textiles. The factors that allow our world-standard
products to stand out in international markets include
our sustainable production methods, the distinction
we create with design, our uncompromising quality
standards, and our awareness of innovation. Brands and
customers operating in our main markets place special
importance on these aspects, so producers in Denizli
make extra efforts to achieve technical proficiency
in these areas. We closely follow current trends and
prepare ourselves for a sustainable future within the
framework of the European Green Deal.
DENİB President Hüseyin Memişoğlu
Denizli:
A leading
name and a
respectful
brand in
home textiles
When it comes to home textiles, one of the first places
that comes to mind is Denizli. The undeniable success of
Denizli’s textile sector is rooted in its thousands of years
of history. The textile products produced in our city
have been preferred throughout history, from fabrics for
sultans to palace decorations. Today, you can frequently
encounter Denizli home textile products on the world’s
most famous streets, in hotels, restaurants, and on
cruise ships. The journey that began 2,000 years ago
with ancient weaving continues today with innovative
approaches that never compromise on quality.
Our city, known as a textile production hub, continues
to build on its success, becoming one of the first
stops that come to mind when talking about home
Denizli exports nearly 5 billion USD worth of products
annually to over 185 countries in around 3,000 product
groups. Our city’s leading sector is textiles and apparel.
According to 2023 data, our city ranks first nationwide
in towel, bathrobe, and bed linen exports. 75% of the
country’s towel exports, 65% of bathrobe exports, and
55% of bed linen exports come from our city. Current
data shows that we continue to maintain our leading
position nationwide. These percentages prove that
Denizli holds significant power in the home textiles sector.
Guiding Our Branding Strategies under the
“Turkish Towels” Name
In today’s world, the way to keep up with competitive
conditions and changing consumption patterns is to create
strong brands. Strong brands mean more added value
and market share. In this context, as the Denizli Exporters
Association, we are carrying out the “Turkish Towels”
project to increase the awareness and positive perception
of our high-potential products in international markets.
We continue our efforts in line with our goal of
increasing the contribution of Denizli’s home textile
products to our city’s and country’s economy by
developing their market share in a more valueadded
way, thanks to their high branding potential
and sustainable structure. As the Denizli Exporters
Association, we organize approximately 20 different
international marketing programs annually for our
member companies. We participate in all events that
offer the opportunity for face-to-face meetings, which
we see as the easiest way to reach buyers, and we
encourage the participation of our members as well.
Hometextile & Design Russia offers a fantastic B2B
platform in the home textiles sector with its diverse
range of international products. We eagerly look forward
to presenting our home textile products, produced
with the latest production techniques, to visitors and
offering Turkish delight. We wish all participants in
the fair success and believe that Denizli’s high-quality,
sustainable, and innovative products will stand out at
the fair. We invite all our participating companies and
visitors to our stand number G40.
Lenzing forces reformation
of the textile value chain
• CELLFIL project brings together
15 strong partners from
research and industry
• EU co-financed CELLFIL
project with 6.9 million euros
in EU funding
• Lenzing’s sustainable,
bio-based lyocell filaments
promote the transformation
of the textile value chain
Lenzing – The Lenzing Group, a leading supplier
of regenerated cellulose fibers for the textile and
nonwovens industries, is working with the non-profit
organization RTDS Group and 13 other partners
from research and industry to promote the scaling of
lyocell filaments as part of the CELLFIL project. Cofunded
by the EU with EUR 6.9 million, the project
aims to drive the reformation of the textile industry
towards greater sustainability and a circular economy.
Joint research work reforms textile value chain
The Austrian organization RTDS has launched
the CELLFIL project with great vision. In close
cooperation with Lenzing Group, which is at the
technical helm of the project, CELLFIL aims to
reform the textile industry. The centerpiece of the
project is the sustainable and robust production of
lyocell filaments. By optimizing the entire fabric
production process and its intermediate processing
steps, the aim is to replace synthetic fibers with
environmentally friendly lyocell filaments in recyclable
end applications. This approach aims to develop and
utilize alternative raw material sources for textiles.
The realization of these goals is crucial for scaling up
lyocell filament production and promoting a circular
economy that represents an environmentally friendly
alternative to the currently dominant fossil-based
synthetic filaments. Lenzing is thus once again
sending a strong signal in favor of sustainability and
innovation in the textile industry.
CELLFIL is part of the renowned EU research
and innovation program Horizon Europe and is
supported by 15 partners from eight different
countries. An impressive EUR 6.9 million from the
European Union’s Horizon Europe program has
been made available for the implementation of this
initiative. The European Commission has presented
a visionary roadmap for the future of textiles, aiming
for a circular economy in which all textiles on the
EU market are durable, repairable and recyclable.
This underlines Europe’s commitment to sustainable
innovation and a greener future in the textile sector.
“We are still in the industrial start-up phase for lyocell
filaments. Many aspects, such as the availability of
lyocell filaments in the supply chain and technological
adjustments for the processing of cellulose yarns, need
to be addressed in order to change the capacities of
the textile industry, which is currently more suited to
polyester filaments,” says Markus Pichler, Head of
Lyocell Filament Development at the Lenzing Group.
“We are proud to be working with key industry and
academic partners to advance bio-based lyocell
filaments and promote a more sustainable and
circular textile industry through this innovation
project,” emphasizes Stephen Webb, project
coordinator and CEO of the RTDS Group.
have been in communication and product quality.
The exhibitors consistently offer forward-thinking
Sustainability Takes Center Stage
Reflecting the market’s evolving priorities, this
edition of Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles
placed a strong emphasis on sustainability. The
comprehensive fringe program featured a series
of events focused on green initiatives, including
“Bridging Borders: A Designer x Producer Talk on
Sustainability,” “About Healing,” the “Sustainable
Fibre Forum in Home Textiles,” and presentations by
fiber producers like 3M, Advansa, and Indorama. A
special session also introduced the Econogy concept,
which highlights sustainability efforts within Messe
Frankfurt’s Texpertise Network. Guest speakers and
designers from Europe and the Middle East brought
international perspectives to these discussions.
Anja Bisgaard Gaede, CEO of SPOTT trends &
business, emphasized the importance of sustainable
practices under the ‘Healing Home’ trend concept:
“As a trend designer, I focus on what matters most
for the industry and for me personally. Among the
eight key trend directions, I believe Bio-engineered
Innovations and Circular Systems are crucial, as they
have the potential to revolutionize textile production.
Both of these, along with Regenerative Possibilities,
are closely tied to sustainability, which is the
direction the industry must take. China, as a major
textile producer, has significant potential for more
collaborations between designers and producers.”
The Ikasas Japanese Home Design Gallery was
another highlight, expanding to feature five furniture
brands that integrate sustainability into their unique
yet functional designs. Other eco-conscious exhibitors
36 TRENDS
Emerging Color Trends
by Milou Ket
Renowned trend forecaster Milou Ket unveils an inspiring vision
for current and upcoming color trends. The Dutch expert
offers a wealth of insights, particularly valuable for emerging talents
in the interior decoration industry. Explore the following
ideas to discover the creative possibilities that lie ahead.
INTRODUCTION
In these times of turmoil that are defined by
uncertainty, disruption in the supply chain, war,
inflation, climate-, and energy crisis, we have a strong
need for consolation, wellbeing, and color.
Our interest in color is evident and has grown.
Artificial Intelligence is important and will gain
importance. Many companies are taking their
responsibility as to sustainability issues, many
alternative materials are available, derived from
natural waste. Or they recycle. We need to make
more conscious choices in production, consuming
and our way of life. In the interior, shapes have
become rounder and curvier, we see ridges and
ribs. Texture and imperfections, tactility, warmer
and earthy colors are important. Sometimes
primitive influences in shapes and materials are
applied. Organic ideas are opposed to artificiality
and technology. Colors should be mixed among the
themes. Acoustic solutions are important.
1. WARM AND GROUNDED
The first theme is called “Warm and Grounded”. It
is a timeless direction, with a need for comfort and
wellbeing. As foreseen, colour has become much
more important. In this theme we will see in the
future more colours that are influenced by nature in
warm earthy colours. The shapes are voluminous,
round and friendly. The design is simple, functional,
fluid, organic, quiet without superfluous details. A lot
of attention is given to sustainability and longevity,
especially for materials and for production methods.
Alternative natural materials are used, such as fungi
and leather made of fruit waste, seaweed, corn,
banana, recycled pet bottles, paper, coffee grind,
etc. etc. But also, hard materials such as marble and
travertine. The materials are quite heavy textured,
we see bouclé and tweed, but also cuddly materials
such as mohair, fake fur and wool. Textiles are
important to convey this need for softness. We see
high/low effects through tufting, loops, and fringes.
Carpets, in unexpected shapes, are used also on the
walls. Wallpaper and murals in colour blocking and
rounded abstract shapes are important. Furniture
should be versatile. Artificial intelligence has become
an important factor in visualization of the interiors.
3-D printed decorative objects play a role. Silver
coloured objects make a comeback.
COLOURFUL 2.7
TRENDS
2. REFLECTIONS AND TRANSPARENCY
The second theme is called “Reflections and
Transparency”. It is a modern, innovative direction,
with phantasy and surreal effects. Sometimes
it looks artificial. The materials that are used,
contribute to that. They are often man-made,
such as glass, Perspex, polyester resin and plastic.
Also recycled polyester is applied. Transparency,
special gradient effects and shifts of colour give a
modern touch to the interior. It is often associated
with light effects, sometimes with an acid or neon
colour touch to convey a specific effect. In the
prints we see for instance water colour effects
and clouds, but also at random spots and stains
and marble effects. Often the patterns are playful
and whimsical, curtains are often transparent and
executed in gradients. As part of the unreal-like
atmosphere, we see more and more renderings
with artificial intelligence. It is sometimes difficult
to distinguish fake from real. Also, gradients,
iridescence, and the play with transparent layers are
important. In the architecture we see arches, circles
and rounded shapes. We see ridges and serrated
shapes. Geometry, stripes, stylized patterns, and
hand painted patterns are applied on fabrics and
carpets. Murals are popular. Acoustic products play
an important role and are also used as room divider
and are made of recycled pet felt. We will see a lot
of 3-D printed objects such as vases etc. There is
interest in vegetable dyes.
3. CROSSOVER CREATIVITY
In this styling direction “Crossover Creativity” we
notice that the attention for hand crafted products
has grown. One-of-a-kind products, preferably
with imperfections, wabi sabi, are valued and add
character and personality to an interior. It also tells
the story of the resident. Traditional techniques
are appreciated such as ikat, shibori, tie & dye,
kilims etc. We see new interpretations of these
century-old techniques, for instance in unexpected
combinations or different applications. Natural
materials are in demand, such as wood, cork and
bamboo, raffia, rattan, terra cotta, linen, hemp
etc. We love the irregularities that show in the
application of the materials, the unevenness and
unpredictability, caused by chance. The expressions
of different cultures with their local materials, skills
and knowledge are blended into a highly personal
interior, with a bohemian character. Especially the
handwork from Morocco and in general from Africa
shows in carpets, textiles, wicker work and ceramics
to name a few. As in other styling directions textures
are appreciated here too. Handmade cushions show
embroideries, fringes, tassels and are hand tufted.
Products from recycled materials or other conscious
sources, will gain importance. We see sometimes
archaic and primitive shapes. We also see tribal
products such as masks.
4. COLOUR CLASH
This style direction “Color Clash” is about bright,
clear, acid colors, that are often applied in a single
product, especially small furniture, accessories, and
outdoor products. They are often too bright and
overwhelming to apply in an interior, although they
may be used in wallcoverings as an eyecatcher. But
they are mainly used for decorative accessories that
stand out, such as carpets or textile wall hangings,
vases, a single piece of furniture etc.
They look nice in multicolor effects. We see
influences from Modern Art, Bauhaus, but also,
more playful and whimsical art movements such
as Memphis. We see ridges, serrated edges and
bubbles. Color blocking is important. The emphasis
HTE HOME TEXTILE EXPORTS SEPTEMBER 2024

is on man-made materials such as glass, Perspex,
acrylic, polyester resin and plastic. Graphic effects,
sometimes in black and white, are important, such
as stripes, checkerboards, enlarged pixels, facets
and geometric patterns. All kinds of light effects play
a role, we see lenticular materials, and application
and integration of adaptable coloured Led’s. In the
architecture we will see, also in this style direction,
more rounded shapes, such as arches or circles.
Renderings with Augmented Reality and Artificial
Intelligence will become more and more important.
Small furniture such as side tables and stools are
important to adapt to different situations in a versatile
interior. Many graphical prints can be combined.
5. WONDERS OF NATURE
In the styling direction “Wonders of Nature” we
see how issues such as care for the environment,
sustainability, conscious consuming, and the concern
for climate change are the drivers behind this theme.
We are trying to diminish our ecological footprint
by using alternative materials such as fungi, corn,
banana leaf, bamboo, cardboard, vegan leather and
using food waste such as coffee grind. Renewable
natural materials such as linen, hemp, raffia, rattan,
wood and recycling are a must. Flora and fauna are
depicted in wallcoverings, posters, cushions, and
other decorative products. We see plants, foliage,
insects, birds, butterflies, or products with a nostalgic
association. We see a glorification of wild nature
sometimes from the past, with exotic trees and
plants, plantations with palm trees, exotic birds and
flowers, tigers, monkey’s, jaguars, but also creatures
of the sea. Murals show more romantic images
of historical Mediterranean landscapes with pine
trees. We enjoy the soothing and calming effects of
the color green, also for paint. Botanical prints are
popular, with pictures from natural history books.
TRENDS
49
Murals are very important. Carpets and textile wall
hangings take on unexpected shapes. Textures with
tufting, high/ low reliefs are important. Green colours
are often combined with dusty pink and terra shades.
Tiles will be applied in interiors too.
6. ECLECTIC TREASURES
In this last direction “Eclectic Treasures” the
inspiration comes from opulence, luxury, glamour,
nostalgia and history. Sometimes history with a
humorous twist. Also, Bohemian influences play a
role. Gold, and other shiny metallics such as copper
in small touches or thin lines, play a role. Use ocher
from other themes for this. The curiosity cabinet
continues to play an important role. We see ideas
from Natural History books, science, botanical
prints, collections, and discoveries from the animal
kingdom and nature, stuffed animals, rare precious
stones, glass domes, corals, and shells, fragments
of classic statues from the Greek and Roman era.
Animals are depicted as humans. There also can be
a modern approach with bright light effects against
a dark background, iridescence, aurora borealis and
oil spots effects. Mid-Century furniture is important,
especially in velvet with a golden or copper accent,
and fringes for a dramatic effect. Leather and welded
materials are applied. Dark, rich colors as paint
give a moody atmosphere. Precious stones such
as marble, travertine, and tiger eye are popular:
real, as veneer or as imitation. Acoustic properties
remain important. Embroideries, velvets, jacquards,
and traditional motifs play a role in fabrics. We see
rhythm, irregular lines and zigzag patterns come
forward in the contrast between black and white.
Brown and grey work well together.
Gimatex Industries Pvt. Ltd. is renowned for its
commitment to quality and sustainability. Operating
fully integrated facilities in Hinganghat, within
India’s major cotton-growing region of Vidarbha,
the company manages ginning, spinning, recycling,
weaving, and processing units. Additionally, Gimatex
boasts a state-of-the-art fabric processing unit in
Dholka, near Ahmedabad. As a family-owned
business with a history spanning over 125 years,
Gimatex shares a deep-rooted connection with
Trützschler. Together, these partners are collaborating
closely to build on this legacy and drive their shared
vision into the future.
“Our clients demand consistent quality at competitive
prices,” says Mr. Vineet Mohota, Director at Gimatex.
“We fulfill these demands by continuously adopting
Trützschler and Indian company
Gimatex have enjoyed a strong
partnership since 2006,
marked by numerous successful
collaborations. Initially,
Gimatex utilized Trützschler’s
Integrated Draw Frame (IDF)
technology in direct spinning.
Now, they’re pioneering its use
to transform textile waste into
valuable ring yarn.
56 TECHNOLOGY
the latest technologies to enhance quality, conserve
energy, and advance sustainability. Trützschler is a
crucial partner in this endeavor.”
Cost Efficiency and Enhanced Productivity
Central to this collaboration is Trützschler’s IDF
technology, which Gimatex employs to produce
high-quality yarn from a diverse range of raw
materials, including 100% cotton, polyester,
recycled fibers, and various blends.
Primarily, Gimatex uses Trützschler’s IDF to
manufacture rotor yarns through a direct spinning
process. This approach streamlines the spinning
process by eliminating draw frame passages,
feeding fiber slivers directly from the card into the
integrated drafting passage. This method reduces
electricity consumption and requires less space
compared to conventional draw frame setups,
enabling Gimatex to cut costs while boosting
output without compromising quality. Although IDF
technology is typically applied in rotor and vortex
spinning, Gimatex is among the first spinning
mills in India to innovate a special IDF process
for producing traditional and recycled ring yarn.
This unique approach allows Gimatex to utilize the
same setup for open-end yarn production. The
resulting ring yarn, often coarser and blended with
recycled materials, is used for cotton/spandex (lycra)
products with counts of Ne 10s and Ne 16s. The
yarn production process involves a blow room, a TC
15 card with IDF, a Trützschler TD 10 draw frame,
a speed frame, and a ring frame.
A Partnership Built on Trust
“The performance of Trützschler’s IDF machines is
outstanding,” Mr. Mohota notes. “We also benefit from
Trützschler’s expert support teams, who are always
available to provide guidance, answer questions, and
share global best practices for every application.”
The longstanding relationship between Gimatex
and Trützschler is further strengthened by the
flexibility, efficiency, and sustainability of IDF
technology. As the Indian market continues to
evolve, this partnership is committed to adapting
and thriving together, consistently meeting the high
expectations of their customers.
60 TRENDS
Future meets past:
Heimtextil Trends 25/26
curated by Alcova Milano
for the first time
Heimtextil has announced an exciting new
collaboration with the innovative minds behind Alcova,
a collective renowned for its cutting-edge presentations
during Milan Design Week. Alcova, founded by curator
and creative director Valentina Ciuffi and architect
Joseph Grima, has gained widespread recognition
for transforming historical spaces—such as old
bakeries, abandoned cashmere factories, and former
military hospitals—into vibrant venues for showcasing
independent designers. These unique locations, often
inaccessible to the public, become the backdrop for
pioneering exhibitions and captivating installations,
fostering dialogue among those who shape modern
design culture. Since its inception in 2018, Alcova has
consistently demonstrated how blending traditional
elements with contemporary design can generate fresh
and thought-provoking narratives.
“The partnership between Heimtextil and Alcova is
set to expand creative horizons and inject new energy
into the textile industry,” says Olaf Schmidt, Vice
President of Textiles & Textile Technologies. “With
the collaboration of Valentina Ciuffi, Joseph Grima,
and their international, interdisciplinary network, we
aim to further the forward-thinking spirit of Heimtextil
Trends. Alcova’s dynamic approach will not only help
us identify global changes and trends in textiles but also
explore how these trends are perceived and utilized.
We encourage visitors to reconsider the cultural and
material significance of textiles. Exhibitors will also
benefit from participating in the Trend Preview and will
receive the Trend Booklet in advance.”
Bridging the past and future: Reimagining
historical trends
Under the theme ‘Future Continuous,’ Heimtextil
Trends 25/26 will explore an ongoing process of
renewing and transforming past trends. The focus will
not just be on the past as a nostalgic reflection but as
a source of inspiration for shaping a new future.
As the name implies, language will play a pivotal
role in the trend research for Heimtextil Trends
25/26. “Language helps us to understand trends by
describing how they evolve over time. It allows us
to analyze their significance and predict their future
impact,” explain Valentina Ciuffi and Joseph Grima.
“Thus, language becomes an essential tool for
understanding and communicating the complexity
and progression of future developments.”
The Heimtextil Trends 25/26 are shaped by deliberate
linguistic choices: designers, textile researchers, and
representatives from Alcova’s extensive network share
their insights through interviews. These discussions
cover a wide range of topics relevant to the textile
industry, from politics and history to data ethics and
sustainable agriculture. Textiles are recognized as
powerful agents of change, deeply intertwined with
the ecological and global challenges of our era. The
insights gained not only explore the historical and
future roles of textiles but also influence Alcova’s color
selection. The resulting color palette goes beyond
mere visual appeal, with each color name carrying a
deeper emotional and cultural narrative.
In the ‘Trend Arena’ in Hall 3.0, visitors will experience
an extraordinary display where Alcova artfully
connects the past and future of the textile industry.
Past textile trends will be revisited and revitalized,
offering inspiration for future developments. Heimtextil
Trends 25/26 will serve as a central hub for innovative
practices, challenging established views and opening
new perspectives on textiles.
The full details of ‘Future Continuous’ will be unveiled
at the Trend Preview on September 12, 2024.
