STAND
BOOKINGS
OPEN FOR
EFTTEX
2025
Stand bookings are now
open for EFTTEX
2025 – the only fishing
industry show fully
supported and backed by the
European Fishing Tackle
Trade Association.
Scheduled to take place
from September 10th to 12th
2025 in the Belgian capital,
Brussels, the European Fishing
Tackle Trade Exhibition
(EFTTEX) will be making a
welcome return after a break
this year and there has already
been significant interest.
Early-bird discounts are
available until September
30th but don‘t worry if you
are reading this after that
date as the prices will remain
competitive, especially given
the importance and popularity
of the event over the years.
Janet Doyle, who has also
returned to run the show, said:
“EFTTEX 2025 is happening!
Stand bookings are now open
so please visit www.efttex.
com to view the floorplan and
pricing information.
“As the only fishing tackle
trade show fully supported
and backed by EFTTA, it
makes perfect sense to host it
in Brussels where the trade’s
important lobbying work takes
place.
“Exhibiting at the tradesupported
show is a must if
you want to discover the latest
products and network with
industry leaders.
“Securing a stand at
EFTTEX 2025 will ensure
that you get in front of
qualified buyers, forge valuable
connections and generate new
leads.
“We very much look forward
to welcoming you to Brussels
– don’t hesitate to reach out
if you have any questions via
info@efttex.com .”
Janet is well-known to
the industry, having run
both EFTTEX and EFTTA
for many years, before the
organisation was moved to
Brussels in the wake of Brexit
and the Covid-19 pandemic.
With 19 years of EFTTEX
experience behind her, Janet
is well-placed to relaunch the
industry’s favourite European
trade show and, in a statement
of intent and to inspire
confidence, has confirmed she
has been granted the licence to
run the event for at least the
next three years.
Although some details of
the event next September
are still being worked on,
Janet has promised a string
of cool features to engage
and energise the industry,
encouraging them all to meet
in one place, network, discuss
new products and do valuable
business.
TRADE BACKING
IS VITAL FOR ANY
EVENT
More details are emerging of
what we can expect from
EFTTEX 2025, when it is
held next September in Brussels – with
all the signs that it has been welcomed
with open arms by the industry.
And why would it not be?
After all, it is a popular event in the
industry diary – not just in Europe but
around the world – it’s in a great and
easily accessible location, at a great
time of year and, in Janet Doyle, it has
an organiser who knows everyone and
has huge experience of running the
show.
Perhaps most crucially, though,
while it is not being run by the
European Fishing Tackle Trade
Association itself – which owns the
EFTTEX brand – it does have its full
backing.
Why is this important? Well, you
only need to look at other successful
trade events around the world – not
just in our industry but in many other
allied sectors.
The American Sportfishing
Association runs and is closely
affiliated with the huge ICAST
show, the Japanese Fishing
Tackle Manufacturers Association
( JAFTMA) backs key shows over
there and countless others do similar.
EFTTA – which used to run
EFTTEX via Janet’s Resolutions
company – has quite rightly decided
its most important work at present is
to press on with its work safeguarding
our industry from external threats by
lobbying the European parliament and
pushing for meaningful change.
But the EFTTA board and its
members are firmly behind the
EFTTEX 2025 show – they recognise
it is a key piece in the industry jigsaw
to help all our businesses grow and
secure the future of the sport.
Having an affiliation with the
relevant trade association is so
important. It’s your guarantee of an
event that has the best interests of the
entire industry at heart, a show that
will deliver key connections, great
networking opportunities, education,
business boosts and some fun too.
Some of you may be aware that there
is another trade event which, by the
time you read this, will have taken
place in Budapest in September. At the
time of writing, we don’t know how
that will fare or what the attendance
was like – or, indeed, if the organisers
will wish to repeat the experience next
year.
If they do, it could become a straight
fight for exhibitors for 2025 as few
will have the budget to do two shows.
It’s not an ideal scenario but an
event backed by the trade association
– and working in conjunction
with Tackle Trade World, the oldest
established global B2B publication and
the only one offering both print and
digital coverage for exhibitors – will
give you the confidence that EFTTEX
2025 can deliver for your business.
ARCTICSILVER LANDS IN DENMARK AS IT MARKS 15 YEARS
Norway-based fly tackle and apparel
specialist ArcticSilver is celebrating its
15th anniversary with a new European
headquarters in Denmark and the addition
of key staff and partners.
The EU headquarters marks a fresh
chapter for the brand – best known for its
fly rods and reels including its innovative
Free-Flex and upcoming Switch-Flex
systems – as it expands its reach worldwide.
CEO Katharina Fugger explained: “Our
new headquarters in the EU opens up a
world of possibilities for us. This move is
right in line with our goals to enhance our
presence in Europe and push forward with
innovation in the fly fishing industry. We
can’t wait to see what the future holds for
our team and customers.”
Denmark, with its strong fishing
traditions and innovative spirit, is seen
as the perfect location for the new base,
providing a central hub for European
operations, while helping ArcticSilver
build closer connections with partners and
customers across the continent.
As part of the changes, industry expert
Hanna Bossow Vestergaard has joined as
the CEO for ArcticSilver in Denmark.
With her deep passion and extensive
experience in the fly fishing business,
The American Fly Fishing
Trade Association (AFFTA)
has partnered with Emerger
Strategies to deliver
sustainability education and
resources for its members with
a focus on climate mitigation.
AFFTA represents the
community of fly fishing
businesses aligned around
the sustainable growth of
fly fishing, a commitment to
conservation, and policies that
support a thriving industry.
As a demonstration of
AFFTA’s commitment to
growth, conservation and
political advocacy, the trade
association is adding to its
numerous member benefits
an educational webinar series
focused on sustainability.
Through the AFFTA
Fisheries Fund, AFFTA
recently released the “For
Tomorrow’s Fish: Anglers are
the Key to Climate-Resilient
Fisheries Report”, which
Katharina
Fugger.
“outlines how our changing
climate poses unparalleled
threats to the ocean’s ability
to regulate itself and, by
extension, support healthy and
abundant fisheries.”
As an extension of
the report and AFFTA’s
commitment, it is now
providing their membership
a series of webinars and
educational resources provided
by Emerger Strategies to help
its members measure and
improve their sustainability
performance, such as:
completing a sustainability
assessment, how to measure
its members’ Scope 1 & 2
greenhouse gas emissions and,
perhaps most importantly,
strategies for reducing its
members’ harmful greenhouse
gas emissions.
AFFTA executive director
Lucas Bissett said: “AFFTA is
continuously looking for new
benefits for its members, so
Hanna Bossow
Vestergaard.
Hanna is ready to take our innovative
brand to new heights in the EU.
Hanna said: “I’m honoured to join
ArcticSilver at such a transformative time.
I can’t wait to help the company grow and
bring our innovative products to more fly
fishers across Europe.”
In addition, the company has also
welcomed Kathrin Menges, a former board
member of Henkel and ADIDAS, to its
executive board of directors. Her expertise
will help the young and innovative brand
grow internationally.
Kathrin revealed: “Joining ArcticSilver’s
board is an exciting opportunity. The
company’s dedication to innovation and
sustainability aligns perfectly with my
values and experience.”
It is also partnering with recently
with that in mind, bringing
in Emerger Strategies as a
partner was a logical next step.
“Helping the fly fishing
industry adapt to and mitigate
the effects of climate change
on their businesses is exactly
the type of innovation we
want to foster.”
Emerger Strategies
president, Rick Crawford,
added: “Because fly fishing
guides, retailers, and brands
are solely dependent upon
Kathrin
Menges.
launched specialist distributor Catch Fly
Fishing, which will help with all aspects
of sales within the European Union,
providing a strong distribution network.
A Catch Fly Fishing spokesperson
said: “Our partnership with ArcticSilver
will help us bring high-quality fly fishing
products to a wider market. We’re excited
to work together to achieve great things.”
These strategic additions and
partnerships are key steps in ArcticSilver’s
journey to expand its presence and
continue its legacy of innovation. With
new leadership and a strong distribution
network, ArcticSilver says it is ready to
meet the growing demands of the fly
fishing community.
www.arcticsilvershop.com
Sustainable approach offered to fly fishing
healthy fisheries, and climate
change is the single greatest
threat to our fisheries, it
makes sense for AFFTA
members to demonstrate their
leadership through reducing
the amount of greenhouse
gases they emit. We are proud
to serve the American Fly
Fishing Association and
thrilled to see them lead by
example.”
Mayfly lands tying legend Renzetti
Mayfly Outdoors, the company behind
famous fly fishing brands such as Abel,
Ross Reels, Airflo and Dyna-King
has added vise and accessories legend
Renzetti to its portfolio.
The company, founded 52 years ago by
Andy Renzetti and wife Lily (pictured),
is renowned for offering the best in
fly tying vises, fly tying hand tools,
accessories, rod building equipment and
manufacturing solutions to business.
The Renzetti brand and its
R-Distribution subsidiary have garnered
many awards and accolades from some
of the world’s best tyers but now the duo
feel the time is right to pass the baton
on.
Company president Lily Renzetti
explained: “Quality, innovation, customer
service and staying true to yourself
have been our pillars. It truly has been
a journey of love and commitment.
The longevity of the Renzetti and
R-Distribution brands has been on
continuing and preserving those pillars.
“But as time advances, change is
inevitable and, while we’ve always tried
to balance work and leisure, the former
has dominated, and we feel it’s now
time to shift priority and focus more on
family, friends, and fishing. In doing so
we want to announce that we are passing
the reins and selling the company to
Mayfly Outdoors.”
Lily added: “Our partnership with
Mayfly Outdoors marks an exciting
chapter in our history. In looking at their
journey, we realise they share the same
values as we do and we are confident
that Mayfly Outdoors will carry the
Renzetti legacy forward and continue to
provide our valued customers with the
very best in products and
service.”
Business will continue
as usual, with all
products being made in
the USA under the same
leadership and team as
before.
Lily will remain as
president and general
manager of Renzetti with
her leadership team in
place. Andy will continue
to consult on new
products and innovations
while also pursuing
his other interests and
will carry on as head
of manufacturing and
working with the Mayfly
engineering team.
Jeff Wagner, CEO
of Mayfly Outdoors,
said: “We are excited
and honoured to have
Renzetti join the
Mayfly family. We look
forward to honouring
their history, legacy, innovation and
commitment to the art of fly tying.
“Our goal is to continue the amazing
work they have done and combine it
with our own expertise in manufacturing
and anodising. I know we can learn a lot
from them and their business.
“We thank the Renzetti family and
team for all they have done – and will
continue to do – in fly fishing and fly
tying. It is truly an honour to be working
with them and have this opportunity.”
Lily concluded: “We are so very
grateful to many, including the late
Lefty Kreh, David Whitlock and the
rest of our heritage and The Legacy
Ambassadors for their support, creativity
and desire to share their knowledge,
and who motivated us to create tools to
enhance their fly tying experience.
“[Also] to our authorised retailers
worldwide for their support to the
Renzetti and Just Add H20 brands and
for their commitment to the industry
and to the fly tyers worldwide, whose
consistently evolving creativity abides to
make fly tying the essence of fly fishing.”
PRADCO promotes for the future
PRADCO Fishing has elevated team
members Heather Chaffin, Mark Cowan
and Chad Warner to vice president
status as part of the company’s ongoing
succession planning.
All three are members of the Fishing
division’s leadership team and have
held significant leadership roles at
PRADCO.
Chaffin has been promoted to
Fishing’s vice-president of people and
culture, responsible for recruiting and
retaining talent. She initiated Fishing’s
“Mentoring and Career Development
Program” two years ago to identify and
train team members to be promoted into
key company roles, with an emphasis on
increasing diversity.
Chaffin has previous human resources
experience at Walmart and Tyson Foods
and is in her sixth year at PRADCO.
Cowan has been promoted to vicepresident
of operations for Fishing.
In his 29th year at PRADCO, Cowan
oversees operations in Fort Smith and
Guatemala and is also in charge of the
global supply chain for raw materials and
finished goods.
He started his PRADCO career in
production and worked his way through
the ranks to become executive director of
operations.
Warner is in his ninth year at
PRADCO and has been named Fishing’s
vice-president of brand management.
He personally oversees Fishing’s largest
brands – YUM and BOOYAH. He
also is the direct report for five brand
managers and manages the product
development processes for all Fishing
brands. Warner has previous management
experience at Walgreen’s.
All three report to Bruce Stanton,
Fishing’s vice-president and general
manager, who said: “Heather, Mark
and Chad are all about demonstrating
customer service and having
tremendously positive attitudes about
their work and their lives.
“As we look at the current business
environment, these three are extremely
high performers and have demonstrated
a high commitment to serving others. As
we look to the future, these three are the
leaders we need to continue our growth
and success for the next 10 to 20 years.”
lYrical on Value
UK-based fly tying material
manufacturer Semperfli is
upping the ante on its Classic
Waxed thread, offering a
new range of smaller spools
promising even better value.
Since launching its Classic
Waxed Thread back in 2019, it
has generated a massive global
following but fly tyers have been
demanding smaller spools more
suited to them than the bulk
spools offered until now.
So the company has unveiled
Classic Waxed Thread 110
– allowing it to widen the
selection of colours and sizes
available to those who don’t
need the generously filled bulk
spools.
Semperfli director Ann
Kitchener said: “They like
the idea of a convenient
handy range whilst still giving
tyers the quality, colours and
dependability they are used to.
“Tyers are guaranteed just the
same thread but now available in
a value spool – more affordable
and accessible. With 110 metres
(120 yards) per spool there is
10 per cent more thread than
competitors and at a lower price
of just £2.50, $3.25 (USA) or
€2.95.
“The original 220m (240yd)
spools are still available as
bulk spools for those who need
that bit more! The original
bulk spools are the largest
commercially available spools on
the market for volume fly tyers.
“This drive by Semperfli
further cements its place as
the leading provider of tying
materials.”
Big changes for European
online retail giant
Major changes have been
taking place at what is now
Tackle Group Europe as
the online retailer unveils
a brand new warehouse,
website, products and name.
Formerly Bontrup Media,
the Tackle Group Europe
name has been chosen to
better reflect its Europewide
family of online
retailers.
However, each individual
shop and brand name for
each country will stay the
same, from Visdeal, Fishdeal,
Pechepromo, Fischdeal,
to TackleXL and all other
stores.
The group also confirmed
the same dedication to
keeping customers happy as
ever, providing everything
an angler could need
across multiple countries.
Embracing the latest
technology and an everexpanding
product range,
Tackle Group Europe sees
itself as a big fish that keeps
growing.
The new name and website
will provide the perfect
platform to serve the anglers
of today and tomorrow,
across 11 different countries.
It will offer more tackle
and equipment than ever,
with a huge range of
brands and items offering
unbeatable choice and value,
dedicated to each country
and its fishing techniques
and culture.
Everything it does is based
on its knowledge and passion
for Europe’s amazing fishing
culture, which is unique to
every country.
Alongside its portfolio of
trusted tackle brands, its own
‘Ultimate’ range is also set to
expand, while there are plans
to launch a completely new
tackle brand to offer nextlevel
products.
Enjoying double-digit
annual revenue growth
and a stronger than ever
EU market share, the
future looks bright. While
technology is key, Tackle
Group Europe’s greatest
assets is perhaps its team
of industry-leading experts
who are as passionate about
fishing as they are about
business.
Meanwhile, the new
warehouse and office boosts
its operation further, with an
increased 8,500sq m of space
and automation.
It has even introduced
‘stocklink’ products to
increase customer choice
with tackle held by other
suppliers.
Wildlife group
takes on future
anglers
The US-based conservation
organisation Wildlife Forever has
merged with the Future Angler
Foundation (FAF), which works
to help grow participation in both
fishing and boating.
The merger includes plans for
Wildlife Forever to continue
operating the foundation’s range of
programs and brands.
This includes providing
free fishing equipment and
conservation-themed apparel for
young people to help support
hands-on, family friendly events
that are run by volunteers nationally.
The merged programming will
continue Wildlife Forever’s deep
legacy of engaging youth and
families into conservation through
the arts, fishing, and stewardship
practices surrounding habitat
restoration, catch and release and
invasive species prevention.
CONTINUES TO
GROW AS INDUSTRY
DOES THE SAME
The future of recreational fishing continues to shine at the
sportfishing industry’s largest trade show as ICAST 2024 left a
lasting legacy on anglers for years to come.
Formally known as the
International Convention of
Allied Sportfishing Trades,
ICAST 2024 in Orlando,
Florida, USA, played host to
14,000 attendees, exceeding the previous
year’s total by five per cent.
This year’s growth in attendance also
paid dividends for retailers and buyers,
who got to view the product offerings of
more than 200,000 sq ft of exhibit space
and 635 exhibitors.
In addition to the hundreds of
exhibitors, there were 950 different
brands showcased at ICAST. While
some attendees only had a short drive
home, others headed off to the more
than 75 countries that were represented
at the 2024 show, cementing ICAST as
a global experience for fishing tackle
manufacturers, retailers and media.
The preceding days added more colour
to the event. On the Monday, more than
100 golfers competed in the Lunkers and
Bunkers golf tournament.
The following morning saw another
100 anglers compete in the ICAST
Cup bass fishing tournament presented
by Major League Fishing, while more
than 1,000 retailers and media tested
products at the On The Water Demo
Day sponsored by Garmin outside the
Orange County Convention Center.
Tuesday evening culminated with the
media and retailers checking out the rest
of the 983 products entered to compete
for best of show at the New Products
Showcase Reception.
Best of the best
Pure Fishing took home the sportfishing
The innovative reel beat all the 983
The Fathom Electric was under
development for four years before making
its public debut and taking top honours
at ICAST 2024. This was the first time
a reel had won the Best in Show award
since 2008.
Flying high
Following its success in 2023, organisers
the American Sportfishing Association
(ASA) also brought back the popular
ICAST Fly Shop to spotlight the
growing fly fishing segment of the
industry.
There, attendees could watch fly
casting demonstrations at the adjacent
Flycasting Pond, take fly casting lessons
or scout a selection of products from an
array of manufacturers before deciding
which booths to visit.
This year’s New Product Showcase also
included three new fly fishing product
categories in addition to the six added
last year.
ASA president Glenn Hughes said:
“Coming down from the high of a
successful ICAST, we appreciate all
the exhibitors, sponsors and attendees
for helping make ICAST the greatest
sportfishing trade show in the world.
“It truly is rewarding seeing the
enthusiasm and passion of the exhibitors
and the attendees as they take advantage
of meeting with so many folks from
around the world to learn about new
products and engage with the industry.
“Being our own worst critics, the ASA
team is already working on how we can
make ICAST 2025 event better and
ensure all participants experience a solid
return on their investment.
“ICAST 2025 will be July from
15th to 18th in Orlando. If you are a
manufacturer, don’t wait till the last
minute to reserve your booth and, if
you are an attendee, be sure to register
for the show when we open registration
in February. It will save you time and
money!”
A true legacy
In addition to being the host of ICAST,
ASA also supports the industry through
advocacy and education efforts. Keep
America Fishing, ASA’s advocacy
platform, gives businesses and consumers
the chance to participate in shaping
fisheries policy that directly affects the
sport, waters and fish.
To raise funds for Keep America
Fishing, grow its reach and show ICAST
attendees a good time, ASA partners
hosted the Lunkers and Bunkers golf
tournament that includes fishing on
several holes.
Robert Shamblin of Power Pole led
a team of ASA members to raise over
$20,000 that will be put to use fighting
for clean water, abundant fisheries and
access to both.
Additionally, the ICAST Cup,
produced by Major League Fishing, also
donated all its proceeds to support KAF.
ASA and the Marine Retailers
Association of the Americas (MRAA)
also unveiled a new Education Hub at
this year’s show. The Hub is a memberonly
portal offering 60-plus online sales,
marketing and leadership courses, ICAST
Lunch & Learn content from 2023 and
2024, advocacy information and more.
ASA and MRAA will continue to curate
additional content to support members
and grow the reach of these collective
industries.
SPOTLIGHT ON
LINE
From monofilament and fluorocarbon through to copolymers, braided and fused
lines and more, fishing lines are a vital connection between you and your quarry.
But what dictates your choices?
Since the dawn of mankind, lines
have been used to catch fish,
whether made of silk, braided
horse hair or even cat gut.
But it was only in 1938 that
fishing lines as we know them today
really began to develop, thanks to Du
Pont chemists who invented nylon and, a
year later, introduced braided nylon line.
However, it wasn’t until the 1950s
that the first polyester fishing lines
were produced under the name Dacron,
followed in 1959 by the thinner Stren,
ideal for use on fishing reels.
Today, lines are mostly made of
synthetic materials including nylon,
polyvinylidene fluoride, polyethylene,
copolymers, fluorocarbon and Dacron.
Monofilament
The most common fishing lines are
made from monofilament because of its
strength, availability in all pound-test
ratings and low cost. It is typically made
from a single strand of nylon by melting
and mixing polymers, which are then
extruded through tiny holes, forming
strands that are then spun into spools of
various thicknesses. The extrusion process
controls not only the thickness of the line
but also the test or breaking strain of the
line.
As well as being offered in various
diameters and strengths, monofilament is
also easy to colour.
Fluorocarbon
These lines are made from a type of
plastic that is nearly invisible underwater,
making them ideal for clear water fishing.
They are also resistant to UV light and
abrasion, which adds to their longevity.
Developed in the 1960s, they started
out being used mainly for saltwater
fishing but their near-invisibility soon
made them popular with freshwater
anglers too.
They are also much denser than mono
lines, meaning they’re a good choice if
you need something that sinks quickly.
However, they are also stiff and hard
to control when on a reel, meaning they
don’t cast as well as other lines, don’t
hold knots as well, have low stretch and a
comparatively large diameter.
Although fluorocarbon is made using
the same extrusion process as mono,
it differs at a molecular level, as it is
extruded from polyvinylidene difluoride,
which is far more compact than nylon.
Braid
The braided line market continues to
grow, in part due to braid’s strength and
abrasion resistance.
Made from multiple strands of fibres,
usually polyethylene, braided lines are
known for their high strength and thin
diameter. They are preferred by anglers
who require a line that can withstand
heavy loads and rough conditions. They
also have zero stretch, making them great
for feeling bites and hooking fish quickly,
especially when lure fishing.
They are produced by braiding or
weaving fibres of a man-made material
like Spectra or micro-Dyneema into a
strand of line.
Being abrasion-resistant and with
minimal stretch, they are great for
shy-biting fish, as any contact will be
18 www.tackletradeworld.com
felt directly by the angler while their
suppleness enables them to be cast long
distances.
Unlike mono, they have no memory
and so can last a while in storage.
line
Copolymer lines
Produced by combining at least two
different materials together, the resulting
single filament typically has different
characteristics from traditional monos,
depending on the materials used.
Often stronger yet thinner than
regular monofilament, most offer
less stretch and more memory, not to
mention low visibility.
Fused lines
Made from the same fibres as braided
line but the strands are fused or glued
together while still hot, rather than
being woven together.
Fused lines are exceptionally slick and
thin for their strength, boasting minimal
stretch and high abrasion resistance.
Their thin diameter and incredible
strength make them an ideal choice
when fishing around vegetation or for
skipping baits under boat docks.
Market growth
The fishing line market has been
growing steadily, driven by the increasing
popularity of recreational fishing, rising
disposable incomes and technological
advancements in fishing equipment and
manufacturing processes.
The market is expected to continue
growing in the coming years, with a
focus on innovations that improve
durability, strength and sensitivity of
lines.
It is a global market – everyone needs
fishing line – with key sectors being the
largest angling markets such as North
America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific
regions.
Asia-Pacific is emerging as a fastgrowing
region, driven by rising interest
in recreational fishing in countries like
China, Japan and Australia.
While a number of OEM houses
exists, key brand players include Berkley
(part of Pure Fishing), especially for
monofilament, braided and fluorocarbon
lines.
Sufix (part of the Rapala VMC
Corporation) specialises in braided
and fluorocarbon lines, with a strong
reputation among both professional and
recreational anglers.
Global giant Daiwa also offers a
variety of fishing lines with a focus on
innovation and high performance. The
deal with X-Braid has seen these lines
cross over from the Japanese market to a
global audience, as has J-Braid.
Varivas lines are said to be used by
anglers in over 50 countries around
the world. Despite different fishing
environments and target fish, Varivas
fishing line is widely respected as a
premier, high-performance brand.
Other key manufacturers or names
to look out for include Yao I Fabric,
Sunshine Co, Uniplas, Surecatch,
Maxima, Seaguar, Ultima, Singaporebased
First Dart and Shimano’s Power
Pro brand.
Trends and innovations
There is a growing trend towards ecofriendly
fishing lines, with manufacturers
focusing on biodegradable materials and
reducing the environmental impact of
discarded fishing lines.
The use of high-tech materials
like Spectra and Dyneema in braided
lines has significantly enhanced their
performance, offering higher strength
and sensitivity.
Manufacturers are also offering more
specialised lines tailored for specific
fishing conditions, such as ice fishing,
saltwater and ones tailored towards
individual species.
The rise of e-commerce has made it
easier for anglers to access a wide variety
of fishing lines, with many manufacturers
offering direct-to-consumer sales.
However, fishing lines, particularly
non-biodegradable types, contribute
to pollution in aquatic environments.
Addressing this issue is a challenge for
the industry but there are organisations,
such as the UK-based Anglers National
Line Recycling Scheme (ANLRS),
which collects used and discarded fishing
line and turns it into new products,
including rod stands and sunglasses.
The market is highly competitive,
with numerous brands vying for market
share. This leads to constant pressure on
pricing and innovation.
Analysts predict the fishing line
market is expected to grow steadily,
with innovation in materials and
sustainability practices playing a key role
in shaping the future of the industry.
Increased participation in recreational
fishing, particularly among younger
demographics, is likely to drive further
demand.
The market’s trajectory will also
depend on regulatory developments
concerning environmental protection and
the availability of raw materials used in
line production.
DAIWA
SAMURAi 8 BRAiD
With eight exceptional microfilaments meticulously woven together
to create a superior finished product, it is exceptionally narrow for its
rated strength and very durable, too.
Daiwa also added a performance coating to Samurai 8 Braid to
maximise casting distance and reduce line noise as there is so little
friction as it passes through the guides.
This also means the braid can sink faster – perfect for getting the
most out of your crankbaits, keeping lures and rigs pinned to the
bottom, and tightening the tether to smaller baits because there’s
less bowing in the line.
Samurai 8 Braid is available in nine weights and two spool sizes –
165 yard and 330 yard.
TRIANGLE SPORT
CHUCK ASSeMBlY
The introduction of this chuck assembly at ICAST 2024 was a huge
success. Developed by Triangle Sport‘s in-house engineering team,
the aluminium and stainless steel design replaces the original
moulded plastic version in response to customer feedback and
changes in the marketplace.
The old chuck was designed when monofilament line was the
preferred fishing line for almost all applications. However, with the
emergence and improvement of new ‘super braids,’ most customers
are now using those.
The old chuck couldn’t hold a spinning reel spool firmly enough
to pack the braid as tightly as needed. Conversely, the new chuck
holds tighter as more tension is applied to the line. An added feature
prevents the spool from slipping if the user needs to stop and
restart spooling. Additionally, the firm has included post extensions
that allow it to be used with larger spinning reel spools and fly reel
spools.
Like its world-renowned linewinders, the new chuck is designed
and engineered to last a lifetime.
EASTERN
EUROPE
D O I N G B U S I N E S S W I T H . . .
With diverse water bodies ranging from the Baltic Sea to the
Danube River, Eastern Europe presents a lucrative market
for fishing tackle manufacturers and distributors alike.
Although
agreeing on
what constitutes
Eastern Europe
can be hard, it is generally
thought to focus on the
region between Western
Europe and Asia.
As defined by the United
Nations Statistics Division,
Eastern Europe includes
the countries of Bulgaria,
Czechia, Hungary, Poland,
Romania, Russian Federation
and Slovakia, as well as
the republics of Belarus,
Moldova and Ukraine.
But the waters are
somewhat muddied as some
discount Russia and include
Serbia and Montenegro,
Azerbaijan, Georgia, Bosnia
and Herzegovina and
Croatia.
Geographically, Eastern
Europe extends from the
Baltic Sea in the north
to the Black and Adriatic
Seas to the south and from
the German border in the
west to the Russian border
in the east. It has a varied
topography including
lowlands to the north which
are good for agriculture, and
hills and mountains in the
south. Several major rivers
flow through it, including
Europe’s second longest
river, the Danube.
What is clear, however, is
that, in recent years, fishing
has gained significant
popularity here, driven by
the region’s abundant natural
resources and the growing
trend of outdoor activities.
Countries like Poland,
Hungary and Romania,
in particular, have seen an
increase in the number of
people engaging in fishing
as a hobby. This rise in
recreational fishing has
directly impacted the
demand for tackle, with
consumers seeking highquality
and innovative
products.
Factors such as rising
disposable incomes,
urbanisation, and increased
awareness of the health
benefits of outdoor
activities contribute to this
growth. Additionally, the
growing number of fishing
competitions and events in
the region further boosts the
market, as participants often
invest in premium fishing
gear.
Eastern Europe is home to
across Eastern Europe.
BFT is a key line
manufacturer,
based in Hungary.
There are some
big bait brands in
Eastern Europe.
Lead-free products
are becoming more
sought-after.
often produce affordable
yet reliable products that
resonate well with the local
market. In addition, local
distributors play a crucial
role in ensuring that these
products reach retailers and
consumers across the region.
Companies like Balázs
Filament Technologies,
Energofish, Abramis, K&K,
DryWalker, Konger, Filstar
and Carpzoom are among
those especially well-known
to retailers and anglers alike.
Several global fishing
tackle brands have also
established a strong
presence in Eastern Europe,
recognising the region’s
potential as a growing
market.
Brands like Shimano,
Daiwa, and Rapala have
entered the market through
partnerships with local
distributors or by setting
up their own distribution
networks. These are often
seen as premium options,
appealing to serious anglers
and participants in fishing
competitions.
Key markets
Poland: As one of the
largest markets for fishing
tackle in Eastern Europe,
Poland boasts a strong
tradition of fishing, both
recreational and competitive.
The country has a wellestablished
network
of tackle shops, online
retailers, wholesalers and
manufacturers/brands
Hungary: Known for
its numerous lakes and
rivers, Hungary is a key
market for fishing tackle,
especially as it boasts around
500,000 registred anglers
in the Hungarian Fishing
Association, with a high
demand for specialised
equipment such as carp
fishing gear, as well as being
home to tackle, bait and line
manufacturers.
Romania: With its vast
network of rivers and the
Danube Delta, Romania is
another important market.
The country has a growing
community of anglers who
are increasingly seeking
high-quality and durable
tackle.
Bulgaria: Boasting a range
of water bodies including
the Black Sea, the lower
reaches of the Danube, small
and medium-sized rivers, old
riverbeds, artificially created
reservoirs and mountain
lakes, this is an angler’s
dream.
Leger and float fishing
from the bank are traditional
methods, with spinning
coming to the fore in recent
years, not to mention boat
and fly fishing.
Top species
While Eastern Europe has
significantly diverse waters,
in most countries you will
find freshwater species
including carp, crucian carp,
tench, grass carp, barbel,
roach, savetta and predators
such as zander, catfish,
pike, perch, asp, brook and
rainbow trout and chub.
Saltwater species include
gobies, mackerel, mullet and
needle fish.
Market opportunities
As elsewhere the rise of
e-commerce has dramatically
impacted the market and
widened it. Online platforms
allow consumers to access
a wider range of products,
compare prices, and read
reviews before making a
purchase.
This has led to a shift
in how fishing tackle is
bought and sold, with
many traditional retailers
also establishing an online
presence to stay competitive.
Technological
advancements have affected
the sector too, with
manufacturers continually
innovating to create more
effective and user-friendly
products, including advanced
reel systems, highperformance
fishing lines
and smart fishing devices
that enhance the overall
fishing experience.
These are particularly
appealing to younger anglers
who are tech-savvy and
willing to invest in the latest
gear.
Spinning is still a growth
area in many countries.
EASTERN EUROPE
As environmental
awareness grows, there
is also rising demand for
sustainable and eco-friendly
fishing tackle. Consumers
are increasingly looking
for products made from
biodegradable or recycled
materials, as well as those
that minimise harm to
aquatic ecosystems.
Manufacturers in Eastern
Europe are responding to
this trend by developing
green alternatives, such as
lead-free weights and ecofriendly
lures.
Customisation is another
trend gaining traction in
the fishing tackle market.
Anglers are seeking
personalised gear that
reflects their style and
preferences. This has led to
the growth of niche markets
for custom-made rods, reels,
and lures.
Additionally, some
companies offer services that
allow customers to design
their own gear, catering to
the demand for unique and
tailored products.
Meeting challenges
While the market in Eastern
Europe is growing, it is
not without its challenges.
Economic instability in
certain countries can
affect consumer spending
on recreational activities,
including fishing.
Additionally, fluctuations
in currency exchange rates
can impact the cost of
imported fishing tackle,
making it more expensive for
consumers.
There are also plenty
of local regulations
aimed at preserving fish
populations and protecting
the environment. These can
sometimes pose challenges
for the trade, particularly
when it comes to the import
and sale of certain products.
For instance, restrictions on
lead-based fishing tackle, due
to environmental concerns,
require manufacturers to find
alternative materials, which
can be costly.
The proliferation of
counterfeit fishing tackle
products is another
significant challenge in
Eastern Europe. These
products are often sold
at lower prices but are of
inferior quality, damaging
the reputation of legitimate
brands and even posing
safety risks to consumers.
Combatting the spread
of counterfeit products
requires cooperation between
manufacturers, distributors
and law enforcement
agencies.
Opportunity knocks
There is considerable
potential for expansion
into less developed markets
within Eastern Europe.
Countries like Bulgaria,
Serbia and Ukraine
are emerging as new
opportunities for companies,
as recreational fishing
becomes more popular in
these regions.
Businesses that can
establish a presence in these
markets early on are likely
to benefit from first-mover
advantages.
Collaborating with local
fishing communities can
be a key strategy for those
looking to succeed in Eastern
Europe. By sponsoring local
fishing events, providing
educational workshops and
supporting conservation
efforts, companies can build
strong relationships with
anglers and gain their loyalty.
These partnerships also
offer valuable insights into
local preferences and trends,
helping companies tailor
their products accordingly.
Digital marketing and
social media platforms also
offer effective ways to reach
and engage with anglers in
Eastern Europe.
By creating targeted
campaigns, sharing fishing
tips and techniques,
and showcasing product
demonstrations, companies
can build brand awareness
and attract new customers.
Influencer marketing,
where experienced anglers
promote products to their
followers, is also an effective
strategy in this market.
ZENAQ CONTINUES
TO BE GUIDED
BY INNOVATION
Back in 2007, Japanese rod maker ZENAQ unveiled the RG Guide System,
a concept designed to perform exceptionally well. Naturally, this has developed
and the system now includes the RG10 high leg and small diameter butt guide.
ZENAQ’s original guide system
was designed to bring out the
fullest potential of spinning
rods, completely resolving
the downsides of using PE
line and maximising its benefits with
perfect cast feel and sensitivity, as well as
decreased line trouble.
The arrival of the RG Guide System
in 2007 heralded a new setting concept
with its innovative form and excellent
performance and it continues to evolve.
With an intimate understanding of
the characteristics of PE line, Zenaq’s
RG butt guide has been chosen with a
high foot frame that perfectly positions
the ring to tame line spirals coming off
the spool instantaneously.
Guiding lights
The RG guide system calls for
approximately twice as many running
guides. Due to the guides’ proximity to
one another, line shoots from one to the
next as straight as possible to minimise
air resistance, improve cast smoothness
and decrease the rate of tangles. The
narrow setting brings many more
advantages to anglers.
The “Assist Guide” is placed close to
the top guide and it prevents line from
wrapping around the tip. Even on windy
days, you can concentrate on fishing
without having line trouble.
So what are some of the key benefits
anglers can enjoy when using ZENAQ’s
RG guide system?
1. Perfect cast feel
The small calibre butt guide suppresses
line spirals instantaneously while
the narrow setting allows the line to
ZENAQ
trouble.”
shoot straight through the entire guides with minimal
friction. This system greatly decreases resistance on the
line due to strong winds and rain.
2. Intuitive lure action
By minimising line slackness, the RG guide system
greatly improves delicacy and precision in lure control.
Lures are now that much more responsive to the
slightest rod movements so the angler can impart a
more exact action to the lure with much less effort than
before.
3. Greater sensitivity
The narrow setting means that there are many guides
on the rod and those many guides serve as many
sensors. It brings better information from underwater
like movement of fish or a lure and even tides. The
RG’s greater sensitivity is said to be second to none.
4. Power and suppleness
Thanks to the narrow setting, PE line very closely
follows the natural curve of the rod when bent. As a
result, more of the blank’s power can be accessed, which
allows the angler to set the hook more resolutely and
fight fish with proper pressures while absorbing surges
that even break the line.
5. Decreased PE line trouble
The RG guide system decreases PE line troubles
dramatically. The frequent guide spacing and small ring
diameter work in unison to suppress line oscillation on
even the thinnest PE lines. On top of that, the assist
guide set at the very tip virtually eliminates all line
wrapping around the tip.
The system is now in use in many of ZENAQ’s rod
ranges, including the Tobizo offshore casting rod,
Muthos shore rods for heavy game, the Plaisir Answer
and Snipe, designed for medium game fishing from
the shore and the unusual-looking Bamboo Work, an
elegant model inspired by traditional Japanese styling.
A GROUNDBREAKING SERIES OF GUIDES AND TOPS,
TONY ENGINEERING, PATENT PENDING!
TONY HUANG
PACBAY MINIMA - X offers an unparalleled level of durability, solving the problems commonly associated with inner rings
popping out or getting crushed. Through extensive reform and innovation, PACBAY MINIMA - X is constructed using highstrength
, one-piece stainless steel. Both the guides and tops utilize mirror polishing, multi-layer Hard Chrome plating, and
Titanium plating processes, resulting in corrosion resistance, low friction, and high thermal conductivity. As a result , the friction
force during long-distance casting or retrieving is significantly reduced.
If you’ve ever experienced the nightmare of losing or breaking your inner ring while battling a tough fish, you’ll appreciate the superiority of PACBAY
MINIMA - X. Currently, we offer sizes ranging from #05 to #20, with plans to expand up to #50. More sizes and models will be available soon. We believe
these guides are ideal for lure anglers, particularly carp anglers who often face issues with the #50 stripper guide getting damaged during transportation.
With PACBAY MINIMA - X, this problem has been entirely eliminated.
In summary, PACBAY MINIMA - X guides and tops are renowned for their exceptional durability and ability to withstand heavy use and harsh conditions.
This innovation in the fishing world, through the abandonment of ceramic and stainless-steel rings, allows fishermen to bid farewell to the nightmares of
ring breakages, crushing, and detachment.
2024 CROSS-STRAIT FISHING EXCHANGE
FRIENDLY COMPETITION
On the morning of June 1,
2024, as the 2024 Zhejiang-
Taiwan Cooperation Week
is approaching, the 2024
Cross-Strait Fishing Exchange
Friendly Competition and the
Second "Pacific" Cup Fishing
Competition were held in Dama
Town, Tongxiang City.
At the competition site, in the
lure area, the contestants swung
their rods and cast their lines
in one go. They kept throwing
their rods, reeling in their lines,
and shaking their rods, trying
different ways of pulling the lines
to attract the target fish to attack;
in the Taiwan fishing area, the
contestants induced the fish to
gather by making nests, and sat patiently on both sides of the river and pond waiting. After a while, the fish at various
points were hooked one after another.
It is reported that among the 115 contestants participating in this competition, 35 are from Taiwan. Competition
is second, friendship is first. In addition to exchanging skills, the contestants from both sides of the strait actively
communicate and interact with each other. "There are many more players participating in the competition this year
than last year, and the venue is much larger. I also participated in the first competition last year. I feel that this time the
scale is larger and the competition is stronger. I met many old friends and made many new friends. Next year I will
also bring my Taiwanese friends to participate." Taiwanese youth Huang Chongshuo said happily.
The youngest angler in the field, Lin Bohao, is from Nantou, Taiwan, and is 16 years old this year. "I feel very nervous
to come to the competition with my father today. This is my first time to participate in a professional competition. I
see that those professional anglers are so strong. It doesn't take long for the fish to come up after casting the rod, one
after another, and the most caught more than 50 in 2 hours. Although I can't compare with them, I have learned a lot
of skills. Next time I participate in the competition, I will strive to get better results." Lin Bohao said confidently.
Finally, contestant Wang Bingliang won the championship of the lure project of this fishing competition, and
contestant Sun Yong won the championship of the platform fishing project of this fishing competition.
After the game, Tongxiang leader Mu Haiying attended the award ceremony and delivered a speech. She said that
since the first Cross-Strait Fishing Exchange and Friendship Game was held last year, it has opened a new chapter for
Tongxiang in promoting cross-strait exchanges and deepening the "One Family Across the Strait". Now under the
concept of "holding it every year and getting better and better", the event not only provides a platform for friends who
like fishing in Tongxiang and Taiwan to interact and enhance friendship, but also becomes a beautiful landscape of
Tongxiang sports events, promoting emotional integration and spiritual harmony between compatriots on both sides
of the strait.
After the game, 35 Taiwanese compatriots also went to Chongfu Historical and Cultural District, Puyuan Fashion
Ancient Town and Puyuan Fashion Center, and experienced the Dragon Boat Festival folk cultural activities with
Tongxiang citizens, felt the charm of the ancient town, understood the development of Tongxiang's fashion industry,
and enhanced cross-strait friendship in the process of entering Tongxiang.
CHENGDU TO HOST LARGE-SCALE FISHING
TACKLE EXHIBITION
In the fall of 2024, a large-scale fishing tackle
exhibition will be held in Chengdu, the capital
of Sichuan Province, China. The organizer is
Bi Hai Fishing Tackle Company. This autumn
exhibition will continue to focus on the fishing
tackle exhibition, while combining the local
characteristics of Chengdu, trying to integrate
multiple elements such as outdoor leisure,
road camping equipment, and fishing culture,
aiming to attract not only professionals, but a
wider audience group. This innovative move
fits Chengdu's image as a "leisure capital". At
the same time, it also demonstrates Bi Hai
Fishing Tackle Exhibition's determination to
continuously innovate and break through the
traditional exhibition model. Our goal is no
longer limited to facilitating business transactions,
but to create a more diverse and inclusive
platform to serve a wider audience.
Sichuan is located in the inland southwest of
China. Its unique geographical location and
rich fish and water resources have attracted a
large number of fishing enthusiasts and spawned
many fishing tackle shops and large-scale fishing
grounds. Its fishing ground scale is in a leading
position in the country. As the capital and sub-provincial city of Sichuan Province, Chengdu is not only the core
city in the province, but also ranks sixth in the number of urban populations in the country with a population of 21
million.
In 2023, Chengdu's GDP reached 2.2 trillion yuan, ranking seventh in the country, showing strong economic strength
and influence. Chengdu has the largest fishing gear wholesale market in Sichuan Province. Its business covers a wide
range, including Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Kang and other regions, and has become an important hub for fishing
enthusiasts to gather and sell fishing gear.
Chengdu people have a colorful leisure lifestyle. They are not only keen on tea culture and mahjong, but also love
socializing, participating in outdoor activities and enjoying the city's nightlife. These leisure methods not only reflect
the openness, fashion and quality of life of Chengdu people, but also show their adherence to traditional living habits
and cultural characteristics. In the field of outdoor leisure, Chengdu pays special attention to the development of
outdoor leisure and fishing travel to provide citizens with a unique leisure experience. In terms of fishing culture,
Chengdu people prefer traditional fishing, and there are relatively few competitive and black pit fishing methods.
Although there is no fishing tackle industry exhibition as large as the Bihai Fishing Tackle Exhibition in Chengdu,
Chengdu people have a good habit of visiting exhibitions, and their enthusiasm and number of visitors are second
only to Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou in the country. Therefore, the introduction of the Bi Hai (Chengdu)
Fishing Tackle Exhibition will not only fill the gap in the Chengdu market in this regard, but also provide a valuable
opportunity for fishing tackle brand manufacturers from all over the country to expand the market and open up new
market space.
CRAA HOSTS RECREATIONAL FISHING
COMPETITION
On the morning of August 10, the 2024 China·Tuoketu
"Strive for the Top" Leisure Fishing Competition kicked
off at Nanhu Wetland Park in Tuoketu County. The
two-day competition was the first national leisure
fishing competition held in Tuoketu County. The
competition level was the CRAA national second-class
points competition, and the competition format was a
hand-pole mixed fish group weight competition, which
attracted nearly 400 fishing enthusiasts from all over the
country to participate in this perfect fusion of nature and
competition.
Tokto has a long history and profound cultural heritage.
The Yellow River moisturizes Tokto, and the fish are
fat and the birds are beautiful. The unique location
advantages and resource endowments have laid a solid
foundation for the holding of this event. The venue
Nanhu Park is located at the foot of the ancient city of
Dongshengwei in the old city of Tokto County. It is
backed by the forest park in the east and faces the water
of the Yellow River in the west. It covers an area of more
than 1,000 acres. There are aquatic fish such as large carp,
crucian carp, crabs, etc. in the lake. It is a check-in place
for leisure anglers and photography enthusiasts.
At the competition site, the sun was shining, the breeze
was blowing, and the water surface of Nanhu Park was
rippling. As the competition instructions sounded, the
contestants quickly entered the state. They skillfully
hung baits and cast rods, stared at the water surface, and
concentrated on the competition, enjoying
the tranquility and fun brought by fishing.
With the referee's order, the contestants skillfully set up
their equipment, put on bait and cast rods, and their
movements were done in one go, ready to compete.
"I came from Kaifeng City, Henan Province. This is
my first time to Tokto County. I feel that there is a lot
of cultural heritage here, the natural scenery is very
beautiful, the folk customs are simple, and the food is
very distinctive. The venue and personnel arrangements
for this competition are well organized and standardized.
I hope that more anglers can come to Tokto for the next
competition." He Haibin, a national super competitive
fishing master from Kaifeng, Henan, said excitedly.
The holding of this fishing competition is an important
driving force for the integrated development of "fishing,
culture and tourism" in Tokto County. In recent years,
Tokto County has fully leveraged its advantages along
the Yellow River, made every effort to build a model area
for ecological protection and high-quality development
in the Yellow River Basin, vigorously developed rural
tourism, and continuously expanded the influence,
attraction and attention of special festivals such as the
Yellow River Opening Festival, Grape Festival, Fishing
Festival, Winter Fishing Festival, and Ice and Snow
Festival, helping Tokto County become a weekend
leisure tourism and vacation destination in the Hohhot,
Baotou and Ordos region.
