EDITORIAL
Dear customers and partners,
In the last three years society has been put
under incredible stress. This has been particularly
true for supply chains and the logistics
providers who have struggled to keep goods
flowing. The only companies to emerge from
the crisis alive were those that took the right
steps to ensure their „health“.
For companies, health means living according
to the values which they have defined
and live by. As the founder of the company,
it was important for me, from the very beginning,
to run a company where I would be
able to share my values with my employees
and live them together. We choose our employees,
customers and hauliers according to
these criteria. For this reason, at the end of
the pandemic and the beginning of new crises,
we can now look back on tremendous
growth.
Our goal and strategy not to grow with more
turnover and more transports, but to steer
the company according to our value criteria.
This is what ultimately led to this success.
Through clear and RESPECTFUL COMMUNI-
CATION, the team and our stakeholders always
knew what to do. Our creditworthiness
protected us from customers who got into financial
difficulties and gave us the possibility
to pay our drivers and hauliers with shortened
and prompt payment term.
Also, unlike many, our employees never had
to fear for their jobs. Thanks to our EDUCA-
TION value, we were able to quickly onboard
new employees in our UnitCargo Academy
and thus were able to manage the rapid
growth we have experienced in these past
three years.
I do not want to go into each value individually.
But dear partners, my wish is that you
continue to share this better logistics world
we live in and contribute to a sustainable and
prosperous planet.
with orange regards,
EcoVadis, the Rating
System for Sustainability
By Ines Kiszala, BA
Head of Quality Management
Starting in 2023, UnitCargo has adopted
the Ecovadis Rating system
for evaluating sustainability. With it, a
platform is created linking companies throughout
several industries and sizes to provide them with
supplier sustainability ratings and CSR reports in
a standardized way. Currently more than 100,000
companies within 200 industries all over the world
are using the EcoVadis tool.
For UnitCargo, it primarily adds to our focus
on sustainability as a process of continuous
improvement but goes beyond that, it covers
21 different areas within 4 main areas:
Sustainability, Ethics, Human Rights and Sustainable
Procurement:
• Ethics, covering the areas of anti-corruption.
• Human Rights covers the areas of employees
health, working conditions, diversity,
discrimination etc.
• Sustainability, includes all aspects of
carbon reduction and climate change with
• Sustainable Procurement covering the area of
sustainable procurement activities, which are
set within the organization
For us at UnitCargo the EcoVadis Rating fits perfectly
into our existing management system. As of
now, UnitCargo is certified according to ISO 9001,
ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, which already covers the
areas of sustainability and occupational health &
safety. Having the EcoVadis standards integrated
into our management system creates a direct link
to all of our main values of Sustainability, Health
& Safety, Anti-Corruption, Diversity and Respect is
the main focus.
CFO
The crises of recent years have put
the economy to the test. It has become
clearer than ever that the financial
health of a company is essential. Creditworthiness
of all its partners has a significant impact on its
existence and development. In this case, the proverb:
„You are who you surround yourself with“ is
absolutely appropriate. The credit agency Dun &
Bradstreet is a reliable partner for credit assessment
of our customers and suppliers. It helps us to
decide whether a cooperation would be safe. It is
very important for our customers and suppliers to
have a stable partner in Unitcargo. Financially, there
is an interaction between Unitcargo, customers
and suppliers. Due to customers‘ inability to pay or
long payment terms, Unitcargo and its suppliers
suffer. Financially weak suppliers can only ensure
poor quality and reliability of the supply chains.
Unitcargo is one of the companies with very good
credit rating, which is also confirmed by the Dun &
Bradstreet Rating Certificate.
Let me take you to Palace Schönbrunn,
one of my favorite places. It’s
very diverse so you have several attractions
in one place. Whether it‘s taking a stroll around
the park, visiting the zoo, palm house, Marionette
Theater and castle, or just getting a cup of coffee
at the Café Gloriette. At this place, there is always
something wonderful to see.
If you’re visiting Schönbrunn it is worth taking a look
at Schönbrunn Palace both from the outside as
well as the interior. It’s one of the most beautiful Baroque
palaces in all of Europe. With it’s 1,441 rooms
in total, with 45 open to visitors, it is truly a mag-
nificent example of the rococo style, having been
commissioned in 1743, by Empress Maria Theresa,
who completely rebuilt the existing palace and gardens.
Due to its historical significance, distinctive
design, and beautiful furnishings, the palace is now
a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Palm House
Many Mediterranean, tropical, and subtropical
plants can be found in the Palm House. Emperor
Franz Joseph gave the go-ahead to construct the
Palm Mansion in 1882. With a length of 111 meters,
2,500 square meters of ground space, and 4,900
square meters of glass surface, the building is the
biggest palm house in Europe which is comprised
of three interconnected pavilions. The largest room
features plants from the Canary Islands, South Africa,
America, and Australia, as well as the Mediterranean
region. Plants from China, Japan, the Himalayan
region, and New Zealand can be found in the
northern room. The third region contains plant life
from the tropics and subtropics.
Marionette Theater
The multi-award winning Marionette Theater at
Schönbrunn Palace enchants with artistic puppetry
in meticulous stage settings, fusing 250 years of
tradition with cutting-edge technology. The marionettes
entertain audiences of all ages throughout
the year with a wide range of varying opera, operetta,
and musical acts. either as a full-length adult
show or in a family-friendly adaptation.
After a walk up to the Gloriette you can treat yourself
to a coffee with an Austrian delicacy in the “Café
Gloriette”. Located on a hill in the park of Schönbrunn
Palace the Gloriette offers a magnificent view
of Vienna. It was built in 1775 as a temple of glory.
In 1780 stained glass windows were installed and
it was used as a dining and banquet hall. In addition,
it served Emperor Franz Joseph I as a breakfast
room. The Gloriette was destroyed by bombs
in 1945 during the Second World War. From 1947 to
1950, the building was restored. In 1995
it was newly restored and glazed. It
has functioned as the „Café Gloriette“
coffee house and restaurant.
The oldest zoo in the world is the Schönbrunn Zoo.
It was established in 1752 by Maria Theresa‘s husband,
Emperor Franz I Stephan of Lorraine, and is
now a part of Schönbrunn, a place of international
significance. Six times in a row, it has been crowned
the top zoo in Europe (2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018
and 2021). The zoo, which has a 17-hectare area, offers
shelter to more than 650 species of animals,
some of which are critically endangered. The giant
pandas, who have previously given birth to five kids,
are the zoo‘s most well liked inhabitants.
Summer Night Concert
The palace makes an amazing background for the
Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra‘s yearly Summer
Night Performance in the summer. In front of the
palace, a stage has been built up for an outdoor
music that starts at dusk and is free to the public.
There will be performances of classical concert, cinema,
ballet, opera, and operetta pieces. Almost 80
nations will receive the simulcast of the show.
Christmas market
Every year during the winter holidays, the Schönbrunn
Palace, which is gorgeously illuminated,
serves as an imposing background for the Christmas
market, which welcomes visitors to meander
among the 80 wooden stalls on the palace square.
Every day on the stage in front of the Christmas
tree, gospel songs and Christmas carols are sung.
The Children‘s Museum and Christmas workshops
are available for kids.
Depending on the season, the colors of nature
change, which gives the palace, park an enormous
beauty. Personally, I am very happy to work near
Schönbrunn. Where I have the opportunity to take
a walk during breaks, before and after work. If the
weather is nice enough, we like to go to the palace
park with some of our colleagues and brainstorm.
Where we notice that many good ideas come up.
Following the excellent cooperation
we have enjoyed so far and the recruitment
of many graduates of the course,
UnitCargo has become an official sponsor. The cooperation
not only brings numerous advantages to
the parties involved, but also benefits Vienna as a
business location.
The exchange of specialist and know-how from the
transport industry generates a lot of added value:
prospective logisticians at the university receive
valuable insights into practice during their training,
while UnitCargo can present itself to the specialists
of tomorrow as an attractive employer.
By integrating UnitCargo into project-related
courses, invitations to guest lectures and participating
in the FH career fair, students can get to know
logistics from a different angle and get to know the
practice of a global player in order to build up valuable
expertise in an international context. In addition,
students have the opportunity to complete
an internship at the company partner in order to
gain valuable professional experience. Some graduates
also started working at UnitCargo after their
graduation. When we talk about best practice, our
tender manager Natalia Kawczynska has to be
mentioned in this case. In addition to her professional
activity, Natalia studies logistics and transport
management at the University of Applied Sciences
BFI Vienna. As part of the cooperation, she is currently
leading a cross-company project to research
the potential of intermodal transport chains in Europe.
Such regionally anchored partnerships between
universities of applied sciences and companies
also increase the quality and attractiveness of
Vienna as a business location. This enabled us to
start several projects and studies on intermodality
in the transport chain, which we want to push ahead
with in the coming years. We anticipate that this
cooperation will support us to take UnitCargo from
its current position as a pre-eminent truck haulier
to that of a fossil-free logistics provider within the
next 15 years.
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning
gymnastics, among others. The goal
is to develop exercisers in a balanced
Endurance (cardiovascular or respiratory
endurance and stamina), Power
(performance and strength), Agility,
Speed, Dexterity, Balance, Coordination
fitness as higher performance
in all of these areas.
Few years ago Mr. Sertić became
part of an active group of colleagues
and exchange their experience
on their individual workout.
This was something totally
different from going in a gym
and following a set of exercises without any interaction
with other members. What is the best thing
in CrossFit? According to Mr. Sertić it is being part
of a group, which constantly set common challenges
and achieve them with help and the knowledge
of other members. Our CrossFit’s group is
a great community of business people who has
Transport Logistic, the International
Trade Fair in Munich
By Gabriele Friessnegger
Head of Key Account Management
Transport logistic is the leading international
trade fair for logistics, mobility,
IT and supply chain management.
It has been held every two years in Munich since
1978. The four-day trade fair is regarded in
the logistics industry as the leading platform for
international networking. In addition to innovative
products, systems and technologies, it offers its
visitors concentrated expert knowledge. We have
already successfully participated in the logistics
trade fair in Munich in 2019. It was a great success
for UnitCargo and we were able to strengthen our
existing networks and build new ones!
Many regular customers, but also new customers
visited our stand. For us it is an ideal and good international
platform where UnitCargo can present
itself and meet our existing customers and partners
and make new contacts.
We are pleased that this year UnitCargo will be
part of the Austrian group exhibition at the Transport
Logistic 2023. The group stand of the Austrian
Federal Economic Chamber is located in Hall A4,
Stand 109/210.
The Transport Logistics exhibition has, since 1978,
been held in Munich every two year. Over that period
it has gained for itself a reputation as the premier
place for all those concerned with logistics, mobility,
IT and supply chain management. Disruption
caused by the Covid pandemic put a stop to this
in 2020 but I am happy to say that the exhibition
will resume this year between 9.–12. May and that
once again UnitCargo will be there to meet clients
and suppliers. You will find us in the Austrian area
in Hall A4, stand 109/210. Tickets are available online
