Golling Castle Museum was founded in 1969 by Erich Urbanek

as a small local museum. Today, it boasts extensive collections,

in some cases with objects of international significance, and is

one of the most acclaimed regional museums in the province

of Salzburg, embracing a wide spectrum of themes.

The museum presents various special and permanent exhibitions,

casting a spotlight on the natural and cultural history of

the valley and mountain regions along the River Salzach.

Highlights of the Museum:

• A fossil exhibition highlighted by a world-renowned find of

marine reptile Omphalosaurus wolfi

• The second-largest collection of pocket watches in Austria

from the estate of Princess Anna-Marie zu Ysenburg und

Büdingen, as well as an impressive oil painting of Golling

Waterfall by Eduard Gehbe.

• Regularly rotating special exhibitions

The Kunstraum has existed at Golling Castle since the summer

of 2018. The newly designed rooms on the 2nd floor offer

art lovers a unique opportunity for vernissages and painting

courses. With an area of about 100 m², divided into 4 rooms,

the setting is perfect for your event.

With rotating exhibitions throughout the year and especially

during the summer months of festival season, artworks by renowned

artists are presented in the rooms of the Kunstraum.

The likes of Juergen Norbert Fux, Peter Lohmeyer, Alexander

Steinwendtner, and photographic artist Oskar Anrather have

already been showcased in the Kunstraum at Golling Castle.

Often, the pieces shown in the exhibitions can also be seen in

the Burgsaal.
