Judith Rochelle Award Recipient 2024:
Tara O'Connor '16
By Major James Mallo '12
"What a great night celebrating Leadership Pasco’s 'Class
of 2024 - say no more!' Welcome to the LP alumni family.
Hard to believe I graduated LP in 2016 - 'East to West - 16
is best.' I’m still processing the incredible honor awarded to
me this evening - the Judith Rochelle Excellence in Leadership
award - I am truly grateful and blessed to be part of an
amazing group of individuals who’ve received this award.
Thank you all!" - Tara O'Connor '16
In 2001 the Judith Rochelle award was established by the Board of
Directors of Leadership Pasco. The award was named after Judith
Rochelle who was very instrumental in the early days of Leadership
Pasco to put Leadership Pasco on the map. Judith who writes books
was herself very involved in making our community strong and
cohesive.
Captain James Mallo '12 and Tara O'Connor '16
This year’s Judith Rochelle winner is never shy to voice her
opinion, though not in a bad way. When she talks, people
listen. Her strategic nature, intelligent approach to problem
solving and quick wit, always provide sound advice and levity
to even the most difficult situations. As part of the Leadership
Pasco board for almost 10 years, she has served in multiple
capacities including Past President, Education Day Program
Leader and a member of the Social Media, Sponsorship,
Alumni and Youth Leadership Committees.
Her support to Leadership Pasco, both through the board
and as an alumni has strengthened the program and taken it
to new heights. Her community service extends well beyond
LP through Rotary and her other charitable efforts. She was
awarded Seven Springs’ Rotarian of the Year in 2011 and 2021
and last year awarded their prestigious Scarano award and
she continues to make an impact through the Rotary Club
of WP Sunset. Leadership Pasco is proud to add the Judith
Rochelle Award to the list of accolades that celebrate Tara
O’Connor.
The Judith Rochelle award shall be made to an alumni member of
Leadership Pasco who has demonstrated during their participation
in the organization a commitment to making Leadership Pasco a
success. Criteria to be considered include attendance at board meetings
and/or events, participation in Leadership Pasco fundraising or
charitable events, a commitment to promote the ideals of Leadership
Pasco in the community, committing time of 5 years or more.
6 SUMMER 2024 NEWSLETTER

Kurt Conover '92 Presented with Harold
Sample Lifetime Achievement Award
By Brendan Gorman '18
Kurt exemplifies the meaning of Leadership Pasco, and without
this individual, I am sure Leadership Pasco would not be the successful
organization it has become.
Kurt Conover is a Leadership Pasco class of 1992 graduate, was
the 2005 Judith Rochelle Award recipient, worked side by side
with Harold Sample as Co-Chair of Bus Tour Day, and was Co-
Chair of Healthcare Day.
Kurt is someone who has the heart and passion to help others
and continues to give day after day without merit or recognition.
It was my distinct honor to have presented Kurt Conover with the
Leadership Pasco Harold Sample Lifetime Achievement Award.
Angel Cook '18, Kurt Conover '92, and Stefanie Pontlitz '13
The Harold Sample Lifetime Achievement Award was named in
honor of Harold Sample to recognize individuals like Harold who
have dedicated their time to promote the ideals of Leadership
Pasco. This award has only been presented twice, with the third
honor being bestowed on Kurt Conover '92 during the Class of
2024 Graduation Banquet.
Kurt was a Leadership Pasco Board member for nine years, and
earnined Director Emeritus status. He was Board President and
serves on the Past President's Council.
In his leadership role he obtained financial support and sponsorships
during some financially difficult years for Leadership Pasco.
After completing his board service, Kurt continued to and
continues to participate in Board meetings, Alumni events, Class
Orientations, Class Graduations, and Youth Leadership days.
Kurt Conover continually recognizes new board members and
class members, encouraging and supporting them in their roles to
become Leadership Pasco’s best.
"I was very humbled to receive this acknowledgment
tonight. Leadership Pasco is an amazing program that is
developing potential leaders in our community that can
make our County, State & Nation a better place for us all.
Congratulations and thanks to all the officers, directors,
sponsors and especially award winners and our 2024
graduates." - Kurt Conover '92
Future Nominations for the
Harold Sample Lifetime Achievement Award
At any time, Leadership Pasco alumni in good standing may
nominate an individual for this award based on the criteria.
Self-nominations will not be considered. Nominations should
be communicated to the current Leadership Pasco Board
President, who may request support documentation.
After a nomination has been received, the Past Presidents'
Council will meet and review the information that qualifies
them to be nominated for this award. The Council may grant
multiple Lifetime Achievement Awards annually, but this
award is not an annual expectation.
Criminal Justice Day
The class of 2024 voted Criminal Justice Day as the Best
Craig Laporte '06, Laporte, Mulligan & Werner-Watkins,
P.A. and Major James Mallo '12, Pasco Sheriff's Office
A Message from the Class of 2024 Officers
By Christina Mitchell '24 and Connie Galietti '24
Class of 2024, “Say No More.”
We considered ending our article there but we actually do have
LOTS to share! Class of 2024 has had an amazing experience
this year. We learned so much about our community and made
some lasting friendships in the process.
Our class is so proud of the success of our fundraiser at Tampa
Bay Clays! Thank you to all the sponsors, participants and the
Alumni who attended this event. It was an incredible day shared
with leaders across our community who supported our desire to
fund worthy nonprofits in the community. Congratulations to the
St. Leo Team for taking first place in the competition! Our class
exceeded our fundraising goal, netting $35,000 which allowed
us to support 3 Pasco nonprofits:
$30,000 to Metropolitan Ministries Pasco CREATE program
$5,000 to Premier HealthCare for their New Port Richey location
$2,500 to NAMI Pasco for the Mental Health Trail in Starkey
Park
We enjoyed spending our Sweat Equity Day at Metropolitan
Ministries Pasco prepping summer camp kits for the kiddos
who live on site and painting a children’s classroom and a large
dollhouse (get your Lukas Boots!). We are grateful for their
hospitality, tour of the campus and delicious lunch from their
social enterprise, Inside the Box. Many of us also joined them
for their grand opening and ground breaking in June and look
forward to the much needed affordable housing and transitional
housing that will open late summer.
We also thank the leaders across Pasco County who taught us
new things during our Programming Days – congratulations to
Criminal Justice Day as the favorite this year! We are excited to
take what we learned and lead Pasco County into the future.
Finally, thank you to the Leadership Pasco Board for your support
this year.
Thank you,
