Saturday proved to be an important victory away
at Bristol Rovers for us, and the players showed
great belief and determination to find a way to
win in very testing conditions away from home.
Performances in the last few weeks, and especially
in recent away games, have not resulted in the
points tally we arguably deserved. Therefore, I
am delighted that we were able to tough it out in
a workmanlike performance and bring the three
points back to Bolton.
The victory at Bristol Rovers also
saw us equal the number of points we
achieved over the entirety of last season –
81 – with four games still to go. Again, a signifier
of our continued progression season-on-season.
Taking into account the adversity that we have
faced in the last few months, to still be in the thick
of the promotion picture is testament to this group
of players, and we have to continue that level of
performance now until the end of the season.
I would like to welcome John Mousinho, his staff,
players and the Portsmouth supporters to the
Toughsheet this afternoon.
There is no denying they have had a fantastic
season and we know there is a lot riding on this
afternoon’s game for them, but the same can be
said for us.
It is an important stage of our season, where
every goal, save and point is so vital in how the
league table will look for us come full-time at
Peterborough on the final day.
We know there is plenty of outside
noise regarding the way the end of
the season is shaping up, but the
important thing for us is to focus
solely on ourselves and ensure we
take care of our own business.
With four games to go and everything
to play for, now is the time for us to all pull
in the same direction. The support in Bristol
last weekend, as it has been all season, was
outstanding and we need to be united as a
Football Club for the final few games.
If we are to achieve our targets at the end of
the season, we need to do it together - and that
continues today.

Good Afternoon and a warm welcome to the
Toughsheet Community Stadium for the first of
three big home games in just eight days.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to all visiting
supporters, players, staff and directors who have
made the long trip from Portsmouth today.
At the time of writing, we are proud to have sold well
over 23,000 tickets for today’s fixture which is another
bumper crowd here at the home of Bolton Wanderers.
This comes just weeks after 25,266 supporters filled
the stands for our Easter Monday fixture against
Reading. The home attendance alone that day
was 23,967 – the highest since the Whites were last
in the Premier League in 2011/12 season.
It was also fantastic to see the South Stand Lower
buzzing with supporters for that fixture, made
possible by the huge demand for tickets for our final
Community Day of the season.
Today, we have half of the South Stand Lower open to
home supporters whilst we trial a new segregation line
through the middle of the stand. This forms part of our
ongoing assessment of how supporters best view and
enjoy football at the Toughsheet Community Stadium
with a view to exploring and establishing the best way
forward for the 24/25 season – a facet of which is our
work around safe standing.
We launched our Safe Standing Survey towards the
end of last month and we have already had a fantastic
response, with well over 3,500 fans completing the
survey and up to the point of the programme going
to print, 89% voting in favour of safe standing. The
survey will remain open for fans to have their say
until Friday 19th April, and we would urge those who
haven’t shared their views yet to go on to our club
website and do so.
For these final three home games, we were also
pleased to launch our new Ticket Exchange initiative.
Ticket Exchange is our brand new official online
resale platform which offers season ticket holders
the opportunity to resell their seat to an Official Club
Member (or other supporters if the game goes on
general sale) for fixtures they are unable to attend.
Via the new system, seats will continually become
available across the Toughsheet Community Stadium
right up until the day of the game with supporters able
to list their seat up until two hours before kick-off.
For the remaining home games of the season, once
the relisted seat is sold, season ticket holders
will be credited £10 for an adult ticket
and £5 for an under
12 or under 18 ticket,
which can be redeemed
for a future purchase.
A huge thank you to
the large number of
fans who have already
listed their tickets for
resale and we urge
all those who already
know they are unable
to attend either the Shrewsbury or Port Vale fixtures to
take up the opportunity to do the same.
Another huge ongoing campaign has been for our
2024/25 Early Bird season tickets which, at the time
of writing, we are now well on the way to 13,000
sold. Thank you, as ever, for this phenomenal show of
support and a huge thanks to our Ticket Office staff
who, it’s safe to say, have had a very busy few weeks!
Tomorrow, we look forward to heading to London for
the annual EFL Awards, for which the club has been
nominated in the Diversity Award category. This is
in recognition of the extensive work we have carried
out in the last 12 months around stadium accessibility
and ensuring the Toughsheet is a safe and welcoming
place for all visitors.
This comes at the same time that Wanderers’ in-house
hospitality and events team have been nominated in
three categories at the upcoming Stadium Events and
Hospitality Awards 2024!
With a new look and feel in each suite, there have also
been fantastic improvements to service as well as the
food and beverage offering. We are so proud to have
seen record numbers through the doors and to have
sold out our hospitality areas on multiple occasions
this season.
Our congratulations go to Chris Gibson, Vicky Perry,
Amanda Grundy and the whole Club Bolton team.
To round off this big upcoming week, we’ll be
welcoming over 800 guests to our annual End of
Season Awards, hosted in the Premier Suite following
the Port Vale fixture on 20th April. These are, again,
record numbers for this event and we have now
opened up the mezzanine floor to accommodate even
more guests – so please do snap up your tickets if you
haven’t already.
It’s a pivotal few weeks ahead for Bolton Wanderers.
Thank you for your outstanding support throughout
what has been an exciting campaign. Whatever the
final outcome may be, planning continues at pace for
the 2024/25 season and we look forward to sharing

Since arriving at the club in the summer of
2020 with the club in League Two, the skipper
has become a mainstay in Wanderers’ backline.
With 170 appearances to his name in a Bolton
shirt, the central defender has been a big part of
the continued progression under Ian Evatt, with
the club currently chasing promotion back to the
second tier for the first time since 2019.
With just four games remaining, his sights - along
with the rest of his teammates - is firmly on the
fight for the top two to push the club on to the next
level.
“Every year that I’ve been here, we’ve been making
huge strides forward. We’ve done well again this
season, but we’d like to do more and finish strongly
to achieve our goals,” he said.
“The club, on and off the field, has been gradually
improving from the moment I came in the door,
and hopefully this is the year we can take that next
step and get promoted.”
Ahead of kick-off this afternoon against the league
leaders, Wanderers sit 3rd and looking to continue
their pursuit of the automatic places in League
One.
For Almeida Santos, he is relishing the upcoming
battle against today’s opponents with a big home
crowd waiting to back them every step of the way.
“It’s a big game, they’re top of the table and you
always want to get a result against the team at the
top,” he said.
“It’s going to be a tough game but we’re really
looking forward to it. We’re at home, it’s going to
be a great crowd and it’s set to be a really good
game.
“Pompey are the league leaders and have some
good attacking players, so I’ll be rolling my sleeves
up and giving my all, along with the rest of the
lads.
“We didn’t perform to our best when we went
down there. We want to show everyone what we
can do and prove what we are about.
“The fans will be massive for us - they make home
games so much easier for us to be ourselves and
help to push us on.
“They give us that confidence to keep going and
that’s so important to have. Throughout the season,
they’ve helped us to get wins and when they’re
behind us, they are huge.”
The mindset for Wanderers has been consistent in
the last few weeks, in that of taking control of their
own business and let the league table to take care
of itself.

With seven points picked up from their previous
three games, including a battling three points at
Bristol Rovers last time out, the message remains
the same as the end of the season edges closer.
“The Gaffer has been consistent in his messaging
to us, and saying that if we do our job, then that
will put us in our best position,” he said.
“If teams elsewhere slip up, then they slip up. But
if they don’t, we head into a play-off campaign in
good form.
“It’s a good mindset for us to have in focusing on
ourselves and not looking anywhere else but our
upcoming games.

“The Reading and Bristol Rovers games were
good markers for us. Everyone has took a lot of
confidence from them and we just need to stay
focused and keep going.
“The mood in camp is good and positive at
the moment. We know we’ve made it hard for
ourselves, in that we have to win every game now,
but we know we’re capable of that.
“We’ve shown what we can do this season and
now we have to keep going, play with freedom and
try to get the results.”

TOMMY BANKS
Now in his 95th year and the
oldest living former England
International player, former
Wanderers full back Tommy
Banks represented the club
from 1947 until 1961, making 255
League and Cup appearances and
was a member of the 1958 FA Cup
final success against Manchester
United.
He became only the second Bolton
player, after Nat Lofthouse, to play
in a World Cup Finals competition
when in 1958 he made four
appearances, losing out to the USSR
in a play-off having drawn their
three group games against USSR,
Brazil and Austria.
The last of his six caps came in a
3-3 draw against Northern Ireland in
Belfast in October 1958.

PORTSMOUTH
AFTER MORE THAN A DECADE OUTSIDE THE
CHAMPIONSHIP, PORTSMOUTH ARE ON THE
BRINK OF A RETURN TO THE SECOND TIER OF
ENGLISH FOOTBALL, WRITES PETE OLIVER.
Back-to-back relegations following their exit
from the Championship in 2012, saw Pompey
fall into the bottom division for the first time
since the end of the 1970s.
It’s been a slow climb back for a club which was
champions of England for two seasons in a row in
1949 and ’50.
But having overcome damaging ownership
issues, time in administration, fines and points’
deductions, the 2008 FA Cup winners are closing
in on promotion – probably as League One
winners – to the division they last won in 2003.
Having dropped to the bottom rung, Portsmouth
were to spend four seasons in League Two and
faced the prospect of relegation from the EFL
at stages of the 2014/15 season before finally
finishing 16th in the table.
Two seasons later, under the management of Paul
Cook, they were promoted as champions but, like a
number of former top-flight clubs, Pompey haven’t
found escaping League One easy.
Under Kenny Jackett they lost in the play-off semifinals
in both 2019 and 2020, the second time on
penalties when John Mousinho was one of those
successful from the spot for Oxford United.
Now, with Mousinho at the helm – and after
missing out on a top-six finish in each of the last
three seasons – Portsmouth finally look certain to
get the job done.
An impressive record of just four defeats all season
– and two away from home – has put the Fratton
Park side within one more win of going up.
Colby Bishop is the division’s second top scorer
and away from home no side has conceded fewer
goals than Mousinho’s men.
Wanderers won’t be laying out the red carpet
today with promotion aspirations of their own to
keep pursuing as they strive to follow Pompey up.
But even a Whites’ win would probably only delay
the celebrations as Portsmouth finally close in on
the prize.

JANUARY, 2023.
The midfielder joined Portsmouth from Oxford
United, where he had been player-coach and
made a total of 151 appearances in his five-anda-half
years with the U’s.
Mousinho’s previous clubs also included Burton
Albion, Preston North End, Stevenage, Wycombe
Wanderers and Brentford, where he started his
career in 2005 before going on to make a total of
over 500 playing appearances.
He was a promotion winner from League Two with
both Burton and Stevenage and is now closing
in on a career hat-trick with Portsmouth after
hanging up his boots.
The Londoner has enjoyed an outstanding start
to his managerial career since being appointed
by Portsmouth in the aftermath of back-to-back
defeats by Wanderers in the EFL Trophy and
League One mid-way through last season.
A 3-0 loss at the Toughsheet Community Stadium
left Pompey 15th place in League One before
Mousinho kick-started a revival that saw the south
coast-club lose just four more games before the
end of the 2023/24 campaign and end the season
in eighth.
Mousinho’s side has kicked on again this
term, with the 37-year-old winning
League One’s Manager of the
Month awards for September and
February.
And Pompey head to Wanderers
today still in the top spot they
have occupied for much of
the season, with Mousinho
potentially about to add his
name to Portsmouth’s list of
title-winning managers on the
back of a remarkable record of
just eight losses in his 65 league
games in charge.

THE DEN
(MILLWALL)
Before moving to their new stadium a short
distance away, The Den was home to Millwall
between 1910 and 1993, with their old home
now occupied by housing.
Wanderers’ visits to New Cross always proved
challenging - even in successful seasons - so much
so that in 12 league visits, they never registered a
victory with just a single point being recorded.
Jack Rimmer scored Bolton’s first ever league goal
on the ground in December 1933 but the Lions,
who were relegated at the end of the term, ran out
2-1 winners in a Second Division game, as were
all the league fixtures between the clubs until the
1980s.
It wasn’t until December 1966 that Bolton next
played at the Den. (programme pictured)
Early goals in the second half from Len Juliens and
Billy Neal gave them a 2-0 win. Wanderers scored
their first post-war goal on the ground in August
1968 but unfortunately it was a late consolation
netted by then club record signing Terry Wharton
(pictured) after Keith Weller had netted a hat-trick
for Millwall.
John Byrom was the next Wanderer to net a
league goal for Bolton at The Den in March

win 5-2 and secure the runners up spot behind
champions, Bradford City.
1974 but it came after goals from Alf Wood and
Derek Smethurst had put the Lions ahead. The
following November (programme pictured) they
finally gleaned something with Wanderers keeper
Barry Siddall saving Gordon Bolland’s penalty,
only for Gordon Hill to put Millwall ahead from
the rebound. Up stepped Wanderers Scottish
striker and former Millwall player, Hugh Curran, to
equalise in the 53rd minute but the point was only
earned thanks to another penalty save from Siddall
- again from Bolland on the hour mark.
The last two games between the clubs at the
ground ended in heavy defeats for Bolton at Third
Division level. In May 1984 a Dean Neal hat trick,
before a crowd of just 2,346, the
lowest for any game between the
clubs, gave Millwall a 3-0 win.
In May 1985, two George Oghani
(pictured) goals gave Wanderers
a 2-1 half-time lead, to put a
spoke into the Lions’ promotion
hopes but they came back to
Bolton’s cup visits to The Den have produced
better results. A second round FA Cup replay in
1915 ended 2-2 before 24,801, the biggest gate for
any game between the clubs - with Bolton winning
the replay 4-1 at Burnden Park. In the League Cup
in October 1973, a 1-1 draw was the result with Paul
Jones earning a replay, only for Millwall to win the
replay at Burnden.
The New Den has been much kinder to Bolton with
three of the eight league visits being won. Millwall
won the first 1-0 in January 1994 but a late goal
from former Lion John McGinlay in March 1995
earned the points and a first ever success over
Millwall on their home turf at the 16th attempt.
The last five League visits have seen Bolton
unbeaten - winning on two occasions - the last
trip in November 2018 ending 1-1, again Bolton’s
goal coming from a former Millwall player in Mark
Beevers.
In the FA Cup, a Fifth Round tie in February 2012
was settled in the Whites’ favour in a 2-0 win, with
goals from Ryo Miyaichi (pictured celebrating his
goal) and David N’Gog.

Vinny Mullineaux is enjoying a special day with his
mates, making the most of hospitality provided by
an afternoon spent in the 1877 Suite.
Vinny and Co are celebrating Vinny’s upcoming
marriage to his fiancée Melissa. All those with him
today are very much looking forward to the wedding
in Corfu at the end of May.
By then, fingers crossed, the Wanderers will have
safely secured their return to the Championship,
giving everyone reason for a double celebration in
the Adriatic. Have a great day Vinny.

growing up and playing football together on Hulton
Lane playing fields, Bolton, before forming Stags
Head Utd team in 1974.
Between 1974 and 1988 the club (which became
Christ Church F.C. and D.F Clifton) won eight league
titles and six cups, playing matches in four European
countries.
Today, former team members and managers are in
Club McGinlays, celebrating 50 years since forming
and playing their first competitive match in April
1974.

Congratulations on your 90th Birthday. Arthur has
supported Bolton since 1941 aged 7, when he saw
Nat Lofthouse score his first goal for the Whites.

Much missed son-in-law to Arthur. John watched
Bolton, with Arthur, for 36 years. Often pushing
Arthur to the match in a wheelchair to support the
Whites.

SCHOOLREADERS
Schoolreaders is a charity dedicated to
improving children’s literacy by recruiting
volunteers to go into local primary schools
to listen to children read. Schoolreaders
volunteers not only help to improve children’s
literacy, but also help them to find the joy in
reading, which will set them up for a lifetime of
learning to come.
One in four children are currently leaving primary
school unable to read to the expected standard.
These children cannot fully access their secondary
education, which will have a lifelong negative
impact on their future opportunities. One of the
key reasons that children are not learning to read
is that they are getting insufficient one-to-one
reading time with an adult.
Schoolreaders is looking for more volunteers in
Bolton. The need for reading support is greater
than ever, with 1 in 6 primary schools having
joined Schoolreaders seeking our volunteers.
Schoolreaders volunteers commit to an hour
a week for a full academic year. No teaching
experience is required, just patience, time, and a
good grasp of English.

In memory of Danielle Hampson and to
raise money for Cardiac Risk In The Young,
three friends – including the son of Bolton
Wanderers Director, Michael James – are
running the Manchester marathon and London
marathon in the space of just one week.
Danielle tragically passed away on 18th June 2022
at the age of 34, the morning after what should
have been her wedding day. Danielle was a mother
to her young son Bowie, fiancé to Tom, and a
sister, daughter and friend.
An incredibly talented dancer, Danielle performed
with artists including the Spice Girls, Take That,
Harry Styles and many more.
Friends of the family, Dominic James, Josh Caffrey
and Mike Fairclough are the three runners taking
on the huge challenge.

WANDERERS’ IFTAR
EVENT A SUCCESS
Over 120 people gathered in the 1877 Suite at the
Toughsheet Community Stadium last week for the
second annual Bolton Wanderers in the Community
(BWitC) Iftar.
Attended by club Chairman Sharon Brittan, Mayor
Mohammed Ayub, Imam Imran Hussein and Leader of
Bolton Council, Councillor Nick Peel, Iftar is the daily
fast-breaking evening meal observed by Muslims during
Ramadan.
After breaking the fast, guests were invited to observe
the Maghrib Prayer, before enjoying a delicious buffet of
lamb curry, vegetarian curry, samosas, and roti, followed
by Shahi Halwa for dessert.
Alongside all those who attended and contributed to the
event, Bolton Wanderers in the Community would like
to thank Shabnum Bashir for all her hard work planning
and delivering the event, as well as Bolton Solidarity
Community Association and Bolton Stadium Hotel.

Earlier this week our very own Super John
McGinlay celebrated his 60th Birthday and it
goes without saying that each and everyone of us
congratulates John and wishes him many happy
returns and all the best for the years ahead.
As Super John marks this milestone birthday, it gives
us an opportunity to reflect upon all that he does in
our Club and Community with thanks.
Most will remember John as the goal-scoring machine
that he was between 1992-1997 here at Bolton
Wanderers. Who can forget the magic moments
from such a striker and the memories that he created
including the White Hot days and nights?
John went on to do so much more in his career
beyond his time at Bolton, but Wanderers were always
close to his heart, and it was to Bolton he returned. He
will always speak with passion about the importance
of supporting your local Club and getting behind the
team.
John fully understands the vital role that a Club plays
in its town and has always been keen to play his part
in making sure that Bolton Wanderers is right at the
heart of the town and community.
In recent years, John has served as Club Ambassador
and I cannot think of anyone better to serve our Club
in this way. So many of our fans share stories with
me of the support, visits, and encouragement they
have received from John and give testimony of how
important that has been to them.
John serves the charity arm of the Club, Bolton
Wanderers in the Community, as a Trustee and
supports the work through his appearance and
engagement in all we do through the charity - as well
as hosting the annual golf day, raising vital funds for
the work.
John is also a Director of Wanderers Sport in the
Community and for the University of Bolton elite
team - Bolton Borough - the Director of Football,
encouraging and supporting new talent in the game.
As the President of the Bolton Wanderers Players
Association, he has built up the membership and
hosted successful events including the annual dinner
and for the past two years, co-ordinated a Christmas
Hamper appeal and distributed for those who need
them the most.
In the wider community, John also volunteers for
Bolton Hospice and has played a significant part and
gives support to Bolton Wanderers Supporters Trust
and the Bolton Wanderers Remembrance Group.
As a regular voice on Wanderers TV for match
commentary as well as BBC Radio Manchester, John
expresses his passion for our Club and all that it has
achieved in the last few years.
Earlier this season we held the official opening of the
McGinlay Suite in the East Stand, named in honour of
the man himself, an occasion he found overwhelming
and something he felt he didn’t deserve in the true
humility that John shows.
I think we would all agree that it was a well-deserved
honour, and it is good to pay tribute to all he does
today, as he celebrates his 60th birthday.

Today the BWFCST welcome the fans of
Portsmouth and in particular the Portsmouth
Supporters Trust, without whose friendship,
guidance and support in our time of need, the
BWFCST would not have been established.
In January 2016, the Portsmouth Supporters Trust
answered our call in our darkest hour, by sharing
their experiences and showing the essential role of
a Supporters Trust in football. Our sincere gratitude

Greetings from the California Trotters, the
BWFCST Affiliate on the west coast of the US.
California being the size it is, it can be difficult
to get folks in the same place.
So, it was particularly encouraging to have such
a great little turnout for a Monday afternoon
watch party at a soccer bar in San Diego for the
Portsmouth away game that was shown live here
on ESPN. The result certainly didn’t go our way, but
it was wonderful to connect with other Bolton fans.
We are organising another get together for the
Port Vale game on Saturday, April 20. So, if you
find yourself in and around San Diego at that time,

the meetup. Be prepared to be up bright and early

Nelson Khumbeni Morecambe FC
Khumbeni has
enjoyed a great start
to life in League Two,
starting in every
Morecambe match
since his arrival,
and scoring his first
Shrimps goal in their Good Friday win against
Accrington Stanley.
The 21-year-old also played a vital role as
Morecambe defeated Barrow in a 2-1 win at the
Mazumu Stadium three days later.
Despite two defeats against Doncaster and Crewe
in the last week, Morecambe sit in the top half with
three games remaining.

AFC Fylde
Conway
made his 23rd
National League
appearance of
the season for
The Coasters as
they picked up a
huge three points
on Good Friday
against Oldham
Athletic.
The left-back or wing-back featured for 85 minutes
against the Latics, before the full 90 against
Ebbsfleet last weekend, and has played a key role
in Fylde’s remarkable recovery from the relegation
places to virtual safety in 16th.
Ben Andreucci Buxton Town
Andreucci featured twice for National League
North Side Buxton FC over the Easter weekend
as the Bucks went head-to-head with former
EFL clubs Chester and Hereford, before coming
off the bench last weekend against Chorley.
Coming off the back of a brace the weekend
before, Andreucci found the net just two minutes
into the Bucks’ defeat at Chester.
The teenage striker has four goals and four assists
in nine appearances since his switch to Buxton.
Luke Matheson Bohemian FC
Matheson is on loan with the League Of Ireland
side until the summer and made his first start
at right-back against Galway United to help
the Bohs to a 2-0 win which lifted them to sixth
place in the table.
Gerald Sithole Chorley FC
Sithole was one of three B Team players who
sealed a loan move on non-league deadline day.
The striker was on the bench as Chorley beat Blyth
Spartans 2-0 on Easter Monday to stay in the playoff
picture, before his first Magpies start away at
Andreucci’s Buxton.
Chorley were then beaten by King’s Lynn, but
remain in 4th position.
Finlay Lockett Southport FC
Lockett also moved into the National League
North with Southport.
The attacking midfielder enjoyed spells off-thebench
for Southport, with appearances against
Scunthorpe United and Darlington, both games
ending in defeat for the Sandgrounders.
Gio Loureiro Nantwich Town
Loureiro moved on deadline day as he joined
Northern Premier League side Nantwich Town
for the remainder of the season.
Gio was an unused substitute in the 0-0 away draw
at high-flying Runcorn Linnets on Good Friday but
came off the bench to score on his debut on Easter
Monday in a 4-3 win over Hednesford Town to stay
in touch with the play-off places.
The attacker then earned a start in the following
game and played 82 minutes in a 4-2 win over
Stalybridge Celtic.

CARLISLE UNITED 0
Wanderers U18s had a successful Easter
Saturday with a dominant display against
Carlisle United.
Julian Darby’s side stamped immediate authority
causing the Carlisle defence problems from the
off and only 15 minutes into the match, Conor
Lewis had the opener. A long ball over to James
Westwood allowed him to beat the offside trap and
his pass into Lewis allowed his first-time strike to
find the back of the net.
It didn’t take long for Wanderers to add the
second, coming only two minutes after the first.
U18s top scorer Harrison Fleury rounded the
keeper after a defence-splitting pass from Conor
Lewis who grabbed his first of two assists in the
match.
Just before the half hour mark, Wanderers had
their third and it came via a well-worked move.
James Westwood, Conor Lewis and Daeshon
Lawrence combined leaving Harley Irwin to round
the Carlisle keeper and turn home.
The young Whites weren’t done and Daeshon
Lawrence made it four before the break as another
Wanderers set piece caused problems, allowing
Lawrence to calmly dispatch.
The second-half started as the first had ended with
Wanderers making it five with another well-worked
attack. Westwood and Lewis combined again
down the right before Emile Oliver smashed a halfvolley
under the goalkeeper.
Wanderers U18s are currently going strong in 2nd
position and chasing 1st placed Preston North End.
