Hello Mini Rex Family,
The time is drawing near for the BIG celebration of
the American Rabbit Breeders Association. 100
YEARS!!
Who knew that people were excited about rabbits
since 1923!
I would like to Thank Mark Charles for his past
service for many years to the club.
Scattered throughout the newsletter are blast from
the past pictures of people past and present who
have contributed to the club.
Of course, our breed was not established until,
1986. 63 Years later! There are so many breeds that
have been added since the ARBA’s inception.
Since this years’ convention was moved from the
end of October to the first week of October it sure
makes it hard to get the rabbits ready for the big
show. There are lots of my rabbits that are
molting. Groom, groom, groom and hope for the
best!!
I have included a picture of the first group of
people that started the National Mini Rex Rabbit
club and also, a picture of Mona Berryhill, our
developer of the Mini Rex breed.
I know I am excited about this years’ ARBA
convention!
Hope to see you there!!
Greetings,
Convention is just around the corner! By the time you
read this some of us will be in our final preparations or
even on our way to Louisville. While you are loading up,
save some room for a raffle item for our scholarship
raffle or an item for our banquet auction. Our banquet at
Churchill Downs will be a phenomenal event! Make sure
to dress your best in your Derby Day outfit! Don’t forget
to get your Trio Raffle tickets as well. This is a great
fundraiser for the club and tickets are on sale on the
NMRRC website. You do not need to be present to win
but are responsible for the transportation.
Due to a busy schedule Mark Charles has recently
stepped down from the position of District 6 Director. I
would like to thank Mark for his dedication to the
NMRRC Board. Mark has been a constant on the board
for many years and his contributions to the board and
club as a whole are appreciated.
I would also like to welcome Laurie Limrite to the
NMRRC Board as the District 6 Director. You will
likely recognize Laurie’s name most recently as part of
the web committee. Laurie has done a great job on the
web committee always looking for ways to improve the
clubs social media communication and web design.
As you have read in the past couple of newsletters. The
NMRRC has been in pursuit of a Vice President that
would like to learn the policy and procedures of the club
with an intention to later become President. Well the
search continues, however, Julie Stewart has agreed to
take on the role of Vice President while we continue our
search. I am looking forward to working with Julie and
the value she will bring the board.
The club is moving forward with revisions for our
upcoming guidebook edition. If you have any articles or
information you would like to have added to the
guidebook, please contact Lizz Beason
MBRMiniRex@gmail.com. Please also reach out to Lizz
if you are interested in being a part of this committee.
We could use one or two more members that would be
willing to proof read and gather new articles for
publication in the guidebook.
Lynanne Crippen will be heading up the guidebook
advertisement. You can request your ad by email to
Julie Hanna-Stewart
luvbuns@twinbarnsrabbitry.
Greetings from your new Vice President of
the National Mini Rex Club! I have been
appointed by our president Jeremy
Watmuff to fill a vacancy left by Mark
Charles who needed to step away due to
work obligations. Thanks to Mark for
filling this role for many years and I know
we will still see you and Sonya in the
showroom and being a part of this club.
A little about me. I have raised Mini Rex
for 17 years starting with a tri purchased
for my daughter in order to do 4H. I
raised rabbits in my teens so was familiar
with the hobby and adored it from those
days of 4H and a little ARBA showing.
Some short 4 years later after that first 4H
mini rex, my daughter Allyson Stewart,
won Youth BIS at the Minneapolis
Convention in 2010 with a white mini rex.
That occurrence is actually one of the
highlights of my life and completely
unexpected. So, here I am...still with mini
rex (Allyson lives in Brooklyn, NYC) and
ready to serve the club! I am the
president of the Indiana State RBA and
the president of the Indiana State Mini
Rex club. I am also the NMRRC election
chair if my name looks familiar for those
who don't personally know me. I look
forward to seeing everyone in Louisville.
Hello everyone,
I hope everyone survived summer and the heat, here in
Wisconsin the temperatures have started to taper a bit
which is a welcome change. Now that we are nearing
the middle of September those of you with children
probably celebrated the start of school, I know I did!!
The last few months have allowed me to get more
comfortable in this position and with the new computer
program that we implemented. I understand that there
have been a few glitches with points and want to thank
the members as Margaret and I are still getting the hang
of all the features. Sanction requests have been coming
in steadily, so support the clubs and give them a great
turn out.
At the time of writing this the 100 th annual ARBA
Convention is right around the corner, and I for one am
excited to see old and new faces and celebrate this
milestone with the wonderful breeders in this hobby.
Hopefully everyone plans on attending our general
membership meeting Tuesday, October 10 th at 8:30 am
in West Wing room W1 then back to the showroom for
what looks like an amazing 24k auction. Some beautiful
animals have been donated and are sure to be an asset to
some breeding programs. Tuesday evening of course is
our banquet, don’t forget to dress in your derby best!
With Convention and fall shows starting, I am sure
everyone has been busy grooming as it seems many of
us are in the same boat and the fur is flying! If you
haven’t, consider this your reminder to fill the spray
bottle and start working coats. Here at home I have
begun to go through inventory of travel dishes,
grooming supplies, supplements, risers etc. in case I
need to pre-order anything now.
As always, for those who are willing to help at the
Convention it would be much appreciated and if you
aren’t attending or this magazine doesn’t reach you
beforehand, please remember it takes a village to make
shows successful. A little help goes a long way and
keeps the show moving along.
As always please reach out with any questions and safe
travel to those attending shows this fall!
Hi!
Another summer has come and gone too quickly. Hope you all got a
chance to enjoy yours. With this years convention earlier than normal I
feel like I should have more time but don’t. Just a few weeks till the
Hello mini rex breeders. It’s already time for the 3rd
quarter newsletter. At the time I am writing this
convention is only 5 weeks away!
Mini Rex clubs in the Pacific Northwest have been
busy these past 3 months. The Pacific Crest Mini Rex
Club put on specialties at the Rickreall show in July and
the Hood River show in August. They will also be
putting on one at the Redmond show in September. The
Rex Rabbit Breeders Association Fanciers of the Great
Northwest put on a double mini rex specialty at the
Cluster Show in Monroe, Wa in July. There was a great
turnout of mini rex breeders for all these shows and it
was fun to get together. I was fortunate to win BOSB
with a red sr buck along side Griffin Harrah with his
BOB broken sr doe at the Hood River specialty show.
That doesn’t happen much for me and now I have a
pretty ribbon to hang in my barn!
I’m sure everyone is busy getting their convention
entries ready to go. Between the extreme heat, fires and
smoke, and hurricanes in parts of the country this is a
tough task. But as rabbit breeders we just keep on
keepin’ on!! This will be my second convention as
District 1 rep and I look forward to seeing all my friends
and fellow breeders from the rest of the country.
See you soon
As I write my report, I can’t believe that ARBA
Convention is just around the corner! I hope your
entries are in and that you’re planning to attend our
100th ARBA Convention in Louisville, KY. It’s one of
the highlights of our hobby year and I’m looking
forward to seeing our mini rex family and getting away
from a very busy work schedule this Summer.
Safe travel wishes to and from ARBA Convention and a
successful convention full of winners!
would like to me to share any breed specific news here,
please let me know.
Hello Fellow NMRRC Members-
I am looking forward to this year’s ARBA Convention
and especially excited for this year’s exhibition of the
brindle mini rex.
Aim case you weren’t aware, part of the Certificate of
Development process is for new breeds and varieties to
be exhibited at an ARBA convention. The purpose of a
presentation is for members/exhibitors to have an
opportunity see a proposed new breed and/or variety,
ask questions about them, as presenters are
available, and to understand and increase interest in
them. This will help ensure support from club members
when the breed/variety gets voted on.
I hope everyone had a chance to see the exhibit at
convention and please feel free to reach out to me if you
have any questions about the proposed new variety
process.
Hi everyone!
Do not miss these!
I don’t know about you, but I am so excited for convention! It is
going to be so nice to see everyone again and meet some of the
If you have not already purchased a catalog for convention, I
recommend doing so. There is a lot of important information on

there, especially scheduling. I will share some high level information
24K Auction Details:
The 24K Auction will take place on Tuesday, 10/10/23 at 12pm. It
will be located near the Mini Rex coops from judging on Sunday.
The viewing line will open at 11am after the General Membership
meeting ends. Please only view the rabbits if you plan to bid- we do
not want to over stress them. We currently have over 20 finalized
donations from top breeders all over the United States. This is a
great opportunity to buy an animal hands on from a breeder you
have been wanting to purchase from! For more information about
the donations and the 24K Auction, join our Facebook group: 24K
Auction: The Elite of the NMRRC.
The Committee is made up of Allyse Sullivan, Sara Compart, Cole
Simons, Becky Forney, and Maple Ament. If you have any questions
at convention, feel free to ask any of us. We plan to take pictures of
each donation prior to the 24K auction. These pictures will be
posted in the Facebook group. This year, we will have absentee bid
forms available. If you cannot attend and have transport lined up,
this is a great way to bid. For questions on this, reach out to Becky
Forney.
I cannot thank our donors enough for donating such incredible
animals to the 24K auction! Donors will receive 50% of the sale
price. The remaining amount will be donated to the NMRRC. These
funds are used towards lowering banquet costs, our fabulous
convention awards, and so much more! The highest bidder and the
highest seller will each win one of the exciting 24K auction four-hole
carriers. Let’s make this the best 24K Auction yet!
See you at convention!!!!
District 4 article
Life is all about change, with that being said I will
eventually be moving to Oklahoma, there is no set date on
the move. I’m sure the biggest challenge will be moving
the rabbits to their new homes. I will move to our new
home as time allows.
I am looking forward to convention to see old friends and
meet new ones. I have a couple rabbits that are looking
pretty good but time will tell if their coats come in or not.
For any new people that are going to exhibit their animals I
would suggest to make a list of things that you need to
take with you such as zip ties, a small pair of cutters, risers
for the cages, coop cups if u prefer to use your own, hay,
feed, treats, cheerios for rabbits that refuse to eat and hay.
Get carriers ready well in advance of the show, I use a little
pdz on top of puppy pads for easy clean up.
I hope all of you have good luck at the shows and I will see
you down the road.
District 5 Director
Even though it is still hot and humid as I write this, fall is
fast approaching. I hope that everyone is getting excited
and looking forward to the 100th ARBA Convention in
Louisville Kentucky. The plans for this year’s NMRRC
banquet will be just as exciting and special!
As a 4-H leader, one of the ways that I support my
members is by attending their livestock shows at our
county fair. I currently have members who have poultry,
rabbit, goat, sheep, and swine projects. One thing that I
noticed at each show was that every judge commented
and complimented on how well the junior exhibitors
support each other and demonstrate excellent
sportsmanship. No matter win or lose the junior
exhibitions would congratulate each other and help each
other inside and outside of the show ring. Adult
exhibitors can learn from the junior exhibitors. Adults are
supposed to lead by example for the youth, but sometimes
the the youth can lead by example for the adults. Let’s
lead by example and help each other out at the show in
Louisville. Mini Rex are usually within the top 2 breeds
with the most entries at convention. It takes a lot of
people to help make the show run smooth and be
successful. Ways to help are by running rabbits, running
packets, writing for a judge, selling club apparel, selling
raffle tickets, or working the booth. Everyone wants to
be able to watch the judging and see how their animals
place, but don’t rely on everyone else to do the work.
Especially the exhibitors who have large (number)
entries. Lead by example and help where and when you
can. Don’t stand in the way and watch. I hope that this is
a successful convention and that this club is known to
have excellent sportsmanship.
Greetings from Tennessee and D6. I am your new D6
Director. First, I’d like to thank Mark Charles for his
past service as your D6 Director.
I’d like to introduce myself. I’m Laurie Limrite, the
mom/Grandma of FS Mini Rex. My daughters,
grandchildren and I started raising mini rex in 2016
when my oldest granddaughter was gifted a mini rex.
We fell in love with the breed and here we are 7 ½ years
later! It was supposed to be my grandkids 4-H project,
their last names are Foutz and Stoffan, which is where
the FS comes from. By the time I couldn’t resist any
longer everyone knew us as FS Mini Rex, so there’s no
changing now.
In February of 2020 we all relocated from California to
Tennessee, and we moved about 100 rabbits across the
country. Although we love our D2 people, we are
happy to be part of D6!
It’s been hot here in the South and we are finally
starting to get a break in the weather. As I write this
hurricane Idalia is looming down on Florida and we pray
all our members in Florida stay safe.
I’m looking forward to seeing everyone in Louisville in a
month to celebrate the 100th anniversary of ARBA!
If you have pictures or show information you’d like to
share please email them to me at
laurielimrite@gmail.com. I’m happy to include them in
Hello from Texas!
I hope that everyone had a fantastic summer! I’m sure I’m
not the only one impatiently waiting for the cooler
weather to finally get here. It’s been a tough summer
season for many due to the severe weather and the recordbreaking
temperatures across the country.
Over the next few weeks, I’m sure we all will be crazy
busy with pampering our entries for Convention, and the
kiddos with putting the finishing touches on their Arts and
Crafts submissions and studying for the ARBA Youth
Contests. If what I’ve been hearing is correct, this is going
to be one of the bigger Conventions they’ve had.
This year at Convention we would like to be a bit more
organized on the youth Mini Rex being brought to the
table. We are going to put together designated “teams” of
volunteers to help get youth rabbits and put them on the
tables. We will have two judges, so I’d like to have two
teams. If you’d like to help out, let me know.
The Youth Committee is planning on having a great raffle
table set up, with a few items that we will be doing a
silent auction on at the table. We have some awesome
donors so far but are still in need of items for the table. If
you’d like to donate an item to the raffle table, just send
me a message on Facebook or email.
We won’t be doing any youth contests during this
Convention. With the number of kiddos entered in the
ARBA Youth Contests this year, I feel like they are going
to be busy enough. Keep in mind though, that Nationals is
fast approaching. Information regarding the 2024 Royalty
Contests will be published in the next newsletter.
I wish everyone the best of luck and can’t wait to see
everyone in Louisville!
Sweepstakes Clarification
There has apparently been some confusion about how points are actully awarded. Below is from the Clubs Policies &
Procedures and clearly states that Points are only awarded to individuals Not families or groups. Entries must always
be entered the same way for individual points to count.
Show entry.
Be sure you are always entering your rabbits in the show the same way. Points are recorded under the name
they are shown. For example, If Joe Smith and Jane Smith enter a show as a single
exhibitor; they must both be members of the NMRRC for points to count. If a one
show they enter as Joe & Jane Smith, the points are given to them Together But If at the next
show the entry is only Joe alone, those points go only to Joe. Also, the exhibitor must be
the owner of the animals entered. If a family is showing together the entry
must be in their names. For example, John, Mary, Susie and Joey Smith
not Smith Family or Smith Farm. The NMRRC only accepts individuals
as members; therefore points are only awarded to
individuals.
Any individuals can show together as a partnership without completing a partnership form.Points are awarded again
based on how they are actually entered. The partnership form is ONLY necessary if you would like to earn
sweepstakes points and awards as a partnership.
Exampe: Joe smith, Mary Smith, and John Jones want to form a partnership and have points
awarded to the partnership (The Group) and are entered as The Group at shows not individual
names, However the animals MUST be housed in One Location not 3 seperate locations. Also the
Partnership form MUST be completed and sent to the NMRRC secretary with a $10.00 fee If the
partners do not live in the same household.
Disputing Points
If you feel that you were not awarded points properly, it is the exhibitor’s responsibility to prove there was
an error to the Points Keeper
IF You are disputing points you must send a list of all shows attended and points awarded at each
show to the points keeper with a written explanation of the discrepancy. It is important for the exhibitor to first
reference the missing show reports listed on the NMRRC website. Shows have 30 days to return show
reports to the points keeper and you must then allow processing time. If after you have checked the missing show
report and feel your points are still incorrect. Follow the process listed above and send to the current points keeper
listed in the NMRRC Newsletter.
Exhibitors that send disputes without proper documentation will receive an email back from the points
keeper stating “NOT Sufficient Information to proceed
