themes of motion, transformation, and human aspiration.
Born in 1968 in Remscheid, West Germany, Tillmans’ artistic
journey began after he graduated from the esteemed Bournemouth
and Poole College of Art and Design and immersed
himself in the vibrant art scene of London. His exceptional
talent and innovative approach were recognized when he
became the first photographer to win the prestigious Turner
Prize in 2000, a historic milestone that elevated the status of
photography as an art form and expanded the horizons for
non-British artists.
In 2006, Tillmans furthered his commitment to the arts by
founding Between Bridges, a non-profit exhibition space in
Berlin dedicated to showcasing contemporary art and fostering
dialogue within the artistic community. This endeavor underscored
Tillmans’ dedication to supporting emerging artists
and promoting meaningful discourse within the art world.
Tillmans’ impact on contemporary art was further solidified
with his survey show titled “Wolfgang Tillmans: 2017” at the
