At Vision We Are Caregivers To Vulnerable Children

ON BECOMING

OF AGE (MUKALLAF)

From the age of puberty onwards, according to Islam,

you become mukallaf. This means that you come under

the obligation to discharge all the duties and full all the

rights of an adult. To keep yourself physically clean is an

obligation, to work is an obligation, to refrain from lying

or the consumption of alcohol is an obligation, these are

no less than the obligations of maintaining honour and

chastity and performing prayer.

The concept of individual responsibility, of being

mukallaf, is a most dynamic one for individual fullment

and social harmony. All obligations, whether on you as

an individual or on the community as a whole, are

designed to encourage and promote the good and

beautiful, and to discourage and combat the bad and

reprehensible.

The values, attitudes and habits encouraged by Islam are

in conformity with the natural goodness of man. The

values and habits it condemns go against the grain of

man’s innate goodness. This you must bear in mind

whenever you consider the Islamic prescriptions for your

intellectual and physical, spiritual and moral, emotional

and psychological development.

WHAT DO

GANGSTERS DO?

Gangs control large areas, usually

communities or parts of cities and

towns. These areas are known as

“turfs”. Each gang normally has

their own turf, which they guard

with their lives from other gangs.

Here they manipulate their illicit

a c t i v i t i e s , w h i c h i n c l u d e

prostitution, drug dealing and

shebeens.

Many young girls are coerced or

forced into prostitution by gangs,

who sometimes drag them from

their homes in full view of their

helpless families. The girls who

end up being raped by many gang

members, then forced to sell their

bodies on the streets. Whatever

money they receive goes to the

gang. They either get a pittance for

their efforts, or are fed drugs to

blur their tragic reality. Getting out

is then almost impossible, as they

fear the gang may kill them or

members of their families.

Shebeen owners and some store

owners must pay protection fees to

the local gang. If not, the gang

would make it very difcult for

them, using intimidation tactics

and threats. Many of these have

been carried out, resulting in

either loss of property or death.

Despite this, many communities

have become dependent on the

illegal and sometimes dangerous

activities of gangsters. Moneylaundering

is big business for any

gang. That is why controlling and

protecting large turfs are so

important. People who may never

obtain loans elsewhere, are

afforded loans by large gangs. In

return, the gangsters get paid

“interest” on the loans they hand

o u t . O n t h e o t h e r h a n d ,

communities would not readily

expose their saviours - either out of

fear, or because they would have

nowhere to go to obtain their

monthly loans. They see the gang

as providing a much-needed

service. Most people in gangridden

communities are either

unemployed, or make so little

money, they are forced to turn to

the gangsters for help. On the

other extreme, non-payment of an

account held with gangsters could

result in tragic consequences.

Words Are Powerful, They Create Feelings; Choose And Use Them Well

REQUIREMENTS IN DRESS

The dress must cover the whole body except for the area specically exempted.

“Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their

modesty, that will make for greater purity for them, and Allah (SWA) is well

acquainted with all that they do. And say to the believing women that they

should lower their gaze and guard their modesty, that they should not display

their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof, that

they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty

except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons, of

their husbands’ sons, their brothers or their brothers’ sons, of their sisters’

sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their rights possess, or male servants

free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of

sex, and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their

hidden ornaments. And O you believers! Turn all towards Allah (SWA) that you

may attain bliss.” Quran 24: 30-31

These ayahs contain, among other things, two main injunctions. A muslim

woman should not display her beauty and adornment (zeenah) except for “that

which must ordinarily appear of it” (ma dhahara minha) or “that which is

apparent.” The word zeenah lends itself to two related meanings; natural or

bodily beauty and acquired adornment such as rings, bracelets and clothes.

The part of zeenah, exempted from the above injunction, was interpreted in

two ways. The face and the hands. This is the interpretation of the majority of

the jurists, past and present. This interpretation is conrmed by ijma

(consensus) that a muslim woman is allowed by Islam to uncover her face and

hands during pilgrimage and even during the prayers, while the rest of her

body is regarded as awrah (that which should be covered).

SUPERVISING

NEIGHBOURHOODS

So far as the built environment is concerned, the Islamic

environment will have planning standards and an

architecture:

• That is in harmony with the surroundings

• That makes for beauty yet discourages waste and

conspicuous consumption

• That makes for privacy of the home and family and

the protection of modesty

• That facilitates worship (ibaadah) and will not

detract from the remembrance of God

Geometrical designs, arches, arabesque decorations

may be considered Islamic in that they are beautiful and

do not contravene the Shari’ah. However, in themselves

they do not make Islamic architecture. A house with

beautiful geometrical designs and arches but which is

rmly sealed so that it can be cooled by noisy aircondition

units does not serve the function of an Islamic

dwelling. It is difcult in such a dwelling to hear the

athaan or the call to prayer. Such dwellings often

contribute to the slow social and spiritual death of

neighbourhood communities.

On the other hand, a traditional mashrabiyah or latticework

window is not only beautiful but serves to let in light

and the sound of the athaan. Moreover, it keeps out the

prying gaze and thus helps to maintain privacy. Such

features of a building help serve the function of Islamic

architecture. Buildings which serve no Islamic purpose

like mausoleums and statues, no matter how beautifully

they may be constructed or decorated cannot be called

Islamic. Islamic architecture is determined primarily by

function or use and not by form. The form of a building

must serve and enhance its function.

An Islamic neighbourhood will have adequate facilities

for healthy recreation.

THE WORKERS

TRUST

Work is a trust in the hands of the worker. He must do his

best and do it properly, for the Holy Prophet said, “Allah

loves to see that when a person does something, he does

it properly.” A job properly done develops condence,

increases production, business ourishes and people

become prosperous. Happiness for all is the result.

Islam has laid down laws, rights and responsibilities for

both Worker and Employer (or management). In Islam,

the relationship between a boss and worker is not that of

a master and servant. Islam expects affection,

compassion and sincerity between the two. It must be

noted that in arranging wages, any form of pressure,

whether against the worker or employer, conicts with

the principle of fair-bargaining described in the Holy

Quran. Otherwise, it is not different from exploitation by

Usury or ‘foul means’.

The following are the Responsibilities of the Employer

and as such the rights of the Worker:

1. The Employer must arrange with the worker the

salary before he starts with the work.

2. The Employer must pay the worker the full wage

agreed upon and must not take off money for any

favour done to his worker (a hadith Qudsi states that

if you do not pay the worker the agreed wage for the

work he completed, you will have Allah as your

opponent!).

3. The Employer must not let the worker wait or ask for

his salary.

4. The Employer must not demand from his worker a

task beyond his capacity, for Allah says in Surah

Baqarah, verse 286, “Allah demands not from a

soul, except what he is able to do.” The Holy Prophet

also ordered us not to burden our workers and says,

“when you give them a task, assist them.”

5. The Employer must not harass his worker and must

forgive him for his unintentional errors.

6. The Employer must act as a guardian over his worker

and enquire about his welfare and help him, for the

Holy Prophet says, “Each one of you is a shepherd

and each one is responsible for the ock under him.”

(there is greater merit in giving the worker a decent

wage than to increase one’s prot rst in order to

give charity later.)

7. Of the hired hands, the full time domestic servant

has greater rights. Unlike other workers who may be

engaged without food arrangements, the full time

domestic servant must be given the same food which

the Employer’s family eats, and must be dressed

adequately, as directed by the Holy Prophet. The

household, and children in particular, be taught to

address the Worker courteously, with kindness and

dignity.

The following responsibilities are placed on the

shoulders of the Worker, which are the Rights of the

Employer:

1. The worker must not steal time or deceive his

Employer, as the Holy Prophet said, “Whoever

deceives us is not one of us.”

2. The Worker must do the work to the best of his ability and

must carry out all the conditions he has agreed to with his

Employer.

3. The Worker must be honest and truthful and guard and

look after the property and tools of the Employer, and

must not take or use nor allow anyone else to take or use

anything that belongs to his Employer without the

Employer’s permission. Surah Anfaal, verse 27 declares

that “We must not betray nor misappropriate knowingly

things entrusted to us.”

4. The worker must not tell others or betray the secret of his

Employer’s trade nor disclose condential information of

this Employer’s business or personal affairs.

THE ROLE

OF THE FAMILY

Marriage means setting up a family and families serve as

the foundation of a nation, for the stability of a nation is

dependent on the stability of its people. A happy

community provides the environment for the new

generation to strive for progress and a brighter future.

Every family must realise that they have an important role to

play in the development of their community and country. It

is a responsibility that has been entrusted upon them by

Allah (SWA) in accordance with Allah’s purpose of creating

mankind as leaders on this earth. If members of the

community live in constant discord, there will be conicts

and the development of their children will be adversely

affected with an attendant increase in social problems.

Inevitably, a lot of resources in terms of ideas and

manpower will have to be mobilised and channelled

towards resolving such problems, necessitating to a certain

extent the diversion of attention from other more pressing

matters. For example, Sheikhs, Moulanas and Imams are

continuously occupied attempting to reconcile couples.

What happens now is that many other more important

issues facing the Ummah is neglected because of the

amount of energy and time used to assist couples. The task

of building a happy home should not be taken lightly. An

indifferent approach towards this responsibility will only

serve to put the home in jeopardy. The duty of every

individual is to develop the community and the country

where he lives and in which the people have

complementary roles to play.

“Believers are in relation to one another as (parts of) a

structure, one part of which strengthens the other.” - Hadith

SHAIYTAAN’S DOORS

TO A SOUL

Please Support The Vision Charity Shops

Before I enumerate and discuss very briey some of the

devil’s doors to a human soul, let me enlighten you on

the actual soul which is the nucleus of man’s deeds and

actions and how the open enemy, shaiytaan (satan)

wants to destroy it together with the person in whom is

entrusted the greatest gift of Allah.

The soul has two armies. One army can be seen by the

external eye and another cannot be seen except by the

internal eye and these armies which are absolutely

necessary for the upkeep of the dominion of the king i.e

the soul.

Just as attendants, servants, helpers, guards and secret

police etc. are the armies of the king which can be seen

with the external eye, so are ngers, hands toes, feet,

eyes, eye-lids, ears, nose and other outward and inward

organs are the armies of the soul. The soul being the king

of the body, the different organs are the servants to carry

out its orders and commands. Therefore, the hands, feet,

eyes, ears, tongue and other outward and inward organs

are created to obey the soul.

For example, when the soul orders the eyes to open, they

open. When it orders the feet to walk, they walk. When it

orders the hands to hold, they hold. The powers of sight,

hearing, smell, taste and touch work like secret

emissaries which in turn have been entrusted to the

various organs. And all these slaves and servants are

absolutely necessary for the upkeep of the kingdom of

soul. Just as lawful food and drink are important for the

body, so is knowledge necessary and extremely

important which is food for the soul. In order that soul

can acquire its food, the ingredients which are necessary

are good deeds and actions.

It is through a clean and pure soul that man can gain

nearness to Allah. And to achieve that, man must rst

cleanse the soul of all impediments comprising of evil

deeds and actions and then make efforts through

knowledge to nourish it (soul) with good deeds and

actions.

Shaytaan... I am innocent

Learn to know the enemy Allah and His Rasul (SAW) warn

us about. May Allah protect us Insha-Allah.

THE STORY Shaytaan approached a pious person and

asked him what the reason was that he is blamed for all

the evils and wrongs in the world. He pleaded that he not

be accused. He informed the pious person that he

(Shaytaan) was prepared to prove his innocence.

Accordingly he requested the pious person to accompany

him to the bazaar. Shaytaan went to the shop of a

sweetmeat seller. He took a drop of syrup and put it on the

wall. “Did I do anything wrong?” He asked the pious

person. “Nothing much”, replied the pious person. “Now

sit and watch the fun,” said Shaytaan.

A fly came and sat on the syrup. A lizard watched the fly

from a corner of the roof. “There’s my lunch.” it thought to

itself. The shopkeeper had a beautiful cat. It happened

that the cat spotted the lizard. “My, my. I have not tasted a

lizard for some time now.” it thought. A policeman came

to purchase some sweetmeat. He had his beloved dog

with him. When the dog saw the juicy fat cat, its tongue

dripped with delight.

Just then the fly decided to move. The lizard dashed

towards it. The cat sensing that its meal was slipping away

lunged at the lizard. The police dog lapped at the cat and

got hold of its leg. The cat screamed its head off. The

shopkeeper took a stick and beat the dog. The policeman

became angry and smacked the shopkeeper. The

shopkeeper cried out for help. Other shopkeepers ran

and beat up the policeman. Just before passing out, the

policeman managed to radio headquarters for help. The

riot squad arrived. Stones were flying. Guns were drawn.

The sound of bullets and gun shots rang out. People were

screaming. Women and children came running. Someone

was wounded. Others were dying. Only one was smiling.

Shaytaan! He said to the pious person: “What is my crime

of putting a little syrup on the wall compared to what you

humans are doing? look at how many orphans, how

many widows, you have produced. Look at how many

court cases, how much bitterness and how much revenge

is now going to be planned. You humans are a strange,

merciless lot. And then you have the nerve to blame me!

THE LESSON Shaytaan will take any and every

opportunity to put a ‘little syrup’ on the wall. Sometimes it

is in the form of anger, sometimes greed, sometimes

jealousy. Learn to recognise this and make dua and

Insha-Allah, we will be saved.

DEAR RESPECTED HAJI

Allah has blessed you by bringing you to Arafat,

here, most definitely, Allah is going to forgive all

your sins. However, you would become the beloved

of Allah if you would reflect on all the sins you may

have committed and that you make a firm

resolution never to go back to those sins. This is the

meaning of Tauba and this act makes us the

beloved of Allah.

May Allah guide us and every Muslim to make

sincere Tauba. (Ameen)

I HAVE A VERY

SERIOUS DRUG

PROBLEM

I DON’T USE THEM BUT

THEY STILL AFFECT ME

SOME VISION RESIDENTS WILL

NEVER BE ABLE TO GO BACK

HOME, FEARING DRUG ISSUES

SAYINGS OF THE

PROPHET MUHAMMAD (SAW)

1. The Reward of Charity - The

Prophet said, “If any believer

plants any plant and a human

being or an animal eats of it, he

will be rewarded as if he had

given that much in charity.”

2. Truthfulness - The Prophet said,

“ T r u t h f u l n e s s l e a d s t o

r i g h t e o u s n e s s , a n d

righteousness leads to Paradise.

And a man keeps on telling the

truth until he becomes a truthful

person. Falsehood leads to

wickedness and wickedness

leads to Hell Fire, and a man may

keep on telling lies till he is

written before Allah, a liar.”

3. The Reward of Serving Living

Beings - The Prophet told of how

a thirsty man got down into a

well, drank its water and then

came out. Meanwhile he saw a

dog panting and thirstily licking

mud. Seeing its plight , he went

back down into the well, lled his

shoe with water and from it gave

the dog some water. Allah

rewarded him for this deed and

forgave him. The people asked,

“O Allah’s Messenger! Is there a

r e w a r d f o r u s i n s e r v i n g

animals?” He said, “Yes, there is

a reward for serving any living

being.”

4. The Best Companion - A man

came to the Prophet and said, “O

Allah’s Messenger! Who is more

entitled to be treated with the

best companionship by me?” The

Prophet said, “Your mother.” The

man said, “Who is next?” The

Prophet said , “Your mother.” The

man further said, “Who is next?”

The Prophet said, “Your mother.”

The man asked for the fourth

time, “Who is next?” The Prophet

said, “Your father.”

5. To Look After An Orphan - The

Prophet said, “I and the person

who looks after an orphan and

provides for him, will be in

Paradise like this.” And he put his

i n d e x a n d m i d d l e n g e r s

together.

6. Treat Your Neighbours Kindly -

The Prophet said, “Gabriel

continued to recommend that I

treat neighbours kindly and

politely, so much so that I thought

he would order me to make them

my heirs.”

QUESTIONS

& ANSWERS

Q - Is it necessary to have an

intention for fasting?

A - Yes, it is necessary to formulate

the niyyat for fasting. Making the

niyyat for one fast will not be

sufcient for all. Merely having the

intention to fast, without verbal

utterance is sufcient and waking

up for suhoor, serves the same

purpose as a niyyat, because

suhoor is only eaten for the sake of

fasting.

Q - What is the nal time in which

one can formulate a niyyat?

A - One is allowed to formulate the

niyyat during any part of the

morning until just before midday,

on condition that he didn’t

consume anything until then.

Q - Is it permissible to use any form

any form of medication to prevent

menstruation?

A - Yes. By doing this although the

fast is valid and there is no

restriction in the Shariah, although

it is best that it should not be done

as it can prove to be harmful to a

woman’s health.

MY SHOCKING

EXPERIENCE

I am Vanessa Brown, a 29 year old

housewife. I reverted to Islam

when I was 18 years old. I am a

proud mom of 2 adorable boys.

For about a year I have been

suspecting my soul mate of having

an affair with one of his work

colleagues. I have observed his

actions and all other perks that

goes with it. Obviously when one is

involved with extramarital affairs,

your attitude becomes suspect. My

husband’s unusual behaviour and

temper as well as working late

many a time, have identied my

beliefs as my personal truth. It is a

feeling of me being certain about

something. All truth is relative, I

know when I believe something to

be true, then it is true. After all, one

does not believe what you see, you

see what you believe and trust your

intuition. On the surface it may

sometimes appear as arrogance,

but it really is a deeply ingrained

condence. My shocking thoughts

drove me, and Allah pointed me in

the right direction. As months go

by I have matured, I’ve discovered

that my husband has a 2 year old

son and this he conrmed. My

challenge now is to sustain those

periods of inner calm as he has an

extra mouth to feed.

Please pray for me

THE HAZARDS

OF SMOKING

Wife: Come let’s talk about the

hazards of smoking.

Husband: This subject? How boring,

you must be joking.

Wife: No man, let us discuss about its

addiction.

Husband: Shame on you, 1% fact and

99% ction.

Wife: Let us be serious now, if you

think you can!

Husband: How can I be serious if you

don’t understand.

Wife: Okay, medical science proved

how the lungs are stained and how it

affects the brain.

Husband: No matter what you say, to

me your words will just be in vain.

Wife: Don’t you see whenever you set

a cigarette alight, you are committing

a great sin which isn’t right.

Husband: Listen to me, why don’t you

just go and take a hike.

Husband: As it’s my money and I can

do with it what I like.

Wife: I know this, but I am still

concerned about your health.

Husband: You don’t have to stress

about me as I have lots of wealth

Wife: Very well, but you are doing

your body much harm, when cancer

sets in, then you feel it cause for alarm

Husband: Sorry, I know people who

never smoked, but died of cancer, so

think about it , to you, this is my

answer.

Wife: Anyhow, I hate to bring deen

into the equation, but to convince

you, needs much more than just

persuasion.

Husband: Ah! I knew you would

lecture me about the deen, I am still

okay having smoked from as young

as thirteen.

Wife: Alghamdulillah, I rest my case

and have no more to say. For you to

come to your senses, I can only pray.

HOW MY

PARENTS MET

During the past June school vacation,

I was contemplating to forward my

article to the popular Vision

Advertiser on how my beloved

parents met. But then being on a

holiday break is always a splendid

way to unwind and to put things on

hold until you forget about it.

Now is a good time as ever and I nd

joy in doing little things once again.

My mom, then only 20 years old,

arrived just before Asr salah at a

mosque in Cape Town with her

parents and siblings. This was during

the month of Ramadaan.

They were pleasantly surprised to nd

a Qiraat competition in progress

which included some international

Quarees from different ages. The

mosque was lled to capacity, the

warmth and the gift of spiritual

beauty and the bond of Islamic

brotherhood brought excitement and

delight. The Qiraat was of a very high

standard and the competition was

erce. Then after Asr salah the rst to

recite was a 22 year old from Turkey.

His voice blew those listening to him

including my mom to an amazing

array of disbelief. My mom thought

she was amongst the twinkling stars.

Subhaan-Allah, it was so beautiful,

mesmerising to the heart and soul. At

that moment, my mom knew that this

man illuminated her heart. She felt

inner peace that sent her to profound

happiness.

After the Qiraat program, they left for

home and she spoke to her parents

about her feelings of joy. She

requested that she get married to this

young Quari so that he can recite to

her on a daily basis. Her parents were

s p e e c h l e s s a n d p r o m i s e d t o

investigate more about this young

man. For days my mom could not

actually sleep because she was afraid

of losing him. Obviously mom’s dad

made the required investigation’s

and tried his level best to make his

eldest daughter happy.

Three months later the Quari’s

parents ew down from Turkey to

make nal arrangements for nikkah.

Six months went by when the couple

got married in a grand style. The pair

set up home in Cape Town and today

they have been married for seventeen

years alghamdulillah.

Shukr to Allah Almighty as I was

blown away when my mom related

this story to us.

MAAF: A SMALL

WORD TO SPELL

A BIG WORD TO USE

My name is Danial October and I

am a 17 year old. I wish to ask

maaf to my parents whom I love

dearly. They are Radia and Igshaan

October of Strand in the Cape.

Firstly, as children we must always

obey our parents, be good and

kind to them. It is a grave sin to

disobey them. Here is my story.

Weekends I work in my dad’s

butcher as well as during the

school holidays. At times I work

very hard and late at night. Then

midway during the June school

holidays I asked my parents for my

wages and they refused me point

blank, claiming that times were

tough and they will pay me later at

month end. A heated argument

erupted. I walked out of the house

to cool off and arrived back home

3 days later. They were frantic with

worry and reported me missing at

SAPS, causing them even more

heartache and sorrow. I decided to

write them a now via the Vision

Advertiser, a magazine they enjoy

reading monthly. To my beloved

parents, I nope realise that I can

never repay you for raising me, so

from the bottom of my heart I beg

you for maaf. I fervently make dua

for you that Allah in His innite

mercy grants you long and healthy

lives. So once again I ask you maaf.

SETTING UP

A FAMILY

Islam encourages its followers to marry so that all the

potentials of individual believers can be fully utilised for

the development of a good society.

“Marriage is my sunnah and those who do not like to

follow my sunnah are not of my kind.” - Hadith

Nonetheless, only those who have already prepared

themselves to shoulder the responsibility of family life

are encouraged to marry , while those who are not ready

should rst make the necessary preparations.

“He who is able to marry should marry, for it keeps the

eye cast down and keeps a man chaste.” - Hadith

Marriage bliss can be brought about if married couples

nurture love and affection between them.

RESPECT IN

MARRIAGE

VISION

Child and Youth Care Centre

Is respect something you can easily acquire

Or in someone something to admire?

When you meet someone and fall in love

He’s so perfect, sent from Heaven above.

You’re so happy, lled with bliss

But did you know, there’s more to love than this?

Respect in marriage, is not an easy thing to learn

Unlike love, it is something you have to earn.

You have to learn to agree to disagree

And sometimes just to let each other be.

My love and I share no mansion and not much gold

But our love and respect is something to behold.

We share our dreams, hopes and aspirations

And that in itself is quite a dedication.

Oh yes! We argue, ght and scold

But in the end, just each other we want to hold.

Although we’re equal, we’re not quite the same

We even share a last name.

Respect your loved one, hold him dear

With Allah’s guidance there really is nothing to fear.

With compromise, respect and a love of your own

May you too have a happy family and a happy

home,

Insha-Allah

VISION WELCOMES YOU!

BIG PROBLEMS ARE SOLVED LITTLE BY LITTLE

WORKER’S AND

EMPLOYER’S RIGHTS

AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Allah has placed in the universe

everything that His creation needs.

There is air, water, trees, fruits,

grains, greens and many minerals.

Man is expected to process these

into useful commodities, and

everyone who strives towards this

end is a useful member of society.

For this reason Islam has urged

muslims to work or take up a trade,

and has raised the position of the

worker above the non-worker. The

Holy Prophet says, “Verily, Allah

loves the believer who is a

tradesman.”

Halaal Earnings - The worker is

loved by Allah because he earns

his living by the sweat of his brow,

in ways that are considered halaal,

instead of begging. The Holy

Prophet says, “Verily, Allah loves to

see His servants tired from seeking

halaal Rizq (provisions).” Such a

person is better in the sight of Allah

than he who spends all his time in

prayers and depends on others for

his Rizq. On seeing a man sitting in

the street praying “O Allah,

p r o v i d e f o r m e ” , K h a l e e f

Sayyadina Umer struck him with a

cane and said, why should one of

you relax and not strive and ask

Allah to provide “when you know

that the heavens will not rain gold

or silver?”

Islam holds a labourer in high

esteem. When told that the black

patches on the palms of a

labourer-companion were due to

digging the earth, the Prophet

(SAW) clasped those hands and

kissed it lovingly.

At Vision We Have Compassion For The People Who Speak Bad Of Us

EVERY TRANGRESSION

IS A MAJOR SIN

DEFINITION: Simply stated, sin is disobedience

to all forms of divine injunctions

O Allah! Help us to recognise Your greatness and guide us towards Your

obedience and pleasure and not towards seeking the pleasure of Your

creation!

To participate - or to allow one’s children and family members to participate -

in the religious functions of non-muslim neighbours, whether joyous occasions

or not. It should be remembered that funerals, being sad occasions, are also

religious ceremonies. Therefore to attend any non-muslim’s funeral, memorial

service or other associated rituals are incorrect and sinful as it is tantamount to

worshipping according to their religion.

If one wishes to sympathise with the family of the deceased, then this is quite

permissible. However care should be taken that the visit for condolence does

not clash with any of their customary funeral rites. Therefore it is suggested that

if sympathies are to be expressed, one should wait for the completion of the

last rites of the burial or cremation, so that one’s appearance does not convey

the impression of participation in non-muslim prayers.

For both males and females to go on holiday to places of vice where gambling

and immorality is rife.

NOTE: Many South African muslims from up-country visit the coast quite often

and are accustomed to staying in hotels owned by non-muslims. Such hotels

are usually the playgrounds of licentiousness. Nude and semi-nude people in

bathing costumes move around shamelessly, clinging onto their partners, most

of whom are also drunk because liquor is served openly and freely. Yet muslims

prefer to stay in such surroundings instead of with friends and relatives.

Children are thus made to witness and accept the civilised barbarity of the

West. Even newly-weds prefer to begin their married life in such unhealthy and

un-Islamic environment. What we fail to realise is that this contamination by

the pollution of sexual depravity removes the respect for a husband from his

wife and for a father from the children. Inevitably there is a move towards the

introduction of un-Islamic lifestyles in one’s home, resented and disapproved

by the man of the house but unfortunately he nds no strength to check the

deluge.

AVOIDING

DIVORCE

Married life can never be completely free from trials and

tribulations that serve to test the strength of love and the

patience married couples have for each other.

No couple tying the marriage knot wants the marriage to

end up in divorce. Every spouse hopes and prays for a

lasting marriage. Unfortunately, not every such hope can

become a reality because of changing situations

subsequent to marriage.

Couples facing matrimonial problems should not try to

escape from their problems by choosing to dissolve their

marriage, because separation brings with it even more

problems, not least for couples who have children. The

more sensible thing to do would be to identify the cause

of the problems and try to eliminate it. This is what any

prudent and far-sighted couple would do.

We have been endowed by Allah (SWA) with grain and

we are encouraged by Islam to use it rationally in

resolving our problems. Those who allow themselves to

be ruled by their hearts (emotions and feelings) rather

than their minds in making crucial decisions would

indeed be putting to waste Allah’s precious gift to them.

The following should be considered when problems arise

at home:

Do not pronounce a divorce. Divorce is not an absolute

right of a spouse, it is a power that has been entrusted

upon one.

Adopt a positive attitude. Avoid emotional outbursts and

make an effort to discuss the problems positively with a

view to effecting a compromise.

Avoid arguments. In a contentious situation, both parties

invariably seek to establish that they are in the right and

the party that succeeds in doing so need not necessarily

be the one who is right.

Refer problems to parents of both parties or else consult

a reputable marriage counsellor, eg. the Muslim Judicial

Council. Alternatively, refer problems to impartial family

members who can mediate.

Women should take heed to the tough economic climate

which leads to unemployment. They should thus exercise

greater tolerance and perseverance (sabr).

Do not resort to trial separation as this often results in the

couples becoming estranged towards one another.

MAY ALLAH GIVE VICTORY TO ALL

THE MUJAHIDEEN AROUND THE WORLD

CONSTANT DESIRE & ASPIRATION FOR NAME & FAME

IS A DESTRUCTIVE SPIRITUAL ILLNESS

THREE ACTIONS ARE

NOT ACCEPTED WITHOUT

ANOTHER THREE

It has been mentioned that three

verses of the Quran cannot be

p r a c t i s e d u p o n w i t h o u t

p r a c t i s i n g o n b o t h t h e

constituents of each verse. These

are:

“Establish salah and pay zakah”.

Salah will not be accepted

without paying zakah and vice

versa. (Of course, this will only

apply to the wealthy people

upon whom zakah is obligatory.

“Obey Allah and obey the Rasool

(messenger).” Allah cannot be

obeyed without Rasulullah

(SAW) and vice versa.

“Show gratitude to Me and your

parents.” A person cannot be

grateful to Allah without being

grateful to his parents and vice

versa.

The person who pleases his

parents pleases Allah and the

one who displeases his parents

displeases Allah.

Hadhrat Farkhad Sabkhi (RA)

says that he read in a book that it

is not betting of children to

e v e n t a l k w i t h o u t t h e

permissions of their parents.

They should only speak when

asked something and should

never walk in front, on the right

or on the left of their parents.

They must always walk behind

them.

Serving O ne’s Pa r e nts i s

Superior Than Jihaad

A Sahabi (RA) once requested

permission from Rasulullah

(SAW) to ght in jihaad. When

Rasulullah asked him whether

his parents were alive, he

replied in the afrmative.

Rasulullah (SAW) then told him,

“Go and strive in their service.”

When even an able man is not

required to ght in jihaad, it will

be better for a person to rather

serve his parents at home. He

may not proceed for jihaad

without their permission. The

least form of disobedience to

parents is to mutter a word like

“uff!” when displeased about

something.

Allah says, “Do not even say

“Uff!” to them and do not

reproach them.”
