Introduction
Vestige emerges of the essence of the colonial era that is hidden in the
pages of the book “Of Love and Other Demons” by Gabriel García
Márquez. Just like the Santa Clara convent in history, the houses of
Cartagena hide the traces of all those who inhabited it, thus preserving
the colonial spirit of a city where different races and cultures were
mixed, from the Spanish settlers to the African slaves, who despite
being foreigners in these lands, impregnated them with their essence
and culture.

The hard metal is seduced by the scorching
power of fire that reveals the deep desire of
metals to return to their natural state, as salts
in nature.
Fire, like time, evaporates leaving behind
it an endless number of traces that give
identity to the surfaces through which they
passed.

Metal is stubborn and must be treated
with love, he listens to the ideas that are
proposed to him but the result is his decision.
When it takes a position it is immovable, no
matter how much pressure is put on it, it will
not budge. However, if he is treated with
love and more importantly if he is listened
to, he is magical and can take unexpected
and beautiful forms that reveal his particular
properties, making him attractive and
surprising.

In the midst of its hardness and apparent
coldness, fire enters between the metal’s
stressed molecules, to make it malleable and
allow it to recover its nature.
The fire fills the metal with life, thus revealing
one of its best qualities, allowing it to
transform itself as many times as necessary
and in a great number of ways, but always
under the desire of the material.

Although metal is hard to work with, it gives
as a reward to the dedicated work, a great
amount of possibilities and expressions in
form, texture and color, resulting in pieces
that will always generate astonishment for
those who see it.

From the process used to transform the metal,
it acquires particular shapes, which are often
overlooked, but which offer possibilities as
interesting as the metal itself.

When the metal melts, it clusters together,
forming irregular masses like stones, but which
can be transformed to give the material a
new beginning. This is a characteristic quality
of this material, as long as it is worked within
its possibilities, it can be modified as many
times as desired and it will be ready to adopt
the state that is proposed to it.
From the flatness of a sheet, to the volume
of a stone, the metal is the trace of the
work done and therefore of the negotiation
between the material and the one who
wants to transform it.

To work with metal it is necessary to learn
to listen, because although it allows a
great variety of possibilities in terms of its
manipulation, this must be done within the
possibilities and always keeping the limits
that the material imposes, according to its
nature.

Metal is complex and it is necessary
to know how to treat it so that it feels
comfortable with the changes you want to
make to it. When it is not treated with the
care it demands, it becomes reluctant to
transformations.

Understanding metal requires two important
things, the first is the guidance of someone
who knows it and patiently teaches you to
listen to it and understand its conditions. The
second is experimentation, because only by
having contact with it is it possible to learn to
understand it.
This is why, although it is difficult, metal
awakens love for those who learn to work
with it, because it not only allows to explore
all its manifestations, but also teaches the
value of patience, listening and the ability
to understand the other beyond one’s own
interests.
