GET LOST
In 1994, two Czech teenagers created "Tajemství Oslího Ostrova," now available in English as
"The Secret of Donkey Island." This parody of "The Secret of Monkey Island" series celebrates
its 29th anniversary with an English version, making it accessible for free.
The game's story features Gajbraš Tripvůd, a parody of Guybrush Threepwood, stranded on
an island after a shipwreck caused by LeGek, echoing LeChuck from Monkey Island. Players
navigate challenges, exploring the island and avoiding LeGek.
The translation was done by Emmxyzzy, with translation tools from Sonneveld, allowing
English-speaking players to enjoy the game's humour and adventure.

FREEDOM!
In the 1990s, schools started using
educational games like 'The Oregon
Trail' to teach kids. Another game,
Freedom!, was also released by MECC
in 1992. But instead of focusing on
pioneer settlers, Freedom! tackled the
sensitive topic of slavery in America.
The game gave players a unique
educational experience by letting them
step into the shoes of runaway slaves.
'Freedom!' aimed to educate players
about the harsh realities of slavery. In
the game, players took on the role of a
runaway slave and experienced the
challenges of escaping slavery from a
first-person perspective.
Even though Freedom!' was supposed
to be an educational game, it received
a lot of flak for presenting sensitive
topics. People said it was just
promoting racial stereotypes. Because
of all the controversy, the game was
removed from schools and eventually
discontinued altogether. This whole
thing showed how difficult it can be to
tackle tricky historical subjects
through video games.
Another earlier game, "Freedom: Rebels in the
Darkness," developed by Afro-Caribbean developer
Muriel Tramis in 1988, similarly challenges conventional
narratives.
This game redefines traditional views on slavery,
focusing on slave rebellion and historical prejudices.
