WRITING & LITERATURE | WHAT’S ON
Corners of Melbourne
Author Talk
With Robyn Annear
Join us for an immersive journey with Robyn
Annear as she unveils her latest book, "Corners
of Melbourne." What better defines a city than its
street corners? A corner gives you a starting point,
a destination and a place to turn. It’s furnished with
pillar boxes, newsstands and tram stops, and lampposts
for light and lounging. Where would you be
likeliest to find a pub? At the corner, of course. And
who better than Robyn Annear to usher you around
the corners of Melbourne, and reveal their bizarre,
baroque and mostly forgotten stories?
In this (appropriately corner-shaped) book she will
introduce you to: street-corner ‘galvanisers’ who
offered the thrill of electric shock at threepence a
time, the rude boys of the Fitzroy back streets who
became the original ‘larrikins’, infants named for the
corners on which they’d been abandoned, a rogues’
gallery of unruly women, incorrigible men and
runaway horses.
Joy Moody is Out of Time
Seed Library Edible Plants
Share seeds with your community at our Seed Library.
A seed library is where the library lends seeds instead of books.
Step 1 – “Borrow” seeds for free Step 2 – Plant and tend to your crops
Step 3 – Return some seeds from the yield
Donate seeds (fruit, vegetables or herbs only) saved from your garden
or leftover seeds from store purchased packets.
Grow your gardening knowledge at our regular, inspiring events and workshops.
The Seed Library is available at Vermont South and Warrandyte Library branches.
Visit or contact one of these branches to find out more information.
