Eco Credentials 

Bluesign Pioneers 

Berghaus were the first British brand to join the 

bluesign system. If a product contains more 

than 90% bluesign approved fabrics it will 

achieve the MADEKIND label. 

Recycled Materials 

Berghaus have been using recycled materials 

in their products since the 70’s when their new 

Yeti gaiter, which incorporated old tractor inner 

tubes and set a new standard in foot protection. 

Performance gear that’s kinder to the planet. 

Products marked with the MADEKIND label 

are eco-friendly and could contain recycled 

material, organic cotton, bio-based material 

from natural sources, or because they’re made 

by one of the brand’s sustainable partners. 

The Good Wood Project 

Berghaus plant two million trees every year 

across Madagascar and Kenya - just one of their 

many efforts to reach Net Zero by 2030.

TNF aims to use 100% responsibly sourced 

fabrics by 2025. They are reducing the amount 

of recycled plastic in polyester fabric, as well as 

helping to reduce dependence on fossil fuels 

by reusing those materials already in existence. 

Responsible Down Standard 

In 2014, they launched the Responsible Down 

Standard (RDS) in partnership with Textile Exchange, 

a global non-profit dedicated to sustainability in 

the apparel and textile industry, and Control Union 

Certifications. 

Responsible Wool 

More than 80% of wool TNF used in FY2020 

was responsibly sourced, coming from either 

recycled or certified (including ZQ or RWS) 

sources. This figure is increasing year on year. 

Packaging & Materials 

TNF aims to eliminate single-use plastic 

packaging by 2025 and only use recycled 

content for all their paper materials, like 

hangtags and cardboard shipping boxes. 

Green Buildings 

TNF uses Green buildings to enable control of 

heating, air conditioning and lighting, along 

with access to green space and other key 

features. They have committed to utilising 100% 

renewable energy across their facilities by 2025. 

Conservation Projects 

TNF co-founds The Outdoor Industry 

Conservation Alliance with REI, Patagonia 

and Kelty. The group distributes its collective 

annual membership dues to grassroots 

organisations working to protect North

Scale Circularity

to help combat waste and extend the life of

Montane believes that committing to quality 

materials from reputable mills allows products 

to be as durable as possible, extending their 

lifespan and lowering their environmental 

impact by shedding fewer microfibres. 


In 2015, Montane became the first brand to 

implement the Responsible Down Standard. 

The entire supply chain is inspected by 

independent, certification bodies annually 

to guarantee traceability and compliance. 

PFC’s 

Montane’s long-term goal is to completely 

eliminate PFCs from their supply chain and 

they are working with nominated partners 

who are trialling new chemistry and continue 

to monitor the alternatives as they emerge. 

PVC & Phthalates 

Phthalates have been linked to disrupting 

hormone levels as well as being a suspected 

carcinogen. For this reason, Montane only 

uses printing inks which are free from PVC 

and phthalates. 


All of Montane’s cotton is sourced in India 

and their organic cotton t-shirts are made in 

a factory certified to SA8000 and GOTS.

If your Montane gear gets damaged, they will 

always aim to repair items with identical, or 

similar, materials and restore them to their

Jack Wolfskin only uses RDS checked down 

suppliers. The RDS label certifies that the down 

supply is obtained strictly from animals that 

have been kept species-appropriate and not 

suffered from forced feeding. 

Green Farming 

All products are made from 100% organic 

cotton. High standards are applied to cultivation 

of organic cotton: naturally, the use of chemical 

fertilisers and pesticides, as well as genetically 

modified seeds are strictly prohibited. 

Responsible Leather 

Jack Wolfskin only uses leather that is a byproduct 

of the food production process and 

does not originate from protected animals. 

Eco Friendly Packaging 

It is not possible to completely eliminate all 

protective packaging. However, Jack Wolfksin

Their down promise means you can rest

product from them, no birds were harmed 

– this means no live-plucking; they know

Re-Wool 

Re-Wool using surplus wool to make brand 

new products. Using traditional Italian 

craftsmanship, the recycled wool is coloursorted, 

shredded then blended with other 

colours and mixed with yarn and polyester or

Chemical Guidelines 

The Fjällräven Chemical Guidelines set out the 

framework for hazardous and banned chemicals 

that can and can’t be used within their products.

In 2020 we expanded our Heli recycled 

insulation range. The Heli range uses a 

synthetic ecodown made from recycled plastic 

bottles, which are broken down into resin and 

reinvented as polyester fibres that mimic down
