Bobby Richardson, Editor
What's a word that is a threat to us?
If we accept that change is a natural part of life,
Buckle up, it's "Change". Yes, change is
we can more easily learn the things we need to
do to cope with it. God reminds us that He has
threatening, frightening, and difficult, but it’s not our steps prepared.
impossible.
He promises never to fail or forsake us, and I
Change doesn't have to be the cause of a negative
experience. Our Father assures us that He will
think He helps us see change in its proper
perspective.
always be with us, watching over us, providing for
us, all the while everything around us seems to be
constantly changing, I can see more clearly the
unchanging nature of God’s love and care. Our
unchanging God knows about change. The Bible
tells us that God never changes.
The writer of Hebrews 13 expresses his utmost
trust in God in the face of all circumstances.
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and
be content with what you have because he has
said, I will never leave you. I will always be by
your side.” Because of this promise, we may
Malachi 3:6 - “For I the Lord does not change. boldly say the Lord is my help. I won’t be afraid of
Therefore Children of Jacob, you are not anything. How can anyone harm me?” Hebrews
consumed.”
13:5-6.
Yesterday, today and forever He is the God who is
gracious and merciful. The Bible says he is “slow
to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”
A new year will bring change. It’s inevitable, things
will continue to change.
Some of those changes will feel like a tiny ripple.
Others will seem like a tidal wave. but no matter
what changes we face, we need not fear. We don’t
need to hide. We shouldn’t despair. Our rock and
anchor is our unchanging God whose character
and promise remain fixed forever.
When I was younger, we didn’t have a TV. My
mama had gotten saved and all that “sin” was
removed from our house. But what I can
remember is Southern Gospel music
resonating from an antique stereo system
throughout the house. I can still hear my
mama singing to what was being played on the
radio. “The God on the mountain is still God in
the valley. When things go wrong, He’ll make
them right.” .
IN LOVING MEMORY
PEG MCKAMEY BEAN
1943-2023
I loved to listen to the McKameys. There was
something pure that you could hear in their
sound. And oh, if Sis. Peg got started it was on!
The Spirit of the Lord would get on her and
we’d all have church! Their sound coupled
with their heart to minister made them one of
the greats! They were authentic and not
ashamed to sing about and live God out loud!
Oh that we would have that tenacity! We
honor the McKameys in this edition of NJR
Magazine.
Take Time!
07 NJR DIGITAL MAGAZINE
It’s hard to believe 2023 is coming to a close. I can remember when I was
much younger my Grand parents and Mom and Dad saying “this year has
passed so quickly and I would think, “ No it hasn’t!” When we were younger
time seemed to just creep! Especially if it was something we were excited
about like our birthday, getting our drivers licenses, a special date we were
looking forward or even, as a child Santa coming.
I’ve often wondered why as we get older time seems to fly by. I did a little
research and found that scientists and psychologists think that when we were
children, everyday was filled with a new learning experience. We were taking
all new experiences in for the first time and constantly learning. That takes
more time to think about these new experiences and appears to make time
move slower. As we become adults, life becomes more of a routine. We learn
our jobs and our schedules and are constantly living by a time clock and going
from one thing to the next that we already know how to do. Therefore, time
seems to move faster. In other words, our lives become a routine. I’m not so
sure that’s good!
We should always be open to learning new things and trying our best to
switch up the routine as often as we can. I am a Mom of an adult who has
Autism so I realize how difficult this can be for some of us. This coming year I
am going to try my best to get out of my routine from time to time and just
SLOW down and try to learn some new things. The old cliche “Take time to
smell the roses.” is not a bad idea. In 2024 take some time to learn something
new, slow down and remember what it was like to be a child. I taught
kindergarten for many years and loved to see how much the mind of a 5 year
old could learn in a year. Think more like a five year old in the coming year!
You will be amazed how much your stress level will improve. Slow down and
smell the roses!
New Year! Reset! Change!
Many of us have set New Year Resolutions as we have reflected on what has been and
what we’d like things to look like in the New Year. A word that I feel in my spirit for
this year is “change”. I feel that God wants to make changes in us and for us. We have
to be willing to change and most people don’t like that too much.
Possibly that word change might mean to “lead out”. Moses was to lead the people
out of bondage into the promised land but because the people weren’t willing to
change , they spent many years wandering and wondering, but despite all their
complaining, Moses did lead them out.
Change could mean to “do something out of your comfort zone”. Ester was able to
move into the King’s palace not having to give up her identity as a Jew at a time when
Haman wanted to kill them all. She became a voice for her people. We see her walk in
obedience to her calling and use her influence to fight for those who didn’t have a
voice and stand for what was right.
Change could also mean to ”work at it and stand still”. We see Noah do just that. God
had called him to build a boat that would save his family and the animals. People
ridiculed and laughed at him yet he kept working and stood still knowing that in God’s
time and when everything was in working condition, things would change.
What is God calling you to do this year? What changes is He wanting you to make? Or
is He simply saying “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.” My change may not
be the same as yours, but as the old song simply says “through it all, trust in Jesus
and trust in God. Through it all, learn to depend upon His word.”
Blessings on you, your family, and your ministry!
