My journey as a female photographer has been deeply
influenced by personal experiences, notably leaving my
home country at the age of 13 to attend a historically maledominated
boarding school in the UK. This unique background
has infused my work with a nuanced perspective, allowing me
to explore not only the British Boarding School Syndrome but
also the distinctive challenges faced by young women in such
environments.
“Boarding School Syndrome-Survival Guide” is a testament
to this journey, delving into the complexities of a distinct
psychiatric illness through a captivating blend of digital and
film photography. Serving as a visual narrative, it provides
viewers with an immersive insight into the realities of
boarding school life, while illuminating the profound impact
of institutionalization on mental health and emotional wellbeing.
In essence, “Boarding School Syndrome-Survival Guide”
transcends traditional boundaries, inviting viewers to
contemplate the intricacies of identity, belonging, and

Junyi Wang
Junyi, an artist based in London, excels in art direction
and photography. Her journey began at a young age,
influenced by the experiences of boarding school
survivors. Junyi explores identity and societal
relationships, drawing from her personal encounters
with migration. Junyi’s passion for photography
captures the essence of human experience, blending
physical and digital elements, film, installations, and
still images. Her work invites viewers to contemplate the
intricacies of identity, belonging, and human connection.
