Welcome to THIS ISSUE OF BBT Monthly
Spring has finally sprung.
Everyone loves this time of year and as racing people don’t we just have that
little more to be excited about!
Many BlueBlood Owners have enjoyed a fruitful August with 5 wins and 6
placings to open the 24/25 Racing Season.
Mondo was a great omen bet, winning stylishly while the Olympics were on.
He’s named after Armand “Mondo” Duplantis who smashed the pole vaulting
World Record just days earlier.
Mondo (the horse) went on to win again 2 weeks later, the 2nd leg of a
BlueBlood’s / Nathan Doyle Double after Deprivation could not have been
more impressive to score first-up on the same card.
Captain Barbossa looked like he’s a horse with a future scoring a dominant
win on debut for the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr yard. He should make
his presence felt over the next couple of months.
Too Much Caviar was far too good at Rosehill recording his 5th City win. He
is such a tough, honest horse who has also placed 7 times in town, a career
which has given his owners a massive thrill with earnings north of the $400k
mark to date.
Be sure to watch David’s Video Wrap to see the highlights of the month.
We still have some shares available in a handful of 2yo’s and a couple of
3yo’s. The horse we are featuring in this issue is a wonderful Capitalist filly
who was floated to Gai and Adrian’s yesterday to commence full training.
Often people wait until our young ones are ready to get serious on the track
which forms the second wave of buying so make sure you don’t miss out!
EXCITING OPPORTUNITY!
Just $2,395 secures you a 2.5% share in this ultra classy Capitalist filly trained
by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
Capitalist has just completed another breakout season at stud finishing in the Top 10 for most
winners. He won a Golden Slipper, Gai and Adrian have won 8 between them... could this be their
9th?
A superb, athletic 2yo, this filly by Capitalist looks like something out of the box. She has just
arrived at Gai and Adrian’s to start her Spring Campaign.
Her Dam, a multiple City winner is a half sister to dual Gr3 winner, Invincible Star. She herself has
a colt by Justify purchased by Gai and Adrian which went through the ring for $1.3m and a Filly by
So You Think on the ground. That’s enough inside info to know you are most likely to have a free
shy at the stumps to see what she can do as a racehorse and it’s only upside from there!
With that knowledge, there is little doubt this filly will sell out fast so don’t delay.
CONNECTIONS CORNER...
The horses are our lifeblood and the Owners are our oxygen, so we thought it would
be a great idea to introduce to you some of the people who make BlueBlood’s the
success it has become to date. In this issue, we meet Ben Longhurst.
How long have you been an Owner with Blueblood Thoroughbreds (BBT)?
I would guess around 4 or 5 years
What got you interested in racing and then ownership?
Always been a keen racing fan since I was young. I actually have a public Greyhound training
and breeding licence. It is very similar to thoroughbreds and BBT is a great way to get into the
more expensive industry at an affordable cost.
How many horses are you involved in currently with BBT?
I think i have shares in around 10 horses at the moment with BBT, I’m from Melb and I actually
enjoy having horses in multiple states with all the best trainers.
What do u look for when you buy into a horse?
I used to think i would be able to pick the best breeding and go for that but after being involved
for sometime. While the best sires and broodmares do help i think its good to just share it
around. Try horses that are bred for all distances and i have been buying into the newer sires in
recent times. But it’s a lottery, the cheaper horses can be just as good as the expensive ones.
Which horses that you've owned with BBT have given you the biggest thrill?
Redeel was nominated for the 1000 Guineas until she unfortunately had a bleeding attack.
Cheerful Legend winning Sat grade at Randwick was fantastic. Vienna Rain ran on Oaks Day in
Melb over the carnival only finishing 3 lengths behind Russian Camelot (Free entry to the
Members during the Carnival was also fantastic). Ready By Design was also a big thrill for us
winning at huge odds and had a good little winning streak a few years ago. But for me any
winner is a thrill.
CONNECTIONS CORNER .
Which race would you most love to win and why?
Melb Cup without a doubt. Just the prestige of it. I’ve been lucky enough to go to the event a lot over the years
and its always a great day. Its a true staying event. Luck/barrier is not so much a factor. Generally the best horse
wins.
Who is your favourite Trainer?
Very bias but love the VIC based trainers. Mick Price and Michael Kent JNR and Peter Moody. Their updates are
always really enjoyable to listen to. Mick Price in particular always makes me laugh cause he is just so honest. In
NSW Nathan Doyle has been a great for our BBT horses and we have had plenty of success with him.
Which jockey would you want on every one of your horses?
Without a doubt James McDonald.
How do you celebrate a nice win by one of your horses?
Depends how much money i had on it LOL. But just a few beers usually. I syndicate some of my shares out and
get plenty of my close friends involved so if we have a winner together it is very exciting.
Do you have a raceday superstition?
Not really but I never bet on my horses now if the track is heavy. Not many horses go on heavy ground.
Are you a punter and if yes do you have a best win story and a hard luck story?
Yes im def a punter. Had so many hard luck stories to many to mention. Had a few good winning stories. Took
Field, Field, Winx ( she was paying $1.20), Field for 30% while on a cricket trip and the quaddie paid $70k in
Adelaide. Put $500 EW on Efficient when he won the Melb Cup and got him at 30/1.
Do you prefer when your horses win by leading all the way or finishing hard over top?
Finishing hard over the top anyday. Nothing better than seeing a Chautauqua, Santa Ana Lane or a Winx coming
from an impossible position. but if its one our BBT horses as long as it's in the finish i dont mind how it runs!
Your favourite Racecourse?
Can’t beat Flemington
What’s the funniest thing you have ever seen in racing?
Don't know if you call it funny but seeing Pride of Jenni get 30-40 lengths in front in last year Queen Elizabeth
was just so enjoyable to see tactics like that dominate the best horses in Australia.
Who is your favourite Sire?
Snitzel and more recently i think Nicconi is a great sire for money he costs
Can you remember your first winner with BBT?
Yep Vienna Rain with Gai Waterhouse. He won 4 races with us which was a great thrill and still probably
underachieved as he had so much talent.
Is there anything you would change about horse racing?
Without getting too political I would love to eventually see an undercover race track where the track conditions
could be governed heavily. It may never happen but I'd like to see that.
What is the best part about being an Owner with BBT?
There is so much that is good about it, you can get into a really well bred horse at an affordable price. Get your
horses trained by the best trainers in Australia, run at all the best tracks. I have even started Breeding horses
with 2 of our broodmares that have retired from racing now. You get constant updates on all the horses on where
they are and what they are doing. I couldn't recommend them more highly to race with BBT.
