It is a privilege to be able to chair this event that brings
together a very special industry, the Australian opal industry,
once a year on the Gold Coast.
Australian opal is one of world’s most prestigious gemstones
and we are a very lucky country to produce this incredible
stone. Many elements come together to bring Australian
opal to the world stage – the aptitude and perseverance
of miners, the skill and creativity of the cutters, jewellers
and manufacturers and the eye and acumen of the gem
wholesalers and retailers.
All these elements are here together at the Australian Opal
Exhibition and it is a pleasure to welcome you all and trust you
enjoy your time together as you have over the many years.

Maxine O’Brien.
