Dear ifm Razorbacks fans,
my name is Oliver Castek, I am 56 years old
and a founding member of the Ravensburg Razorbacks,
I had my first contact with American
football in 1985 when I was 18 years old.
We were three boys from Ravensburg and
had two helmets and two shoulder pads with
which we used to go to the Schwarzwäldle to
train (CRAZY).
At the end of 1985, I was asked if I would like
to play American football with the Lindenberg
Razorbacks in Lindenberg. We ended up being
six lads from Ravensburg who travelled to Lindenberg
twice a week to train.
We had a squad of 18 men in Lindenberg, with
whom we then played a friendly match against
the Sonthofen Trucks in the spring/summer of
1986, which we even managed to win.
Unfortunately, there were then disagreements
between the two camps of Ravensburg players
and Lindenberg players, whereupon we
agreed to go our separate ways.
We Ravensburg players then started an advert
in the Swabian newspaper and the weekly
paper in 1986, ‘We want you for American
Football’. The first meeting for this advert was
to be at the Hotel Storchen in Ravensburg. We
were so excited to see how many would answer
our call? When the day of the meeting
for the American football department arrived,
there were no less than 26 boys who were
interested in American football. It was incredibly
exciting and very euphoric, and a short
time later we joined TSB Ravensburg and the
American football department ‘Ravensburg
Razorbacks’ was born.
In 1987, the Ravensburg Razorbacks started
playing in the league and we were lucky
enough to have a man in our ranks with American
football experience, namely Charly Griesbeck.
He had already played for the Baden
Greifs (German champions at the time).

Charly was a defensive monster.
So Charly became our first head coach,
which was of course very good to start with.
We started training three times a week. We
trained outside all year round. In winter, we
trained on the sand pitch at TSB Ravensburg
(now an artificial pitch).
In the beginning, you might have to play on
both sides, defence and offence. I was actually
a wide receiver in the offence, but also
played cornerback in the defence. I was also
the kicker for the Ravensburg Razorbacks for
my entire 7-year playing career.
From a sponsorship point of view, we were
also a bit lucky and found a pretty good main
sponsor (computer company Tailorix) The
start of the first games was not easy. But we
got better and better as a team and it was
just great to experience and share the same
passion for the sport of American football
with 28 other lads.

the field with, thanks a million, it was a pleasure.

I became a part of the Razorbacks
family in 2011 and played with the
Razorbacks until 2013. For me, that‘s
exactly what the Razorbacks were
then, and have continued to be for
me to this day, Family. I have so
many fond memories of my time
spent in Ravensburg, especially with
the Pfeifer family, Frank and Mille. I
maintain contact with many of my
former teammates to this day, especially
with our Benzenhofen family. I
am forever grateful for the opportunity
to be a part of this great organization
and I a wishing you the best

The Razorbacks
Oldstars
have established themselves!
What started as a small seed last year has
now blossomed into a big tree. At the beginning,
the pioneers of the Oldstars had to
cancel one or two training sessions due to
a lack of participation. Now, that is almost
unimaginable, because a solid core squad
has been formed, which is added to at each
training session by a few youth players or
new interested parties, thus allowing training
to take place on a regular basis.
Born as an idea by department head Frank
Kienzle, a new division was founded at the
Razorbacks in 2023: the Oldstars. At first
they were known as „AH“, but the name never
quite fit. Even though it is mostly men
who come to training on Fridays at 6 p.m.
on the artificial turf field on TSB Ravensburg,
the Oldstars are a mixed team.
But what do the Oldstars actually do?
First and foremost, the Oldstars give some
former American football players from the
Razorbacks and other clubs a new sporting
home. Flag football is not played as
physically as the tackle part of American
football, but speed, coordination, ball-catching
skills and tackling or flag-pulling are
still important aspects of the game. So it‘s
ideal if you want to continue playing your
beloved team sport, but your body perhaps
need a little more rest than they did a few
years ago. But football-loving newcomers
are always welcome and will gradually be
initiated into the finer points of football.
When it all started with the Oldstars, after
a short warm-up, we always started playing
straight away. Nowadays, a small part
of the training also involves learning to run
routes and draw flags. This helps us to talk
about the same things and, especially for
newcomers, to understand and implement
things better.The focus of the training is on
working together and having fun with our
favourite sport.
You can see this both in the fair way that
they treat each other during the training
game and when they sit together at the
end with a small refreshment drink. Soon
the Oldstars will also be taking part in their
first tournament against other teams.A flag
fun tournament will be held in Albstadt at
the beginning of October, in which the Oldstars
will be playing.

Game results 2024:
SINCE 1982
The Hurricanes have been back in GFL 1 since
2021. The Hurricanes have to accept relegation
to GFL 2 approximately every 6 years and need
an average of 2 years to celebrate promotion
back to GFL 1. Their greatest success was in
2021, when Saarland finished runners-up in the
GFL South and reached the semi-finals of the
playoffs. The last time the two teams met was on
1 June 2024. The Saarland Hurricanes won 44:32
at home against the ifm Razorbacks. The season
got off to a promising start for the Hurricanes.
They started the first few games with a strong
squad and a motivated coaching team. However,
quarterback Andrew Brito then suffered a knee
injury and a number of injury-related setbacks
within the team meant that the team was unable
to achieve any major successes. Their defence
proved to be a solid unit.

INTERVIEW with
JAKE SUGGETT
Offensive-Coordinator &
Head-Coach DEVO-TEAM
First of all, congratulations on the
championship with the DEVO team as
the Head Coach.
Gaby: Last year you were a player for
the ifm Razorbacks and this year you
are OC and HC of the Devo team. How
did that come about?
Jake: It started last season, probably
at game 9, my body was telling me ,
its ready to be done. And after a lots
of injuries – it was time to retire. But i
wasn‘t done with football. I knew that i
would like to coach. After i talked with
Frank and the Board and they wanted
to bring me into the O-Line Coach position.
The Devo-Players asked to me to
do the HC position, i was there to help
them to train in the Offseason. And the
OC – the first two games in the season,
we struggled and after the Straubing
Game Coach Gilly and I talked
and decided I would take the Offence.
So I started 3 the OC job in week 3.

Gaby: You were also in Ravensburg during
the off-season. What did you do
there?
Jake: I worked with the local offence
of lineman and some of the local guys.
We go to the gym and got them a workout-plan
helped them to get their body
ready for the season. And i also did the
Touchdown: Football – School in Markdorf
and Wilhelmsdorf. Once a week i
taught kids flag football, how to play,
how the rules and who are we. Lots of
kids are interested and enjoyed the flag
football team.
Gaby: You were our center last year. Do
you miss playing in the GFL team?
Jake: : At the beginning of the year, i
missed it. I enjoyed playing and now
i don‘t miss my body hurting all the
time. I´m enjoying the coaching just
as much. Its a different side of football
and i´m looking forward every

practice and game
day as much as i did playing.
Gaby: What are your main tasks as OC?
Jake: So the main task is prepare the
offense every week. Come up with a
game plan, watch film from the other
team. figure out how we can you know
attack their defense and score points
so that‘s really overall the the big plan
and then through the game I‘m calling
every play for the game. Every play that
gets ran and then just prepping off and
throughout the whole week.
Gaby: Did you watch the film alone?
Jake: I‘ll watch it alone before the week.
Coach Max (our wide receivers coach)
and I have a meeting on every Monday,
and we just talk about what we‘ve watched
on film. What we like,what we don‘t
like, plays that we should run this week,
plays that we shouldn‘t and then Tuesday‘s
we have film before every practice
with the offense. I show them what the
game plan is. If there’s going to be any
new plays that we have for the week.
We show them what their defense looks
like, these are the good players, these
are the players we want to go after. So
we‘ll have film before every practice
and then we have film on
Wednesday nights to cover
practice film. Alone on
Monday, we watch – like six hours
in the office. Also more than
10 hours in the week.
Gaby: What was your worst and your
best experience this year in the GFL?
Jake: for me the worst experience was
the close games in Schwäbisch Hall and
Hildesheim. But the good thing is that
let us know what we are doing is the
right thing and competing with some
of the best. Schwäbisch Hall is the first
in the South and Hildesheim a top 3-4
Team. And the best, is this season that
the Razorbacks still come back.

Gaby: How is it for you that we are back
in Weingarten?
Jake: It is so different to last year. In
every way a good way. TSB was like a
away game feeling. It´s such a different
feeling in Weingarten. You feel the
crowd – you feel the energy. You can
feel the homefield advantage and it´s
not easy for other teams to play and
come into and have to deal with the
crowd and the energy. You can feel it as
a player that the crowd is behind you
and push.
Gaby: What do you like to do most
besides American football?
Jake: Thats a very tough question. I
always doing football stuff. I love to
watching movie or series and traveling
– going back in a bye week to England
or somewhere around europe. And if the
weather is nice i enjoying barbecuing
and german beer. .
Gaby: What would you suggest as an
improvement for the GFL?
Jake: I think, every thing we done is in
a good way. Improvements from the
last season and we had it in the right
direction. We had a rough start into
the season, but the last five games we
show the people what we can do and
what the future is looking like. Continue
doing what we do, but better.

Gaby: What is the secret for you this
year that we might get into the playoffs
in 2nd place?
Jake: First off all, Coach Gilly is done
a great job of really creating a team
culture. Making sure no one views himself
as an individual. We‘re all one team
and we‘re all striving together to be the
best versions of ourselves but together.
As far as an offensive on the offensive
side, I put a lot of high expectations out
there for the offence. I demand them
to play at a very high level because I
know they can. I tell them to strive for
perfection but settle with excellence.

Gaby: Will you stay in Ravensburg and
can we look forward to seeing you in
the 2025 season?
Jake: That‘s the plan right now. I
don‘t really wanna go anywhere. Ravensburg has become another home
for me and greatly appreciate everything
that they‘ve done for me. For an
american offensive-Lineman it doesn‘t
happen in our league very often. I‘ve really
enjoyed the last 17 months of living
in the Ravensburg area and it‘s been
amazing. The people, the team, the city
it‘s been amazing. So I don‘t really wanna
go anywhere so you can definitely
most likely see me here next year.

The new Livestream-Team
of the ifm Razorbacks Ravensburg
A look behind the scenes
After entering the stadium, which has also
been the stadium‘s name sponsor since this
year thanks to our partner TeleData, you
walk straight towards two containers stacked
on top of each other. The exterior design
by the guys from GraffitiMotion combines
the sport and the partnership with
the regional internet service provider from
Friedrichshafen. And what looks very elaborate
from the outside is no less elaborate
on the inside.

operate the LED wall, view the replays
and take care of the advertising and
support work. The LED wall was designed so
that it can also be used by the other clubs
in the stadium.
In order to make everything as efficient as
possible, the containers needed to be expanded.
This began in April and was a real
community project. On about six Saturdays,
18-20 people worked for 10-12 hours each to
prepare the containers for their new task.
This intensive collaboration of over 1500
hours not only improved the infrastructure,
but also strengthened team spirit.
With the promotion to the GFL1, the
livestream team of the ifm Razorbacks
Ravensburg has also developed significantly.
The team, which currently consists of
14 permanent members and 2 trainees,
broadcasts from two specially converted
containers. The front container (with a view of
the pitch) is divided into three areas: a
box for the moderators, one for the
play clock and one for the statistics.
This division enables a smooth and professional
broadcast of the games. Before
and during the game, two of our own
cameramen are on the sidelines, two
on the roof of the container, as
well as a „pitch overview“ camera and a
moderator camera. In order to show the
perfect image in the right situation, we
have three more people sitting in the

Previously, the livestream team had to start
setting up at 6:30 a.m. in order to be ready
by 3 p.m. Thanks to the new containers, they
can now start three hours before the game
starts, which makes the volunteer work
much easier. This time saving is a huge advantage
and makes the commitment much
more pleasant for the team members.
Special thanks go to the sponsors who generously
contributed to the costs of building
and converting the containers. Without
their support, this project would not
have been possible.
The two lower containers were sponsored
by the company NMH. The company Walko
Logistik also supported us with the transport
and assembly of the containers. The
company enerix enabled us to store them
temporarily and carry out the conversion
in the yard. The company PS-Dienstleister
sponsored the camera platform. The company
Haußmann Gerüstbau supported us
with a staircase. The company SEO-IP supports
us with all technical questions from
network. Infrastructure to hardware questions.

I would have to say it‘s keenan allen and Joshua

How did you get to the ifm razorbacks?
After moving here, I felt the need to play a team sport
again and I knew from a colleague that football is a
big sport in Ravensburg. And then one thing followed
another.

I would say my role models are my parents, who showed
me that with a lot of willpower, you can‘t let
anything get you down and you can
achieve anything. .

Classic schnitzel with spaetzle
and sauce.
