December 2023
Welcoming all to Worship, Grow, and Serve in God’s Grace.
It’s The Most
Wonderful
Time of the Year
Pastor’s Corner
A message from Pastor Horacio
Grace and Peace to you from God our Father
and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
But, is it though? Is Christmas
the most wonderful time of the
year?
According to Andy Williams
and all the messaging we hear
in the radio, social media, and
the newspapers (if that is still a
thing), it sure is, “with the kids
jingle belling, and everyone
telling you ‘Be of good cheer;’
It’s The Most Wonderful Time
Of The Year. When friends
come to call...There’ll be parties
for hosting, marshmallows for
toasting. It’s The Most Wonderful
Time Of The Year.” You see all
around you and you can’t miss
Christmas has arrived, or the
Holidays, as other people prefer
to call it. Christmas trees are
decorated, lights shining from
anywhere they can be hung,
the air is crisp, the food is being
prepared, and the anticipation
of family, friends, and church
gatherings is palpable—and it
will be more palpable with an
extra pound or two after the
festivities have come and gone.
We are not only told how this is
the most wonderful time of the
year and how we should be of
“good cheer,” but that we should
not be sad, or struggle, or even
worry about our life situations
and what is going on in the world.
We also remember that J.
Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie
Continued from pg. 1
also gave us Santa Claus is
Coming to Town. They tells us,
and many times we sing along
without missing a bit, in a rather
threatening but upbeat and
dynamic catchy song that “you
better watch out, you better not
cry, you better not pout, I am
telling you why, Santa Claus is
coming to town. Oh, he’s making
a list and checking it twice, he’s
gonna find out who’s naughty
or nice. Santa Claus is coming
to town. Oh, he sees you when
you’re sleeping, he knows when
you’re awake, he knows if you’ve
been bad or good, so be good
for goodness sake!”
Am I saying that we should
not be of good cheer, enjoy
Christmas, and all that comes
with it? No. What I am saying is
that “being of good cheer” cannot
be prescribed. In many cases
everything is going well and we
are able to enjoy the season
without thinking too much about
anything else. In other cases we
have our struggles but we still
celebrate the season, and in
other situations, there is nothing
to celebrate because we are in
mourning, sad, and in despair,
whatever the reason.
So now we need not only
ask the question, is Christmas
the most wonderful time of the
year? But, why? The answer
we, as Christians, can provide
is that, yes, Christmas is one of
the most wonderful times of the
year, along with Advent, Easter,
Pentecost, and even Holy Week.
And the reason why is because
Christ is not only coming to town,
but He’s already here, in your
death and in your life. He comes
to you not telling you that you
“should be of good cheer” or that
you “should not pout or cry,” but
He is telling you: “I am here for
you, whether you celebrate and
rejoice or whether you mourn
and despair.
In mourning and rejoicing
Christ is here for you, to bring
you a promise, whether it is
Christmas or any other time of
the year. And this promise is
that you are a Baptized child of
God in Christ Jesus, you have
been chosen by God, and He
shows His mercy to you as
Christ became flesh and dwells
in and among you whatever your
life circumstance. This is the
promise we read on Christmas
Eve, and every single Sunday
in one way or another, from
Matthew 1:18-25, “Look, [said
the Angel of the Lord to Joseph]
the virgin shall conceive and
bear a son, and they shall name
him Emmanuel,” which means,
“God is with us,” (verse 23).
And the same promise is given
to you this year again with the
words of Isaiah 9:2 “The people
who walked in darkness have
seen a great light; those who
lived in a land of deep darkness
on them light has shined.” And
Titus 2:11 “For the grace of God
has appeared, bringing salvation
for all people…[through] our
great God and Savior, Jesus
Christ, who gave himself for us
to redeem us from all [sin and
darkness].”
So, there you have it, God
is not afraid to come all the way
to you in the flesh to dwell in
and with you bringing you His
light of salvation, in the midst of
Ministry
joy and sorrow, in the midst of
rejoicing and mourning, and in
the midst of light and darkness.
God with you, God for you, your
Emmanuel. Thanks be to God.
Amen.
Church Council Highlights
The Council opened in prayer
with appreciation for the Ministry
teams and all the good works
that they do in supporting the
Church, society, and each other.
There are many people willingly
putting forth such a great deal of
their time and effort that we are
frequently not fully aware of how
much is being given so freely.
Prayers of thanks for all the
Ministry Teams and each of
those people who serve in them.
The Fall Festival was very
successful as was the middle
school retreat.
Budget
The budget will be presented
to the congregation for vote on
Dec. 3.
Old business
Roof update: The roof project
at the back of the Church has
been completed, inspected and
signed off. The cost came in at
exactly the bid estimate and the
roofer has been paid.
Thanks to all who helped to
get this project completed.
There was a discussion about
the second half of the roofing
project slated for the summer of
2025.
At this time, the Council is
going to concentrate on funding
for that project.
Budget: The budget will be
presented to the congregation
for vote on December 3.
The Property Team is in the
process of forming an emergency
action plan for the
Church. This will take some
time, but effective progress is
already being made.
Membership: Eleven new
members were added to the
Church.
The Council closed with the
Lord’s Prayer.
All is well with Altar Guild as we prepare for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany. This is a busy
time of year for us as we begin a new liturgical year and prepare for the arrival of Baby Jesus.
With Holden Evening Prayer on Wednesdays, there are more opportunities to gather, even
though no communion is served on these Wednesdays. If you would like to volunteer, please
contact Linda Reed and we will add you to our group. We have welcomed new member Mary
Mead and are delighted that some of our members are able to serve in other ways for worship
with increased servers in Altar Guild.
Merry Christmas!
Fellowship
Thoughts on
Why your generosity to Creator Lutheran matters!
With your Generosity, we provided 850 Backpacks for kids who might not have enough to eat on the
weekends. (that is not a typo.)
With your Generosity, we helped numerous families at Bonney Lake and Sumner food banks.
With your generosity, we sent 13 youth and adults to Kentucky to walk alongside a neighbor in Christ.
With your generosity, Groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and the Girl scouts have a safe place to
meet.
With your Generosity, preschool kids have a safe, Christian environment in which to learn and grow.
With your Generosity, people have a place to go when they are grieving, or feel lost.
With your Generosity we have a place to hear the saving, healing word each Sunday, and have a
community that claims us, just as we are.
Your Generosity, whether it is time, talent,
or money, matters, and makes a difference.
If you are volunteering or giving regularly, THANK YOU!
This Christmas season, we boldly ask that you consider an additional gift, in support of our mission
and ministry.
We can't do it without you, and we believe it
is worth doing.
Children, Youth, and Family
The 12 Symbols of Christmas
Happy Holidays! Christmas is just around the corner and we are starting to prepare for our annual
christmas play that will be held during church service on December 17th (9:30a)!
There will be no Sunday School on Novemeber 26th but we will be doing a family Advent event; so
please join us!
Families that have been in sunday school over the last 2 weeks have already started practicing the
Christmas songs and chosen some of the speaking and reading parts. The play is a super cute story of
a mom explaining to her children why we decorate on christmas and demonstrates the meaning behind
the 12 decorations.
Important Dates
• December 3rd 9:45am- First run through of the play with parts and music
• December 10th 9:45am- Full run through with modified decorations, and full music
• December 17th 8:00am- Full run through with full decorations, music, costumes, etc
• Additional Rehearsal outside of Sunday School time if needed- date TBD
•
We are still looking for the following parts
• 1 Speaking part (small memorization with very short lines) Playing the part of one of the children
• 2-3 (or more) Reading parts (no memorization required but are short paragraphs)
• All children who want to participate and don't want a speaking or reading part (or are too little)
will help decorate the family's room with the different symbols and are welcome to dress up as a
specific symbol. (listed below)
• ** Please let me know if your child would like one of the speaking or reading parts ASAP**
Other things that I need help with
• Acquiring supplies and preparing decorations
These are the 12 Symbols
• Evergreen Tree
• Ornament
• Star
• Angel
• Present
• Ribbon/bows
• Candy Cane
• Holly
• Wreath
• Candle/Lights
• Bells
• Cookie
These are the Songs that we will be singing (so you can start practicing)- I will distribute booklets for
families on Nov. 26 and Dec. 3
• O Little Town of Bethlehem
• Silent Night
Preschool
Preschool News
December 2023
Dear Parents,
We hope your Thanksgiving was blessed with love. In November, the children enjoyed their sports
day and “turkey feast”. We would like to thank everyone for helping our adopted families have a
wonderful Thanksgiving. Our preschool was able to feed two families with your generous donations.
We could not have done it without you. We are so blessed to have such great families.
On Monday afternoon, December 18, Tuesday, December 19 and Wednesday morning,
December 20 we will have an In-House Christmas celebration for our preschool children. We are
encouraging the children to wear a fun Christmas outfit for the celebration. We would love to have
parent volunteers from each of our classes to help with the games, etc. Please let us know if you can
help.
In December, our preschool will be collecting new “unwrapped” toys for local children. Please have
them here by December 15th. We will deliver the toys to the Bonney Lake fire and police department
and they will distribute them to families in our community.
Our last school days before Christmas will be Monday, December 18th, Tuesday, December
19th and Wednesday, December 20th. There will be no Wednesday afternoon class. Winter/
Christmas Break begins on Thursday, December 21st. Because your houses are probably as
hectic as ours during the end of December, we will not send home the envelopes and newsletters/
calendars until the children return in January. Please check the December snack calendar for the first
week of January for snack names. Classes will resume on Thursday, January 4th, 2024.
As we enter the winter months, remember that if there are weather issues, we will follow the Sumner
School District. We always want your safety and the well- being of the children to be the highest
priority, but we always want to have school if possible. So, if the Sumner School District is adequately
concerned about the road conditions to change their schedules, we will do the same. Watch TV or go
to flashalert.net, click on Pierce County Schools, then Sumner School District to find out the status of
the school district. If the Sumner School District closes, then Creator Preschool will also be closed. If
there is a late start for the district, we will have afternoon classes only. We will not call each family, but
if you should have any concerns, please feel free to call your teachers.
Again, we hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. As Christmas time approaches, if you have
been looking for a church family, we hope you will feel welcome to join us on Sunday morning as well
as during the week. Share in the delight as your children learn about the story of Baby Jesus. He is
the reason for the season!
We wish you all a most Joyous and Blessed Advent Season!
Your teachers,
Andrea (Mrs. D), Ragan (Mrs. Allen) and Cheri (Ms. Farrer)
