LAND
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Centennial College is proud to be part of a rich history of education in this
province and in this city. We acknowledge that we are on the treaty lands
and territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We pay tribute to
their legacy, and the legacy of all First Peoples of Canada, as we strengthen
ties with the communities we serve and build the future through learning
and through our graduates.
Today, the traditional meeting place of Toronto is still home to many
Indigenous Peoples from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the
opportunity to work in the communities that have grown in the treaty lands
of the Mississaugas. We acknowledge that we are all treaty people and
accept our responsibility to honour all our relations.
Reasonable efforts will be made to adhere to the details in this calendar. The policies and procedures were those in effect at the time of publication.
The provisions of this calendar are not to be regarded as an irrevocable offer by Centennial College to the student. Centennial College reserves the right
to make changes without prior notice affecting but not limited to areas such as admission procedures, tuition, other fees, courses of instruction, program
location, programs of study, and general regulations. Centennial College will not be liable for any loss or damage incurred by the student as a result of
such changes.

THEDYFRED'S EXPERIENCES
What interested you in hotel operations management?
“What inspired me to go into this field is my drive and
passion towards customer service. It has always been
my cup of tea, and hospitality allows you to work in a
multifaceted environment.”
What's an important aspect of picking the right college?
“The one thing that I want people to know is that when
choosing the institution that you want, always remember
that they should be supportive of you. They should also be
encouraging you to better yourself, to be the best version
of yourself.”
Why did you choose Centennial?
“Diversity in every way is a crucial part of the learning process
for most of the students. I believe that Centennial College
produces great graduates and fully-equipped individuals who
are globally competitive in the environment that they are in.”
What practical learning did you experience in your program?
“Centennial College gave me practical opportunities, together
They also give you proper exposure in extracurricular activities
as well as conferences and volunteer work.”
How did Centennial set you up for success?
“I break it down for you through the word SET. S stands for
Standards. The standards of the institution are very high. That
allows the students to be prepared as soon as they graduate.
E stands for Exposure. The exposure and experience that they
give you will have a benefit after you graduate, in your future
endeavours. And T? T stands for Thrive. As you thrive, the
college will always support you to become better and support
you in the field that you want to pursue after you graduate.”
WORK-INTEGRATED LEARNING
To Gain
Experience
At Centennial, there are numerous
ways to apply your education to
real-life settings.
16
International Programs Viewbook 2024 - 2025

WORK-INTEGRATED LEARNING
During your time at the College, you will likely hear the word “WIL” a lot. But what does it mean?
WIL is an acronym for Work-Integrated Learning. A form of experiential education, it combines
your academic studies with hands-on application in a workplace or practice setting. The benefits
are twofold: You get to apply your newly-gained skills and become more familiar with the industry
and the Canadian job market. As a result, you graduate ready to make an impact.
Here are a few different types of WIL you may encounter at Centennial.
CO-OP
Short for co-operative education, co-op is a WIL
that alternates between academic and work terms.
During your work terms, you will work full-time and
most opportunities are paid. If your program offers
a co-op option, you must apply to and meet the
requirements of the co-op stream.
PLACEMENT
Depending on your program, placements may
be called field or clinical placements. Like co-op,
they offer industry experience. Unlike co-op,
they are unpaid and typically completed on a
part-time basis. Certain programs do, however,
facilitate placements after you have completed
all your academic courses. In some study areas,
placements are a mandatory feature.
INTERNSHIP
Internships — which may be paid or unpaid — are
another way to gain industry experience. They may
be completed on a part- or full-time basis. Some
Centennial programs offer internships as an
imbedded program feature.
CAPSTONE
Think of a capstone as a cumulative final project.
The capstone project is an opportunity to apply
everything you have learned towards solving an
industrial or business issue or completing an
application. Some capstones pair students or
student groups with real companies.
placement or co-op credit for your program.
RESEARCH ABROAD
weeks, gaining first-hand experience and practical
knowledge relevant to your field of study while earning
credit towards your program.
Combining learning, travel, adventure, and social
reform, our two-week service learning experiences take
SHYNEL'S
EXPERIENCES
What interested you in public relations and why did you
pick Centennial?
“The thing that inspired me the most to go into this field is
the opportunity to talk to people and make connections.
I chose Centennial College because I saw how diverse it is,
and also how it’s in Toronto.”
What do you like most about your program?
“My favourite part of the program is group activities,
opportunities, and working in my field. Centennial College
blessed me with really professional professors who are
already in the industry, and who have allowed me to get
my foot into the door. They also prepared me to just be
ready for the industry.”
How has Centennial set you up for success?
Centennial College has thrown a lot of opportunities
my way that have allowed me to grow in my field.
It's also brought me a lot of connections [that] allowed
me to spread my wings.”
Chiara Di Falco
Graduate
Photography
CHIARA'S EXPERIENCES
What was it like having your program showcase your photography?
“I have never experienced something like that, so for me, it was very exciting. I was only in this program for
six months, and I already achieved this goal. I’m loving the opportunity that this college has given to me.”
What is Storyworks and how did it benefit you?
“The course involved working with real clients in order to prepare students professionally. We were divided into
groups, and each group was given the opportunity to choose their clients. The course gave us the chance to
interface with all the facets of a real professional collaboration, with all its challenges and satisfaction.”
Through Storyworks, your work was published in Vogue Magazine. What did you gain from the experience?
“This collaboration made me more confident about myself and my potential, giving me a better understanding
of the working world. I believe it's essential for students to have the chance to deal with the outside world
during the period of study.”
What’s next for you?
“I hope this is only the beginning of
my professional career, as working
as a photographer in the fashion
world is not just a job for me,
it's really my greatest passion.”
All applicants must demonstrate an acceptable
level of English language proficiency to be
considered for admission.
See more details at
CO-OP EDUCATION ADMISSIONS
To participate in co-op, register in a full-time co-opeligible
program and complete an application process.
If you academically qualify, you may be admitted to
the co-op program.
Find information about co-op at
centennialcollege.ca/applying-to-co-op
WAITING LISTS
A program waiting list is created when the number of
highest qualified applicants on the waiting list,
based on an average of the required subjects.
qualified applicants than available seats. Minimum
admission requirements do not guarantee a seat
in these programs, which often have additional
selection requirements.
Read international admissions procedure details at
centennialcollege.ca/international-education/how-to-apply
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS
To support your learning, many programs use flexible
teaching models, including online, in-person, or a
combination of these. Some programs require access
to a computing device that meets minimum hardware
requirements. Please check the program page on our
website for complete specifications.
“I never pictured myself in event planning. I read about Centennial College’s Event Planning
program, which was still relatively new at the time. I decided to take the leap, and I was not
disappointed. Because the program was still new, I found there were a lot of professors
interested in our feedback. My professors were extremely supportive and made me feel
like I was more than a student number. After my two years at Centennial College, I was
immediately hired into my industry via my co-op position. I was so grateful to have had the
experience I did. My co-op position allowed me to expand my resumé and opened doors in
the professional industry that I never thought would be open to me.”
“I found that my Centennial College programs were very practical and designed with the
employers' needs in mind. I graduated from Software Engineering and Computer Repair
and Maintenance, both programs were designed to get the student ready for the job
market. Most of my SETAS instructors have a lot of experience in the IT industry,
which I found helped the in-class projects be very similar to real-life situations.”
KURT'S EXPERIENCES
Why did you decide to come to Canada from
the Philippines?
“I graduated high school in 2020. Due to the pandemic,
I stayed at home and was planning to go back to studying in
2021. I was thinking of taking a Psychology program in the
Philippines. But my cousin, who is residing in Toronto and is now
an alumni of Centennial College, told me that she was about to
graduate and encouraged me to apply.”
Why did you choose the Food and Beverage
Management program?
“I had a passion for food since I was a kid. I trained myself to
cook during the pandemic, and it made me choose food and
beverage as my field of study. When my cousin told me about
Centennial, I researched the college and the testimonials were
great. That’s why I only applied to Centennial — nowhere else!”
What new skills did you gain in Food and Beverage
Management?
“The program offers culinary courses that widened my knowledge
of cooking techniques and working in the kitchen safely. I didn't
have any idea about beverages, especially alcohol, but the
courses gave me knowledge about it. Now, I'm confident enough
to make you drinks for your upcoming party!”
How did Food and Beverage Management prepare
you for career success?
“Before coming to Centennial College, I was just a high school
graduate without any work experience and knowledge. This
program prepared me to enter the workforce, and it helped me at
my first-ever kitchen job. It feels like this program was designed
for me, and I am having so much fun in my career!”
Kurt Cobain Cenita
Graduate
Food and Beverage
Management
What has your career trajectory been since you graduated?
“Because of the skills I gained through the program, I got
promoted to a supervisor [at my workplace]. I am applying all
the lessons I learned about managing a restaurant, leadership,
and professionalism.”
What would you say to students considering
this program?
“You never know, you might be the next owner of a Michelin
Star restaurant! Aim high. Go to Centennial College, and you
will never go wrong!”
FIND YOUR COMMUNITY
MEET A CENTENNIAL STUDENT
SHAMOY'S
EXPERIENCES
Why did you choose Centennial?
“As an international student, you sometimes have to weigh
the cost of education and how it can benefit you more in
the long run. Centennial had a program that was two years
long, which could get me into the doors that I needed to
get into.”
What was your experience getting into the Canadian
job market?
“I had two separate placement semesters, one was two
months and the other one was four. The work really helped
me to find my footing in the professional setting, especially
since I had no prior work experience in this country.”
How did you enjoy your field placements?
“The great thing about Centennial is they give you the
option to figure out exactly where you want to get placed ...
I was very comfortable with my placements because they
matched exactly what my interests were, and I went into
them already confident because they gave me the tools
to succeed.”
Shamoy Marstin
Graduate
Community Development Work
You used your learning to build a program that helps
local business. How?
“In my courses, they were big on intersectionality: thinking
of ways different community issues might simultaneously
affect each other without us noticing. Strategies and
practices that I learned in my courses helped me put
this idea together, too. Even templates that I got in
my assignments helped me to pitch it to my board of
directors.”
Why is practical experience essential?
“Never take your practicals for granted. A lot of the
practical experiences that you think are everyday tasks will
be very important when you decide to launch your career.”
