Turkish exports to
China witness nearly
50% surge in July
Trade relations between Türkiye and
China, which particularly resurfaced
amid a recent mega investment deal of
the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV)
maker, BYD, with Turkish authorities,
to a report.
Accordingly, the demand for Turkish
products from China continues, and
Turkish companies continue to boost
their exports to this country. The latest
data indicated a nearly 50% surge in
exports in July compared to last year.
China, which faces economic and trade
difficulties with Western countries, continues
Türkiye has entered a phase where international
companies are unveiling their investment decisions
in the country, and more “good news” is expected to
follow , according to Turkish Vice President Cevdet
Yılmaz.
Speaking at a meeting of the Investment Environment
Improvement Coordination Council (YOİKK), Yılmaz
noted that issues related to improving the investment
environment will be on the agenda both at the technical
level and at the level of parliamentary work in the fall
period, adding that the goal is to “make Türkiye an
investment base.”
“Amendments to the competition law and the climate
change bill are among the priority issues that will be
put on the agenda of the new parliamentary term,”
Turkish exports via
railways surge nearly
13% in Jan-July period
Exports via railways in Türkiye surged nearly 13% in
the January-July period this year and 1.2 million tons of
export cargo was carried in the stated period, a top official
said, highlighting the significant momentum the country
has gained in rail transportation.
Reviewing the freight data for the period in a written
statement, Transport and Infrastructure Minister
Abdulkadir Uraloğlu emphasized that Türkiye›s expanding
railway transportation capacity would contribute to
boosting export volumes further in the coming years.
«We see that the use of railways in our export transportation
is increasing every year, and under the leadership of our
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we are tirelessly working
to develop our railway transportation and infrastructure,
which stand out for their environmental and economic
benefits, to meet the growing demand,» said Uraloğlu.
«We have also renewed conventional lines that had been
untouched for almost 100 years. We have connected our
organized industrial zones, factories and ports to our
railway network,» he added. Page 6
“Another issue we will put on parliament’s agenda in the
new legislative term is electronic notification, which
will speed up judicial procedures,” Yılmaz added.
“The draft prepared on this issue has reached a certain
stage. In addition, the work on the administrative and
technical infrastructure of the TechVisa program,
which was produced to attract skilled workers to our
country, has reached its final stage.” Page 8
Türkiye and Uzbekistan strengthening
economic and political relations
The relationship between Türkiye and Uzbekistan
has witnessed significant growth over recent years,
evolving into a strategic partnership marked by robust
economic cooperation and deepening political ties. As
both countries navigate a complex global landscape,
their collaboration reflects a mutual commitment to
fostering regional stability, economic prosperity, and
cultural exchange.
Türkiye seeks to
strengthen global
trade ties with new
FTAs, PTAs
In addition to the free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations,
Türkiye aims to strengthen its bilateral trade exchange
through preferential trade agreements (PTAs) that provide
mutual advantages in specific sectors, according to a report.
According to information obtained by Anadolu Agency
from the Trade Ministry, Türkiye is on track to signing
comprehensive FTAs to enhance the competitiveness of
its industry and provide market advantages to exporters in
other countries.
In this context, 23 FTAs that Türkiye has signed are
currently in force. Additionally, the approval and
negotiation processes for FTAs with some countries are
ongoing.
Besides these, PTAs with Iran, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan
and Pakistan, which provide mutual advantages in specific
sectors, are making significant contributions. Page 6
Historical Context and Diplomatic Relations
Türkiye and Uzbekistan share a rich historical and
cultural heritage, with ties dating back to the Turkic
empires of the past. Diplomatic relations between
the two nations were officially established in 1992,
following Uzbekistan’s independence from the Soviet
Union. Since then, both countries have worked to
strengthen their relationship, driven by a shared vision
of enhancing bilateral ties across various sectors. Page 10
Minister says
Türkiye emerging as
energy hub in region
Türkiye now has the infrastructure to receive natural
gas beyond its domestic needs, positioning
the country to emerge as a regional energy hub,
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan
Bayraktar has announced.
“To become a trade center in the energy sector,
certain prerequisites must be met. There needs to
be an abundant supply from diverse sources, and
competition among various gas suppliers is essential,”
Bayraktar stated in an interview during a
visit to the Filyos Natural Gas Processing Facility
in the country’s north.
In a scenario where operations are conducted
for 200-250 days a year, Türkiye could import
at least half of its gas requirements in the form
of liquefied natural gas (LNG) via tankers, the
minister noted. “We have agreements with the
United States, Qatar, Algeria, Nigeria and Oman.
The number of our suppliers is increasing,” he
added. Page 7
How to survive
dynamically?
The Turkish exporters are fully conscious of the fact that they
have to cope with the dynamically changing conditions; and they
strive to do so in order to survive in the world markets. From the
stand point of exporters, competition is a complex series of moves
and countermoves on a global landscape. Exporters operating
in the region are no exception. They are particularly involved in
identifying, evaluating and selecting target markets.
Competition appears from all corners of the globe. Customers
demand more. To respond, manufacturers are reducing costs and
increasing responsiveness through outsourcing, sourcing globally
and implementing demand-driven strategies such as pull-based
inventory management. All these trends cause greater reliance
on third parties to manage the manufacturing and delivery of products
to customers.
Turkey’s own emerging potential and its market attractiveness
arise mainly from the sustainable growth and development path
launched by the Government.
For this reason, Turkey closely monitors developments in global
economy and implement policies in line with its medium-term economic
program.
The Government focuses on policies to increase private sector’s
investments, direct international investments and exports.
Nevertheless, it is hard to keep its competitive position in the world
market full of emerging players. Thus, manufacturers have shifted
their operations to value-added products and brand names
more than ever. Currently, many of Turkish manufacturers have
their own designs and brands in international markets.
Indeed, world trade markets allow producers and consumers
of the participating countries to benefit from lower prices, higher-quality
products, more diverse supply of goods, and higher
growth
As known, Turkiye, being the oldest of our publications, conveys
the messages of the Turkish exporters for years by participating in
a series of international fairs and exhibitions.
We wish Turkish business people and their foreign counterparts
lucrative trade.
World Bank revises up
global growth forecast for
2024
GDP growth projected at 2.6% this year, 2.7% in 2025-26
ANKARA – The World Bank revised the global growth forecast
for this year to 2.6%, up 0.2 percentage point from its previous
projection.
The figure is foreseen to hold steady compared to last year for the
first time in three years despite heightened geopolitical tensions
and high interest rates, the bank said in its latest Global Economic
Prospects report.
The upward revision was led by continued solid growth in the US,
it stressed.
The bank forecast the gross domestic product (GDP) growth will
edge up to an average of 2.7% in 2025-26 amid modest growth in
trade and investment.
The figure is below the 3.1% average in the decade before the
pandemic or 2010-19.
“Four years after the upheavals caused by the pandemic, conflicts,
inflation, and monetary tightening, it appears that global economic
growth is steadying,” said Indermit Gill, the World Bank Group’s
chief economist and senior vice president.
The GDP in developing economies are forecast to increase 4% on
average in 2024-25 and in advanced economies to hike 1.5% this
year before rising to 1.7% next year.
Gill underlined the need for developing economies to find ways to
encourage private investment, reduce public debt, and improve
education, health, and basic infrastructure.
The report highlighted that one in four developing economies is
expected to remain poorer than it was in 2019.
The World Bank hiked its growth projection for China by 0.3
percentage point to 4.8% this year, due to stronger-than-expected
activity in early 2024, particularly exports. The world’s secondlargest
economy is projected to grow 4.1% in 2025, down 0.32 point
from the January report.
The GDP in the US is expected to increase by 2.5% this year and
1.8% next year, with upward revisions of 0.9 point and 0.1 point,
respectively.
The euro area’s GDP growth is projected to come in at 0.7% in 2024,
the same as foreseen in the previous report, and 1.4% in 2025, a
downward revision of 0.2 points.
The Turkish economy’s growth forecast was cut by 0.1 point to 3%
for 2024 and 0.3 point to 3.6% for next year.
The World Bank projected the global inflation to average at 3.5%
this year and 2.9% in 2025.
Global interest rates are likely to remain high by the standards of
recent decades -- averaging about 4% over 2025-26, roughly double
the 2000-19 average, read the report.
Treasury and Finance Minister
Mehmet Simsek announced
significant progress in
securing international
funding. In a recent statement,
he emphasized the country’s
growing cooperation with
global financial institutions,
aiming to obtain vital
resources to support economic
initiatives and development
projects.
Simsek stated that they are at
the final stage for securing $2.5
billion in foreign financing.
“Our work with international
financial institutions is
turning into concrete steps.
Development-oriented
projects are supported with
favorable financing, longterm
and below-market
interest rates, and confidence
in the program continues to
increase,” he said.
$2.9B in financing secured this
year
Simsek reported that Türkiye
has secured approximately
$2.9 billion in long-term
financing at below-market
interest rates this year.
This funding primarily
addresses infrastructure
needs following recent
earthquakes and supports
green transformation
initiatives for exporters.
“This financing is primarily used
to meet the infrastructure
needs that arise after the
earthquake,” said Simsek.
The financing aligns with
Türkiye’s climate change goals
and green economy transition.
Future projects and approvals
Looking ahead, Simsek
highlighted several upcoming
projects awaiting approval
and signing. Notably, the
World Bank has approved four
projects totaling around $1.9
ARTIFICIAL TISSUE TECHNOLOGIES
BLOOCELL® is the world's first 'ARTIFICIAL TISSUE TECHNOLOGY' developed in the field of tissue
engineering used in the treatment of tissue deficiencies and can be produced in complementary, therapeutic,
and personalized anatomical forms.
Due to bone damage in the skull caused by prenatal (before
birth) factors, the swelling of the baby's brain and its stay in
intensive care, the joint damage in the mother who worked
standing for long periods, the partial paralysis of the father
who suffered nerve damage in his hand in a traffic accident,
the irreversible surgeries undergone by a young girl due to
aesthetic concerns, the struggles faced by a firefighter
undergoing severe burn treatment, and the difficulties of a
grandfather diagnosed with breast cancer in the prime of his
life—while these situations may minimally affect individuals,
they significantly traumatize society as a whole. We experience
the moral satisfaction of successfully treating these real-life
cases together with you.
Climate change, environmental pollution, occupational
diseases, nutritional problems, natural disasters, obesity,
ultraviolet rays, intense radiation, industrialization, chemical
factors, traffic, rapidly increasing cancer cases, workplace
accidents, prolonged stress, aesthetic concerns, hospital
infections, and an aging population are leading to significant
health problems today.
Do you hear
Depending on the severity of the damaged tissue area, patients
may experience painful and insufficient healing processes.
Bloocell® technology provides complementary treatment
services to its patients. However, some health issues around
the world still await solutions. For example, while there is no
complete cure for conditions such as organ loss, tissue loss in
tumor areas, and large-scale, deep burns, only supportive
treatments are available.
Bloocell® reconstructs various tissues such as bone, cartilage,
skin, and nerves. Therefore, Bloocell® offers a broader range
of applications compared to grafts and carries lower risks.
The future vision of Bloocell® is to make organ transplants
more successful and accessible by developing new
technologies. With its innovative technologies, Bloocell® aims
to lead globally, enhance patients' quality of life, and
contribute to groundbreaking advancements in the field of
medicine.
As diseases that pose significant threats to
human health continue to advance in
Europe and around the world, conservative
treatments, which are used in medicine for
monitoring or drug therapy, are becoming
inadequate. Surgical intervention becomes
essential. Professional healthcare workers
are seeking solutions for these diseases and
sometimes find themselves powerless.
Since the 2000s, there has been an increase
in innovative approaches in the healthcare
field to create more effective treatment
options. These innovative approaches are
eliminating the limitations of traditional
Türkiye has achieved a
significant reduction in
its current account deficit
during the first half of 2024,
with a $407 million surplus
recorded in June, the
Central Bank of the Republic
of Türkiye (CBRT) reported.
According to Trade
Minister Omer Bolat, this
improvement is attributed
to a combination of rising
exports and declining
imports, which has
bolstered the country’s
macroeconomic stability.
In June 2024, Türkiye
recorded a current account
surplus of $407 million,
marking the first surplus
since September 2023.
The current account deficit
for the period from January
to June 2024 stood at $16.5
billion, a 55% decrease
compared to the same
period in 2023.
Trade Minister Bolat noted
that exports have increased
by 2.9%, reaching $258.8
billion by June, while
imports decreased by 6.6%,
down to $346.4 billion.
The trade deficit narrowed
by 26.6%, dropping to $87.6
billion.
Bolat highlighted that the
trade deficit has narrowed
by 26.6%, with the exportto-import
coverage ratio
improving to 74.7%.
Service exports, particularly
from travel, have
significantly contributed to
the surplus, with annualized
service revenues hitting
a record $105.8 billion in
June.
bThe CBRT data also
shows that travel revenues
reached $51.9 billion,
further bolstering the
current account balance.
Bolat highlighted that
with continued support for
exports and measures to
curb imports, the current
account deficit is expected
to fall below the Medium-
Term Program (MTP) target
by the end of the year.
The ongoing trend of
improved trade balance
is projected to contribute
positively to both the current
account and economic
growth throughout 2024.

“Healthy Choice for Health”
ORSA, which produces Orthopedics and Physiotherapy products, has become a sought-after
brand all over the world. Regarding the company’s activities and developments in the
sector, ORSA Ortopedi Sanayi General Manager Pharm. We talked to Necdet Capa.
Can we get to know ORSA Orthopedics Industry
company, which is an organization
of Capa Group, better?
ORSA has been producing Orthopedics and
Physiotherapy products since 1976. Setting
out with the slogan of “Healthy Choice
for Health”, ORSA first put an end to our
country’s dependence on abroad for Orthopedic
products. Our policy of offering high
quality and certified quality products to consumers
at affordable prices has been popular
not only in Turkey but also all over the world.
Turkish Orthopedics products have become a
symbol of trust and quality abroad with our
honest, high quality and affordable overseas
sales. ORSA has also become a sought-after
brand all over the world.
Exp.Ph. Necdet CAPA
“ORSA IS ONE OF THE WORLD’S
BIGGEST COMPANIES”
ORSA Orthopedics Industry is very active
in bringing products to the sector. For this,
can we listen to your product range from
you?
Since we love R&D, we are constantly working
on developing new products. This enables raw
material producer companies outside our sector
to bring us continuous cooperation offers
on technological product development. Thus,
we are proud of introducing new products to
the sector every year and always breaking new
ground in our sector.
I think we are one of the biggest companies
in the world in terms of product diversity.
We have more than 750 types of production.
Since we are an old manufacturer, we have
the ability to produce all kinds of orthopedic
products, from classical model products to
modern products. That’s why we have a variety
of products that appeal to every doctor
in every country in the world. For example,
we can produce the Lumbosacral Corset in
the classic buckle model. We can also produce
models with elastic velcro. We can produce in
rigid model. We can produce a unique model
in the world from the sweatproof Alptex
three-dimensional fabric. Thus, we manufacture
more than thirty models, even in the
Lumbosacral corset alone. Whatever model
the doctor wants, he can find that model in
us. Our dealer can supply any model that the
doctor wants from our company, without the
need for another manufacturer. Our company
is preferred because it is also advantageous for
sellers to obtain every product they seek in
orthopedics from a single company.
“EASE OF USE AND
FUNCTIONALITY ARE
IMPORTANT”
What is the most important feature that allows
you to become a “Brand sought after in
the world” and distinguishes you from your
competitors?
The most important feature that distinguishes
us from our competitors is our ability to
empathize and put ourselves in the patient’s
place. Since we have instilled this feature in
our employees since 1976, we can immediately
separate the product that is not suitable
for the patient in production and sale. In the
use of raw materials, it is important for us that
the raw material is non-toxic and not allergic
before the price. There are issues that we pay
more attention to than the cost of the finished
product, not sweating, ease of use and functionality.
We become a sought-after brand in
the world, as we have proven our work that
respects the patient, nature and people with
tests, clinical studies and quality certificates.
“PATIENTS NO LONGER
DISRUPT TREATMENT WITH
REGULAR USE “
As a company that was awarded the “Best
Orthopedic Support Products Manufacturer”
by Global Health & Pharma, can you
tell us about your success strategies?
Receiving the Best Orthopedic Support Products
Manufacturer award by GHP in England
has been a source of pride for us and
our country. We received this award with
our products that make the life of the sick,
elderly and disabled people easier. We can
briefly list our products made of 3D Alptex
fabric, which enables us to receive
the award;
The sheets made of 3D Alptex
fabric, which we have developed, provide
thermal comfort with high air permeability,
sweat less, feel cooler and dry, and provide
excellent pressure distribution. With these
properties, it prevents the opening of wounds
in the elderly and patients. It eliminates many
factors such as sweating, pressure formation,
and lack of air that cause pressure sores to
open.
For people who are constantly sitting in a
wheelchair, we made pads made of terry cloth
and 3D fabric for the back and waist area
of the wheelchair. Our pads, which provide
superior air circulation and pressure distribution,
also provided life comfort to wheelchair
addicts. It has made their lives easier by
preventing problems such as sweat and stuffiness.
In cases such as menopause, old age, diabetes
and excessive sweating, falling asleep and
uninterrupted sleep are problematic. Most
people get out of bed without rest. With our
bamboo Alptex sheets that we have developed
for such situations, we have enabled people to
achieve the comfort of sleep. Thus, a comfortable
and thermally comfortable sleep pattern
was generated in patients and the elderly.
Our company, which has been producing orthopedic
supports since 1976, has worked with
different raw materials until today. We have
hundreds of model products that we produce
for ailments in all parts of the body. In the
spine, waist, hip, knee, hand-ankle, shoulder,
arm, trunk, in short, in every joint and muscle;
We have products used in every part of the
body. These products are given as a support to
the affected area. Fixing, restraining, resting,
protecting, etc. Our products are used for various
purposes. The problem we have been experiencing
for years with raw materials such
as neoprene, knitted fabric and sponge fabric
we use in these products; it was sweating the
area where they were used. All products were
sweating and not ventilating the applied area.
Therefore, the patient did not use the products
regularly and interrupted the treatment. In
addition, the patient was delaying the treatment
because he did not have sweating control.
There could be discomfort in the sweating
area. The patient’s treatment was delayed due
to intermittent use. Our works made of three-dimensional
fabric inspired us. We produced
Orsa Plus series innovative orthopedic
support products that thin this fabric, provide
the necessary elasticity, and provide superior
air circulation and excellent pressure distribution.
With these support products produced
with 3d Alptex fabric technology that makes
you sweat less, feels cooler and dry, patients
no longer interrupt the treatment with regular
use. It is treated in a shorter time without deteriorating
the quality of life. Sweating control
also prevents patients from sweating and getting
cold.
What should hospitals or dealers
in your sector pay attention to
when purchasing products? What are your
suggestions?
Unfortunately, in recent years, the raw materials
used to reduce costs in our industry have
begun to turn to low-quality, non-standard
cheap products. Manufacturers started to use
non-standard cheap raw materials to reduce
costs. For example, there is a raw material called
Neoprene, which is used in products such
as Knee Braces, Ankle Braces, Elbows. Neoprene
is a fabric that stretches in four directions
and gives support to the damaged area as if
holding it by hand. I regret to see that most of
the manufacturers in Turkey have started to
use sponge fabric instead of neoprene. I call
this fabric fake neoprene. Because there is a
sponge that has been tried to be likened to neoprene,
and its price corresponds to one fifth
of the neoprene fabric. Since this fake neoprene
does not stretch like real neoprene, its therapeutic
properties are greatly reduced. Since
there is a sponge in the fabric, the sponge is
divided into pieces with the velcro used while
the fabric is attached and removed. While
the knee pad made of neoprene is used for 1
year, the knee pad made of fake neoprene falls
apart in 1 month. I used to say that manufacturers
using low quality non-stretch neoprene
should be careful. Now, even worse, hospitals
and dealers should pay attention to manufacturers
using fake neoprene when purchasing
products. Even when considering the knee
pad produced by us from neoprene and the
knee pad produced by another company from
fake neoprene, it is noticeable with its weight
and fullness.
In addition, companies that use thin fabrics
such as paper by reducing the weight of the
lined fabric, which is widely used in corsets,
unfortunately increased. There are companies
that delay the treatment by stealing from the
thickness of the fabric so that the cost is cheap.
Due to this thin fabric, the corset is deformed
in a short time and the patients suffer.
Dealers and hospitals should pay attention to
these when purchasing products.
The downside is that companies that make
this type of non-standard production expand
abroad. As these poor quality products are
sold abroad, complaints will come. These types
of companies will cause permanent damage
to the perception that Turkish Orthopedic
products, which we have developed by working
and toiling in accordance with the standard
for years, are of high quality. This is why
it is necessary to pay attention to companies
that run away to cheap and poor quality of
everything in order
to give low
prices abroad.
“NATURAL
PRODUCTS WILL BE
SUPPORTED”
How do you evaluate the developments in
your sector? Is there a new trend?
As in every subject in the world, there have
been developments towards natural products
in our sector as well. Products made from natural
products that do not harm nature and
humans will soon become more popular. The
new trend in the world will be healthy health
products. We also conduct researches and
studies in this direction on our raw materials.
In addition, we have started production
on natural medicinal products in our newly
established Tabimer Medical Aromatic Plants
Center Company. We started the production
of medicinal plants, aromatic oils, hydrolates
and medicinal teas, which are sold in Pharmacopeia
quality pharmacies with the advice
of a doctor. We started to get very good results
from our studies with academic and scientific
support. We think that we will be able to appear
in your journal with good news in the
field of Traditional and Complementary Medicine
with Tabimer, where we are going with
slow and scientific steps.

Türkiye seeks to
strengthen global trade
ties with new FTAs, PTAs
ürkiye’s total machinery exports,
including free zones, amounted to
$15.8 billion in the January-July
Continued From Page 1
Moreover, efforts are underway
to implement a new PTA with the
Maldives. Discussions are also continuing
for the initiation of negotiations
to sign this agreement with
Algeria.
Accordingly, with its extensive
network of trade agreements, Türkiye
is among the top 10 countries
in the world with the most FTAs.
The domestic approval processes
of FTAs that Türkiye is conducting
with Ukraine, Qatar, Lebanon and
Sudan are ongoing.
In this context, a new era began
with the publication in the Official
Gazette at the beginning of this
month of the regulation concerning
the Türkiye-Ukraine FTA, which
was signed in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv
on Feb. 3, 2022.
The agreement, which is awaiting
approval by the Ukrainian Parliament,
will enter into force once the
domestic approval process is completed.
The agreement aims to significantly
liberalize a large portion of agricultural
and industrial products originating
from Ukraine.
Moreover, the Türkiye-Qatar Trade
and Economic Partnership Agreement
(TEPA) was signed in 2018.
The agreement, which is currently
being negotiated through diplomatic
channels with Qatar, aims to
liberalize trade in services between
the two countries and mutually increase
market entry and investment
opportunities for service providers
operating in electronic commerce.
The agreement, which also aims to
strengthen cooperation in regulations
related to e-commerce, is expected
to provide various advantages
to the Turkish business community
in areas ranging from trade in goods
to telecommunications services.
At the same time, the domestic approval
process in Lebanon is awaiting
for the FTA between Türkiye
and Lebanon to enter into force.
This agreement aims to abolish
customs duties applied on mutual
industrial products.
In addition, the domestic approval
processes of the Türkiye-Sudan
Trade and Economic Partnership
period, according to the Machinery
Exporters Association (MAİB).
The decline of 2.2 percent compared
to the same period last year
was calculated as 0.9 percent for the
exports in the previous 12 months,
which reached $27.8 billion.
Achieving an increase of 10.4 percent
in July compared to the same
month of the previous year, the sector
closed the gap arising from the
decline in June with this recovery.
“In an environment where elections,
climate-related crises, and
frequently violent conflicts increase
uncertainties, it is natural to be
concerned about recession as the
expected interest rate cuts by central
banks are delayed,” MAİB President
Kutlu Karavelioğlu said.
In this period of global recession
concerns, machinery manufacturers,
which approached the previous
year’s data, increased their
average exports per kilogram to
$7.4, fivefold higher than Türkiye’s
Agreement are ongoing in Türkiye.
With this agreement, it is expected
that Sudan will initially reduce its
existing customs duties to 30% and
gradually eliminate them. It is also
foreseen that Türkiye will benefit
from more advantageous entry
conditions for its agricultural and
industrial products in the Sudanese
market.
The agreement, which also covers
capacity-building and technical
support issues for Sudan, is expected
to contribute to the continued
increase of Turkish investments in
Sudan. The agreement also aims to
boost bilateral trade volume to $10
billion.
In line with the country’s trade policy
priorities, it is aimed to expand
these networks of agreements. In
this context, FTA negotiations with
Japan, Indonesia and the Gulf Cooperation
Council (GCC) are ongoing.
Technical-level talks continue regarding
the Economic Partnership
Agreement negotiations with Japan.
Technical discussions are also being
held to resume the fifth round
of the Türkiye-Indonesia Comprehensive
Economic Partnership
Agreement (CEPA) negotiations,
which were initiated in Ankara in
2017 during the visit of Indonesian
President Joko Widodo to Türkiye.
The fourth round of these negotiations
was completed but the fifth
round was postponed due to the
COVID-19 pandemic.
At the same time, the talks for the
FTA between Türkiye and the Gulf
Cooperation Council were initiated
this year in Ankara with the participation
of Trade Minister Ömer
Bolat and GCC Secretary General
Jasem Mohammed al-Budaiwi.
The first round of negotiations has
been completed. The agreement
aims to increase Türkiye’s goods
exports in many sectors, from agriculture
to technology-intensive industrial
products.
All these agreements are expected
to facilitate and strengthen bilateral
trade, thereby contributing to an
increase in trade volume.
Machinery exports reaches $15.8 billion in 7 months
overall average.
“The fact that the decline in Türkiye’s
export was limited to just 0.9
percent over the past 12 months,
despite global interest rates peaking,
is a positive development
and demonstrates our international
competitiveness.” Karavelioğlu
concluded.
After Germany and Russia, the sector
recorded an 11.1 percent increase
in the U.S., which is the largest
export destination.
Turkish exports via railways
surge nearly 13% in Jan-July
period
Continued From Page 1
Uraloğlu also noted that railway
transportation has increased the nation’s
export potential both in terms
of speed and capacity, saying: “We
broke a record by carrying 1.2 million
tons of exports in the first seven
months of 2024, with an increase of
13.2% compared to the same period
last year.”
“Türkiye’s expanding railway transportation
capacity will further increase
export volumes in the coming
years. The exports we carry out
by rail are an important element of
our country’s economic growth,” the
minister said.
“Our goal is to expand these networks
and further strengthen Türkiye’s
strategic role in Europe’s trade
routes.”
Furthermore, he emphasized that
Istanbul and surrounding provinces
play a significant role in railway
transportation, noting that 86% of
total exports, or the equivalent of
more than 1.03 million tons, were
transported from Istanbul and
neighboring provinces.
He also pointed out that export
products from provinces like Izmir,
Eskişehir, Ankara and Sivas are delivered
to Europe, demonstrating
Türkiye’s logistical strength and the
importance of railway transportation
in exports.
Additionally, Uraloğlu highlighted
that railway connections that ensure
connectivity with Europe provide
substantial economic and environmental
benefits.
Uraloğlu also stressed that with the
operation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars
(BTK) railway line, Türkiye’s role as
a trade bridge between Asia and Europe
has been further strengthened.
He noted that infrastructure improvements
and cooperation agreements
between European and Central
Asian railways have increased
Türkiye’s influence in railways exports.
“At least eight freight trains operating
daily between Türkiye and
Europe ensure uninterrupted trade
with Europe,” he said.
“The leading export items include
automotive parts, textile products,
food, electronics, chemical products,
cement and construction materials.
Thanks to this transportation infrastructure,
we offer not only a cost advantage
but also an environmentally
friendly and sustainable transportation
model,” he added.
Uraloğlu emphasized that railway
transportation stands out as a more
environmentally friendly option and
that it will play a key role in adapting
to the European Green Deal, which
targets greenhouse gas reduction
and competitiveness as well as in
achieving Türkiye’s 2053 net-zero
emission goals.
Türkiye lifts daily gas output from vast Black Sea field to 6 mcm
The volume of the daily natural gas
production in the Black Sea Sakarya gas
field has reached 6 million cubic meters
(mcm), Energy and Natural Resources
Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said.
Speaking at the advisory council
meeting of the ruling Justice and
Development Party (AK Party) in
Zonguldak province, Bayraktar touched
upon the energy advancements in
recent years, explorations in the Black
Sea region and national energy and
mining strategy.
Seeking to curb energy dependence,
Türkiye has boosted its gas and oil
explorations, particularly through the
national strategy it put in force in 2016,
the minister recalled.
“We had done exploration in the Black
Sea in the past. We did six deep sea
drillings in the Black Sea. We said,
‘This time we will explore for this oil
and natural gas with our own ships, our
own engineers, our own technicians,
our own people, our own youth,’” he
noted.
“Türkiye currently has one of the most
advanced fleets in the world, with four
deep-sea drilling ships, Fatih, Yavuz,
Kanuni and Abdülhamid Han, and two
seismic ships. Additionally, 31 ships
are currently continuing their activities
related to this work in Filyos,” said
Bayraktar.
The Sakarya Gas Field off the
northwestern Zonguldak province is
estimated to contain 710 billion cubic
meters (bcm) of gas. The reserve was
gradually discovered in August 2020.
Recalling that nearly two and half to
three years after giving good news of
discovering the gas field on Aug. 21,
2020 they began to bring it onshore, the
minister said, “As of today, the gas we
produce in the Black Sea Sakarya gas
field has reached 6 million cubic meters
per day.”
The current output is meeting the needs
of 2.6 million households, he added.
“Hopefully, we will increase these 6
million cubic meters to 10 million
cubic meters in the first stage, by April,
in the first quarter of 2025,” he said.
The output is aimed to be lifted first to
10 mcm before reaching 40 mcm in the
final phase, enough to supply up to 15
million households.
Furthermore, Bayraktar mentioned
the new floating platform, whose
acquisition was announced by
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was
on its way to Türkiye, adding that they
are forming a “naval base.”
“Our new floating production platform
is currently on its way. If all goes well,
it will arrive in Türkiye by the end of
September and in Filyos by the first half
of 2025,” he explained.
“With this production facility, we will
produce 10 million cubic meters of
gas daily at a location 170 kilometers
(105.63 miles) from the coast for 20
years, and hopefully we will supply this
gas to our homes and businesses.”
Referring to steps Türkiye undertook
to curb the foreign dependence in the
defense industry, Bayraktar further
conveyed the aim to reduce it in the
energy sector as well.
“Türkiye will soon become a country
that provides its own energy with its
dams, hydraulic power plants and
nuclear power plants, and will reduce
its dependence on foreign energy,” said
the minister.
Stating that natural gas studies in
Filyos would continue for 20-25 years,
Bayraktar however said that the Sakarya
Gas Field alone is insufficient and that
this production should be increased.
“Therefore, Türkiye will continue to
have different operations, different
research and studies in the Black Sea,
the Mediterranean, Somalia, Libya, and
many other countries from now on,
God willing.”
Moreover, all these studies are not
limited only to the field of natural gas,
said the minister, touching upon the oil
production. While Türkiye overall was
producing some 36,000 barrels of oil
daily eight years ago, Bayraktar noted
that at present the production from
the Gabar field only was approximately
47,000 barrels.
“Hopefully, we would lift this to 100,000
barrels,” he said.
“With the drilling we will carry out
in Hakkari, Van, the current work we
have done, and the new work we will
carry out in the Black Sea, we will both
increase the existing reserves and,
with new incentives, hopefully, reduce
our dependence on foreign sources
for oil and natural gas,” the minister
concluded.

Minister says
Türkiye emerging
as energy hub in
region
Turkish exports to SCO member
countries up 85% in last 5 years
Continued From Page 1
Highlighting the necessity of a developed
market to become an energy hub, the minister
emphasized that Türkiye already
possesses this, driven by a significantly
high level of consumption.
He further stressed the importance of pipelines
in this endeavor, recalling the TA-
NAP project of 2018 and the TurkStream
project of 2020.
“As a result, the infrastructure — including
natural gas pipelines, international pipelines,
and domestic investments — enables
us to bring gas into Türkiye beyond its
own needs.”
Bayraktar underscored the critical importance
of supplying the surplus gas to neighboring
countries.
“We’ve brought the goods [the gas] to market.
Now, we need an exit. The key players
New rules require sellers to provide authorization
certificates, detailed information
on right of withdrawal, and handwritten
acknowledgment of terms and exceptions
ANKARA – The Turkish Trade Ministry
announced on Friday a new regulation
concerning consumers’ right of withdrawal
from distance sales contracts, allowing
cancellations via text and email on
sellers’ platforms.
The regulation aims to better protect consumers
by mandating that sellers provide
detailed preliminary information, including
mandatory contract content, forms,
terms and exceptions of the right of withdrawal,
and an authorization certificate,
as stated in the official gazette.
The new rules will also require sellers to
share their contact information to facilitate
easier communication.
“The regulation is designed to prevent deception
and protect consumers from being
misled,” the ministry said.
here are Bulgaria and Greece. Especially
with the Bulgarian route, we have the potential
to supply gas across Europe, reaching
Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Macedonia
and Serbia,” he noted.
The sole impediment is the current capacity,
which is only 3.5 billion cubic meters,
he pointed out, noting that the government
is striving to at least double this capacity
in collaboration with Bulgaria.
“It’s not about constructing a new pipeline;
rather, it’s about making investments. How
can we expand this capacity with minimal
investments?”
“Assuming Türkiye’s current gas consumption
stands at 50 billion cubic meters, we
are working on building the infrastructure
to export 15 percent of this volume. Consequently,
the transformation into a hub
has commenced.”
Responding to a question about the commencement
date for production at the Akkuyu
Nuclear Power Plant in the southern
province of Mersin, the minister expressed
a desire to start as soon as possible, while
acknowledging existing challenges.
“There are pieces of equipment awaiting
in Germany, particularly for Akkuyu. Will
the nuclear plant be operational without
these? It will, because Siemens is not the
only manufacturer. However, replacing
these components will take time. Therefore,
we are moving in that direction, though
this may delay our target dates.”
Bayraktar further announced that the new
daily production target for the Sakarya
Gas Field is set at 60 million cubic meters.
If this target is achieved, the gas used in
residential areas across Türkiye could be
sourced entirely from this field.
Türkiye eases regulations on right of withdrawal
for distance sales contracts
Under the new regulation, customers will
be required to handwrite the terms and
exceptions of the right of withdrawal to
ensure they acknowledge these conditions.
Additionally, the regulation grants customers
the right to withdraw from products
that are typically exempt, such as activation
codes.
“An additional period has been defined
to prevent sales without an authorization
certificate. The application process for
authorization certificates has been made
stricter, and revocation has been facilitated
if non-compliance with the regulation
is detected,” the ministry added.
The regulation will take effect on January
1, 2025.
Turkish exports to Shanghai Cooperation Organization
(SCO) member countries have skyrocketed,
increasing 85% over the last five years, according
to an Anadolu Agency fffreport on the eve of the
SCO meeting in Astana.
Accordingly, the exports from Türkiye to these
countries surged from a value of $14.1 billion
(TL 459.3 billion) in 2019 to nearly $26.1 billion
in 2023.
The share of these countries in Türkiye’s overall
exports last year was 10%.
Türkiye’s imports from SCO member countries reached
$106.3 billion last year, around double the
$55.6 billion total in 2019.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and other officials,
including Energy and Natural Resources Minister
Alparslan Bayraktar, Treasury and Finance
Minister Mehmet Şimsek, Trade Minister Ömer
Bolat, and chief advisor on foreign policy and security
to the president, Ambassador Akif Çağatay
Kılıç, are attending summit in the capital of Kazakhstan.
In addition to energy agreements made by the
SCO member states, which control a significant
portion of the world’s natural gas reserves, the benefits
of transportation and infrastructure projects
connecting the countries are also noteworthy.
In this context, Türkiye is participating in China’s
Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project. In addition,
an agreement on a China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan
railway project, which is planned to be built under
the initiative, was signed.
Türkiye’s recent development of political relations
with the SCO member countries, which consist of
nearly half of the world’s population, has brought
about positive commercial and economic repercussions.
The SCO was founded in 2001 with Russia, China
and Central Asian powers and later included India,
Iran and Pakistan. Its latest addition includes
Belarus, which o formally joined the organization
to become its 10th member state. There are two
other observer states, Afghanistan and Mongolia,
and 14 dialogue partners, including Türkiye.
Before Erdoğan visited the summit, the president
had contacts with the countries members, including
his trip to Russia last September. Last year, he
also visited Kazakhstan to attend the 10th summit
of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and Uzbekistan
to attend the 16th Summit of the Economic
Cooperation Organization (ECO).
As part of the prominent visits at the ministerial
level, Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet
Fatih Kacır held contacts in China last year. Later,
Türkiye’s energy and foreign ministers also visited
China and held high-level meetings.
Turkish delegation at the SCO Astana summit has
held multiple talks with other attendees and delegations,
including an inter-delegation meeting
with Russia, a trilateral Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Pakistan
meeting, a delegation meeting with Qatar, in
addition to other ministerial contacts.
Istanbul
welcomes over
8.5M tourists in
first half of year
Continued From Page 1
This figure stood at 7.9 million in the first six months
of last year.
The arrivals to the city registered a steady rise when
looking at the six-month figures, as it had hosted 6.75
million visitors in the same period of 2022, the data
showed.
In June alone, nearly 1.64 million people opted to visit
Istanbul, the data revealed, resulting in a moderate
increase compared to the 1.62 million the city hosted
in the same month of 2023.
Nearly 21.6 million foreigners visited Türkiye between
January and June, according to official data shared
last month, up 10.3% compared to the same period
a year earlier. Combined with the arrivals of Turkish
citizens living abroad, the total arrivals in the six
months reached 26.1 million, according to Culture
and Tourism Ministry data.
The latest figures from Istanbul, as well as recent data
that showed arrivals to the Mediterranean tourist hub
Antalya exceeded 9 million in the first seven months,
keep optimism for achieving new records for one of
the key sectors of the Turkish economy.
Turkish government targets to see arrivals at the 60
million mark at the end of the year, while aiming to
generate $60 billion from tourism revenues.
Of the tourists who arrived in Istanbul in June, 1.58
million came via air, and the remainder, or nearly
56,000 individuals, used seaports.
According to the directorate’s data, 73.39% of those
arriving in the city preferred Istanbul Airport, while
26.51% came via Sabiha Gökçen International
Airport.
Leading the list of arrivals to Istanbul in June were
visitors from Russia with 171,633.
According to the data, they were followed by visitors
from the U.S., with 112,966 and Germany, with
102,559.
Other countries that topped the list with the most arrivals
were Iran, Saudi Arabia, the U.K., France, Uzbekistan,
Iraq and Italy.
Türkiye expects more foreign investments
and sustainable capital inflows in 2025
Continued From Page 1
Programs and incentives implemented
recently have led to international companies
announcing new investments in
Türkiye, and more announcements are
expected soon, the vice president said.
“In this context, we have invited senior
executives from the world’s leading investment
firms to our Investment Advisory
Council meeting, which will be
chaired by our President [Recep Tayyip
Erdoğan] on Sept. 28,” Yılmaz said.
“At this meeting, we will hear the priorities
of multinational investors and ensure
that an international perspective
is reflected in our macro-level policies.
Through these high-level meetings, we
hope that investors from around the
world will make an increasing number
of qualified direct investments in our
country. In an environment where the
global supply chain is being reshaped,
we aim to make Türkiye a higher priority
in the investment decisions of multinational
companies in order to sustainably
reduce the current account deficit.”
A written statement issued after the
meeting said that the council “received
the opinions and evaluations of the
members of the council on the MTP
[Middle Term Program] updated for the
period 2025-2027 in order to produce a
realistic and balanced framework with
internal consistency that can meet the
needs of all segments of society.”
“The work within the framework of the
YOİKK Action Plan, which is determined
in a participatory manner in accordance
with the priorities of the business
community and focuses on improving
investment processes, reducing the
current account deficit, accelerating
the dual transformation, strengthening
the relationship between vocational
training and employment and facilitating
the export of goods and services,
will continue with determination,” the
statement read.
Meanwhile, net inflows of non-resident
capital to Türkiye are expected to
surge in 2025, provided that orthodox
macroeconomic policies are sustained,
the Institute of International Finance
(IIF) said in a recently published report,
providing an optimistic outlook for resurgence
across the vast majority of
emerging markets (EMs) this year.
“Authorities have communicated their
commitment to maintain a tight policy
stance until significant strides are made
in curbing inflation and steering inflation
expectations on a downward trajectory,”
IIF said in the report evaluating
capital flows to emerging economies.
It said tighter macroeconomic policies
helped Türkiye to narrow its current account
deficit to $10.9 billion in the first
quarter of this year, down from $24.6
billion in the same period of last year,
adding those policies attract sizable net
inflows of non-resident capital.
The near-term prospects for net capital
flows to Türkiye hinge on whether resident
and non-resident investors will
find the wider spreads offered by Turkish
assets attractive enough, especially
considering that continued tight, or
even tighter policies will further reduce
the country’s external and internal
vulnerabilities, such as its narrowing
current account deficit and easing inflation,
it added.
Major developing economies are expected
to see net capital inflows this year
rise by nearly a third to $903 billion although
much of that hinges on global
growth holding up, the banking trade
group’s report said.
The 32% net increase is expected to be
mostly driven by a strong recovery in
foreign direct investment (FDI) and by
cash directed at equity portfolios, said
the report by IIF, which covers 25 countries
across emerging markets, including
China, India, Russia and Mexico.
Even as global growth, seen at 3.1% this
year, is forecast to be below the 3.8%
average through 2000-2019, “a global
‘soft landing’ scenario makes for a positive
picture for capital flows to EMs,”
said the report, which was published.
“Global trade has also shown signs of a
modest recovery in the past few months,
driven by a pickup in EM trade volumes.”
Capital flows are a component of a
country’s balance of payments, alongside
the current account balance and
changes in reserves. Non-resident capital
flows consist mostly of foreign
direct investment, as well as portfolio
investments into stocks and bonds.
Net inflows of FDI are projected to
jump to $426 billion in 2024, while net
flows into foreigners’ portfolios could
hit $259 billion, from $161 billion in
2023, as China, a massive source of
outflows over the last two years, modestly
recovers.
The report’s universe includes six economies
each from Emerging Europe,
Latin America and Africa/Middle East,
and seven from Asia.
Across other geographical regions,
robust growth and solid macro fundamentals
will drive a rebound in foreign
capital flows to Asia excluding China.
JPMorgan’s inclusion of India in its benchmark
local currency bond index, which
is due to begin next month, “could
lead to additional inflows into local currency-denominated
government debt
and bring down bond yields, while also
providing some support for the rupee,”
the IIF report said.
FDI outflows from Russia are expected
to continue, but net flows will be positive
in Emerging Europe partly due to an
increase in FDI flows to Hungary.
In Africa and the Middle East, the IIF estimates
$149 billion in net nonresident
capital flows, compared to $115 billion
last year, with net outflows of resident
capital expected to moderate as well.
Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United
Arab Emirates (UAE) should account for
80% of the region’s inflows according
to the report.
The IIF inflow projections to emerging
economies rely on an acceleration in
economic growth from EMs, coupled
with “significant” rate cuts in the developed
economies.
On the Türkiye side, the Washington-based
association said it expects
that wider interest rate spreads will
help the country to attract sufficiently
large capital flows to finance smaller
current account deficits of 2.6% of
gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024,
and 2.2% in 2025, down from 4.2% in
2023.
“We project that such an external financing
scenario will align with a slowdown
in real GDP growth from 4.5% in 2023
to 3.5% in 2024 and further down to
2.5% in 2025,” said the report.
The IIF also forecasts net foreign
borrowing in the form of loans from
non-resident creditors should decline,
reflecting slowing real GDP growth and
weaker credit demand.
The association expects net non-resident
capital inflows to moderate slightly
from $66 billion in 2023 to $62 billion
in 2024, before picking up to $68 billion
in 2025.
“The primary downside risk is a deterioration
in investor sentiment towards
Turkish assets, which could be triggered
by a premature easing of policies or
failure to achieve the projected reduction
in inflation and the current account
deficit,” the report noted.
Türkiye walked away from a period of
lower monetary policy last year as the
central bank embarked on a tightening
drive that lifted its benchmark policy
rate to 50% from 8.5% to rein in inflation.
In its last meeting, it kept the rates
on hold but vowed to tighten further if
the inflation outlook worsens.

Pointing out that open cable tray systems used
in the food industry make significant contributions
to operational efficiency by managing
the energy cabling within the facility in an organized
manner, Ceylan made the following
assessment:
Hygiene and fire resistance
“In addition to hygiene, it is critical that these
systems are fire resistant and can be responded
to quickly in case of fire. In addition, the easy
accessibility of open cable Tray systems allows
cleaning and maintenance operations to be
carried out effectively. As CK Cable Tray Systems,
we carry out special productions for the
food industry, especially for milk processing,
bottling, packaging, brewing facilities and industrial
buildings using conveyor systems.”

The defense and tourism sectors
continue to grow as the
most successful sectors of our
country. However, the healthcare
system has developed at a level
that can compete with world
standards. We should not forget
the achievements of our health
sector, especially during the CO-
VID-19 period. The healthcare
sector is of great importance for
the future of our country and
our stakeholders. This sector not
only provides healthcare services,
but also sets goals to advance
health sciences and develop
health technologies. Efforts are
underway to rise to the top in
the export of high value-added
products based on production
in health technologies. Investments
especially in biotechnology
need to be increased. The
diversity and rapid production
capacity of our country in tissue
production are among the
important achievements. Accelerating
export-oriented investments
will give an additional
impetus to our health sector.
Economic Cooperation: A
Growing Partnership
Economic cooperation is a cornerstone
of Türkiye-Uzbekistan relations.
In recent years, trade volume
between the two countries has seen
substantial growth. In 2023, bilateral
trade reached over $3 billion,
with both nations aiming to increase
this figure to $5 billion in the
coming years. Key sectors contributing
to this growth include textiles,
construction, energy, and tourism.
Türkiye is one of Uzbekistan’s largest
foreign investors, with Turkish
companies playing a significant
role in the country’s infrastructure
development. The construction sector,
in particular, has seen major
Turkish firms involved in the building
of roads, airports, and other
critical infrastructure projects. Additionally,
Uzbekistan’s burgeoning
textile industry has attracted considerable
Turkish investment, further
solidifying the economic ties
between the two nations.
The energy sector is another area of
collaboration, with Turkish companies
investing in Uzbekistan’s
natural gas and renewable energy
projects. This partnership is crucial
for both countries as they seek to
diversify their energy sources and
reduce dependence on traditional
fossil fuels.
Political Relations: A Strategic Alliance
On the political front, Türkiye and
Uzbekistan have forged a strategic
alliance based on shared regional
interests. Both countries are members
of the Organization of Turkic
States, where they collaborate on
various issues related to regional
security, economic development,
and cultural exchange. Türkiye has
consistently supported Uzbekistan’s
initiatives within the organization,
emphasizing the importance of
unity among Turkic-speaking nations.
The political dialogue between the
two nations has been marked by high-level
visits and regular consultations.
In recent years, Turkish President
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev
have met on multiple occasions,
reaffirming their commitment to
deepening bilateral ties. These meetings
have resulted in numerous
agreements covering a wide range
of areas, including defense, trade,
education, and cultural exchange.
Regional and Global Impact
The strengthening of Türkiye-Uzbekistan
relations has significant
implications for the broader Central
Asian region. As Uzbekistan
continues to pursue its ambitious
reform agenda, Türkiye’s support
and investment play a vital role
in facilitating these efforts. This
partnership not only contributes
to Uzbekistan’s economic development
but also enhances Türkiye’s
influence in Central Asia, a region
of growing geopolitical importance.
Moreover, the close ties between
Türkiye and Uzbekistan have the
potential to contribute to regional
stability. Both countries share
a common interest in combating
extremism, promoting peace, and
fostering economic development
in the region. Their cooperation in
these areas aligns with broader international
efforts to address security
challenges and promote sustainable
development.
Looking Ahead: A Promising Future
The future of Türkiye-Uzbekistan
relations looks promising, with
both countries committed to further
strengthening their partnership.
As they continue to deepen
economic ties, enhance political
cooperation, and expand cultural
exchange, Türkiye and Uzbekistan
are well-positioned to play a leading
role in shaping the future of
Central Asia.
In conclusion, the relationship
between Türkiye and Uzbekistan
is a testament to the power of collaboration
and mutual respect. As
they move forward together, both
nations stand to benefit from their
growing partnership, contributing
to regional stability and economic
prosperity in the years to come.
BYD, which leads in electric vehicle
