An Exciting Year is ahead of US
Kandi Menne: Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce President
November marks a oneyear
anniversary for me as your
Fairmont Area Chamber of
Commerce President! What a
whirlwind it has been. Believe it
or not - I am still bursting with
excitement and enthusiasm for
the future!
Here's what I have been up to
I’ve been fortunate to been part of the
Chamber Executive leadership program – It is
six days at six different Chambers. Each session
gave us unique insight in all things Chamber. I am
also part of the SWMCCE (Southwest Minnesota
Chamber of Commerce Executive) that meets
quarterly and have attended two
(MCCE)Minnesota Chamber of
Commerce Executives conferences.
It is a wonderful community of
Chamber Executives who have
a wealth of knowledge and area
all willing to share how they “do
things”.
Some of the highlights of my first year
are
• We re branded our Fairmont Area life guide
• Brought relevant speakers to our networking
meetings, increasing attendance
• Hosted a seminar with an employment law
specialists to help us navigate through the
new employment law changes
• The positively Fairmont Group relaunched the
Fairmont Area Life website with a fresh look and
more content
• Brought Cindra Kamphoff, an award-winning
keynote speaker and certified professional
coach for leaders, professional athletes, and
championship teams to the Fairmont Opera
House and the Fairmont High School
• Hosted the first annual Sip n Shop event in
Fairmont - thank you to all who participated
• We are transitioning to tiered dues to
streamline membership and values
• Are attending downtown retail meetings
• Held our strategic planning - we have set some
additional goals for 2024!
I've been fortunate to have Rachel and
Sydney working hard to get things done and
having a willing attitude. I often come to the
office with the statement "I've been thinking".
They are always up to an adventure and
challenge!
Coming up in the next few months:
• Soon all businesses will be receiving
information for the new tiered dues
• Glows Parade November 17. We are excited
about the added festivities on what is
traditionally Glows Parade
• While you prepare your shopping
list, remember to always think Shop
Local. When you do, that puts money
back into the community you live in,
when you shop local, you're making
a personal investment in your neighborhood
and community. Money is kept in the
community because locally-owned businesses
often purchase from other local businesses,
service providers, and farms.
• We are still looking for volunteers to go into
the Kindergarten though 6 grade classrooms
5 sessions to teach the Junior Achievement
curriculum. We supply all the materials you need,
all we need is you!
We enter the time of the year that is the
time of gift giving. When deciding on where
to give, please consider the Fairmont Area
Chamber of Commerce. As a nonprofit we are
continually fund-raising for our Ag and Business
Scholarships, for Junior Achievement in the
schools, the holiday street pole lights fund. (The
red lantern lights are getting really old) Consider
a donation in any amount – you may allocate
2

ate by facilitating access to leaders, communication and education through programs and services for its members.
what your donation is for – We thank you in advance
We will say thank you for your service and dedication to the
Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce to four current board members
whose last board meeting will be in November. Outgoing Board
members are, Left to right: Blake Potthoff (Fairmont Opera House),
Sara Cyphers (D&S Trophies), Keith Hoye (City of Lakes Media) Jeff
Rouse (Our Story Productions)
At our November board meeting (continued from page 2) we 3
will welcome 4 new board members
Joe
Loughmiller (Phileo by Lesaffre), Miranda Tulowetzke (Sweet
Financial Partners), Zak Clemetson (Mayo Clinic Health System -
Fairmont), Kermit Brown (Kinship of Martin County)
2023 has been a great year of learning, camaraderie,
challenges and many successes-
As your Chamber President, I am honored to work alongside
our dedicated Board who all share the same vision, business growth
and healthy community environment. The door is always open stop
in and see us! You may reach me @ at 507.235.5547 or e-mail:
Membership Drive Continues
Join anytime between now and the end of December
and you receive the rest of the 2023 Chamber year for free. That
is up to 13 months of Chamber membership for the price of 12
months.
Why Join? There are numerous reasons to
join the Chamber. We work hard to educate, engage
and advocate for our community businesses,
as well as working to understand and be proactive
on workforce issues that affect many businesses. When one of
us is successful, it benefits us all.
We offer numerous networking opportunities like Bureau 14,
Agri Business, Young Professionals 2 Golf Tournaments throughout
the year to name a few. Junior Achievement in our Schools and Area
Career Exploration are 2 Education and future workforce things we
also do.
There seem to be two types of Chamber members. One type
joins to take advantage of all of the programming the Chamber provides.
They will network, volunteer, attend seminars and
work on committees to take full advantage of the connections
you can make as a Chamber member. The other type
of member joins the Chamber to help and promote the
greater good of our business community. They know that
every time the Chamber helps or benefits a local business, it helps all
of our businesses. Both of these are solid reasons for being a Chamber
member and we appreciate if you joined for both reasons too!
Remember, when you join the Fairmont Area Chamber of
Commerce You are Investing in the future of our community!
The expansion will add 5,300 sf of new space on the first floor and 3,050 sf
the students had a blast. She was fun, intelligent, entertaining and we were
incredibly appreciative of the actionable advice given to us. We were also able
to accept lots of donations for our local Toy for Tots organization, making it
an even more impactful evening. Thanks to all who attended!
We have partnered with the City of Fairmont to bring the
holiday lights decorating contest. We are thrilled to be able to do
this again in 2023.
This year we decided to change it up a little bit to keep it
fair for everyone participating. We have decided that everything
amount of likes that get on the photo they submit. Four categories
of lighting decorations will be chosen: Categories include First,
Second and Third Place. Also new this year we will be doing Best
Business Decorations.
Next year there will be a new rule if you won First Place the
year prior you cannot win again the following year. We hope this is
so we don’t have the same winner each year to get more people to
participate to bring the holiday cheer to Fairmont.
