Looking back had turned Lot’s wife into a
pillar of salt,
But she returned as a magazine, as a new
name for Chaos,
A reincarnation, a second Genesis,
(Her name was a cautionary tale,
But she ignores that part).
Now, she looks back again
Over sixty fiery years of life,
Surviving the wrath of God and man.
For the first ten years, her daughters stayed
In corners, letting her sons take centre
stage.
Was it by their own choice,
Or does free will become muddied when
Society speaks lies like a serpent
Into innocent minds?
But in 1974, Sue Mathews became
Lot’s Wife first female editor, and
MSA
GUIDE
her ground.
The image of God was made more
complete.
In 2007, her dignity was challenged again,
2024
By an MSA muzzle, to stop a broad
Sue was appointed to editor by the Potentially defamatory mouth from biting
State Government, who held absolute Certain people. They tied her to a leash
power
And dragged her along. Maybe if God
Over whom would edit the Lot’s Wife, had done that
Making themselves a part-time God, To Lot’s wife she wouldn’t have turned
Until 1983, when the student body finally Into a pillar of salt, but God lets us
wrested
Power from the state and shared
It between themselves like bread and fish.
I wonder whether people would have
Cared so much about Jesus multiplying
food
If Uber Eats had existed back then.
Miracles are less magical in a digital world,
But poetry, prose, and art are still just as
magical
And suddenly they could travel
Around the world like angels and dip in
and
Out of time like an omnipresent God.
Years later, I read a poem from
Volume 10, No. 5, May 8, 1969,
‘Some people would live in their own
Ketchup if you’d let them’.
Luckily, we don’t always let people
Do what they want. Sometimes we do,
But sometimes we make them pay
University student organisation membership
fees,
Until 2005, when Howard and Costello
made
This voluntary too and the student unions
Worried that they would be swept away
ELECTION
In a wave of apathy for campus culture or
Maybe just financial necessity. Did Costello
Feel bad putting his daughter’s dignity
And life on the line? But Lot’s Wife stood
16th - 19th September 2024
Make our own fateful choices.
I think God liked Lot’s Wife new logo of
2015,
He is no stranger to controversy
And he always loved Lot’s wife’s spirit, her
Strength, her confidence. Perhaps he
Lamented that she did not use it for good,
But that was the risk he took.
He reads Lot’s Wife now, I’m sure, and
smiles
Seeing that she is just as bold as ever.
CANDIDATES - PRESIDENT
SADMAN ARAFAT - ELEVATE :
Hey Monash! My name is Sadman and I’m running for 2025 MSA President with
Elevate.
Our team prides itself on a belief in our student union being run by students, for
students. The cost of living crisis has come down hard on students, especially
international students like myself. We're all facing unprecedented financial
challenges - from skyrocketing rent prices to rising food and transport costs. This
year has been tough, made even tougher by the increasing costs of on-campus
accommodation and parking, as well as failure to see the return of five-day
extensions.
Monash students deserve better than forever-broken elevators in the N1 carpark.
Monash students deserve a team that will fight for a larger share of the SSAF pie
and push for investments in projects that directly benefit them. Monash students
deserve an MSA that pledges to expand campus services, student employment
opportunities and streamlined access to needed resources.
Elevate is made up of passionate, proven student leaders who won’t sit idly by as
student costs increase whilst the student experience continues to wither away.
Vote [1] Elevate - for an elevated student experience.
10

CANDIDATES - PRESIDENT
SASHA BRAYBROOKE - CHANGE! :
Hello everyone! My name is Sasha (she/her) and I’m running to be your 2025 MSA
President. Over my time at Monash, I’ve seen the real and genuine CHANGE! that
can be made by student unions that care.
Under the MSA this year, we’ve seen the reduction of late penalties from 10% to
5%, the introduction of another 24/7 study space, changes to withdrawn incomplete
grades, and a committed focus on student activism and progressive values on
campus. But there’s still more to fight for.
In the next year, we’d like to continue to advocate for students. Students deserve
to have a student union that backs them, especially as we all fight against rising
tensions from the cost of living to basic student needs like study spaces, public
transport, parking and academic policy.
We need a
committed union with a student centric focus that values Monash as a community. A
union that understands and listens to your experiences, and that’s what CHANGE!
represents.
We must always fight for CHANGE! on campus and in our community. A vote for
CHANGE! is a vote for a progressive, passionate and diverse union.
CANDIDATES - PRESIDENT
ALEX BRIMER - REGEN - REGENERATION AT MONASH:
Hi! I’m Alex (they/them) and I’m running for President in this MSA election. Having
started at Monash University in 2021, I have had the opportunity to experience
much of what the MSA has to offer. Being queer and disabled, I am very
passionate about uplifting minority voices and ensuring that underrepresented
groups have a say on issues that impact them.
I ultimately decided to run in this election in opposition to other tickets who are
funded by political parties and have underlying interest not in line with the greater
student body.
The MSA should not be a breeding ground for political infighting but should instead
be representing issues faced by all students, not just those who are visible and
politically palatable. I am hoping that I can represent my communities and help
ensure the MSA represents all students. I hope that you’ll consider me and REGEN
for your vote in this election.
12

CANDIDATES - PRESIDENT
BENJAMIN PENNINGTON - PARTY IN THE REDACTED:
Hi Monash,
I am excited to announce that Party In the REDACTED is contesting this election to
bring forth a vibrant era of prosperity for students at Monash University – namely
through reducing regulations, talking the big talk and standing up for what matters –
having a good time and sticking it to the man.
My Name is Ben and I’d be honoured to be your president in 2024-2025.
If you’ve found the bottom of a beer glass before and wished for more,
If you’ve danced so hard you dinted the floor
Or been through a class in the LTB that was a Bore,
Your vote is what we are looking for.
So put your hands up
They're playin' my song, the butterflies fly away
I'm noddin' my head like, "Yeah"
Movin' my hips like, "Yeah"
I got my hands up, they're playin' my song
I know I'm gonna be okay
CANDIDATES - SECRETARY
LACHIE CLEMENTS - PARTY IN THE REDACTED:
we actually don’t have any policies really we kinda just want more of the student
budget allotted to subsidising beer which i think you all agree with. we are also sick
of action and much prefer empty rhetoric with very little accountability or action.
CANDIDATES - SECRETARY
GRACE BINNS - ELEVATE:
Hey Monash! I'm Grace (she/her) and I couldn’t be more grateful to announce that
I'm running to be your MSA Secretary for 2025!
A student union should be a place for students to feel heard; to find hope; to feel
less alone. University is too frequently an isolating experience as we each attempt
to navigate adulthood, tertiary studies, extra-curriculars, and seemingly endless
responsibilities.
While these pressures are inherent to the university experience, there are so many
injustices that do not have to be- sexual assault and sexual harassment, cost of
living pressures, inaccessible support services, and so many more. You deserve an
MSA that not only intervenes where these issues exist but is actively transparent and
engaged with the student body.
Students should be able to bring their grievances to the union with the peace of
mind that they will be received with empathy, accountability and pragmatic action.
The MSA should be the beating heart of Monash- not some amorphous entity tucked
away in Campus Centre corridors where students don’t feel welcome to enter. You
deserve student representatives that are human, visible, and actively engaged in our
community. If this is the MSA you dream of - Vote [1] ELEVATE!
18

CANDIDATES - SECRETARY
FELIX HUGHES - CHANGE!
I’m Felix Hughes (he/him), and I’m excited to be running with CHANGE! for MSA
Secretary in 2025!
In just one year since being elected, CHANGE! has delivered real results: reducing
late penalties from 10% to 5%, opening a 24-hour study space, and launching a food
bank so no student goes hungry.
But there’s more to do. The cost of living crisis is hitting students hard, and Monash
continues to overlook student wellbeing. We need an MSA that will continue to stand
up to the university.
There’s still more work ahead. This year, Monash cut library hours, and CHANGE! is
fighting to make Matheson Library open 24/7. We’re pushing for universal submission
times of 11:55 p.m, and demanding that Monash finally fix the N1 lift.
We’re also advocating for greater flexibility and Zoom option for any class scheduled
in the evening - so that students don’t have to choose between safety and attendance.
CHANGE! is a passionate, progressive group of students committed to making Monash
better for everyone.
This election, make CHANGE! at Monash.
Elevate is a chance for better. We aim to create a student union that emphasises
unity and cohesion across departments, that can deliver actual change, and can
properly represent our student community.
Our promise to you includes:
A balanced budget to secure bigger, better initiatives for you.
even more local on and off-campus businesses.
spaces on-campus.
CAMPBELL FROST - CHANGE!
Hi there Monash! I’m Campbell (he/him), and I’m running with CHANGE! to be your
MSA Treasurer. This year, as your Welfare Officer, I’ve had an amazing time making
student life better with BIGGER Free Food Mondays, an expanded Welfare Week, and
a stronger Welfare Department. It’s all been about making sure you’re supported and
heard!
As Treasurer, I’m excited to keep our Union’s funds secure and growing—because
when the Union thrives, we all benefit. Under CHANGE!, we’ve achieved recordbreaking
funding for clubs, launched the Foodbank program to tackle food insecurity
on campus, and saved students a whopping $42,000 through our Myki Travel Pass
Program. We’ve also reduced late penalties, got fans installed for Res students, and
made sure 24-hour study spaces on campus are available.
My goal as Treasurer is to keep this momentum going, ensuring that our Union
remains a powerhouse for student support and innovation. I’m passionate about
making Monash a place where every student can thrive.
Last year we changed the Union; now it’s time to Change Monash. Vote [1] CHANGE!
CANDIDATES - DISABILITIES & CARERS OFFICER
CHARLOTTE SUTTON - ACCESS:
Hi,
My name is Charlotte (she/her) and I am running with Access as the candidate for
Disabilities & Carers Office Bearer.
It has been my privilege to have this role in 2024 and I would love the opportunity
to continue with the work I have started. Prior to my role as OB this year I was a
member of the Disabilities & Carers committee in 2022 and 2023. I have lived
experience with chronic illnesses, chronic pain and mental health conditions.
This year I have:
• Advocated for individual students on accessibility issues
• Published a Lot's Wife edition for Neurodiversity Celebration Week
• Collaborated with other departments to support intersectionality
• Developed relationships across multiple university sectors
• Increased engagement with the community and allies
• Created an access guide for MSA
I’m proud of the work we’ve been able to do for the community this year, there’s still
so much more that needs to be done.
That’s why for 2025, I want to focus on:
• Creating ally networks Monash Residential Services accessibility
• Supporting international students
• Physical accessibility across campus
• Accessibility training for all Monash staff
I will continue to fight to break down barriers faced by Disabled students
Vote [1] Access- Amplifying Disabled Voices.
CANDIDATES - DISABILITIES & CARERS OFFICER
MANAV AJAY AND THIEN AUTRAN - CHANGE!
We’re Thien (He/Him) and Manav (He/Him), and we’re both excited to be running
with CHANGE! as your candidates for Disability and Carers Office Bearer. As students
with a vision impairment and lived experience caring, we’ve faced firsthand the
challenges that students with disabilities and their carers encounter on campus. We’re
committed to bringing a fresh perspective to make meaningful CHANGE! that benefits
everyone.
With CHANGE!, we will prioritise making course materials universally accessible,
including advocating for screen reader-friendly digital content, captioned lectures,
and live translations. Accessibility should never stand in the way of education.
But accessibility extends beyond academics. Our campus needs significant upgrades.
For instance, the N1 Car Park lift has been out of service since the start of the year,
posing a huge barrier to students with mobility issues. This is just one example of the
urgent work needed to ensure all buildings meet accessibility standards.
We’re passionate about fostering a supportive community and will advocate for the
facilitation of staff training to better support students with disabilities and carers,
creating a more inclusive and accommodating environment for all.
real, tangible outcomes for Monash students.
providing students the ability to not be as punished for unexpected challenges in
finishing an assignment.
Our experiences have given us a deeper insight on what students need and want from
their academic experience. We’re advocating for fairer, more supportive university
experience for all. We’re excited to continue this work, listen to your concerns, and
drive meaningful change at Monash.
Hi! We’re Mohamed and Furqan, and we’re excited to be running as your Welfare
Office Bearers for 2025 with CHANGE! to expand on the accomplishments of 2024.
Our commitment to student health and well-being is what drives us to have a meaningful
impact on the lives of all Monash students. Through our active involvement in Monash
Clubs & Societies, we’ve served in various leadership roles, dedicating countless
hours to improving the student experience.
Now, we’re eager to apply the knowledge and skills we’ve gained to benefit the
wider student body. Our priority is to build on the work done, delivering the food
provided to students and over $40,000 of student savings with free PTV travel passes.
These conversations have motivated us to introduce initiatives focused on improving
extension policies, strengthening community bonds, and enhancing access to mental
health resources.
However, our vision for CHANGE! doesn’t stop there. We are committed to listening to
your ideas and collaborating with you to make Monash a place where everyone feels
supported. Together, we can make a difference.
Vote [1] for a stronger community, better well-being, and real CHANGE!
POSITION - WOMENS' OFFICER
The Women’s Officer is an autonomous position elected by students
Hello everyone!
We’re Ashley (She/Her) and Tyra (She/Her), and we’re thrilled to run as your Women’s
Officers for 2025 with CHANGE!
Our mission is to ensure that all women and gender-diverse students have the
passionate about creating the CHANGE! We want to see it on campus, especially for
those who share our vision.
Our top priority is to focus on women’s safety and well-being. We’re committed to
continuing and expanding initiatives like Safe and Sexy Week and Endometriosis
Awareness Week to further educate and raise awareness about women’s health
issues. We want to make the Women’s Department an accessible resource for those
facing gender-based challenges.
Accessibility is key to a positive university experience, and we’re dedicated to making
a real impact. We will advocate for lighting on campus because 70% of the academic
year, it’s dark by 6pm. No one should feel unsafe walking on campus after dark. We
will advocate for a Zoom option for classes with mandatory attendance that end after
7pm. Our goal is to empower and support all women and gender-diverse students.
spaces to empower genuine discussion about the complex experience of women
and gender diverse people, to facilitating the biggest and most inclusive Safe &
Sexy Week Monash has ever seen.
As your Women’s Officers, we will fight relentlessly for an annual Sexual Assault
and Sexual Harrassment (SASH) Report, to ensure the University can no longer hide
behind outdated data as an excuse to avoid confronting the prevalence of this
issue.
Additionally, more needs to be done to combat the ongoing cost of living crisis.
That’s why we will be initiating an expanded period products program, to ensure
consistent distribution of period products across all bathrooms, everywhere on
campus.
This year, join us in voting [1] Elevate - for an elevated university experience.
CANDIDATES - QUEER OFFICER
ÁINE GUN AND JADE SPRATLEY - REGEN
I’m Jade (they/them) I’m Sri Lankan European mix and I’m running for queer office.
One thing I’ve learnt from ballroom is that I will lead unapologetically fierce and
continue to stand for the rights of queer people, so we don’t just survive but thrive.
Having dealt with homophobia and transphobia my whole life, I’ve seen the value in
community and chosen family. My hope is that I can serve the community at Monash,
giving the mic to the most marginalised because only then can our rights be realised.
I’m Áine (they/she,)
Hi! I’m Áine (they/she) and I’m running for Queer officer. I am half-Chinese and since
coming out 8 years ago, have found myself immersed amongst other queer people
with different stories and different struggles. I have noticed gaps in the mental health
and quality life of queer people, and amongst the queer community at Monash. I am
running for QO in 2025 in the hopes that I can make a positive difference. Having
experienced queerphobia from peers and educational institutions and it is too easily
swept under the rug when this occurs. I want to help bring diverse voices and activism
into the MSA to ensure… [CANDIDATE EXCEEDED WORD COUNT].
46

CANDIDATES - QUEER OFFICER
MALLORY NORMAN AND MORPH/EDEN ROSEN - CHANGE!
MSA Queer leadership has experienced a disconnect from the community
that it serves. With 8 years of collective community involvement we feel
we couldn't be better positioned to remedy this. Morph/Eden: In my 4
years in MSA Queer spaces, I was on the Queer Affairs Committee, led
and founded intersectional autonomous groups, ran events and o-week
stalls, and introduced fortnightly badge-making sessions. I also brought
community requests to the Queer Officers, expanded queer lounge
resources, and took ownership over moderation. I aim to be a point of
contact for all community members, enable community participation in
meetings, and support community-led projects and events. Mallory: I've
been involved with MSA Queer for 4 years. I have club committee experience
in president, secretary, and treasurer roles – including planning events,
writing official communications, chairing meetings, and handling financial
documentation. If elected I’d be a steady hand on the administrative
wheel of the queer department, making the events and resources the
community wants a reality. We're committed to being present for the
community, restoring effective moderation and grievance processes, and
platforming individual queer voices. Through these initiatives we hope to
not just restore the status quo, but raise the standard for the future
POSITION - PEOPLE OF COLOUR OFFICER
VEESPATHIP CHANDRAKUMARAN AND MAHMOOD SAEED - ELEVATE
Hi, we’re Vees and Saeed and we’re running to be your People of Colour (POC)
Officers with Elevate. This year has been tough for students, with rental prices soaring
and housing availability at all-time lows. More needs to be done on campus.
With Elevate, we pledge to build targeted advocacy programs to support students of
colour, addressing issues such as discomfort and inclusion. On-campus cultural clubs
need continued support as the bedrock of diverse community engagement. Cultural
remembrance is another key focus of ours, with connection to and celebration of
culture being a key feature of what we want to see in 2025.
Next year, advocacy for diversity will be at the forefront of our department. Aspiring
to fight for more students of colour in leadership and the abolishment of international
student caps, we believe Elevate is the only ticket capable of making substantial
change next year
This year, we’re incredibly proud of the progress the POC department has made and
the new initiatives we've brought to life. We've worked hard to champion the voices of
our community and create real change on campus.
Through events like the POCnic and one of the largest union-run Iftar dinners, the
department has fostered unity across our diverse community, bringing people together
in harmony.
Looking ahead, we’re committed to implementing the findings of the first Racism
Report, set to be released later this year. Our mission is to act on these insights,
ensuring the broad range of perspectives on campus is understood and respected.
Our vision for next year includes expanding cross-cultural collaborations with an even
bigger and better One World Festival, bringing together our clubs and societies to
celebrate and showcase their unique cultures and talents.
We’re fighting to continue the work done this year to make campus not just ecofriendly,
seen some of what CHANGE! has done already, like ESJ Week, which got people
talking about the climate crisis, or our report on Monash’s renewables plan.
Here’s what we’re aiming for:
1. Call for a shift away from fossil fuels, with a strong push for full divestment 2.
Advocate against injustice around the world, collaborate with peace campaigns and
emphasise student solidarity with Gaza
3. Keep things transparent by making it easy to see how Monash is doing on its
CANDIDATES - ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL JUSTICE OFFICER
LEE REYNOLDS AND OWEN WALLACE - ELEVATE
G’day Monash! We’re Lee (he/him) and Owen (he/him) and we’re thrilled to be
running for Environment and Social Justice (ESJ) Officers with Elevate for 2025. We
are passionate and determined to see more sorely-needed changes to come about
next year.
Our time at Monash has highlighted the importance of steadfast advocacy by students
for students. Despite this, more needs to be done. Our vision for 2025 includes the
expansion of Wholefoods to continue providing nutritious, green food at an even more
discounted price as well as reviving the communal gardens for students on res.
This year, we’ve seen the cost of parking on campus dramatically rise just as the cost
of public transport has soared. We want to further MSA’s commitment to environmental
and social justice causes, by committing to expanding access to sanitary provisions,
establishing a free essentials stall to address the pressing cost of living crisis, and
advocate for Myki concession cards to be applied for on campus.
We will push for the university to make the switch to renewable energy sources, while
enhancing energy efficiency and providing opportunities for students to engage with
environmental change makers.
JUDE BACHELET AND VANESSA SWARENS - ELEVATE
Hey Monash, we’re Vanessa Swarens (she/her) and Jude Bachelet (he/him), and
participants in campus events and student organisations, we have firsthand experience
of the importance of well-organised and diverse activities in enriching the university
experience. Unfortunately, this year we haven’t seen enough effort from MSA to deliver
the campus experience we deserve.
We want to deliver real outcomes to enrich and enliven the student experience, such
as:
The return on RE:WIND, an on-campus party to celebrate our achievements
A new First Years Night - an opportunity to help create new friends when you’re new
PRATHAM GUPTA AND PATRICK PORTER - ELEVATE
Our names are Pratham and Patrick, and we’re running with Elevate to be your
Our vision for Wednesday Sessions is simple: more sponsorships for better drinks and
food and even bigger artists. Our plans include expanding student-led performances,
exhibitions, and creative workshops that cater to different art forms - from visual arts
to music, theater, and more. We’ll create better platforms for student artists, making it
easier to get involved and feature in major events.
We’re also pushing for greater representation and inclusivity in the arts. This means
more opportunities for First Nations voices through our First Nations Festival, as well
funding and resources for the Student Theatre to ensure our creative spaces remain
Our mission is to keep creativity buzzing across campus. We believe that art has the
STUTI BAJ AND NICHOLAS GRISTWOOD - ELEVATE
Hi Monash, our names are Nick and Stuti and we’re thrilled to announce our candidacy
to be your 2025 MSA Residential Office Bearers with Elevate!
From Howitt to Logan, students on res have been doing it tough. We’ve had enough
of annual rent increases whilst battling the ever-increasing cost of living pressure on
top of academic stress. Despite demanding more and more, Monash seems absent
when it comes to residential students - we haven’t seen our fees directed to the things
we need, like improved lighting or campus safety, nor air-conditioning for common
spaces.
As your Residential OBs, we will fiercely oppose annual rent increases and fight to
overhaul Monash Residential Services to be what it should always have been - truly
student led and directed.
If you envisage a residential community that is safer, cheaper and stronger, then help
us to do just that!
Our goal is to enhance campus living, making it more enjoyable, safer, and inclusive for
everyone. We’re proud of securing cooling requirements for new residential buildings,
and we’re determined to extend these improvements across all halls.
We’re dedicated to being your advocates for any concerns that you may have because
we want to ensure that the needs of resident students are prioritised.
As your representatives, our top priority is the safety and well-being of all students
to address the evolving challenges faced. Your wellbeing is our main concern and
ELEVATE
Hey there, we are Sadaf, Ashma and Asher and we’re running to be your Lot's Wife
Editors for 2025 with ELEVATE!
Over the years, Lot’s Wife has been much beyond a magazine - it has been a source
of news, an avenue of opportunity for our student talent, representative of what we
truly desire, and as we celebrate sixty years of its existence, we strive for even better.
We want a fresh start to Lots Wife, by encouraging more diverse opinions and
expanding reach through a stronger digital presence. Lot's Wife needs to be out there,
communicating your ideas to the broader Monash community. We also propose to
expand the distribution of the Lot’s Wife magazine to go beyond the Campus Centre
and install distribution points in prominent buildings across Monash Clayton such as
the Learning and Teaching Building (LTB).
We desire to make Lot’s Wife yours, uplift its creativity and diversity quotient. We
should be able to create a Lot’s Wife that you want, one that is creative, empowering
and uplifting. Vote [1] ELEVATE for a new beginning, a deliverable one!
Hey there!
We’re Kristy (she/her), Grayson (he/him), Beck (he/him), and Yvette (she/her) —your
CHANGE! MSC General Representatives, and we’re here to ensure that your voice
isn’t just dismissed at Monash. We know student politics might feel like a chore, but
we’re focused on making real changes that have a tangible impact on your everyday
uni life.
Our mission is straightforward: to make Monash a better place by genuinely listening
to what’s important to you and turning those ideas into concrete action. We’re all
about being *your* representatives. By bringing in a wide range of perspectives,
we’re aiming to address the issues that affect you the most and come up with practical
solutions that make a difference.
But we’re not just about talk; we’re about getting things done. That means we’re
committed to holding everyone accountable, ensuring that your representatives are
doing their jobs and that the MSA is working for you. We’ll collaborate closely with
Clubs & Societies to enhance the quality of events, making them more engaging and
inclusive for everyone. Transparency is key to everything we do—every decision the
MSA makes should be clear, fair, and involve input from all students. No one should
feel left out or unheard.
Our team isn’t just about titles or positions; we bring real leadership experience from
various fields, both within and beyond the university. We’ve been in the trenches,
leading projects and initiatives, and we understand what it takes to create positive
change. We’re confident that our diverse leadership skills and experiences will help us
make informed decisions, ensuring that the MSA remains a strong, effective advocate
for all students.
So, if you’re looking for a better, more inclusive student experience—one that truly
reflects what you care about.
CANDIDATES - GENERAL REPRESENTATIVE
DIYARA JASWAR, JENNIFER TRAN, OMID MOHAMMADI, HAMISH
MARKOVSKI AND IMOGENE JONES
Hi Monash! My name is Diyara and I’m writing on behalf of the incredible team of
Elevate General Representative candidates - Jennifer, Omid, Hamish, Imogene and
myself.
Our student union needs to be elevated. The stress of increasing costs of rent, groceries
and academic supplies have only been compounded by a lack of support from the
university we spend so much to go to.
We believe the role of general representative shouldn’t be limited to Monash Student
Council meetings. Under an Elevate-led MSA, the general representative portfolio
would be shaped to better assist MSA departments in delivering their promises -
meaning better outcomes, bigger events and drastic changes for you and your student
experience.
An Elevate-led MSA would fight for the return of an independent campus mart,
establishment of an annual SASH report, a repaired N1 elevator, expanded health
services and the return of Wednesday Sessions that will make you regret leaving
campus early.
When you open your ballots this year, there will only be one ticket that is ready to
deliver, give back and properly represent you. Vote [1] Elevate for an MSA that will
deliver on its promises.
Hi, we're activists with "Free Palestine", running for the Student Affairs Committee.
We're the activists on campus, and I believe the MSA should be taking up campaigns
against cuts on campus, and for social justice issues. This year we have been
campaigning for the university to cut it's ties with weapons companies profiting from
Israel's crimes in Gaza. Our university, like many others, has weapons company
representatives sitting on advisory boards, and conducts research which is then
applied by such companies. The Student Affairs Committee should be full of activists
who take up the fight for our education to contribute to social good, not to weapons
and war.
The government’s proposed cuts to international student numbers is already leading
to cuts to staff and courses around the country. If we're elected we'll be ready to fight
against any cuts at the Monash campus, whether they're coming from the government
or the university.
We are proud to have won last year and are excited to continue our mission of fostering
a safe and inclusive environment throughout Monash. Our committee is dedicated to
identifying and addressing welfare issues impacting students, developing effective
strategies and policies to overcome these challenges, and enhancing the overall
student experience at Monash.
We remain committed to listening to the struggles and barriers students face in their
studies and in finding communities within Monash. Our focus is on creating impactful
events and experiences that improve student welfare, while also developing and
implementing policies that benefit every student at Monash.
Recognizing the diverse range of backgrounds and identities within our student body,
we strive to consider all perspectives in our policy development. To achieve this, we
plan to collaborate extensively with other office bearers and committees to tailor our
efforts to the unique needs of different communities within Monash.
We also acknowledge the rising cost of living and its impact on students' ability to
We are proud of our success last year and are eager to continue our mission of
creating a safe and inclusive environment across Monash. Our collective is committed
to identifying and addressing welfare challenges faced by students of colour, breaking
down systemic barriers to education, and implementing effective strategies and
policies to improve the overall student experience at Monash.
We are proud of the achievements from 2024 and excited to continue our mission of
fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for PoC at Monash. We are dedicated
to empowering our diverse communities, amplifying our voices, and driving systemic
change to enhance the student experience.
This year we have worked tirelessly to open new accessible Prayer Spaces, providing
a peaceful environment for our Muslim students to practise their faith with ease. This
is just one step toward ensuring all students feel seen, supported, and represented.
We will continue to advocate for mandatory cultural competency training for all staff
and student leaders. This will ensure that Monash becomes a place where every
student’s culture, background, and identity are respected and embraced.
With your support, we will keep pushing for greater equity, respect, and representation
Our Environmental and Social Justice Committee believes that real environmental and
social CHANGE! can be called for, enacted and implemented at Monash! Our vision
involves holding Monash accountable for achieving previously set sustainability targets
with information that is available to the public, setting a precedence of transparency
and commitment.
This allows us to hold the university accountable for its decisions and com- mitment
to a sustainability policy, divesting away from fossil fuel investments and ultimately
upholding the goal of Net-Zero emissions. In conjunction with maintaining and
introducing reusable initiatives on campus, we can propel the university to an improved,
and more sustainable 2025.
As a team, it is important to us that student activism on campus is encouraged and
supported, enhancing solidarity and community through enacting social CHANGE!
With your safety and security prioritised, we insist on commitment from the university
to be held accountable for issues of discrimination, hate and inequity on campus.
Vote #1 ‘Free Palestine’
We want the National Union of Students to fight for social justice. "Free Palestine"
candidates are the pro-Palestine, left wing activists on campus. We helped organise
the Gaza solidarity encampment, and was threatened with expulsion by Monash for
doing so. With the horrors in Gaza, the climate crisis, the rising cost of living, and
racism and the far right on the rise globally, it has never been more important to have
left wing activists in NUS.
Our candidates are about fighting for the social issues that matter, and never backing
down. We know from history that this is the only way we can win the world we want
to see.
We know that all universities have ties with weapons companies complicit in Israel's
crimes in Gaza. If elected, We will use positions to argue for NUS to take up the
campaign for divestment. Universities shouldn't be developing weapons!
more energy and fresh ideas. We’re dedicated to pushing boundaries and challenging
the status quo with a bold, progressive vision. Our team thrives on inclusivity, diversity,
and innovative solutions to tackle the pressing issues students face today. We’re not
just about talking the talk—we’re about walking the walk with creative initiatives that
make a real impact!
Our platform focuses on what’s most important to you: affordable education, robust
mental health support, and comprehensive student welfare. We’re here to turn these
priorities into action and ensure that Monash students continue to get the representation
they deserve. With CHANGE! leading the charge, you can count on dynamic, engaged
delegates committed to making positive changes at the NUS.
By voting for CHANGE!, you’re choosing to maintain Monash’s strong voice and
advocate for transformative policies that truly benefit our community. Let’s keep
the momentum from last year and drive even more progress with enthusiasm and
dedication.
So, let’s make it happen! Cast your vote for CHANGE! and join us in creating a vibrant,
forward-thinking NUS. Together, we can continue to make progress, spark activism,
and drive real change.
