The city of Salzburg is located on one of the most important
historical trade routes – the River Salzach – and looks back
on a fascinating history. The historic district is framed by the
Mönchsberg, on top of which towers Hohensalzburg Fortress,
and the Kapuzinerberg, where the ancient monastery of the
Capuchin monks looks down on the city below.

SALZBURG FESTIVAL
Over the past 75 years, the Salzburg Festival has evolved into

more. Our tip: During Festival season, films of Festival performances
from prior years are shown daily on a big screen at
Kapitelplatz square. Admission is free!
HOHENSALZBURG FORTRESS
Hohensalzburg Fortress sits on top of the Festungsberg, towering
high above the rooftops of the Baroque historic district.
The largest fully preserved castle in Central Europe is very
much the emblem of Salzburg, offering a 360-degree view of
