to
enhance them with speck, liver, or cheese.
Spinach, pumpkin, or mushrooms are
also very complementary,” says Giovanni.
Giovanni takes pride in his Feel Good
menus, which consist of well-balanced
meals made with high-quality ingredients
that do not put unnecessary strain on
the digestive system. You’ll feel the
effects of this healthy eating in no time,
experiencing a new sense of lightness.
“Pamper yourself with healthy, natural,
and high-quality ingredients to improve
your quality of life,” suggests Giovanni.
Many of the wholesome ingredients
come from local farmers. At Bad Moos,
we have been working with producers
from the surrounding area for many years,
building mutual trust. The chef is also
a keen mushroom forager and enjoys
summer hikes and winter skiing and ski
tours as a way to relax from his work in
the kitchen. “We also live in a privileged
location here; we have everything on
our doorstep,” he says. So, what are his
favourite dishes? “The classics that have
never gone out of fashion. Barley soup,
Gröstl – a speck, onion, and potato fryup
– and kraut, those are among my
personal favourites.”
THE CHARLIE
EXPERIENCE
54
CARLO DI GIOIA
Meet Carlo di Gioia, affectionately
known as Charlie to our guests. He is
an expert in all things beautiful. Erwin
Lanzinger hired him in 2014 to design
the new spa area at Bad Moos. Carlo
soon became a highly esteemed sauna
expert and the inventor of the Danza
Aromatica. “Danza is a special form of
infusion that involves lower temperatures,
which create a warmer and more
comforting experience for the body. To
add to the ambience, classical music
and film music with legendary works by
Ennio Morricone are played, creating a
special harmony,” he reveals.
For the spring to autumn period, when
more guests are drawn to the outdoors,
Charlie organised a wide variety of outdoor
activities. These include popular
excursions, such as that to the Locatelli
mountain hut at the base of the Three
Peaks, as well as lesser-known trails like
the one leading up to Monte Casella.
Charlie’s outdoor programmes have
now expanded to be available throughout
the year and offer a wider variety of
options than ever before. Some of the
newer offerings include snowmobile rides
to view the sunrise at the Three Peaks,
tobogganing with a stop at a mountain
hut, and helicopter tours to explore the
Dolomites. Charlie is passionate about
helping people forget the stress of the
everyday and indulge in the pleasures
of life. As a certified wine and cheese
sommelier, he knows exactly how to live
life to the fullest.
FROM A SMALL FARM
BATHHOUSE TO A
MODERN WELLNESS
CENTRE.
The bathing springs at Bad Moos have been a popular
destination for over 350 years. The first bathhouse was
built in 1800, but it experienced its boom in the 19th
century when tourism took hold of Val Pusteria/Pustertal.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the stately inn
offered bathing and drinking cures from three springs,
of which the St. Valentin sulphur spring, recognised as
a mineral water source, is still in use today. In 2005,
Dr Erwin Lanzinger, a true pioneer of tourism in Alta
Pusteria/Hochpustertal, revived the old “Bauernbadl”
farm bath house and made it what it is today: One of
the leading wellness and well-being oases in the Alps.
ARRIVING AT BAD
MOOS IS LIKE
COMING HOME
64
BRIGITTE MAIR
Brigitte Mair has been part of Bad
Moos for over 40 years. The Sexten
native started as a receptionist at
the age of 17. Today she manages the
reception and has a lot to do in the back
office. Despite her busy schedule, she still
interacts with guests, bringing a wealth
of experience to the table.
Over time, a lot has changed, and many
things have happened. “The hotel has
grown significantly since its early days
as a sports hotel. It has been enlarged
and improved, and the Mühlenhof was
added across the street,” she recalls.
While some may reminisce about the
good old days, many things have also
improved. Over the years, the hotel has
welcomed numerous holidaymakers
who have become regulars and even
friends. “You get to know the guests; you
know what is important to them, what
special wishes they have,” says Brigitte
Mair. Based on this knowledge, Brigitte
and her colleagues prepare everything
accordingly. “It is important to us that
our guests feel welcome and that their
arrival feels like a homecoming,” she
adds.
Many guests come to Bad Moos to
recover from the stress of everyday
life. The more demanding their lives
are at home, the more important it is to
have an oasis like Bad Moos as a place
of retreat. The unique combination of
nature, outdoor experiences, wellness,
comfort, and exceptional cuisine works
wonders against stress. Even if the
journey was tiring, arriving at Bad Moos
feels like coming home and provides
solace for body and soul.
WE PAY ATTENTION
TO DETAIL.
EVERYWHERE
AND ALWAYS.
Legend has it that during the full moon,
two deer would come to drink from the
Bad Moos sulphur water spring. They
grew to become the strongest and largest
in the area. Unfortunately, conflict and
chaos drove them away, leaving only
the resort’s logo as a reminder of their
once-mighty presence. However, almost
two decades ago, we made a joyous
discovery: The deer have returned and
are happily roaming the forests around
our spring once again.
A CONCEPT IN
WHICH EVERYTHING
FLOWS TOGETHER
At Bad Moos, water is our source of
strength and inspiration, whether it’s
bubbling from our sulphur spring or
forming snow crystals on the surrounding
mountains. We’ve embraced this element
wholeheartedly, which is why we’ve
chosen “Aqua Spa Resort” as our new
tagline. By emphasising water as our
core competency, we aim to convey the
rejuvenation and relaxation that you’ll
experience during your stay with us.
