Squash club staying put after arbitration
• By Dylan Smits
THE MT PLEASANT Squash
Club appears to have won a key
battle in its bid not to be kicked
out of its premises by the adjacent
community centre.
Bay Harbour News has learned
the club can keep its license to
occupy the premises owned by the
Mt Pleasant Community Centre.
The decision has come out of
arbitration between the parties.
The dispute began in April last
year when the community centre
claimed the squash club was in
breach of its license conditions
allowing it to occupy the McCormacks
Bay Rd courts facility.
The community centre issued
a termination notice in April last
year which would have forced the
squash club to vacate the premises
by the end of May and revert management
of the courts back to the
centre.
Both sides then engaged lawyers
and agreed to a private arbitration.
The hearings were held in February
and March, with the decision
released this week.
The process has cost the parties
$9100 each.
Squash club president Hamish
Methven and community centre
manager Derek McCullough both
declined to talk to Bay Harbour
News about the arbitration. They
would also not be drawn on any
potential further legal action.
Farmer calls for co-ordinated
effort to cull wild pigs
• By Dylan Smits
A LITTLE River farmer says
ongoing population control is
needed to stop “absolute pest”
wild pigs from damaging his
land and killing his lambs.
Pete Wright noticed the
number of pigs on his Western
Valley Rd property increase over
recent years. This has reduced
significantly over the past 12
months, thanks to hunting by
groups like Pest Free Banks Peninsula,
but Wright’s concerns
remain.
“Honestly it looks like you’ve
gone through with a D8 dozer
and ploughed the land. They
move big boulders and stuff.
There’s some big old pigs out
there.”
To avoid the problem arising
again he wants hunting to
continue as Environment Canterbury
looks to engage with
the community on the issue at a
meeting tonight.
For Wright, one of his big
concerns is pigs killing his
livestock.
“It affects your lambing
percentage. These sows and big
boars get quite cunning when
FERAL: An increase in wild pigs damaging farmland
around Little River has led to a community meeting with
ECan tonight.
PHOTO: ECAN
the sheeps are starting to lamb,”
he said.
Dug up land also leads
to weeds such as thistles
blooming, which can
cause sheep to contract
scabby mouth disease.
Wright is open to an
official programme for
eradicating the pigs,
similar to the successful
Banks Peninsula
wild goat eradication
campaign that finished in
March.
“If we don’t keep on they’re
Laurence
Smith
going to keep breeding,” he said.
“If there’s spare money and
systems to get these
pigs gone, that needs to
happen.”
ECan principal biosecurity
adviser Laurence
Smith said the meeting
will help attendees
“explore ways to work
together and seek more
funding to support the
control of deer and other
feral ungulate populations.”
There are currently no population
estimates for deer or pigs
around Little River, but ECan
believes a lack of natural predators
has led to an increase over
the past few years.
Conservation groups, landowners,
the city council and
ECan co-ordinated a successful
goat eradication programme,
which fully eliminated the pest
east of Lyttelton Harbour in
March.
Smith said deer and pigs
can also have a detrimental
impact on the environment by
destroying native plants and
seeds.
Western Valley landowner
Mario Downes has noticed an
increase in deer and pigs wandering
through the farmland
around his property over the
past few years.
He hopes any funding programme
or co-ordination with
ECan will take into account the
current approach of hunters.
“The meat should be feed
back into the community. They
shouldn’t just be shot and left
like was done with a lot of the
goats,” he said.
The meeting will be held at
the Banks Peninsula Rugby
Club from 5.30-7pm.
Pet cat loses leg in gin trap
• By Claire Reid
A HEATHCOTE Valley cat
owner has issued a warning after
his beloved pet got caught in a
gin trap and lost his leg.
Matthew House has owned
his black cat Julian for two
years and is used to him going
in and out as he pleases, but
was recently left horrified after
the feline returned home with
serious injuries.
“He managed to make his way
home and was curled up on the
bed,” House said.
“My wife got up in the
morning but didn’t initially
realise anything was wrong until
she turned the light on and that’s
when she saw him – all the skin
had been ripped off his leg and
his paw was basically hanging
off.”
Following a frantic rush to
the vet, House was given the
devastating news Julian’s injuries
were so severe he would need
to have his left leg amputated.
Worryingly, House says the
vet who treated Julian said she
had seen an increase in injuries
to pets caused by leg-hold traps
– often known as gin traps.
“The vet said she’s seeing
more and more of these
types of injuries and that
they’re happening in central
Christchurch – not just rural
IMPACT: Matthew House’s cat Julian, before and after his leg was amputated as a result
of being caught in a gin trap. He said the traps should be banned.
areas,” House said.
There’s no way of knowing
where the trap was set, but
House believes whoever set it
must have found Julian and
freed him, as escaping from the
traps is virtually impossible.
House is now calling on those
who use such traps to reconsider.
“I know that pests have to be
dealt with but there are plenty of
safe and humane traps that can
be used to catch possums and
the like,” he said.
“Gin traps should be banned;
even if it caught a possum that’s
no way to leave an animal to die.”
In New Zealand, the sale and
use of such traps are restricted
by size and type. The Ministry
of Primary Industries says:
“No leg-hold trap may be used
within 150m of a dwelling
without the permission of the
occupier, or in any area where
there is a probable risk of
catching a pet animal.”
Farming
family fined
$47,000
A BANKS Peninsula farmer
has been fined, along with his
son, for failing to register cattle
movements.
Keith Bruce Townshend, 69, and
his son Joel Charles Townshend,
39, were sentenced on Monday in
the Ashburton District Court after
a successful prosecution by the
Ministry for Primary Industries.
Under the National Animal
Identification and Tracing
scheme, cattle and deer must have
NAIT tags and be registered in
the NAIT system before they are
180 days old or moved off-farm.
Keith Townshend ran farms on
Banks Peninsula and in Ashburton.
He was fined $20,000 on two
charges under the NAIT Act for
moving cattle between Akaroa
and Forks in 2022 without declaring
it.
Joel Townshend – who operated
farms in the Ashburton district
– was fined $27,500 on three
charges.
Said MPI regional manager
animal welfare and NAIT compliance
Murray Pridham: “MPI
takes non-compliance with NAIT
seriously.
“The scheme provides a critical
tool in the fight against biosecurity
incursions such as M.bovisor foot
and mouth disease.”
NEWS
FAILED: The Mt Pleasant Community Centre’s bid to evict the squash club
from their shared premises was unsuccessful.
License breaches not
enough for eviction
• From page 1
They cited the need to discuss the
implications further with their respective
committees.
However, Bay Harbour News has learned
the reasons behind the decision.
The arbitrator ruled the squash club had
breached some license conditions but also
determined the community centre failed
to disclose those conditions before serving
a termination notice.
This failure to inform was the critical
reason why the arbitrator ruled the termination
notice invalid.
The main issues debated during arbitration
were whether the squash club had
breached its license conditions, and if any
breaches gave the community centre the
right to terminate the license.
The alleged breaches included the squash
club having members who are not also
members of the community centre.
Bay Harbour News has learned this
breach was found inconclusive because the
non-payment of an annual subscription
from the squash club to the community
centre made all dual memberships between
the groups unclear.
However, the squash club had made a
different breach – the club’s committee
did not have a member who was also part
of the community centre. The community
centre was aware of this for years and no
Coffee cart creating budding baristas
• By Dylan Smits
A CREW OF 12-year-olds
have been perfecting the art of
making and delivering coffee like
professionals far beyond their
years.
They are part of the Heathcote
Valley School coffee cart crew, a
hand-picked team of year 8s who
get up early twice a week to pump
out a range of beverages for parents
and teachers.
The cart was set up just after
the earthquakes and has helped
a new crew of year 8s learn
coffee-making and service skills
each year since then.
“Before we started I had no idea
how to work a coffee machine or
anything. I couldn’t tell the difference
between coffees,” Hanaka
Sato said.
Since joining the coffee cart
at the start of the year, Hanaka
and the crew have become adept
at preparing a standard range
of coffees, including flat whites,
cappuccinos and long blacks.
Rata Smith, Johnnie Alheit and
Maya Filipe-Taylor make up the
rest of the Monday morning shift
team.
The group operates the cart
like a typical cafe, taking orders,
payment, making the coffee
and then delivering it to waiting
customers.
“At the start of last term we
kind of had to be at their side,
helping them through it. Now I
can mostly sit outside chatting.
They’ve got really great at it,”
said parent organiser Hannah
Woodward.
The coffee cart is located in the
school library and run by parent
volunteers.
Pupils must apply for a position
on the team like they would a real
job with a CV touting their good
academic record, extracurriculars
and personal responsibility.
“I think it’s pretty cool. It’s
almost setting us up for a real job
later in life,” said Rata.
All four pupils feel prepared if
they ever decided to get work as
a barista.
“We can put it on our CVs in
the future for jobs,” said Hanaka.
Running the cart was confusing
at first but the crew can now
skilfully take and make customers
orders, with a smile.
“At the start I was very, very
shy,” said Hanaka.
Interacting with customers
and being part of the team has
increased her confidence.
“Joining the coffee cart, it’s
often for kids who maybe aren’t
the most outgoing, or like academically
skilled or sporty, but
they can come and make coffees
and learn skills and get some
confidence while doing it,” said
Woodward.
quality product. From left to
been learning how to make
and serve coffees since the
beginning of term one,
as well as buying milk and
ingredients.
Unlocking greater success
with business mentoring
GIDEON BANKS is an accidental
businessperson who is now helping
others take the accidental out of their own
businesses.
In 2003 Gideon Banks was a Zoology
student at university in Nigeria, when
an interest in graphic design led to a gig
designing websites. With the web industry
booming, his side project quickly morphed
into a start-up company of 38 staff, with
Gideon at the helm.
He’s now had an accomplished career
leading teams in the digital marketing
space, but reflecting on those early years,
he acknowledges the importance of
mentoring in helping others navigate their
entrepreneurial path.
“You don’t want to lose opportunities or
spend months or years trying to figure it all
out, when someone has already done it, and
has the formula they could just give you.”
Gideon arrived in New Zealand in
2014 and has lapped up this country’s
entrepreneurial spirit. His experience
managing teams led him to Business
Mentors New Zealand, and he now
regularly mentors small business owners.
Gideon says established business
professionals possess hidden knowledge
they may not be aware of. It’s what he
refers to as “unconscious competence’’. By
mentoring others, they can help unlock
doors for people starting out.
He says the independent spirit of New
Zealanders means we are not always good at
asking for help.
“Kiwis like to build things on their own,
and that’s great. The only thing is you can do
it much faster and better with some help.”
He says being a mentor also helps his own
personal and professional growth and keeps
him attuned to emerging trends in business.
One of the greatest rewards comes
from identifying quick wins for mentees.
Simple actions like implementing Google
Analytics or understanding search
engine optimisation can yield substantial
improvements in quick time.
While mentors may not have all the
answers, their role is vital in providing
guidance and an avenue for idea
exploration.
“As a mentor you have a sense of
responsibility, and I think that sense of
responsibility is something that helps the
business community as a whole.”
Generous move
for rugby club day
• By Sam Coughlan
DIAMOND HARBOUR are gearing up
for club day – and hosting a very special
match.
The club’s senior side plays as Diamond
Harbour – Springston in the Ellesmere
division 2 grade, due to a lack of numbers.
To celebrate club day on Saturday,
Springston’s division 1 side will travel to
Diamond Harbour for their home clash
against Woodend.
This will be the first division 1 match to
be played at the club.
President Brent Elder said it would be a
special occasion.
“For the senior team and for the
committee, I think it’s absolutely fantastic,
we’re all excited to have a match of that
calibre.
Diamond Harbour’s players are
registered with both their club and
Springston – meaning they are eligible
to play division 1 if selected, although
only halfback Sam Rendel has appeared
in a squad, coming off the bench against
Darfield three weeks ago.
Springston will wear Diamond
Harbour’s sky-blue jerseys on Saturday
not only to mark the occasion, but because
their regular green and black hoops are
identical to Woodend’s kit.
Elder said he was looking forward to the
day.
“With the quality of the rugby with
the combined team doing well and the
division 1 team and the vibe around the
juniors this season as well, I’m really
looking forward to it.
“It’ll be a real privilege to be down there
in the president role supporting.”
The club day starts with junior rugby at
8am. The combined division 2 team plays
against Banks Peninsula at 12.15pm before
Springston take on Woodend at 3pm.
Little Meow’s Big Surgery at Kōwhai Vet
In a heart-warming tale of perseverance and veterinary
expertise, the team at Kōwhai Vet recently undertook
a life-saving surgery for a tiny rescue kitten named ‘Little
Meow’. This courageous kitty, though full of life, was
struggling with a condition that impeded her ability to eat
and thrive.
Little Meow’s journey began when she was found with her
littermates at just a few weeks old. Despite her spirited
nature, she couldn’t keep up with her siblings in terms
of weight gain and was unable to hold down solid food.
Concerned for her well-being, her caregivers brought her
to Kōwhai Vet Clinic, where our dedicated team embarked
on a mission to uncover the source of her troubles.
We proceeded to use contrast imaging techniques to help
highlight any abnormalities in the upper digestive tract
in a series of x-rays. What we
discovered was both alarming
and enlightening. The liquid
was pooling in the upper part
of Little Meow’s oesophagus,
unable to pass through to her
stomach efficiently. Due to the
location of the abnormality,
the most likely cause was a
vascular ring anomaly (VRA),
a rare congenital condition,
where a blood vessel normally
present in the foetus fails to
disintegrate soon after birth
and leaves a persistent band
of tissue that forms a tight
ring around the oesophagus
Enjoying her first
meal after surgery
causing significant
constriction.
The only viable solution was
a surgical procedure to release the constriction and allow
Little Meow to eat properly. Referral to a specialist surgeon
was considered, but with limited resources for the owner,
and euthanasia being the only alternative without
surgery, we opted to perform the surgery ourselves. Our
vets meticulously researched and planned the operation,
while the excellent nursing team ensured Little Meow’s
safety and comfort throughout the anaesthetic.
The surgery, though delicate and intricate, was a
resounding success. With expert precision, the team
located and incised the offending band of tissue, freeing
Little Meow’s oesophagus from its bind. Little Meow
recovered quickly from her anaesthetic and within a
couple of hours, she was eagerly devouring her food and
keeping it all down. Probably the best meal she had ever
eaten and a stark contrast to her struggles before the
surgery.
Since her operation, Little Meow has flourished. She has
X-ray of Little Meow’s
thorax, showing the
upper part of the
oesophagus very
dilated with food
and the contrast
material. The arrow
marks the point of
the constriction.
Little Meow climbing
the cage bars before
her surgery
gained nearly a kilogram
in weight with her newfound
ability to consume
food without hindrance.
Her playful antics have
resumed, and she is
thriving in her loving
home environment.
Our team at Kōwhai
Vet are thrilled to have
been able to give Little
Meow a second chance
at life, and watching
her progress serves as
a great reminder of the
transformative power of
veterinary care.
Weenink’s U-turn on speed based on
unofficial stats disappoints residents
Last week Bay Harbour
News reported Banks
Peninsula MP Vanessa
Weenink has changed
her mind about
increasing speed
limits on SH75 after
receiving crash data
from Canterbury rural
area police commander
Peter Cooper
We drive this highway very
frequently and believe the
80km/h speed limit is too low
and 100km/h should be reinstated,
or 90km/h at worst.
That Ms Weenink and Mr
Cooper will not release data (Bay
Harbour News, May 1) renders it
worthless in any arena. The reason
they probably do not want
the data released is that it covers
the Covid period of lockdown
and then the very slow uptake of
foreign tourists returning to New
Zealand following that Covid
period.
- Bruce Glennie,
Church Bay
Vanessa Weenink
has made her mind up
to make a submission
to Parliament based
on “brief anecdotal
statistics” provided by a
policeman. Sums up the
quality of the politicians
that make up Parliament these
days. Dylan Thomsen (AA
spokesman) makes far more
sense and with the findings on
accidents post 2021, I agree parts
of the 80km/h section that include
Halswell to Little River should be
restored to 100km/h.
-Tony Chandler
Vanessa
Weenink
DEBATE: State Highway 75 between Halswell and Akaroa had speed limit reductions
applied in September 2022. With the Government considering increasing speed limits on
some state highways, debate has started on whether the limits should be raised on SH75.
It’s too early in the current
election cycle to make hard and
fast judgments about some of
the new MPs in our coalition
Government. However, Vanessa
Weenink and her “new” conclusion
she would make a submission
against raising the SH75
speed limit, as a general rule, has
somewhat blighted my views of
this newly minted National MP.
I guess what did it for me was
when I read the article,
she apparently has
based her decision on
information supplied to
her by the police rural
area commander Peter
Cooper. However the
article goes on to state an
unnamed police spokesperson
had pointed out
the figures given by the
commander to Vanessa
were very brief, anecdotal numbers
and not official statistics.
It would also appear just a
very limited piece of research by
Bay Harbour News suggests the
information supplied to Vanessa
on the relationship between
speed and crashes is simply not
a creditable basis for the MP to
propose her negative submission.
It is clear Vanessa did no homework
at all on this subject.
-W. Bruce Whitfield, Sumner
In regard to the speed limit on
SH75, I feel reducing the speed
limit to 80km/h from Halswell
to Little River is actually causing
issues. Often now there are
huge queues of cars, invariably
behind a slow car in front. This
often results in frustration
from those further back and
aggressive drivers undertaking
dangerous overtaking
manoeuvres and putting
innocent drivers at risk. If we
return to 100km/h the faster
cars can overtake and reduce
the queues. Sixty kilometres per
hour is all that is possible on the
road between Little River and
Akaroa.
-Judith Young
I think the speed limit
from Halswell to Akaroa should
be increased back to 100km/h.
As far as I am concerned,
there should be no decreased
speed limits anywhere.
According to your article,
there has been only one less
serious accident on the road in
question since the speed limit
was lowered, which statistically
makes very little difference –
certainly not enough to justify
the inconvenience of everyone
having to drive infuriatingly
slowly for long distances.
-Michael J. Brathwaite
Some sections of SH75 should
be returned to the previous
100km/h posted speed limit, because
drivers who obey the Road
Code know the posted limit is
the maximum and (as SH75 has
a marked centreline throughout)
they must reduce their speed so
they can stop in the length of
clear lane they can see in front of
them.
On most of SH75 this means
you never could, sensibly, or
legally, drive round the corners
at 100km/h anyway.
Reducing the limit to 80km/h,
or even 60km/h, even on the
long straight sections, because
too many idiots either don’t
know or don’t obey this blindingly
obvious rule (in which
case they should not have a driver
licence), is a mistake because
some bumblers will drive at
75km, or 55km, respectively, either
due to an inaccurate speedo,
incorrect tyre diameter, or
extreme paranoia around traffic
police and speeding tickets.
They will so infuriate
competent drivers, especially
those who know the road well
and/or use it for commuting
(and have probably done so
for decades), that the latter
will ignore the restrictions,
increasing the overall risk by
having a “two state solution”
(fast and slow traffic on the same
road).
-Bill Heffernan, Lyttelton
Thank you for your article
regarding Vanessa Weenink’s
U-turn on supporting returning
SH75 back to 100km/h.
As a professional driver I feel
betrayed, as it was the key reason
I voted the way I did in the last
election.
Speed reductions around New
Zealand have cost my business
tens of thousands of dollars of
lost productivity and staff have
left because of the extra nights
away from family they now have
to do on the same routes.
Even more disappointing is the
dishonest way it has been done,
by not releasing the data Weenink
says swayed her.
Speed is a factor in physical
injuries, but drugs and alcohol
are a bigger factor on the crashes
I have come across. It would be
more effective to ban them to
reduce the road toll, but let’s face
it people would make their own
(alcohol) and still crash.
Poor driving standards in New
Zealand licensing is a factor,
Germany has a far lower fatality
rate per person but has icy
mountainous roads.
Subaru’s smallest SUV still class-leading
Motoring with Bob Nettleton
SUBARU’S smallest SUV, the
XV, has been rebranded as the
Crosstrek and offers superior
refinement, safety and standard
equipment to its predecessor, but
retains its class-leading off-road
abilities, built around Subaru’s
legendary symmetrical AWD
system.
Helping the Crosstrek achieve
its impressive all-terrain
drivability is its class-leading
ground clearance of 220mm,
which is sufficient to comfortably
negotiate all but seriously rugged
heavy duty surfaces.
The Crosstrek may be all
new in many departments, but
its ageing normally aspirated
2.0-litre Boxer engine isn’t one
of them. It isn’t the most vibrant
of performers and is comfortably
upstaged by a bevy of newer
engines offered by its rivals.
Visually, the Crosstrek looks
the modern SUV part, with the
mandatory rugged cladding and
roof rails, with a palate of bold
colours for those serious about
standing out from the motoring
crowd.
The Crosstrek has taken a
sizeable leap in price over its
predecessor the XV which had
a sub-$40k model. Not with
this newbie though. It starts
at an ambitious $46,990 for
the e-Boxer Hybrid, while the
higher spec petrol Premium
supplied for this road test retails
for $48,990. If that isn’t enough
to make some would-be buyers
grimace, the $51,990 ask on the
Hybrid Premium most likely
will.
Performance from the 115kW
direct injection 2.0-litre petrol
motor won’t set the pulse racing,
but does a passable job. Whether
that’s enough given its premium
pricing, only time will tell. The
latest version of this engine has
undergone yet another round
of improvements over its more
than 15-year life. The changes
have created a noticeably quieter
and smoother power plant,
but in-gear and standing start
acceleration remains leisurely.
Once up and rolling at open
road speeds, it’s a capable
enough cruiser and rolls back the
kilometres effortlessly enough
on long trips. I feel this engine
is a bit of a treading water effort.
You have to think a new motor
must be on the horizon to keep
the Crosstrek’s performance
competitive, in a market where
buyer expectations are increasing
almost as quickly as the number
of modern sophistication
engines on offer in the compact
SUV class.
One of the best things about
Crosstrek petrol-only models is
an enhanced version of Subaru’s
Lineartronic Transmission.
More than 80 per cent of
its components have been
upgraded.
SI-Drive and Auto Step Shift
Control are retained to provide a
more interactive driving option.
At low throttle openings the
gear change regime is infinitely
variable like a conventional
Subaru Lineartronic
Transmission. However, at
higher throttle openings it
automatically adopts an eightspeed
step control, with a more
conventional sound and feel
around acceleration as engine
speed changes. The stepless
gearbox does a good job of both
harnessing and making best use
of the engine’s modest power and
torque outputs.
The Crosstrek features a
wide, flat load floor with a
maximum opening width of
1042mm, enabling easier cargo.
A fold down rear seat splits
60/40, providing a wider range
of seating and load carrying
configurations.
Size-wise, this model is
marginally larger than before,
but is far from best in class
with limited rear seat head and
legroom, for those of above
average height.
Many potential buyers will
be tempted to throw their new
car cash behind the Crosstrek
when they check out the updated
technology. Leading the way
is a larger 11.6-inch portrait
infotainment touchscreen with
improved graphics, wireless
smartphone integration and
voice command functionality.
In a first for Subaru, a
360 degree panoramic view
monitor has also been added to
improve camera and monitor
performance. Two additional
USB ports are provided for
rear seat passengers and can be
found on the back of the centre
console. In another Subaru first,
a wireless Qi charger is offered.
This supports charging of
smartphones and other devices
that are compatible for wireless
Qi charging standards by simply
placing your device in the centre
tray. 10W rapid charging is
supported for a faster charging
rate when using Apple CarPlay
and Android Auto.
Heading up a strong list of
safety features is the latest take
on Subaru’s EyeSight technology,
now standard on all Crosstreks.
This improved system
uses high-resolution stereo
cameras, as well as a wide-angle
monocular camera, recognising
potential dangers and obstacles
ahead and warns the driver
to act, or even automatically
intervene.
Depending on general
visibility, the stereo cameras
can see up to 130m ahead of the
vehicle. All models are equipped
with Vehicle Dynamics Control,
with eight different stability
and braking technologies, all
designed to aid vehicle control in
unexpected driving conditions.
Front and rear springs and
dampers have been retuned for
improved comfort and driving
stability under hard cornering.
A proven formula for decades,
Subaru’s legendary Symmetrical
All-Wheel Drive resolutely
plants the vehicle on the road
providing a safer, more engaging,
Overall points out of
10: 6.5
and balanced driving experience
across a greater variety of
surfaces. Giving Subaru’s
Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive
system an important point of
difference is that it drives all the
wheels, all the time, and there
is never a time when all four
wheels are not being driven to
some degree.
The Crosstrek retains its
class-leading ground clearance,
ensuring sufficient daylight
between the vehicle’s underbelly
and ground below, to safely
negotiate deep ruts and other
confronting surfaces. Despite
such a generous measure of
ground clearance, body roll is
kept neatly in check during brisk
cornering.
The steering is well weighted
and provides plenty of road
feel. Most importantly though,
it convincingly delivers a sense
that as the driver you are in
command, and the steering is
your obedient servant, devoted
to give you the best driving
experience it can.
If you haven’t
already, plant
your spring
bulbs now!
2
Harvest the last
of your herbs in your
garden. Dry or freeze
them so that you have herbs
over Winter. Freezing herbs
in ice cubes mixed with
olive oil is a good way to
preserve your herbs
ready to use.
3
Prepare your
garden beds
for your garlic by
adding some
fertilizer.
4
Now is a good
time to fertilize
your citrus. It is also
important to set up
some frost protection
for your citrus and any
