are — taking swimming<br />

Sioux Center School District.<br />

“That’s where I gained my<br />

love for swimming. Then I<br />

joined the swim team and<br />

became a lifeguard, now I’m<br />

teaching — have fun, listen<br />

and learn. I want students to<br />

wan to come to swim lessons,<br />

not dislike coming,<br />

because I want them to<br />

enjoy swimming maybe<br />

even more than I did.”<br />

This is Koopmans’ fifth<br />

year as a lifeguard and swimming<br />

le sons instructor.<br />

“It fits with my major in<br />

that I have to make le son<br />

plans for elementary age<br />

kids but I also ge to connect<br />

with elementary kids in<br />

a di ferent way than jus the<br />

cla sr om se ting,” she said.<br />

“I also wan to instruct<br />

because it’s a way to help<br />

I enjoyed so much as a kid.”<br />

This officer will be a visible role model specifically for the Sioux<br />

Center Christian School while maintaining a positive presence.<br />

The SRO will use a multi-faceted law enforcement approach<br />

while fulfilling additional roles such as teacher, counselor, and<br />

mentor. Additionally, this position provides an opportunity<br />

for them to build positive relationships with students, staff,<br />

and parents while enforcing laws to promote a safe learning<br />

environment.<br />

When school is not in session, the SRO will assist with patrol<br />

duties as well as Code Enforcement for the Sioux Center Police<br />

Department.<br />

Legal Assistant<br />

The Plymouth County Attorney’s Office is an equal opportunity<br />

County Attorney’s Office prosecutes all State criminal offenses,<br />

handles all juvenile court cases, mental health and substance<br />

abuse committals, serves as general legal counsel to Plymouth<br />

County, provides advocacy on behalf of victims, and works to<br />

protect the public’s rights and provide justice.<br />

Well qualified candidates would have one or more of the following<br />

qualifications: some law office experience; a legal assistant or<br />

paralegal degree; a four-year degree in criminal justice, business<br />

administration, or a related field; or substantial experience in a<br />

related office environment.<br />

A legal assistant in the Plymouth County Attorney’s office will<br />

work in a professional work environment and interact with<br />

attorneys, the public, law enforcement, Judges, court staff and<br />

other justice partners. Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft<br />

Word, Outlook, and document templates is required. Experience<br />

working with Microsoft Excel and with electronic records<br />

management systems and/or data bases is preferred. A legal<br />

assistant will spend a majority of their time drafting legal<br />

documents, electronically filing documents, working with<br />

documents in a database, and preparing cases for prosecution.<br />

Legal assistants also work with staff attorneys directly on cases,<br />

interact with victims, and witnesses, and occasionally attend<br />

court proceedings with the prosecuting attorneys. Starting salary<br />

will be between $42,000 and $52,000 per year depending on<br />

qualifications and experience. Benefits include health insurance,<br />

IPERS pension plan, paid vacation, and sick leave.<br />
