we’re still in better shape than our
LE MARS — With the 4th of July
holiday fast approaching, people have
been buying fireworks in anticipation
of having their own display.
The vendor tents are located at several
places in Le Mars.
While the state of Iowa allows the
sale of consumer fireworks from June
1 through July 8, the city of Le Mars
has limits on when and where those
fireworks can be discharged.
According to the Le Mars City Code
of Ordinances, the discharging of fireworks
may occur in July from July 3
through July 5, from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.
each day.
AKRON — Akron is no stranger to
flooding, but each time it occurs volunteers
come out of the woodwork to help.
The Big Sioux River crested at 27.34
feet on Saturday, June 22. Volunteers led
by the Akron Fire and Rescue department
started sandbagging last Friday
in preparation for the water to start
rising. Within a day the first expected
crest rose from 22 fee to 24.3 feet
before ending at 27.34.
Water went up Reed Street and
affected many businesses. The Broken
Kettle Wine Cellars at 130 Reed Street
had water inside the business from the
front door to back door.
Owner Tony Heisterkamp said it
took three days to clean and sanitize
the winery.
But there is an exception.
