New changes to
the Car Park...
This Autumn South Mill Arts will employ Parking Eye to monitor our
private car park.
The decision has been taken to manage the car park by a third party
to help ensure availability for our customers. There will be no cost
for parking in the car park, but patrons will now need to enter their
registration details at reception when they use the venue.
Failure to enter car registration details will result in a fine of £100
or £60 if paid within 14 days. Any funds from parking fines will
not be received by South Mill Arts, the venture is purely to support
existing users of the venue to utilise available parking.
“Over the years it has been brought to our attention that it can be
difficult for our customers to park and we take these concerns very
seriously. We have thought long and hard about how to help this
situation, but still keep parking free for our users. We hope by using
Parking Eye this will deter those who are using the car park, but not
the venue, freeing up spaces for our valued customers. We know our
patrons will support us in our ambition to maximise fair use of the
parking spaces available at South Mill Arts.”

seen the early careers of some of the very best musicians and bands in history
(Elton John, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder to name a few!)
The South Mill Arts Live Lounge | £8: A regular evening of live music in The
Maltings Bar from 7:30pm, where you can relax and listen to some of the best
from the local music scene.
The Acoustic Club | £7: A local community club supporting local bands and
offering first opportunities to young professionals seeking music careers.
Retune | £17: A Bishop’s Stortford based charity, offering opportunities to
young and old people alike, to share and experience live music as a creative
outlet to support mindfulness and wellbeing. Supporting the local music
scene by offering first opportunities and encouraging people of all ages and
backgrounds to share their passion for music.
The Moon Jammers | Free: An established jam night held on the last Sunday
each month. This is a jam for players and fans of blues, soul, funk – and all
musical points in between.

Oral History
Did you know the Bishop’s Stortford Museum has been running an
Oral History project since 2005?
Within this project, we invite local people to share valuable
memories of their childhood, the local town and their experiences.
Bishop’s Stortford has a rich and diverse history and it’s all down to
the people who live here.
If you would like to contribute and enhance our Oral History archive

The Bishop’s Stortford Mural
We are proud to be able to exhibit a work of art that is 8.4m long
by 1.5m wide, depicting the history of Bishop’s Stortford from the
beginning of time up until 1990. The project was sponsored by Sally
Howard-Smith, a former mayor of the town and supervised by Leila
Riddell, a founder of the Embroiderers Guild.
The Mural now stands proud on the top floor of
our ArtSpace and you can visit our fascinating
display to discover how this amazing embroidery
was created!
An informative book on how the mural was
made, and a key to what is featured, is available
from the museum. Scan the QR Code to view
detailed images of the mural and to learn more!

A big thank you to all who support the Museum and are willing to
donate the objects that ultimately form our collection.
Our Young Curators Project
Our Young Curator education and
volunteer programme introduces local
students to the world of museums.
Over induction sessions the group gain
experience in accessioning, recording
and storing artefacts. They discuss
the role of museums and curators and
explore how to exhibit and share objects
in engaging ways. Going forward, many
volunteer with us and increase their
knowledge through trips and workshops.
Our next free, induction sessions start on
25 th September and run on a Wednesday
4pm – 5.30pm for 6 weeks.
