TAV, Biesse join hands to set tangible
example of smart manufacturing
Innovative Flat Glass Processing Plant In France’s Treize-Septiers Sets Benchmark
Tout l’Art du Verre and Biesse collaborate to create a state-of-the-art, automated flat
glass processing plant, advancing smart manufacturing.
The ambitious project, led by
Jean-Yves Glumineau, has
resulted in the establishment
of a new flat glass processing plant
located opposite the existing TIV
(Tout l’Intérêt du Vitrage Isolant)
facility in Treize-Septiers, near
Nantes, France. The TAV plant is
characterized by maximum process
automation, aiming to create a Smart
Factory incorporating the latest
industrial automation advancements.
The TAV facility is equipped
with specialized technologies for
various glass processing operations,
including cutting, grinding, polishing,
ceramic printing, enameling, and
tempering. These new machining
capabilities expand the product
range already offered by TIV and
are primarily targeted at interior
designers, furniture manufacturers,
metalworkers, and builders involved
in large façades and glass door and
frame construction.
To assist with the launch of this
project, Glumineau collaborated with
Jean-Louis Piscina, a glass industry
expert with 25 years of experience
in the mirror sector, known for his
proficiency in glass machining and
handling. Recognizing the need for
a technological partner, Glumineau
and Piscina partnered with Biesse,
a company specializing in advanced
machining technologies, connectivity
solutions, and tools for product and
process simulation.
The TAV facility covers an
area of 5,300 square meters,
complementing the existing TIV
plant, which is set to expand from
7,500 to 15,000 square meters by
2018. The design philosophy of the
TAV facility emphasizes streamlined
processes that minimize human
intervention in glass handling,
a principle that aligns with the
operational approach established by
TIV in 2008.
The TAV project, representing a
5 million euro investment, aims to
integrate a wide range of skills and
optimize machine performance
through continuous automation.
The solutions developed by
Intermac provide transparency in
production, enabling operators to
monitor efficiency levels in real time.
Automation significantly reduces
manual intervention and the risk of
errors, resulting in nearly flawless
production output.
A key feature of the TAV project
is the Batch-One process, which
allows for rapid adaptation of
production to align with changing
consumer trends. This capability
enhances the facility’s flexibility
and responsiveness to market
needs. The successful coordination
of machinery without operator
intervention marks a significant
achievement in the pursuit of a fully
automated production environment,
as confirmed by Piscina.
