Embedded in the treescape, a 

contemporary home is built against 

a backdrop of living art.

A 

vision of harmony between architecture and nature, 

this recently constructed contemporary home is 

as striking as it is serene. The home, designed 

by Charles Rose Architects and built by Sea- 

Dar Construction, honors the site’s inherent beauty by 

maximizing its connection with the landscape. 

“The clients wanted to create something that was very 

site-specific,” says Charles Rose, Principal at Charles Rose 

Architects. The homeowners, who also owned the previous 

home on the property—an aging structure that was 

disconnected from its natural surroundings—were keen to 

start anew. 

“The intent with this project was to create a new space 

for the next generation of their family to enjoy,” explains 

Amanda Gross, Project Manager at Sea-Dar Construction. 

The project included a full tear-down of the existing 

structure, a poignant symbol of passing the torch. 

“One of the goals was to create a more dynamic 

relationship between the interior spaces and the exterior,” 

notes Rose. Designed with durability and minimal 

maintenance in mind, it features an Alaskan yellow cedar 

exterior. The choice of plank siding over traditional cedar 

shingles infuses a contemporary flair to the coastal property. 

Inside, a sweep of vast windows immerses occupants into 

the billowing canopy of trees on the south side of the 

property. The layout of the home—an intentional inversion 

of the norm—places the primary family living spaces on the 

top floor, where the tree canopy can be fully experienced. 

An open concept kitchen, living, and dining space, and 

one of two primary suites complete the upper level, 

where sculptural architecture conveys a treehouse motif. 

Stacked atop each other, the two primary suites both offer 

unobstructed forest views. 


Crafted with precision by 

Sea-Dar’s in-house team, every 

element of the deck—from 

the spacing of the posts to 

the dimensions of the wooden 

slats—was carefully curated to 

create the final result. From the 

main deck, a staircase leads 

to a rooftop deck that offers 

a vantage point toward the 

ocean in the distance. Outdoor

This floorplan was also a strategic 

move to optimize energy efficiency. In 

summer, the foliage shades the house, 

reducing glare and solar heat gain, 

while in winter, the bare branches 

allow ample sunlight. 

“The windows were one of the big 

parts of this project,” Gross remarks, 

noting the windows were largely 

sourced from Sierra Pacific and 

Loewen. “We put a lot of time into 

making sure we got those right.” 

To best make use of the site, 

the exterior entry sequence was 

carefully designed. A central openair 

passageway guides visitors to 

enter the home on the forested 

southern side of the house, avoiding 

a neighboring parking lot on the 

northern edge. 

“There is a sense that this home will 

eventually recede into the landscape,” 

says Rose. “It is a very muted, stoic, 

quiet building.” Thoughtfully designed 

to create an intimate, ethereal 

connection with the immediate 

landscape, the home transcends the 

ordinary to allow nature’s embrace to 

be felt at every turn. 

The exterior staircase features metal work installed by Paradis MetalWorks. “The design 

of the support post along with the visual angles and dark color of the staircase make this 

a unique feature of the project,” says Rene Paradis, principal of Paradis MetalWorks. “It 

catches your attention right away.”

and restored for modern summer living.

Though updated to serve as a modern New England summer home, 

this oceanfront property maintains its 19th century integrity. Initially 

planned as a comprehensive interior remodeling, regulatory hurdles 

guided Jimmy Bowes, President of Bayside Building, in a different 

direction. Plans for a breezeway, pool, patio, and three-car garage 

required that the build team lift and reposition 

the home. Though no easy feat, the result is 

a dreamy ocean-front retreat complete with 

contemporary updates and preserved details. 

Historic architectural details were a source of 

inspiration for the whole team, which includes 

Bowes, interior designer Jocelyn Chiappone 

of Digs Design, and architect Jim Golden of 

James Phillip Golden Architects. “We kept 

the entire structure intact,” says Bowes. “For 

the most part, the house was still structurally 

bullet-proof, so we kept approximately 80% of 

the framing.” 

An original three-story staircase, diamond 

fretwork windows, chimney, and flooring are 

among other structural elements that were 

preserved. “Original elements were preserved 

to serve as a tactile reminder of the generations 

of people who have enjoyed the home,” 

says Golden. “The clients loved the idea of being 

stewards of this historic home and having it 

meet their needs moving forward.” 

Added features include a three-car garage 

fitted with guest quarters above, plus a full 

height basement with contemporary amenities 

such as a golf simulator room, media room, 

and bar. Accessible from the basement is a 

brand new pool area and lounge with a full 

bath, laundry room, and changing rooms. 

“Even with the addition of the breezeway 

and garage, we maintained consistency by 

utilizing identical window sizes and preserving 

the diamond grill patterns,” Bowes recalls. “If 

anything, our efforts brought the house back 

to what it was more than changing it.” 

In the main home, four floors of living space 

were designed to reflect a quintessential coastal 

New England flair, with surrounding ocean 

views providing plenty of inspiration. “There’s 

almost no room in that house that does not 

have a view of the ocean,” says Golden. 

The client’s desire for a clean, beachy, and 

casual aesthetic inspired Chiappone to

incorporate a classic blue and white scheme, but with 

a creative twist. “Their main residence in Southern 

California is what the client calls an ‘all beige house’ 

so they were excited to have more fun in this summer 

house,” says Chiappone. With a combination of aqua 

blues, royal blues, and pale blues, the classic palette is 

refreshed and invigorated with personality. 

The interiors also represent a seamless merge of old 

and new. The design includes white enamel and oil 

rubbed bronze handles, detailing inspired by the 

original doors, and millwork that adds to the sense 

of place. “The builder and I were mindful to preserve 

and expand on historic elements from the original 

architecture to ensure that we were in keeping with the 

integrity of the home,” says Chiappone. 

With modern living in mind, Chiappone curated elements 

that would fit the active family’s fun and casual 

summer lifestyle. “Nothing is too precious, and the 

fabrics and rugs are designed to stand up to sand, spills 

and wet feet,” Chiappone notes. Casual silhouettes and 

colors, painted furniture, organic texture and woven elements, 

and blends of patterns, time periods, and styles 

converge to embody Chiappone’s signature ‘Dig’s Mix.’ 

Infused with details that bring summertime to life, the 

property was completed just in time for the family to 

enjoy the summer season. Mission accomplished!

Attached to a spacious balcony, the primary 

bedroom features a palette of pale blues for a soft 

and sweet look that plays on the tranquility of the 

surrounding sea. Shiplap ceilings seen throughout 

the home continue in the bedroom suite. 

Inspired by infinite ocean views and preserved historic elements, 

the design team delivered a cohesive, summer-ready home design.

A SEASIDE 

PROPERTY LEVELS 

UP IN MORE WAYS 

THAN ONE. 

Nothing says vacation mode like an immediate view of the 

sea—it’s the ultimate symbol of departure. Though the 

sounds of seagulls and the scent of salty air were cues of a 

seaside locale, this Cape Cod beach house was obscured 

by its own limitations: a nondescript entry, obstructed views 

and untapped potential on all three floors. 

To solve those issues and infuse the home with their own 

essence, the homeowners called on ARCHWRIGHT Fine 

Home Builders, Catalyst Architecture and Interiors, and 

Mrs. Paranjape Design + Interiors to perform an extensive 

renovation, carried out in two phases. Though phase one 

revitalized second floor bedrooms and covered muchneeded 

repairs, phase two served as a driving force in 

unlocking the property’s full potential. 

“From an architectural standpoint, the central part of the 

design was the approach and arrival into the house,” says 

Todd Carson, Co-Vice President and Architect at Catalyst, 

noting that the original entry was crowded by an obstructive 

staircase and adjoining wall. “The homeowners were willing 

to do whatever it took to move that stair.” 

Though no easy feat, the strategic maneuver created a 

sense of openness and connectivity, allowing natural light 

and ocean views to permeate throughout the space. “That 

stair was really a collaborative effort, and it was magnificent 

to see everybody work together to make it come to life,” 

shares Galen Farrar, Project Manager at ARCHWRIGHT. “It 

connects the home from top to bottom, both visually and 

physically.” 

Just beyond the stair, an open concept kitchen, dining, and 

living space was also designed to highlight the views, with 

the addition of large windows and sliding doors. “It’s not 

your typical great room,” says Kurt, Co-Vice President and 

Architect at Catalyst. “We think it’s more interesting.” 

With continuity and functionality in mind, Lori Paranjape 

designed the interiors to embrace the home’s newfound 

sense of space. “We didn’t want stark beginnings and 

endings. We wanted it to feel like a through and through 

experience,” says Paranjape.

mid-range neutrals mingle with sleek, versatile furnishings

The striking stair design connects all three levels of the home while also creating 

a sense of transparency, with glimpses of the water visible from every vantage 

point. It features grain-matched oak treads, transparent glass guardrails with 

seamless turns, and a smooth, radius-edge handrail. Provided by Blu’s Shower 

Door, the glass panels were positioned by the ARCHWRIGHT team to conceal 

hardware, which affords a sleek look.

had to consider how the family would be using the space, 

and design it in a way that would allow them to live really 

beautifully,” emphasizes Paranjape. 

The kitchen, with a separate workspace and spacious 

pantry, features open shelving, a servery window, and a 

stunning Naica Quartzite backsplash sourced by Ricciardi 

Marble & Granite. “The subtle Gold Veins and cream color 

tones of the Naica Quartzite brought together a wonderful 

kitchen design,” says company the team at Ricciardi Marble 

& Granite. “Being precise and detailed is always our main 

goal.” The glistening stone also carries into the counter 

tops and hood. “To execute the kitchen hood, we needed 

to be very precise with the dimensions to make it happen,” 

notes Brian Lafauce, Owner/President of ARCHWRIGHT. 

“The design selections were very fun to work with, and even 

more fun to see finished.” 

Though the extensive undertaking required foresight, 

collaboration, and immaculate planning, the striking result 

speaks to the team’s stellar synergy. As Paranjape reflects, 

“It was one of those wonderful experiences where the right 

players were on the team.”

“The design team chose timeless, contemporary pieces from Kallista for 

the kitchen in this home. The Juxtapose pot filler in matte black is the 

perfect complement to the full slab backsplash wall and hood. It makes 

a subtle statement and truly earns its name in this space,” says Patti 

Jones, VP of Retail Sales at Snow + Jones. “The minimalist design of 

the ONE kitchen faucet adds architectural interest without taking away 

from the wall of windows. Pairing this faucet with the oversized Multiere 

workstation kitchen sink makes this space extremely functional.”

On a coveted stretch of land in Chatham, where the 

historic Old Village meets the ocean, sits a dreamy beach 

house overlooking the dunescape and ocean beyond. 

The newly built home replaces a weathering, out-ofplace 

tear down that failed to capture the essence of its 

spectacular location. 

When the property came up for sale, Aaron Polhemus, 

Owner and CEO of integrated architecture and construction 

firm Polhemus Savery DaSilva (PSD), saw its undeniable 

potential. 

“We felt that the site was really underutilized with the structure 

that was previously there. It didn’t take full advantage 

of the views,” says Polhemus, who was undeterred by environmental 

challenges inherent to the duneside location. 

“I knew we could create something really special.” For the 

new homeowners, it was love at first sight. 

The custom design/build is a modern retreat in a classic 

setting, where the front facade embraces the old charm of 

the surrounding neighborhood with classic shutters, cedar 

shingles, and a white picket fence. “The design concept is 

an updated version of a traditional summer cottage, one 

that would fit in well within the architectural context of the 

community,” says Sharon DaSilva, Senior Designer at PSD. 

On the dune-facing rear side, where the home is 

intentionally elevated above the flood zone, the home 

edges toward contemporary, with panoramic ocean views 

that unfold beyond expansive windows and oversized 

sliding glass panels. The interior selections, courtesy of 

Carolyn Thayer Interiors, further enhance the home’s sense 

of place, with hues of sand and sea. 

“All of the colors were selected to work in concert with the 

surroundings,” says Thayer. Anchored by light-toned oak 


flooring reminiscent of sun-kissed sands, Thayer’s design 

features a neutral color palette with natural fibers, and 

carefully curated furnishings that speak to a beachside 

retreat. Balancing contemporary aesthetics with timeless 

comfort, the interior selections were one of the many 

draws for the new homeowners, who kept all of Thayer’s 

selections as is. 

Echoing the quiet simplicity of the interiors, the landscape 

design takes a minimalist approach, where the use of 

native plantings pay homage to the site’s natural wonders. 

“The house appears to be in the dune itself,” says Rob 

Calderaro, Senior Landscape Architect at PSD. “Just seeing 

what was already there, it’s hard to ignore.” 

A gem nestled by the dunes, the home epitomizes a 

quintessential Cape Cod getaway, where pristine natural 

beauty is highlighted by intentional simplicity. “The view 

is the star of the show, and everything was designed to 

enhance it,” Thayer affirms. Mindfully positioned and 

curated for coastal living, the home resonates with its 

surroundings like it has always been there.

Situated on land once used as the town’s 

Saltworks and beaming with rhythms of 

natural light, this property captures the 

essence of its namesake, Salt and Light. 

Graced by history and reimagined for 

modern living, the home is a seamless 

blend of new construction and historic 

renovation. 

Like many before them, the homeowners were captivated 

by the salt-tinged site, and the historic home that once 

stood there. With hopes to renovate and restore, they 

enlisted the expertise of design/build firm Architectural 

Design (AD) Inc., led by Peter Haig, Principal Architect, 

and David Bushnell, Construction Supervisor. Upon further 

investigation, structural limitations deemed much of the 

house unsalvageable, and a myriad of added elements 

weakened its historic integrity. 


“We did a lot of research into the history of the house,” 

says Haig. “We discovered that there was really only one 

portion of the house that was of historical and architectural 

significance, and that was the very oldest piece of it.” With 

permission from the Old King’s Highway Regional Historic 

District Commission, the original 1787 wing was salvaged to 

flow alongside a newly built, connected home. “We developed 

a plan with the homeowners in which the new house 

would be the main piece, and the 1787 component would 

be a guest house addition to the side of it,” says Haig. 

To make space for new construction, the build team 

carefully lifted and moved the historic wing, enclosing 

the existing old frame with new structure and taking care 

to salvage original materials wherever possible. The new 

home, with a splay view of the marshlands, was carefully 

positioned to optimize the surrounding natural beauty, 

anchored by a central octagon. “We were thrilled to be 

able to adjust the angle of the home so that it looks out 

over the marsh,” shares the homeowner. 

From the strategic placement of windows to thoughtful 

design elements that capture the play of light on the 

marsh, every aspect of the house is imbued with a sense 

of orientation and purpose, where modern amenities 

coexist with timeless charm. Inside, the light soaked open

living space features a custom kitchen flanked by formal 

and informal dining and seating areas designed with a 

mix of new furnishings and beloved antiques from the 

homeowners’ previous home. “I like a bit of whimsy in 

the decor, but I do tend toward the traditional,” says the 

homeowner, who worked alongside Helen Baker Interiors to 

marry the old with the new. “I’m just very happy with being 

surrounded by things that I love.” 

The kitchen, custom designed by Artisan Kitchens, amplifies 

the home’s natural luminance, with an array of mirrors 

that adorn the upper cabinets and discreetly conceal the 

refrigerator and pantry. “Given the amount of light that 

comes in, we intentionally selected a satin finish Taj Mahal 

stone on the countertops because it is soft, beautiful, and 

avoids glare,” says Amy Britton, owner and founder of

Brendan Crane, Vice President of Crane Appliance. “The

A brilliant fusion of then and now, the home’s historic 

charm and modern allure shine equally as bright. Against a 

backdrop of ever-changing hues of land and sea, Salt and 

Light illuminates the path forward for design endeavors 

rooted in reverence for the past and vision for the future. 

The home’s interiors feature 

a mix of new furniture and 

beloved antiques from the 

homeowners’ previous home. A 

variety of window treatments 

serve to bring the outdoors in, 

including rolling wizard screens 

and a Dutch-style front door. 

In the compact mudroom, 

also custom designed by 

Artisan Kitchens, every inch 

was maximized for efficiency, 

practicality and style; a black 

mist granite bench provides a 

practical perch for outdoor gear, 

while custom pull-out cabinetry 

caters to the family dog. 


Though much of the 

original home was deemed 

unsalvageable, the new 

design honors its historic 

roots wherever possible. 

Championing the philosophy of 

adaptive reuse, AD Architects 

salvaged the home’s original 

1787 wing and reimagined it as 

a multipurpose guest room and 

study. Original ceilings, beams, 

and wood from the floors were 

repurposed from the original 

home, and reconfigured to 

create high ceilings suited for 

modern living. A new threesided 

gas fireplace and stone 

chimney occupy the former 

chimney’s central location, 

delineating the guest room and 

office/seating area.

With a fresh canvas and a clear vision, the owners of this coastal 

property recruited their dream team to bring a new summer 

sanctuary to life. Where a lush expansive yard meets the sea to the 

east, the home stands proudly as a symbol of synergy between the 

teams at KVC Builders, Acampora Interiors, and DMC Architecture. 

On the exterior, a transitional yet timeless facade pays homage to traditional New England 

architecture while embracing contemporary sensibilities. “There’s a few contemporary 

elements to the home, but it has a more traditional New England palette of materials,” says 

Mike Collins, Owner and Principal of DMC Architecture. The exterior features classic white 

cedar shingle sidewall and painted cedar board and batten, and is crowned with a mix of 

metal and cedar roofing. “We had a great framing team, and we used really quality products,” 

says Brian Vona, Managing Partner of KVC Builders. Throughout the exterior, high quality,

Zoning constraints, though inherent 

to a waterfront property, guided the 

positioning of the home. With eastfacing 

ocean views, the home was 

perfectly situated to harness the sun’s 

journey from dawn till dusk. “It’s really 

just a perfect site,” Collins affirms. 

“The sun comes right up across the 

ocean and pours through the house, 

and sets on the opposite side through 

the dining room and screen porch.” 

From the inside, sweeping expanses 

of the ocean beyond are captured 

through generously sized windows 

in every room. “We wanted to 

capture the incredible views without 

competing with them,” shares Corinne 

Acampora, Founder and Principal 

Designer of Acampora Interiors. “The 

colors that you see inside, you see 

outside.” The interior palette of sandy 

hues, taupes, blues, grays, and greens 

echo the seaside surroundings, while 

soft, organic textures evoke the breezy 

outdoors. 

A sense of balance in the design 

captures the essence of livable, 

laid-back luxury, where elevated 

meets comfort. High-quality, durable

backsplash in the kitchenette, the space is designed as beautifully as the main home.

the porch is a popular place for the 

family to gather year-round. Bridged 

by a breezeway, the screen porch is 

intentionally distinct from the main 

structure and guest house, and affords 

an immediate view of the sea from 

the entry court. “It’s an experience 

for the family to be able to unplug 

from the house and enjoy that space,” 

notes Collins.

between the design professionals 

and homeowners alike. “There was an 

alchemy to this team, including the 

homeowners, that allowed everyone 

to bring their absolute best to the 

process,” says Acampora. The result 

of an experienced and caring team, 

the home captures the spirit of life 

well spent on the coast.

with Kelly McGuill 

A peek inside the interior designer’s 

self-designed sanctuary. 

There is no better way to understand an 

interior designer’s style than by exploring 

their home. For Kelly McGuill, owner and lead 

designer of Kelly McGuill Home, the renovation 

of her home illuminates the magic that lies 

within an unencumbered creative spirit. 

When she purchased the home in 2020, she envisioned 

it as a gathering place for their growing 

family, which includes her two adult sons 

and their wives and children. The home would 

be the McGuill family’s year-round sanctuary. 

Nestled on a quiet street overlooking the Bass 

River, the Cape Cod retreat was the perfect location—the 

house itself just needed some TLC. 

“The direction the house was originally built 

was not really taking the view into consideration,” 

she recalls. With a closed floor plan 

and simply not enough bedrooms, the home 

required extensive changes, which McGuill 

mapped out alongside Lewis Bay Builders.

From carving out an open floor plan on the main level and 

adding cozy and comfortable guest suites, to weaving 

in her favorite finishes and decor, every decision was a 

deliberate step towards creating a comfortable home that 

resonates with her soul. 

Beloved carrera marble graces countertops and 

backsplashes throughout the home. Intentionally placed 

light fixtures—including gallery lighting, Italian sconces, 

and Santa Barbara pendant lights—effortlessly elevate each 

room. In the living room, a cozy yet elevated wood burning 

fireplace anchors an array of neutral furnishings that provide 

the perfect canvas for interchangeable throws and pillows. 

“I knew everything that I wanted,” she affirms. “I got to use 

the things that I’ve always admired and loved in the design 

business.” 

White walls provide a crisp and neutral backdrop for her 

proudly displayed heirlooms and collectibles, many of 

which were gifted to her by her aunt, mother, and sisters. 

Original artwork by her sister is displayed throughout 

the home, complemented by artworks she has collected 

throughout her life. Antique pieces mingle harmoniously 

with modern furnishings, creating a timeless blend of old 

and new that speaks to her knack for mixing artisanal relics 

with contemporary pieces. 

“I love the art of having things displayed in a way that 

doesn’t get too busy,” McGuill notes. “Just really simple 

and pretty.” A lover of layering, McGuill allowed her wellhoned 

styling talents to roam free, cleverly juxtaposing objects 

that each tell a story of their own, all while maintaining 

a sense of flow, which is essential to her design ethos. 

“There’s this really great flow throughout the house, which 

is something I do with most houses,” says McGuill. “There 

is a thread that carries through every room.” 

Above all, this highly personal project represents more than 

McGuill’s design savvy. It symbolizes a newfound sense of 

creative freedom, where every detail reflects who she is as 

both designer and human being.

On the edge of Eagles Nest Bay in Duxbury, 

Massachusetts, a timeless shingle-style home was 

designed with all seasons in mind. To balance 

comfortable year-round living with a dynamic outdoor 

program, Saltonstall Architects and Mary LeBlanc 

Landscape Design worked closely to create a seamless flow 

from inside out. 

“We thought of the outdoor spaces as an extension of 

the interior spaces of the house,” says Will Saltonstall, 

owner and principal of Saltonstall Architects. “It’s a pretty 

public site. One of the challenges was to create a sense 

of privacy from the street while taking advantage of the 

immediate marshland and harbor.” With access to a 

protected tidal tributary and gorgeous views of the bay 

beyond, the naturally spectacular site required thoughtful 

spatial planning to optimize the home’s relationship with its 

surroundings. 

Throughout the property, a deliberate emphasis is placed 

on connectivity. The primary living areas, strategically 

positioned to face the water, are thoughtfully linked by a 

continuous rear porch, offering uninterrupted views of the 

surrounding landscape. “A major goal of the porch was to 

extend the living space to the outdoors,” notes CJ Wilbur, 

who served as the lead project architect. 


By the Bay 

COASTAL COMFORT MEETS DYNAMIC 

OUTDOOR LIVING IN A NEWLY BUILT FAMILY HOME. 


Upon entering the main house, an arched 

cased opening beneath the stairwell 

reveals stunning views of the water, setting 

the tone for what lies ahead. A glass 

breezeway doubles as a mudroom space, 

connecting the house to the three-car 

garage. It invites abundant southern light 

while enhancing the overall sense of scale 

and openness. 


The interiors boast clean lines and coastal elegance, with 

ample natural light accentuating the warmth of the living 

spaces. Vast sliding doors offer an easy route in and out of 

the open concept family, dining, and kitchen areas. Though 

distinct ceiling treatments give each zone its own character, 

a continuous floor finish, supplied and installed by Mac 

Davis Flooring, offers fluidity throughout the main level. 

The warm toned, rustic grade European white oak floors— 

known as Mac Davis Flooring’s highly-coveted Newport 

line—are complemented by custom-finished stair treads 

and air grilles. “Not only are these floors incredibly durable, 

but they’re also engineered for dimensional stability, 

making them an ideal choice for waterfront homes,” shares 

Keti Desmarais of Mac Davis Flooring. 

Centered around a charming turret, the first floor layout 

offers a 180-degree view of both the interiors and the 

surrounding landscape, creating a harmonious relationship 

between the two. A pergola structure in the back gracefully 

extends into the outdoor living space, while second-floor 

balconies offer intimate retreats with panoramic views. 

“The essence of the project is the great location,” says Mary 

LeBlanc, owner of Mary LeBlanc Landscape Design. “We all 

did whatever we could not to interfere with those beautiful 

views, and to enhance the natural environment.” For the 

softscape, a vision for year-round living played a major role 

in LeBlanc’s strategic selection of structural and ornamental 

plantings, with vibrant hues unfolding in every season. 


To optimize beautiful coastal views from the pool and spa built and installed by Viola Associates, the bluestone deck was raised, and 

retaining walls were set around the pool perimeter. A handsome stone veneer wraps the pool, and echoes the stone on the outdoor kitchen.

In navigating the undulating topography and conservation 

requirements, LeBlanc worked closely with the architects 

and pool contractors at Viola Associates to refine the layout 

of the dynamic outdoor activity hub, which includes the 

pool house, pool, spa, fire pit, outdoor kitchen and dining 

terrace. With environmental care in mind, the amenity 

space sits on a raised bluestone decking with a silt fence 

barrier built for erosion control. 

“We wanted the pool house to speak to the main 

residence, but we also wanted it to have its own identity,” 

Wilbur emphasizes. With its swooping roof and shingle 

bracket details, the pool house serves as a distinctive 

landmark on the bay. The outdoor retreat is the ultimate 

entertainment space, ideal for both large and intimate 

gatherings. “This was a great collaboration with all the 

players from early on,” Saltonstall reflects. “And that, as 

always, leads to a great project.”
