Conrad Manila proudly unveils the 32nd edition of its highlyacclaimed
“Of Art and Wine” exhibition series at Gallery C with
a solo show by an award-winning artist Stella Rojas.
This latest collection is composed of 33 artworks, heavily
inspired by the artist’s unforgettable European trips, which
started back in 1989. Being the final exhibit this 2024, the hotel
is honored to have Stella Rojas, who perfectly embodies worldclass
Filipino talent and artistry.
Of Art and Wine: Balade will be on exhibit from October 22,
2024 to January 4, 2025. The paintings are available individually

BALADE is a collection by Stella Rojas, featuring paintings from her
travels through Paris, its outskirts, the French countryside, and
Norwegian landscapes. The series also features depictions of male
and female statues, large-scale close-ups of flowers, and various
landscapes.
Balade is a French word meaning to stroll, travel, and explore—
perfectly capturing the essence of Paris' bustling streets and
charming alleys. Like painters of the past—such as Gauguin in
Tahiti, the Orientalists in Northern Africa, and Van Gogh in the
South of France—Rojas was inspired by her experiences abroad.
Since first arriving in Paris in 1989, she felt the city's creative
energy, rooted in the legacies of great artists who once walked its
streets.
Although the series features European scenes, the palette is
distinctly Filipino, using vivid and intense colors. Balade reflects a
Filipino artist's perspective on breathtaking foreign landscapes.
Through Balade, Rojas invites viewers to see life as a journey, where
leaving home and immersing oneself in different cultures lead to
getting to know oneself, expanding one’s mind, soul and art.

Stella Rojas
Stella Rojas is a Filipino painter born in Manila on
January 19, 1963. Her interest in painting began
at the early age of 5. In high school at the St.
Scholastica’s College she participated in art
competitions and received a certificate of merit in
the field of fine arts. Rojas graduated with a
Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts Major in Painting
from the University of the Philippines, Diliman in
1986.
Rojas’ first solo exhibit was in 1988 at the Cultural
Center of the Philippines where she was a Project
Awardee of the Contemporary Art Museum of the
Philippines. She presented an 8-panel mural in oil
on canvas totaling 12 feet x 48 feet entitled “The
Bathers”. Since then she has had yearly
(sometimes more often) one man shows. Most of
them were held at the Ayala Museum and Gallery
139 in SM Megamall. To date, Rojas has mounted
a total of 46 solo exhibits and countless group
shows here and in Paris.
Rojas first traveled to Paris in 1989 and she was amazed by this gorgeous, electrifying
city. Since then, she has repeatedly painted scenes from Paris. She coined the term
“Pariscapes” referring to her signature paintings of Parisian scenery. In 1991, Rojas
received the Grand Prize from the World Ecologist’s Foundation Painting Competition
on the theme of man protecting nature. Her winning entry was entitled “Nature
Rapture”. In 1993 Rojas became a Scholar of the French Government where she was
granted a large studio to paint for 3 months at the École d’Art Aix-en-Provence from
1993-94. She was the first Filipino artist to set foot on the school’s premises. Her
French sojourn was capped with a 7th solo exhibit in Paris at a gallery in rue de Seine
at the Saint Germain Quarter.
Rojas has consistently painted nature in bright, vibrant and intense hues. Be it in her
signature “Pariscapes”, “Macro-Floralscapes”, “Nightscapes” or paintings of lovers
fused with nature, Rojas’ steadfast depiction of nature all through her life is a
testament of the value and relevance it has on ours.
