2. Our most important raw material 3. Circular economy by fides
Wood is perhaps the most environmentally friendly raw material for promotional products on the planet. Trees
need only sunlight and water to grow. And forests store liquid and carbon dioxide, thus having a positive impact
on the global climate. In fact, thanks to certified sustainable forestry, European forest stands grow by the area of
a soccer field every day, allowing them to clean up more air and store more CO2 every day.
The carbon dioxide stored in wood is released as soon as wood is burned. Our recycled products are not destroyed,
however, but are reprocessed into recycled paper and thus continue to act as CO2 stores. The use of
ecological advertising materials made from the renewable raw material wood thus means not only the avoidance
of environmental damage but also an increase in the forest population and thus positive effects for our
climate.
For 2.5 kg of virgin fiber-based cardboard (FSC), 7.5 kg of wood is required. For the same quantity of recycled cardboard,
2.8 kg of waste paper is sufficient, and Germany is the world champion in paper recycling with a quota of eighty
percent. We try to work with recycled cardboard whenever possible from a technical point of view - as long as the
product quality does not suffer. Energy consumption is then up to 50 percent lower, fewer and more environmentally
compatible chemicals are used, up to 60 percent less water is required, and the ecological footprint is significantly
better (up to 50 percent fewer CO2 emissions). In addition, German suppliers guarantee high security of supply and
short transport routes.
Only one type of waste is generated during production at fides, namely cardboard. This „waste“ is collected,
reprocessed into recycled paper and thus forms the basis for new advertising materials. A closed loop!
There are no quality differences between recycled and FSC quality, as we have had confirmed by our customers
in several blind studies.
Paper is made from wood. Of course, we use only those from certified forestry - FSC: For every tree removed, several
new ones are planted. This is good for the climate. From the paper mill, the material is sent directly to us. Our
building is also made of wood and binds several hundred tons of CO2. It needs no heating, the electricity comes
from the roof of the house. Peaks are covered by green electricity from the nearby Black Forest. In this respect, fides
production has been emission-free for years. This is a state that politicians are only aiming for in a few decades.
Our parcel service provider is planning to switch to electric vehicles and is offsetting the pollutant emissions of its
fleet by purchasing climate certificates until then. Once our products have reached the end of their useful life, they
are collected via the waste paper recycling system, sent to the paper mill and from there back to us as recycled
cardboard, where we turn them into advertising materials once again. A closed, environmentally friendly cycle!

4. The building without heating 5. Ein integratives Miteinander
In addition to using environmentally friendly raw materials, we have also designed the company building in a very
sustainable way. It is made of 100% wood, which means that no concrete, stones, metal, chemicals, etc. were used.
The wall of the building is made of wooden panels connected with wooden dowels and cork insulation was applied
on the outermost layer. The natural building material wood holds the world record in thermal insulation and is characterized
by optimal sound insulation, 5-fold fire protection, earthquake resistance, natural air conditioning, zero
pollution, etc. Due to this very good thermal insulation, the building does not require heating.
As the largest manufacturer of parking discs, we have a machine park that is specially tailored to our products.
And the only two parking disc machines in the world are of course located here in Ortenau. This worldwide
unique machinery enables short delivery times, constant quality and attractive prices.
The members of our large homeworking/confectioning team have for the most part been working for fides for
decades and are highly experienced in the further processing of paper/cardboard (eyelets, gluing, collating ...).
- Yes, you have read correctly! Our building has no gas, pellet or oil heating and no ground-source heat pump. The inhouse
photovoltaic system provides enough electricity to run computers, appliances and machines. In the summer
we can switch on the air conditioning at any time without a guilty conscience. Because the electricity comes CO2-
free from the roof!
Production and confection
In winter, the sun, people and machines produce so much heat that there is always heat available, which is also
maintained for a long time by the wooden building. On days with temperatures far below zero, we generate a
pleasant room temperature with mobile electric heaters. The electricity then comes from hydroelectric power
plants in the nearby Black Forest, so that even the emergency heating is ecologically harmless. That is the reason
why you will not find a chimney on the photos. Because there is no heating and without heating / chimney there
are no emissions!
The fides team also included people with disabilities from day one.
They work in various positions in the company and their work is
appreciated by colleagues and management alike.
In the Black Forest you can still find old wooden farms
that are hundreds of years old. In this respect, we assume
a very long and sustainable use of our building.
During this time not only no CO2 is released , but even
tons of carbon dioxide are stored in the building.
