Resurrectional Apolytikion
When You descended unto Death, O Lord, You
who are immortal Life put Hades to death, by
the lightning of Your divinity. And when You
raised the dead from the netherworld, all the
hosts of heaven sang aloud to You, “O Christ
God, Giver of life, glory to You!”
Apolytikion of St. Catherine
Let us praise the most auspicious bride of
Christ, the divine Katherine, protectress of
Sinai, our aid and our help. For, she brilliantly
silenced the eloquence of the impious
by the sword of the spirit, and now,
crowned as a martyr, she asks great mercy
for all.
Apolytikion of the Church
Ιn giving birth, you did preserve your virginity;
in your dormition you did not forsake
the world O Theotokos. You were
translated onto life, since you were the
Mother of life; And by your intercessions do
you redeem our souls from death.
Kontakion
OProtection of Christians that never falls,
intercession with the Creator that never
fails, we sinners beg you, do not ignore the
voices of our prayers. O good Lady, we implore
you, quickly come unto our aid, when
we cry out to you with faith. Hurry to intercession,
and hasten to supplication, O Theotokos
who protect now and ever those who
honor you.

Ὅτε κατῆλθες πρὸς τὸν θάνατον, ἡ ζωὴ ἡ
ἀθάνατος, τότε τὸν ᾅδην ἐνέκρωσας, τῇ
ἀστραπῇ τῆς θεότητος· ὅτε δὲ καὶ τοὺς
τεθνεῶτας, ἐκ τῶν καταχθονίων ἀνέστησας,
πᾶσαι αἱ δυνάμεις τῶν ἐπουρανίων

Προστασία τῶν Χριστιανῶν

δεήσεων φωνάς, ἀλλὰ πρόφθασον, ὡς
ἀγαθή, εἰς τὴν βοήθειαν ἡμῶν, τῶν πιστῶς
κραυγαζόντων σοι· Τάχυνον εἰς

EPISTLE READING
TITUS (3:8-15)
Titus, my son, the saying is sure. I desire
you to insist on these things, so
that those who have believed in God
may be careful to apply themselves to
good deeds; these are excellent and
profitable to men. But avoid stupid
controversies, genealogies, dissensions,
and quarrels over the law, for
they are unprofitable and futile. As for
a man who is factious, after admonishing
him once or twice, have nothing
more to do with him, knowing that
such a person is perverted and sinful;
he is self-condemned.
When I send Artemas or Tychicos to
you, do your best to come to me at
Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend
the winter there. Do your best to speed
Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their
way; see that they lack nothing. And
let our people learn to apply themselves
to good deeds, so as to help cases
of urgent need, and not to be unfruitful.
All who are with me send greeting to
you. Greet those who love us in the
faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.
ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΙΚΗ ΠΕΡΙΚΟΠΗ
ΠΡΟΣ ΤΙΤΟΝ (3:8-15)
Τέκνον Τίτε, πιστὸς ὁ λόγος, καὶ περὶ
τούτων βούλομαί σε διαβεβαιοῦσθαι,
ἵνα φροντίζωσιν καλῶν ἔργων
προΐστασθαι οἱ πεπιστευκότες θεῷ.
ταῦτά ἐστιν καλὰ καὶ ὠφέλιμα τοῖς
ἀνθρώποις · μωρὰς δὲ ζητήσεις καὶ
γενεαλογίας καὶ ἔριν καὶ μάχας
νομικὰς περιΐστασο, εἰσὶν γὰρ
ἀνωφελεῖς καὶ μάταιοι. αιῥετικὸν
ἄνθρωπον μετὰ μίαν καὶ δευτέραν
νουθεσίαν παραιτοῦ, εἰδὼς ὅτι
ἐξέστραπται ὁ τοιοῦτος καὶ ἁμαρτάνει,
ὢν αὐτοκατάκριτος. Ὅταν πέμψω
Ἀρτεμᾶν πρὸς σὲ ἢ Τυχικόν,
σπούδασον ἐλθεῖν πρός με εἰς
Νικόπολιν, ἐκεῖ γὰρ κέκρικα
παραχειμάσαι. Ζηνᾶν τὸν νομικὸν καὶ
Ἀπολλῶν σπουδαίως πρόπεμψον, ἵνα
μηδὲν αὐτοῖς λείπῃ. μανθανέτωσαν δὲ
καὶ οἱ ἡμέτεροι καλῶν ἔργων
προΐστασθαι εἰς τὰς ἀναγκαίας χρείας,
ἵνα μὴ ὦσιν ἄκαρποι. Ἀσπάζονταί σε
οἱ μετ ᾽ἐμοῦ πάντες. Ἄσπασαι τοὺς
φιλοῦντας ἡμᾶς ἐν πίστει. ἡ χάρις μετὰ
πάντων ὑμῶν.

GOSPEL READING
MATTHEW (5:14-19)
The Lord said to his disciples, "You are
the light of the world. A city set on a hill
cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp
and put it under a bushel, but on a stand,
and it gives light to all in the house. Let
your light so shine before men, that they
may see your good works and give glory
to your Father who is in heaven. Think not
that I have come to abolish the law and the
prophets; I have come not to abolish them
but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you,
till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota,
not a dot, will pass from the law until
all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes
one of the least of these commandments
and teaches men so, shall be called least in
the kingdom of heaven; but he who does
them and teaches them shall be called
great in the kingdom of heaven."
ΕΥΑΓΓΕΛΙΚΗ ΠΕΡΙΚΟΠΗ
ΚΑΤΑ ΜΑΤΘΑΙΟΝ (5:14-19)
Εἶπεν ὁ Κὐριος τοῖς ἑαυτοῦ
μαθηταῖς· ῾Υμεῖς ἐστε τὸ φῶς τοῦ κόσμου.
οὐ δύναται πόλις κρυβῆναι ἐπάνω ὄρους
κειμένη· οὐδὲ καίουσι λύχνον καὶ τιθέασι
αὐτὸν ὑπὸ τὸν μόδιον, ἀλλ᾿ ἐπὶ τὴν
λυχνίαν, καὶ λάμπει πᾶσι τοῖς ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ.
οὕτω λαμψάτω τὸ φῶς ὑμῶν ἔμπροσθεν
τῶν ἀνθρώπων, ὅπως ἴδωσιν ὑμῶν τὰ καλὰ
ἔργα καὶ δοξάσωσι τὸν πατέρα ὑμῶν τὸν ἐν
τοῖς οὐρανοῖς. Μὴ νομίσητε ὅτι ἦλθον
καταλῦσαι τὸν νόμον ἢ τοὺς προφήτας·
οὐκ ἦλθον καταλῦσαι, ἀλλὰ πληρῶσαι.
ἀμὴν γὰρ λέγω ὑμῖν, ἕως ἂν παρέλθῃ ὁ
οὐρανὸς καὶ ἡ γῆ, ἰῶτα ἓν ἢ μία κεραία οὐ
μὴ παρέλθῃ ἀπὸ τοῦ νόμου ἕως ἂν πάντα
γένηται. ὃς ἐὰν οὖν λύσῃ μίαν τῶν ἐντολῶν
τούτων τῶν ἐλαχίστων καὶ διδάξῃ οὕτω
τοὺς ἀνθρώπους, ἐλάχιστος κληθήσεται ἐν
τῇ βασιλείᾳ τῶν οὐρανῶν· ὃς δ᾿ ἂν ποιήσῃ
καὶ διδάξῃ, οὗτος μέγας κληθήσεται ἐν τῇ
βασιλείᾳ τῶν οὐρανῶν.

The Holy Fathers
You are the light of the world.
Matt. 5 (14-19)
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
In today’s Gospel, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ compares us to
light. He says we are the light of the world. The first thing we need to remember
is that when he says light, he compares us to candlelight.
Because our light is like the light of a fire it can be spread to others,
but it can also be easily put out. These two qualities of light determine our
responsibility in the world. Our goal is to maintain our light and to spread it
to others like the single small candle that spreads light in the thick darkness
during the Paschal vigil. Like Christ, we are to overcome the darkness by
lighting the flame in the heart of one individual at a time.
The third quality of fire that I would like to bring to your attention is
that when you share your fire with others, they receive the light, and your
light does not get any less.
Our Lord says that we are the light of the world. It is up to us to enlighten
the world by a united effort or take our small candle and be snuffed
out by the rushing storms of the world. When you encounter sin, darkness,
and tragedy in the world remember what I said today. It is up to us to either
allow evil to continue the way it is or share the fire of our love with the world
and invite the Kingdom of God to dwell among men.
Love is that light and as light multiplies when you share so does
love. Share Christ’s love with others and you will be surrounded by love.

Οι σκέψεις του π. Αντωνίου για το Ευαγγέλιο της Κυριακής
Στο σημερινό Ευαγγέλιο, ο Κύριος και Σωτήρας μας Ιησούς Χριστός
μας συγκρίνει με το φως. Λέει ότι είμαστε το φως του κόσμου. Το πρώτο
πράγμα που πρέπει να θυμόμαστε είναι ότι όταν λέει φως μας συγκρίνει με
το φως των κεριών.
Επειδή το φως μας είναι σαν το φως της φωτιάς, μπορεί να διαδοθεί σε
άλλους, αλλά μπορεί επίσης να σβήσει εύκολα. Αυτές οι δύο ιδιότητες του
φωτός καθορίζουν την ευθύνη μας στον κόσμο. Στόχος μας είναι να
διατηρήσουμε το φως μας και να το εξαπλώσουμε σε άλλους σαν το
μοναδικό μικρό κερί που απλώνει φως στο πυκνό σκοτάδι κατά την
πασχαλινή αγρυπνία. Όπως ο Χριστός, πρέπει να νικήσουμε το σκοτάδι
ανάβοντας τη φλόγα στην καρδιά ενός ατόμου κάθε φορά.
Η τρίτη ιδιότητα της φωτιάς που θα ήθελα να επιστήσω την προσοχή
σας είναι ότι όταν μοιράζόμαστε τη φωτιά μας με άλλους, αυτοί λαμβάνουν
το φως αλλά το φως μας δεν γίνεται λιγότερο.
Ο Κύριός μας λέει ότι είμαστε το φως του κόσμου. Στο χέρι μας είναι
να φωτίσουμε τον κόσμο με μια ενιαία προσπάθεια ή να αφήσουμε το μικρό
μας κερί και να μας σβήσουν οι ορμητικές καταιγίδες του κόσμου. Όταν
συναντάτε μια αμαρτία, το σκοτάδι και μία τραγωδία στον κόσμο, θυμηθείτε
τι σας είπα σήμερα. Εναπόκειται σε εμάς, είτε να επιτρέψουμε στο κακό να
συνεχίσει όπως είναι, είτε να μοιραστούμε τη φωτιά της αγάπης μας με τον
κόσμο και να προσκαλέσουμε τη Βασιλεία του Θεού να κατοικήσει ανάμεσα
στους ανθρώπους.
Η αγάπη είναι το φως, και καθώς το φως πολλαπλασιάζεται όταν το
μοιράζόμαστε, το ίδιο συμβαίνει και με την αγάπη. Μοιραστείτε την αγάπη
του Χριστού με άλλους και θα περιτριγυριστείτε από αγάπη.
