Commodore

Sophie Sharp “Time Out”

I’m very excited and honoured to be this year’s Commodore

of the 49 th Interclub Bay Cruise. For my family it will be our

9 th Cruise and a week look forward to every year. It is a

wonderful week of boating, friends, old and new; and fun

in the sun of course.

I have been a boating girl my whole life, growing up with

boats from a 17-foot speed boat to our current boat, a

48-foot Riviera called “Time Out”, and all the fun of the

jet ski “The Hulk”. We have travelled as far north as the

Whitsundays and as far south as Yamba on “Time Out”,

but we love to play in our backyard, Moreton Bay. We like

to explore, swim, and have sharp adventures. Every day is

a great day when you’re out on the water.

As your Commodore my role is to oversee the Cruise

to make sure we have smooth waters when we set sail

in September. This year with the help of the amazing

committee we have an amazing itinerary, some delicious

food, some very supportive sponsors and an amazing

lineup of activities for everyone.

Also, I am excited to say that Sophie’s Cooking Class by

Sophie’s Catering is returning this year on Sunday afternoon

right before the Commodore’s report. The dish is a surprise,

but don’t worry it’s a delicious surprise.

Hope you all enjoy this year’s Cruise and feel free to come

up and say ‘Hi’ at any time.

Commencing in May 1976, the Interclub Bay Cruise is the largest

and longest running single event held on Moreton Bay. Whether your

preference is sailing or power boating, the Cruise provides a safe and

inexpensive family holiday, with around 50 vessels from boating clubs in

South-East Queensland attending each year.

How the ‘Cruise’ began

In 1976 the late John Hattrick, whilst

Commodore of the Royal Queensland

Yacht Squadron, initiated an annual

bay cruise to promote safe family

boating and goodwill amongst the

boating fraternity.

Almost five decades on, the Interclub

Bay Cruise continues this tradition

with the dedication of a committee of

volunteers representing several yacht

and boating clubs.

Vice

Commodore

Patrick Schmorl “Escapade II”

Hey, all you rock ‘n’ roll Cruisers!

I’m beyond excited to be your Vice Commodore this

year, and to be hitting the water with my family for

our 5 th consecutive Cruise!

This year has been a challenging one especially for our small

business friends, but guess what? We’ve scored 12 rockstar

sponsors and some awesome raffle prizes that should blow

your mind! A big thank you to these generous sponsors and

don’t forget to buy your raffle tickets for the chance to win!

In my role, I’m also cranking up the volume on our talent

quest. Who can forget the unforgettable father-daughter duo

from “Obsession” doing their physie routine? This year, let’s

turn up the heat with some rock n roll dancing, singing, or

any special talent you’ve got. We’re aiming to put Australia’s

Got Talent to shame!

And don’t forget our infamous trivia night! Start flexing those

rock ‘n’ roll trivia muscles and get ready for a night of laughs,

surprises, and serious fun.

Patrick, Harrison, Amelia and (at the back) Mel Schmorl

We’re also bringing back the crowd-favourite Secret Sailor

present-giving. I can’t wait to see what the most popular gift

will be this year — and who will be the first to steal it!

Thanks for giving me the chance to be your Vice Commodore

in 2024. Let’s make it an awesome week on the water, full of

rock ‘n’ roll vibes and unforgettable memories.

Rock on!

Rear

Commodore

Kymberly Moore “Impetuous”

Hello Cruisers!

The countdown is over and it’s time for our favourite holiday

of the year!

I can’t wait to be on the water with everyone, especially our

Junior Cruisers who are going to LOVE what is on the kids’

agenda this year. Our Kids’ Committee has done a fab job

planning all the activities and they’re thrilled to be helping

make The Cruise what it’s famous for — good ol’ family fun.

Has anyone ever heard of a mullet throw competition?

Neither have we! But we’ve got one lined up and it’s going

to be bags of fun and a great opportunity to win some

prizes. For those without a good mullet-throw arm, perhaps

yabby pumping, sand tobogganing, ball games, or craft

could be something fun to get involved in and make some

great life-long friends.

We also have something new this year for our not-so-junior

Cruisers and that’s our Daily Photo Comp. This will be open

to anyone and everyone who has a great photo to share.

Maybe the sunset, perhaps another boat, some friends

having a laugh, or even a good size fish. Our Fishing Comp

Harrison, Gavin, Kymberly and Olivia Moore; (below) “Impetuous”

on again too, so make sure you ‘weigh-in’ your catch with a

photo. I bet we’ll have some stellar entries, and it’s another

fun way to win a prize (even if you’re not a kid). SMS your

photo by 4pm each day to:

Daily Photo – Chloe Sharp “Time Out” 0477 559 931

Fishing – Jeff Hircock “Wayne Douglas” 0450 926 610

2024 will be my family’s 4 th Interclub Bay Cruise, so keep an

eye out for us on our pride and joy, “Impetuous”.

See you soon for happy hour.

The Cruz Nooz, our daily newspaper

Cruz Nooz editors Jo and Craig

Haswell from “Bethaline” have done a

wonderful job of putting together your

daily newspaper — in it you will find the

daily news and planned activities, tide

times, and lots of fun puzzles, quizzes

and activities to keep kids of all ages

entertained, including a colouring-in

competition.

Each morning at 0700hrs we ask our

Junior Cruisers (and parents) to meet

at “Bethaline” (pictured below) to

collect the Cruz Nooz, and then deliver

it by dinghy to all vessels flying the

Interclub Bay Cruise burgee.

It is also customary to ‘pay’ for your

paper — a small bag of lollies is the

going rate.

If you miss out on your newspaper

in the morning, you can still get your

Cruz Nooz from “Bethaline” or on

shore at the evening’s event.

Don’t

forget to

fly your

burgee!

0700 hrs

Here are a few safety tips

when delivering the

Cruz Nooz:

• Don’t rock the boat.

Watch your speed and wash —

or Sarge will be onto you!

• Wear a lifejacket.

if you’re aged 12 and under.

• Be mindful of others.

Give everyone a fair go and

watch out for other ‘traffic’.

Radio Ship

Graeme Sharp “Time Out”

Welcome, fellow Cruisers, especially

our New Cruisers! We’re excited for

another great Cruise as we reconnect

with boating friends, both old and new.

Let’s hope our offerings to the weather

gods have been sufficient for smooth

sailing this week.

This year, “Time Out” will serve as the

Radio Ship, managing and monitoring

all marine radio traffic. We’ll keep you

updated on any programme changes

or important information via VHF

radio channel 77. Please switch your

VHF radio to channel 77 and leave it

on throughout the day for updates.

Tune in each day for our morning

Radio Schedule at 0810hrs for

key information, including weather,

maritime details, flag officer and

Sarge reports, and any Cruise

programme updates.

If you need to leave the Cruise or

deviate from the itinerary, please log on

and off with us to ensure we can track

all participants. If you encounter any

issues, contact us for assistance.

Something new this year is a

WhatsApp group, to advise of any last

minute items instantly. All skippers will

be added to this group. Make sure you

download the app to your phone!

Remember your radio etiquette:

keep VHF Ch 77 clear. If you need

to chat with another Cruiser, switch

to a different channel after contacting

them on 77.

Stop by “Time Out” (pictured left) and

say ‘Hello’!

Sergeant-at-Arms

Katie Hircock “Wayne Douglas”

Sam Hodder “Wind of Change”

Who’s ready to rock ‘n’ roll?

For this year’s Cruise Sam and I are back

in action, on a mission to issue more fines

than ever before.

No excuses this time — no gold coins?

No problem! Just tap that card.

Watch out parents: we’ve got mini-constables

on board ready to keep an eye on things.

Don’t forget your name tags and bring

some tasty lollies.

Let the fine-fest begin!

Sarge Katie ?

DOB IN A TROUBLEMAKER!

Sarge’s SMS Hotline

0420 475 782

Remember the

Sarge’s song:

Hi Ho, Hi Ho,

it’s on the Cruise we go,

If we don’t be good,

like we know we should,

it’s gonna cost us dough!

To our New Cruisers:

Sarge makes an appearance each night at the evening’s event to report on

any ‘law breakers’ that have been dobbed in ... Don’t forget to bring your

cash or cards ashore in case you need to pay a ‘fine’ for any mischief you

may get up to, and remember to wear your name tag!

For all our Cruisers, this is an

opportunity to dress your vessel with

bunting and all it’s finery to Cruise in

procession past the Commodore’s

boat and ‘take your salute’. The fleet

certainly looks impressive as it makes

its way along single-file.

For our New Cruisers, there is

a specific order to follow — The

first vessel is the Vice Commodore

who leads the flotilla followed by any

past Commodores (in order of oldest

serving), then the Committee boats,

and finally the rest of the fleet.

The Rear Commodore (as the name

suggests) is the last boat, at the rear.
