like to be remembered?
These are some of the questions explored in the songs
of Troy Russell, a Biripai and Gamillaroi musician
and composer whose work reflects his rich personal
connection to history and place. By experiencing
these songs performed by Troy, violinist Susie Bishop,
Rhythm, water and movement
The musicians of Taikoz are back. Be enchanted by the
flow and rhythm of water, as they join forces with renowned
choreographer Paulina Quinteros and a solo dancer in this
exciting version of their acclaimed show, Water Mirror.
Through an engaging exploration of dance, rhythm,
soundscapes and improvised movement, students
learn how they can listen to music in new ways to create
dances and music of their own, and express themselves
meaningfully through movement.
Finding your musical balance
Two Wheel Time Machine takes students and teachers
on a journey to discover that performing and creating
music is just like learning to ride a bike. Inspired by the
musicians’ unique musical palette of indie-rock, jazz and
conventional chamber music, students will learn how
music can be created through happy accidents as they
lose their “training wheels” and discover simple tools with
which to improvise.
Torres Strait song and dance
While childhood games may just seem like pure fun, they
are also an important record of our history. From spinning
tops to string figures, First Nations ensemble Wyniss show
how music, culture and history are passed on through
generations. By comparing their own childhood games to
those from the Torres Strait, students come to understand
the importance of traditions, and to be thankful to those
who teach them.
