CHAIRMANS NOTE
I am delighted to welcome you all to our 2024
Templeogue Synge Street Mini All Ireland.
Since starting the Mini All Ireland competition
in 2015, it has grown from strength to
strength every year. This festival of football
is now the highlight of our youngest juvenile
section club calendar. It’s a great opportunity
to showcase the fantastic determination and
talent of all our boys and girls, not to mention
a great social occasion for parents and family
to mix with parents, family and friends from
other age groups. Most importantly, the
Annual Mini All Ireland brings a huge section
of our club together and builds great
excitement among all the boys and girls
playing.
This week we will have over 750 children from
the club take part in the Mini-All Ireland
tournament in the VEC Grounds. This is a new
record participation level and to see the
enthusiasm, fun and in no small way the skill
of these children shows the future is bright
for many years to come. I would like to thank
all the committee involved in the organisation
of this tournament. It has been a massive
effort to make this happen and run smoothly
and I would also like to thank the wives,
husbands, partners and family that afforded
them the time to make it happen. I would also
like to thank Darren and Ken in the VEC for
their help and support.
I would also like to thank our four Main
Sponsors Capital Credit Union, The Two
Sisters, Parts for Cars and Park Financial
Mortgages, for their very kind sponsorship of
the event. Their support is very much
appreciated, and we look forward to working
together for many years to come. We ask our
club members to remember our sponsors
when making a choice, the relationships are
appreciated and should work both ways.
There have been great strides taken again in
our juvenile section under the stewardship of
Kevin O Donovan and Kate Timmons.
Our Academies in both Bushy Park and
Dolphin Park are both thriving and Saturday
mornings in both locations buzz with the
excitement of hundreds of budding
footballers getting their first taste of
football. We have large numbers in all our
underage teams in both boys and girls and are
competing with the top clubs in the county.
Templeogue Synge Street GAA Club is 25 years
old this year! Officially formed in late 1999,
most teams played their first games in 2000.
Over the next 12 months we will be
celebrating that 25-year milestone. It’s a
significant achievement and there will be
events organised to mark this. We hope to
make those events an enjoyable way to
celebrate this birthday for newer members,
older members and indeed former members.
Details of these event will be published as
soon as they are firm.
Our Adult teams are also performing very
well. At the time of writing our women’s 1 st
team have qualified for the semi-final of their
Championship and our men’s 1 st team
achieved League promotion and a
Championship Quarter finals place has been
secured. Keep an eye on Clubzap and our
social media channels for fixtures for both
ladies and men’s. Please come out to support
the teams and let our younger players see
the thrills and spills of adult football. Seeing
is believing and every young footballer needs
somebody to look up to.
Finally I would like to thank Niall Scully,
Lorcan O’Dell and Killian O’Gara for their
efforts with the Dubs Men’s senior team this
year. Despite not lifting Sam Maguire this
year, we are aware the preparation for inter
county football involves enormous personal
effort and sacrifice. I have no doubt we are
watching some of the Dubs stars of the future
(men and women) in our Mini All Ireland this
week.

OUR CLUB

GROWING NUMBERS AND
DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
Templeogue Synge Street GAA Club is the Gaelic football home of almost 2,000 active members
and growing. Covering the areas of Dublin 2, 6, 6w, 8 and 12, we have juvenile members coming
from almost 20 different schools, 14 different parishes, and an age profile of members from 4
years old to c. 90 years old.
Templeogue Synge Street GAA club will be 25 years old next year! TSS was founded in 1999
following the merger of Synge Street Past Pupils Gaelic Football Club (founded in 1945) and
Templeogue GAA Club (founded in 1976). In the merger, the traditions of both clubs were
embraced, in the club’s name, the jersey colours, the crest, the history of players, but most
importantly the ethos of encouraging young and old to participate and enjoy Gaelic football and
all that goes with it.Our numbers have mushroomed in the last 12 years, with GAA being very
popular following the success of both Dublin senior men’s and Dublin senior ladies’ teams. Our
club has more than doubled in size in that period. The other secret to our success is the team of
wonderful Games Promotion Officers and Volunteers that run teams and the academy and the
fabulous parents who bring their budding superstars along each week to take part in a sport that
will hopefully be with them for life.
We know that to compete with other sports and other GAA clubs we must improve our facilities.
We own Dolphin Park, located on the Crumlin Road beside Loreto School, which is a wonderful
facility but needs modernisation to be used to its maximum potential. While we also would like to
develop facilities in Dublin 6, this is something that will take longer as we do not own land in D6
yet. Dolphin Park is the used mainly by our older juvenile section and adult section, but some
younger teams are starting to make more regular appearances in Dolphin Park. It currently
consists of 2 Full Sized Pitches with Juvenile cross-pitches and training areas. Bushy Park and
the VEC is the main ground for our younger underage section, and we also play matches in the
VEC grounds, both wonderful facilities.
One of the biggest challenges for the club each year is to find training facilities for the darker
winter months, (Oct to March), when floodlighting is needed to make evening training possible.
With the huge numbers in each age group needing more space as the players get older, some of
the facilities we use currently will be stretched to accommodate teams in the future.
Despite being refused planning permission in 2023 to install floodlights in Dolphin Park we met
Dublin City Council, applied again and were granted planning permission in 2024, only to be
appealed to An Bord Pleanala by one (only one) of neighbours beside Dolphin Park. We still
expect An Bord Pleanala to uphold the Council’s decision and grant planning permission and we
hope to have that decision in 2024. The plan will include upgraded changing facilities suitable for
men and women, a new gym, meeting rooms and other ancillary facilities. We will get Lotto grant
funding, (application made), but that won’t cover the entire cost of development. This will be a
club effort, and your financial support will be needed to make this project a success for the
benefit of players for years to come.I look forward to talking to you on that matter when we have
Planning Permission granted, but this week our focus is fun and football. Enjoy the week!

TIPS FOR THE WEEK
As you can imagine, the logistics of moving 750 children, their parents,
mentors, families and food concessions in and out of the VEC each day is a
huge challenge. As such, we would really appreciate your support and
cooperation by noting the following:-

ROLE OF THE GPO
What is a GPO?
Many people will be aware their child
learns to play Gaelic football in their
early years in school. The local clubs
employ a Games Promotion Officer (part
funded by the GAA) for the schools in
their designated geographical areas. This
allows the schools to avail of a free
resource to encourage and coach children
to play GAA, whether they are members of
the club or not.
TSSS GPO Team
TSSGFC have been very fortunate in the
GPO’s they have worked with and are
extremely lucky to have Kevin O’Donovan
in the role for the past seven years -
unlucky for some, not us Kevin!
He works extensively with our schools,
academies and camps on top of
supporting the club’s own mentors and
players. At this point more than half of
our Juvenile members, boys and girls, will
have come through Kevin’s guidance, he
has been fundamental to the rise in
popularity within these age groups.
Aside from his knowledge and ability to
develop skills among our players, he is
also very approachable and happy to talk
to parents whose children are interested
in becoming involved in Gaelic football.
This time last year, Kate Timmons started
with us as GPO for D8 and D12. Kate is
based in Dolphin Park Academy each Sat
from 11:30 - 12:30 and has brought a
wealth of skill, knowledge and fun to the
kids. Happy 1st TSS Anniversary Kate!
Role of GPO
Below is a summary list to highlight the
extent of Kevin and Kate’s involvement and
impact in the club:

So as you can appreciate it’s a pretty busy
role. Our GPOs are always the first to
defer their success to all the parents and
mentors who volunteer to make what they
do possible. The club is its members and
the more the parents get involved, the
more the children enjoy it.

Here’s an update on progress made
throughout this year as TSS Games
Promotion officer.
ACADEMY
Our TSS Boys and Girls Academy is held in
Bushy Park every Saturday morning at
10.00am to 12.00am. Our recruitment
drive for our 4 to 7 year olds remains our
priority and the goals are simple –
enjoyment, participation and basic skills.
Feel free to drop by next Saturday and
check out the fun!!
A number of people continue to provide
invaluable support to me every Saturday
morning at the Academy with Frank
Deasy, Roisin McGarry, Liz Upton and
Caroline Rodgers working alongside me
doing trojan work.
As the number of boys and girls taking
part increases, we aim to keep them with
their own age group for example our 2018
group are looked after by Dave Costello,
Emmet Gleeson, Danielle Glynn, Anne
Donnelly and Cillian Meldon with
other parents providing mentoring
assistance in the academy on a weekly
basis.
The youngest players in the Academy
group are our 2019/2020 children. We are
focused on recruitment of new players
whilst also coaching and developing the
children’s GAA Skills for the future.
As an extension of our academy, we have
two squads for Boys and Girls that is
made up of
entirely U/7 (2017) players. These teams
are run by Aoibheann Coffey and Caitriona
Mhic
Gabhann. We are training every Saturday
morning and planning to roll them out for
next
year's U8s Team. We organised a
few friendly matches throughout the year
that went down a
treat with the children and parents alike.

Although we are at an early stage with this
team, they have great potential and if they are
anything like the current U8s team they have a
bright future with plenty of players to choose
from. As a club we have great numbers at
Juvenile level our search for new players and
mentors never ceases and I would encourage
anybody who has an interest in helping to
please contact me.
The TSS Easter and Summer camps continue
to go from strength to strength with over 270
children participating in the Kellogg’s Camp in
August it was a great success. I would like to
thank all the coaches who did a great job and
a special mention to Frank Deasy, Sean
McKiernan, Kate Timmons and Brian Kelly
along with the Teachers from the local
schools
that made the camp a very enjoyable one.
SCHOOLS
Our strong club/school links continue to be
one of our key assets. We are very lucky to
have such a strong relationship with all the
schools in our catchment area. The principals
and teachers help us greatly in promoting our
games and our club at every opportunity with
the boys and girls from TSS representing the
club very well in this year's Cuman na
Mbunscoil competition. A key part of my role
as GPO is to continue to build on these already
well-established relationships, visiting the
schools on a daily basis providing coaching at
all age groups and encouraging them to join us
in TSS.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank
everyone in the club for their continued
support and also a very big thank you to the
Principals and teachers in the local schools.

GPO Kate Timmons, is looking forward to seeing all our
players from Dublin 6, 8 and 12 schools in Dolphin!
I'm really looking forward to getting the Dolphin Academy started again this year.
The support from the local schools and teachers is really appreciated. Each time I
go into the schools, they are always welcoming and helpful. Without the help of
the TSS coaches each Saturday morning, there would be no academy! I really
appreciate the time given up by each coach to help the kids learn and develop their
skills, while also having fun. Last year, I had the help of some of the players from
the U16 and Minor boys teams. The kids really enjoyed their coaching and it was
super to have them down every Saturday. The parents and the kids involved in the
academy have been brilliant so far and I'm sure we will have another great year. I
hope the academy will continue to grow this year! If anyone would like to get
involved, don't be afraid to get in touch!

BLUE PANTHER GOLF SCRAMBLE
The 2nd Annual Blue Panther Scramble took place in May this year in Grange Golf Club. 20+ fourballs
took part, the weather was good and there were plenty of legs on show! (Seen better legs hanging out of
a nest someone said....) A great day to get some fresh air, meet up with friends and remember our friend
Anton O’Toole. Kevin Moran contributed some memories of those Dublin days with Anton to the

7TH TSS CYCLE
Comhghairdeas leis na 66 finscéal who took part in the 7th TSS Cycle on Sunday
1st Sep. Two groups tackled the 100k and 50k routes.
Spirits were high from the outset and lasted the duration, as everyone survived the
challenge and made it home safely. Thank you all for taking part!
Congratulations to Club member Eamonn Spillane - our main organiser - for
another perfectly excuted event!

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF
LGFA: A GOLDEN JUBILEE

This year, the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) proudly
celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Since its founding in 1974 at Hayes’ Hotel in Thurles, the LGFA has been
a beacon of community spirit, promoting women’s Gaelic games across
the region. This Golden Jubilee is a testament to the dedication,
passion, and hard work of everyone involved over the past five
decades. This culminated recently where the sport of Ladies Gaelic
Football was one of four practices granted formal State recognition as
part of Ireland’s living cultural heritage.
This hard work has seen a monumental increase in recent years of the
numbers of girls and women playing Gaelic across the country.
Templeogue Synge Street now have 700 female players togging out on
a weekly basis.
Events
In order to mark its 50th anniversary the LGFA held a celebration of the
organisation’s first 50 years in Semple Stadium during July.
However, closer to home, 18 of our own U13 Girls team took part in a
Dublin -wide festival of football celebrating the LGFA 50th anniversary
held in August. The blitz took place at the GAA’s National Games
Developments Centre in Abbottstown, where they played and won all
their matches against St Margarets, Kevin’s/Killians and Na Gaeil Óg.
The team had a fantastic day at the blitz with the players showing that
they can complete with the best teams in Dublin.

Looking forward ...
As the LGFA celebrates this remarkable milestone, it is also looking
ahead to the future. Plans are in place for new facilities, expanded
youth programs, and initiatives to promote inclusivity and diversity
within the sport. The association is committed to building on its
legacy and continuing to be a pillar of the community for many years
to come.

With over 730 child participants and their guardians, here’s what we are
doing to encourage sustainability:
All participants are encouraged to walk or travel sustainably to the event thereby
reducing C02 emissions (TSSGFC have previously provided bicycle parking to ETB
grounds)
Branded cotton T-shirts are provided for reuse by children (and mentors!)
Locally sponsored food and beverage catering, avoids unnecessary travel
Materials for event are fed back to the Juvenile teams for reuse (cones/poles etc)
Flags and other promotional material are kept for reuse after each MAI event
We work with ETB staff to reduce or recycle waste
2022 event saw gear swap event grow to all week event (Families brought and
exchanged sports gear/boots/jerseys free of charge) Visit our “Gear Grab n Go” this
year
Event occurs primarily before floodlights are required thereby reducing unnecessary
energy consumption
Water tap provided on site by ETB to reduce necessity for plastic bottle purchase.

BOYS
We are lucky to have a great bunch of lads involved in our young group.
We regularly have approximately 60 boys who attend our training
sessions and a similar number for our GoGames matches.
We’re really grateful that we have a fantastic selection of coaches who
are all keen to provide a supportive, positive and fun atmosphere to
our sessions. We’re also fortunate to have a great group of supportive
parents who get their lads out to us in strong numbers on a
regular basis.
We are open and welcoming to any new players and we recognise that
for some children (and parents) joining a new group can be a cause for
some anxiety. To help with this, we recognise that we have a broad
spectrum of abilities in our group and feel that we have good
structures in place to cater for players of every ability. For more

Summer time training for our 2016 Boys is on Tuesday evening in the
VEC ground at 6:30pm. GoGames are scheduled for Saturday mornings

GIRLS
Having graduated from the TSS Academy at the turn of the year, the
2016 (U8) Girls have progressed to the GO Games format in 2024. As
coaches, we can all agree that the girls growing enthusiasm for the
game has delighted us as the year went on.
Our numbers increased steadily throughout the year and we loved
welcoming new faces to the group. We are excited about the
upcoming year and have lots of plans as to how we can make it fun
for the group. We would also encourage any parents who are
interested in helping to come forward as we always need a little
help. Our aim is to ensure the girls have fun, stay engaged and to
introduce the wonderful skills of Gaelic Football.
We currently train on Wednesday evenings from 6.30 to 7.30pm. Our
training sessions are made up of player development skills with the
young player in mind along with a strong focus on fun games and
activities, ensuring that the girls leave each week with a smile on
their face!

BOYS
The 2015 boys group (U9s) had a great year of fun filled enjoyable
training and matches during their second year of Go Games at
under 9s level. The boys always bring fantastic energy and
enthusiasm to every session that they take part in and their skill
development has been second to none. We also have a very
committed mentor group who always show up hail rain or shine
ready for action! A big thanks also to our sponsor Grandbrind who
kindly sponsored jerseys for the boys when they started out in Go
Games.
We have 65 boys registered with the group and training and match
numbers are very consistent. Our training slot is a Thursday
evening (6-7 in VEC grounds) and matches are on a Saturday
morning.
We are always on the lookout for new talent so if your son would

We know the boys will be thinking of their friend Michael Horgan
as they tog-out this week.. Michael’s anniversary is coming up
shortly and he and his parents are in all of our thoughts ..

GIRLS
Now that our first year of Go Games are under our belts the group of 2015
Girls have embraced the challenges of U10 football!!! The group continue to
impress us with their willingness to learn whilst not forgetting to have fun
and test our resolve!!!
Although our numbers are still increasing, we are always delighted to
welcome new members to our team. We currently train locally on Monday
evenings from 6 to 7pm. Our training sessions continue to be made up of
player development skills with the young player
in mind along with a strong focus on enjoyment. Our Games take place every
2nd Sunday of the season at 10am with next years games moving to
Saturday afternoons.

Off the field, we held 2 annual events since last year’s MAI. Our Christmas
Party was kindly hosted by our friends at the Two Sisters when a fantastic
spread of “Pizza and Chips” was put on for the girls! During this event we
presented each player (and coach) with their TSS branded training tops
which were kindly sponsored by Griffin Solicitors of Templeogue. For our
Summer party we held a fun packed afternoon at Terenure Rugby Club in
Lakelands. The girls enjoyed the opportunity to repay their coaches for a
long season with some Pie Throwing that left all in need of a good feed and
refreshments at the BBQ that followed!

BOYS
With a squad of over 60 players, our 2014 boys’ team is one of the largest in the club (and
probably the loudest too!) The 2014s boys train and play home matches from VEC
Sportsgrounds and Terenure Sports Club (CYM), and are expertly coached by twenty-eight
dedicated mentors.
2024 has seen fantastic progression across all of our players – attendances at training
each week is always high, which ensures that our players go into Go-Games well prepared,
and full of enthusiasm! It’s fantastic to see life-long friendships being forged across our
players (who hail from Terenure, Templeogue, Crumlin, Harolds Cross, Rathgar, Ranelagh,
Ballyroan, Walkinstown and Greenhills) through the medium of Gaelic football.
There are so many highlights from this season - our team trip to Seneschalstown GAA Club
(Co. Meath), the end of season ‘Pizza and Penalties’ night, as well as countless great
performances home and away. We can’t wait to see what the year ahead brings!

GIRLS
MAI 2024 - bring it on! - it's always a highlight of our year.
Our 53 girls have been really busy this year keeping the fun, football and
friendships going. We train each Monday night from 7-8pm. In summer time
on the lovely grass pitches in Terenure College; in winter time on the great
all weather facility in Three Rock Rovers.
This year the girls have really been upping their game in their matches.
They give their training their all - each week its a close run contest for the
much coveted Trainer of the Week trophy.
We wrapped up our summer season with a great away day. Big thanks to
Naomh Éanna in Gorey who hosted us for a fun football blitz, followed by
lots of adventure in Pirates Cove.
A special mention goes to the very dedicated crew of coaches who are there
every week for the girls. New players are always welcome - just give a call

BOYS
U11 Boys had another great year of training, matches, friendship and
fun. We have over 50 players and were delighted to welcome new
players again to the growing squad!
This year our group had four teams competing in Go Games across
Dublin. They have done really well in their matches continuing to
improve their skills and teamwork making their coaches very proud!
There have been lots of highlights to the year – our Christmas Jumpzone
Party, trip to Croke Park to see Dublin vs Kerry, end of Summer BBQ as
well the great performances home and away. We look forward to
another great year!

but can she break a tackle and send the ball over the bar on the
run? Well she probably could, knowing her, but not with
the style of the TSS U11 girls!
We currently have over 50 girls in the group and they are a great
bunch that really bring a lot of energy and fun to the football
pitch.
We train on Monday evenings at 6pm (currently in Bushy Park)
and matches are every second Saturday during the school term.

SWIFTIES ON THE PITCH!

BOYS
Seems like only yesterday our under 12 boys were playing their first Mini
All- Ireland and here we are at our last one. We’ll miss this great
tournament that was always a week to look forward to.
Of course while we say goodbye to that, we move on to our next phase of
development and have started our competitive matches. While finding our
feet, there have certainly been no easy matches but the boys are
progressing well and really can turn it on at throw in. They’re a pleasure to
coach and very rewarding for us to see how they’ve improved - no doubt for
parents also!!. Keep it going lads- we think you’re all great!

ON AND UPWARDS BOYS!

U12
GIRLS
We cannot believe this is our last Mini All Ireland! Since the last one we have been busy.
We returned to training last August and played matches every second Saturday.
It is not ALL about the football in the U12s. Minions, bananas and zombies (amongst
others!) enjoyed welly throwing and tug of war competitions at our Halloween training
session. The U12s headed to Donaghnore Ashbourne GAA in November to play some great
football to finish our 2023 season. We stopped in Leisureplex for bowling and claw
machines before heading home with our selection boxes.
In January 2024, things changed up a little bit and we started to play in divisions. We got to
play some great teams across Dublin from Skerries to Saggart to Dalkey. Training was
great craic with rocking tunes to get the blood pumping and the girls dancing! In April,
under Lorraine’s guidance we trained for the Deer Park Run in June. Before the summer
break we played a friendly match derby with our neighbours from St. Jude’s.
The girls and mentors alike look forward to Tuesday evenings for training sessions. The
girls do not all attend the same schools, most of them are now in 6th class and some have
even entered 1 st year. The friendship and fun are a constant. To say the mentors are proud
of them is an understatement. We have watched them grow and as they become young
women we hope they continue to play together, have fun, develop their skills and make
friends for life.
We train on Tuesdays from 7-8pm in Terenure College from April to mid-October and from
6-7pm in St. Mary’s Rathmines, from mid-October to the end of March. Matches are every
