centres, Ashtonbee is where School of 

Transportation students receive their education. 

It’s also home to select Community and Health 

Studies programs. 

STORY ARTS CENTRE 

Tap into your creativity at the cutting-edge 

campus of the School of Communications, 

Media, Arts and Design. Fully equipped labs 

and studio spaces are designed for practical 

experiences. 

DOWNSVIEW CAMPUS 

This is where students help aircraft fly 

high. Centennial's well-established Aviation 

Technician programs, as well as new Aerospace 

Manufacturing offerings, are facilitated at 

Downsview. The campus also houses related 

aircraft and equipment for experiential learning. 

PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE 

Purpose-built, this location’s practice and learning 

spaces accommodate the Music, Dance, Theatre, 

and Performing Arts Fundamentals programs.

WORK-INTEGRATED LEARNING 

During your time at the College, you will likely hear the word “WIL” a lot. But what does it mean? 

WIL is an acronym for Work-Integrated Learning. A form of experiential education, it combines 

your academic studies with hands-on application in a workplace or practice setting. The benefits 

are twofold: You get to apply your newly-gained skills and become more familiar with the industry 

and the Canadian job market. As a result, you graduate ready to make an impact. 

Here are a few different types of WIL you may encounter at Centennial. 

CO-OP 

Short for co-operative education, co-op is a WIL 

that alternates between academic and work terms. 

During your work terms, you will work full-time and 

most opportunities are paid. If your program offers 

a co-op option, you must apply to and meet the 

requirements of the co-op stream. 

PLACEMENT 

Depending on your program, placements may 

be called field or clinical placements. Like co-op, 

they offer industry experience. Unlike co-op, 

they are unpaid and typically completed on a 

part-time basis. Certain programs do, however, 

facilitate placements after you have completed 

all your academic courses. In some study areas, 

placements are a mandatory feature. 

INTERNSHIP 

Internships — which may be paid or unpaid — are 

another way to gain industry experience. They may 

be completed on a part- or full-time basis. Some 

Centennial programs offer internships as an 

imbedded program feature. 

CAPSTONE 

Think of a capstone as a cumulative final project. 

The capstone project is an opportunity to apply 

everything you have learned towards solving an 

industrial or business issue or completing an 

application. Some capstones pair students or 

student groups with real companies.

Run by students, this Association offers beneficial 

services during your time at Centennial that include 

a health and dental plan, free legal advice, student

CLUBS AND INCLUSIVITY SUPPORTS 

Are you interested in meeting like-minded people? 

Want to learn something new? Looking for a social 

group? Student clubs available through CCSAI cover 

many interests. For example, the Black Student 

Collective provides Black students with support and 

opportunities for empowerment. The 2SLGBTQQIA+ 

Social Club creates a safe space for students who 

identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, 

or queer as well as those who are questioning or 

exploring their sexual orientation or gender identity. 

FITNESS AND ATHLETICS 

Get your heart pumping at our on-campus Fitness 

Centres, where you’ll find everything from equipment 

and workout facilities to classes and personal training. 

Interested in team sports? Join a recreational group or 

play for the Centennial COLTS on one of our competitive

The Centennial Leadership Academy is the centre 

for student leadership and skills development at 

Centennial College. Participating in our leadership 

offerings will give you the core skills you need for

BROADEN YOUR LEARNING 

To Go Abroad 

Centennial provides transformative learning experiences that 

extend beyond Canada's borders. International opportunities 

complement your studies with a global perspective. All global 

experience programs are 70 to 100 per cent funded. 

WORK ABROAD 

For two to four months, in a global workplace 

directly related to your field of study, earn 

placement or co-op credit for your program. 

RESEARCH ABROAD 

Contribute to an applied research project, under 

experts’ supervision, which allows you to explore 

new products and technologies. Taking place over 

the course of a semester, the research includes 

one to two weeks abroad. 

STUDY ABROAD 

Spend two weeks to four months studying at one 

of our global partner institutions, learning a new 

language and experiencing a new culture, or taking

“I have never experienced something like that, so for me, it was very exciting. I was only in this program for 

six months, and I already achieved this goal. I’m loving the opportunity that this college has given to me.” 

What is Storyworks and how did it benefit you? 

“The course involved working with real clients in order to prepare students professionally. We were divided into 

groups, and each group was given the opportunity to choose their clients. The course gave us the chance to 

interface with all the facets of a real professional collaboration, with all its challenges and satisfaction.” 

Through Storyworks, your work was published in Vogue Magazine. What did you gain from the experience? 

“This collaboration made me more confident about myself and my potential, giving me a better understanding

KURT'S EXPERIENCES 

Why did you decide to come to Canada from 

the Philippines? 

“I graduated high school in 2020. Due to the pandemic, 

I stayed at home and was planning to go back to studying in 

2021. I was thinking of taking a Psychology program in the 

Philippines. But my cousin, who is residing in Toronto and is now 

an alumni of Centennial College, told me that she was about to 

graduate and encouraged me to apply.” 

Why did you choose the Food and Beverage 

Management program? 

“I had a passion for food since I was a kid. I trained myself to 

cook during the pandemic, and it made me choose food and 

beverage as my field of study. When my cousin told me about 

Centennial, I researched the college and the testimonials were 

great. That’s why I only applied to Centennial — nowhere else!” 

What new skills did you gain in Food and Beverage 

Management? 

“The program offers culinary courses that widened my knowledge 

of cooking techniques and working in the kitchen safely. I didn't 

have any idea about beverages, especially alcohol, but the 

courses gave me knowledge about it. Now, I'm confident enough 

to make you drinks for your upcoming party!” 

How did Food and Beverage Management prepare 

you for career success? 

“Before coming to Centennial College, I was just a high school 

graduate without any work experience and knowledge. This 

program prepared me to enter the workforce, and it helped me at 

my first-ever kitchen job. It feels like this program was designed 

for me, and I am having so much fun in my career!”

“Because of the skills I gained through the program, I got 

promoted to a supervisor [at my workplace]. I am applying all 

the lessons I learned about managing a restaurant, leadership,

“You never know, you might be the next owner of a Michelin

EXPERIENCES 

Why did you choose Centennial? 

“As an international student, you sometimes have to weigh 

the cost of education and how it can benefit you more in 

the long run. Centennial had a program that was two years 

long, which could get me into the doors that I needed to 

get into.” 

What was your experience getting into the Canadian 

job market? 

“I had two separate placement semesters, one was two 

months and the other one was four. The work really helped 

me to find my footing in the professional setting, especially 

since I had no prior work experience in this country.” 

How did you enjoy your field placements? 

“The great thing about Centennial is they give you the 

option to figure out exactly where you want to get placed ... 

I was very comfortable with my placements because they 

matched exactly what my interests were, and I went into 

them already confident because they gave me the tools 

to succeed.”

Community Development Work 

You used your learning to build a program that helps 

local business. How? 

“In my courses, they were big on intersectionality: thinking 

of ways different community issues might simultaneously 

affect each other without us noticing. Strategies and 

practices that I learned in my courses helped me put 

this idea together, too. Even templates that I got in 

my assignments helped me to pitch it to my board of 

directors.” 

Why is practical experience essential? 

“Never take your practicals for granted. A lot of the 

practical experiences that you think are everyday tasks will 

be very important when you decide to launch your career.”
