MY problem with paywalls
revolves around the tension between revenue
generation for journalism and accessibility for
readers. Here are a few key points that highlight
why the DDG is 100% against them.
Access and Inequality: Paywalls often limit
access to important information, particularly for
low-income individuals creates a divide in who can
stay informed, reinforcing societal inequalities.
Free speech is vital: The shift from free access
to paid content can alienate readers who aren’t
willing to subscribe. The cumulative cost of TV
apps is indeed a prime example of how accessing
information, news, and entertainment has become
increasingly expensive.
Lower Quality and more Clickbait: Free
models, especially those relying on ads, are less
reliant on clickbait and viral content but focus
rather n-depth, quality journalism to entice
advertisers no. On the other hand, paywalls are
free to support radical movements, like MAGA!
Catch An Kill stories like the Enquirer lowers the
Quality and reliability.
Information Fragmentation: Paywalls contribute
to a fragmented information ecosystem, where
only some people can read certain stories,
potentially limiting public discourse. Instead of a
collective objective discussion about a widely-read
article, information stays siloed behind different
subscriptions.
The end of Journalism: paywalls help sustain
media outlets financially, particularly as ad revenues
decline without true objective reporting. The
restricted access to reliable, objective journalism
behind paywalls has indeed contributed to the
rise of disinformation, radicalization, and events
like the January 6th Republican insurrection
When high-quality, fact-based journalism is
locked behind paywalls, many people turn to free,
often less reliable, sources. These free platforms,
including social media and fringe websites, can
promote sensationalism, conspiracy theories, and
misinformation. People who cannot afford or do
not prioritize paying for news subscriptions may
end up consuming content that feeds into their
pre-existing biases, often radicalizing their views.
Relying too heavily on paywalls isolate your
audience. When people are unaware food deserts,
rent control are area where residents can work
with city government to address.
Publications, like Desert Daily Guide, (now
free to list and free to read)
that serve the community
without paywalls, play a crucial
role in keeping information
accessible and balanced. They
DDG Donate $1
provide a counterbalance to
the sensationalized and often
damaging content that circulates in the absence
of reliable, objective news. Over the years reader
donations has helped our publication sustainable
while also maintaining open access to important
content.
The Desert Daily Guide there is room for all in
next generation media! Having our own IT servers
and in-house printing gives us significant control
over costs and production quality, which is a huge
advantage. Expanding our digital reach to other
cities will also broaden our audience and impact,
Stay Tuned!! Let us know if you would like to
help us meet the chalenges to free speech in
the future.
from page 2 to be a subject of complex legal, social,
and ethical debates, as demonstrated by recent
cases and evolving guidelines. For instance,
JayCee Cooper’s lawsuit against USA Powerlifting
highlighted discrimination when the organization
banned her from competing in women’s
competitions, a decision overturned by a court in
2023. This case set a precedent in recognizing the
rights of transgender athletes within powerlifting
and beyond. As always debates must remain
respectful.
In Florida, the 2024 case involving Monarch High
School raised questions about state laws and the
participation of transgender students in school
sports, illustrating the challenges schools face
under restrictive state policies. The investigation
cleared the school of wrongdoing, but it
underscored the tension between state laws and
schools’ efforts to foster inclusivity.
Meanwhile, the International Olympic Committee
(IOC) introduced new guidelines in early 2024
that no longer mandate hormone therapy for
transgender athletes, aiming to respect athletes’
identities while fostering fair competition. This
decision reflects a broader movement toward
inclusivity, although it remains contentious within
certain sporting communities.
A significant legal battle involves former swimmer
Riley Gaines, who, along with others, sued the
NCAA, claiming that allowing transgender athlete
Lia Thomas to compete violated their Title IX
rights. This lawsuit reflects the divide between
athletes advocating for women’s sports exclusivity
and those supporting the participation of
transgender athletes.
These cases are emblematic of the ongoing efforts
to balance fairness, inclusivity, and competition
integrity in sports. A nuanced approach that
incorporates scientific research, case-by-case
evaluations, and transparent guidelines is essential.
Open categories, clearer hormone guidelines, and
continuous dialogue between stakeholders can
help sports organizations develop policies that
protect both the rights of transgender athletes and
the integrity of gender-specific sports.
One that considers fairness, inclusivity, and the
integrity of competition. Potential solutions
include developing inclusive policies with specific
guidelines for hormone levels, introducing
open categories where athletes can compete
regardless of gender, and evaluating each case
individually based on physical characteristics and
the demands of the sport. Investing in scientific
research to understand the impact of hormone
therapy on performance, promoting education
and awareness to reduce stigma, and encouraging
dialogue between athletes, sports organizations,
and advocacy groups are also crucial. Additionally,
ensuring legal protections against discrimination
while respecting the rights of all athletes to
fair competition can help create a balanced and
inclusive environment.
Supporting transgender athletes requires a
combination of advocacy, education, and creating
inclusive spaces where they can thrive both in
sports and in society. Here are several ways to
offer meaningful support:
1. Promote Inclusivity in Policies
- Advocate for inclusive sports policies at all
levels—local, national, and international—that
allow transgender athletes to participate in
accordance with their gender identity.
EXPOSE THE SHAMEFUL
HISTORY OF THE JAPANESE
INTERNMENT CAMPS- PART 2
With the culmination
of another
presidential election
within a few weeks.
It appears that some
citizens of the United
States have not
learned the lessons
of racism, exclusion,
and white supremacy.
According to political polls, there is still a
substantial number of people who plan to vote for
a candidate who is not only xenophobic, racist, a
convicted criminal, and a traitor who attempted
to overthrow a previous legitimate presidential
election. Some also may not be aware of this
serious injustice that happened in the 1940’s during
World War Ii known as the Japanese Internment.
The painting is by a Japanese artist interned
showing citizens in an internment camp
One of the artists referred to in Part 1 of this
article was actor George Takie who experienced
the brutal internment process along with his family
members and thousands of
Japanese citizens. His book “They Called Us
Enemy”, documented in graphic novel format
the experience of racial discrimination and antihuman
behavior by the government of the United
States. In addition to the book “They Called Us
Enemy,” Mr Takei also published a children’s
book titled “My Lost Freedom”.He hopes parents
and teachers will use this to help understand the
terrible mistake that the U.S. Government made.
Other artists who were mentioned include Ansel
Adams who photographed life in the Manzanar
Camp about 200 miles northeast of Los Angeles
at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
The Camp Director Ralph Merritt asked him to
document life in the camp including daily living
styles, work, and recreation. Adams was an avid
critic of the internment process and felt it was a
grave injustice.
Dorthea Lang another well-known photographer
was commissioned by the U.S. War Relocation
Department to document life in some of the
internment camps. Lang photographed Japanese
families leaving their homes in the Los Angeles
area as well as their living styles in the camps.
As an example her photo of a Japanese woman
making paper flowers in a camp cabin. Her
photos were seized and censored by the U.S.
Military and quietly deposited in the National
Archives where they remained mostly unseen and
unpublished until 2006. Ms. Lang was opposed to
the oppressive action by the government but was
eager to take the assignment to photograph and
document the hardships continued on psge 21
from page 8
One that considers the unique physical
characteristics and hormone levels of transgender
athletes, rather than blanket exclusions.
2. Encourage Open Categories
- Support the creation of open competition
categories where athletes of all genders, including
transgender athletes, can compete. This can
offer an inclusive alternative while respecting the
integrity of gender-specific competitions.
3. Foster Education and Awareness
- Educate communities, coaches, and athletes
about transgender identities and the importance
of inclusivity in sports. This can reduce stigma and
foster a more welcoming environment.
- Work to raise awareness about the barriers
transgender athletes face, such as discrimination,
exclusion, and the challenges related to identity
and competition.
4. Combat Discrimination
- Support or join advocacy groups working
to protect transgender athletes’ rights. This
includes fighting against discriminatory policies
and ensuring access to fair competitions without
unnecessary medical requirements.
- Challenge harmful narratives in public
discourse that misrepresent transgender athletes by
offering facts, empathy, and personal stories from
the transgender community.
5. Support Research on Fair Competition
- Advocate for or fund scientific research to
better understand the impact of hormone therapy
and other treatments on athletic performance.
This evidence can help create fairer, more
informed policies.
- Push for evidence-based guidelines that ensure
fairness while allowing transgender athletes to
compete at high levels.
6. Create Safe and Supportive Spaces
- Encourage teams and organizations to build
inclusive environments where all athletes feel safe
to express their identities, including transgender
individuals.
- Offer mentorship and emotional support to
transgender athletes, helping them navigate the
unique challenges they face.
7. Amplify Transgender Voices
- Listen to and uplift the voices of transgender
athletes themselves, allowing them to share their
experiences and advocate for the changes they
need in sports.
- Engage in dialogue with stakeholders, including
athletes, sports organizations, and advocacy
groups, to ensure transgender perspectives are
heard and considered.
8. Be a Visible Ally
- Show visible support by speaking up for
transgender athletes and their rights in public
forums, on social media, and in your community.
- Attend games, competitions, or events where
transgender athletes are participating to show your
solidarity.
9. Lobby for Legal Protections
- Advocate for stronger legal protections against
discrimination for transgender athletes, ensuring
they have equal access to participate in sports at all
levels.
- Support legal efforts to challenge exclusionary
laws or policies that unfairly target transgender
athletes, particularly in youth and school sports.
By taking these steps,
we can help build a
sports culture that
values inclusivity
and fairness while
recognizing the
dignity and humanity
of all athletes,
including those who
are transgender.
BY the Numbers How to
Score MEN! by jaz
We are ProDating, ProSex and ProResponsibility
But Let’s face it—meeting new people and
hooking up in a gay bar can be both hard and
fun, often both. But honestly, if you’re going to
put in the effort, do it at a place worth your time,
like the Toolshed bar. It’s not just a bar; it’s a
world-renowned gay destination with history and
character. Morning or night, it’s got that “come
as you are” vibe—none of that “that’s my seat”
nonsense or the “what do you drive?” judgmental
nonsense you get at some other spots. Sure, there
are plenty of decent bars around, but let’s be real:
it would be hard to match the Toolshed’s variety
and longevity.
I call it a Color Purple bar—whether you’re old,
ugly, or blessed with God-given beauty like all my
exes who never even set foot in Texas, anyone can
score in any bar. But a world-class, destination bar?
Now that’s where the real magic happens. You
have more options, more variety, and way more
potential for bad decisions, then you can shake
your stick.
Pro Hint: Peole that know my relationship success
also know in the beginning, it’s crucial to approach
people with a lot of respect respect, more then
basic communication skills, and at least can
pretend you can read the room. You’re not starring
in a rom-com, so here’s how to not completely
crash and burn when navigating the scene, like
your jimmy dean looking for some sausge!
DO
1. Be Respectful and Confident
- Confidence is attractive. Approach people with
a positive attitude and be open to conversations.
- Respect boundaries and be mindful of personal
space. Be forgiving, ff someone isn’t interested,
take it in stride and move on politely.
2. Start with Conversation
- Make eye contact and smile to show interest.
This can be a great, nonverbal way to signal that
you’re open to interaction.
- Strike up a casual conversation—Listen actively
and avoid dominating the conversation. Engage
and show interest in what the other person is
saying.
3. Body Language is Key
- Pay attention to body language. If they lean in,
make prolonged eye contact, or touch your arm,
these are good signs of interest.
- Likewise, respect when someone’s body
language is closed off (crossed arms, looking
away) as an indication they may not be interested.
4. Gauge the Atmosphere
- Gay bars can have different vibes depending
on the crowd or event. Some nights may be more
social or hookup-oriented, while others could be
more casual and about hanging out with friends
Feel out the vibe and adjust your approach
accordingly.
5. Flirting
- Flirting can be fun, so don’t hesitate to lightly
tease or joke around to create a playful connection.
- Compliments that are genuine go a long way. A
compliment about someone’s style, smile, or dance
moves can break the ice.
Don’ts
Avoid giving off that fidgety serial killer vibe—
no one’s into the guy asking where to buy duct
tape” Trust me, nothing kills the mood faster than
sounding like you’re one step away from a true
crime podcast feature or know everthing.
Respect the ‘No’
- Rejection happens to everyone, and the gay bar
scene is meant to be a fun place to meet people—
not everyone will be a match.
Love, Venezia is Pure Beauty
Film Wows Fans at Cinema Diverse LGBTQ Film Festival
By Skip Sheffield
Love, Venezia wowed
audiences at last week’s
Cinema Diverse: The Palm
Springs LGBTQ Film Festival.
Directed and written by Steve
Balderson, the film is a
heartfelt exploration of his
own journey through Venice
after a painful breakup.
The film deftly tackles the
idea of transcending
judgment and finding love in
everyone we meet, sending a
powerful message in today’s
divided world. The city of
Venice plays an essential
role, too, representing love’s
endurance and resilience—
much like the city itself, which
has stood the test of time and
hardship. Love, Venezia is
not just a visual love letter to
Venice but a profound
reflection on rediscovering
love and connection.
Love Venezia will release worldwide in 2025.
from psge 2 necessarily translate to healthy family
dynamics. In these cases, the pressures of
maintaining a public image, misunderstandings,
and control have created significant rifts between
parent and child.
Elon Musk’s relationship with his child, Wilson, is
particularly troubling, as Musk’s public comments
reflect a deep misunderstanding of Wilson’s
identity. Prioritizing his online persona and public
approval over his child’s well-being has led to
a significant disconnect. Similarly, Brad Pitt’s
children have distanced themselves, with public
criticisms from his son and his daughter Shiloh
dropping his surname. These examples show how
fame and wealth can amplify family issues rather
than solve them.
Jennette McCurdy’s memoir, *I’m Glad My
Mom Died*, offers a raw glimpse into the
damaging effects of a controlling parent.
Although McCurdy’s reflections on her mother
are somewhat affectionate, the impact of that
relationship is undeniable. The challenges she
faced reveal how personal relationships can be
strained even without the added pressure of
celebrity status.
These cases underscore the importance of
fostering healthy parent-child dynamics. Fame,
wealth, and public personas should never come
before understanding, empathy, and respect for
one’s children. Whether it’s Musk’s relationship
with Wilson or the struggles faced by Pitt’s
children, these stories highlight the damaging
effects of putting personal or public priorities
ahead of family.
difficult, and many young people face rejection
or misunderstanding from their families. This can
have a serious impact on mental health, leading
to depression, anxiety, or even suicidal ideation.
Supportive parenting during this time is essential.
Parents should offer unconditional love and
acceptance, educate themselves about LGBTQ+
issues, and create a safe and affirming home
environment.
Open communication is key—children need
to feel heard and accepted for who they are.
Encouraging dialogue, spending quality time
together, and showing respect for each other’s
perspectives helps to strengthen the parent-child
bond. It’s important for parents to model positive
behavior, practice healthy conflict resolution, and
seek support for themselves when necessary.
For parents of LGBTQ+ children, offering
reassurance that “Gay is OK” before their
children feel the need to come out can make
all the difference. Parents who take proactive
steps to support their child’s identity help build
a foundation of trust and understanding. By
fostering a nurturing and open environment,
families can navigate the complexities of
relationships with greater ease and compassion.
At the end of the day, the well-being of our
children—whether they are navigating fame,
identity, or the challenges of growing up—
should always come first. Parents who prioritize
communication, understanding, and love will find
their relationships with their children strengthened,
despite the pressures of public or personal life.
For LGBTQ+ youth, these challenges can be
magnified. The coming-out process is often
government officials regarding the internment
included these: “”THE JAPANESE RACE IS
AN ENEMY RACE...AND WHICH MANY
SECOND AND THIRD-GENERATION
JAPANESE BORN ON AMERICAN SOIL,
THEREFORE FOLLOWS THAT ALONG
THE VITAL PACIFIC COAST THE JAPANESE
AT LARGE TODAY ARE POTENTIAL
ENEMIES. THERE ARE INDICATIONS
THAT THEY ARE ORGANIZED AND
READY FOR CONCERTED ACTION AT A
FAVORABLE OPPORTUNITY.”
THE VERY FACT THAT NO SABOTAGE HAS
TAKEN PLACE TO DATE IS A DISTURBING
AND CONFIRMING INDICATION THAT
SUCH ACTION WILL BE TAKEN”
Quoted from a report by General George DeWitt.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt, February 11,
“IT IS SAID, AND NO DOUBT WITH
CONSIDERABLE TRUTH THAT EVERY
JAPANESE IN THE UNITED STATES WHO
CAN READ AND WRITE IS A MEMBER OF
THE JAPANESE INTELLIGENCE SYSTEM”.
FBI report
These actions, documents, photographs, books,
and a Broadway play are depictions of harsh,
overreaction,
indicating racial
discrimination
and xenophobia
at an extreme
level prompted
by war and fear.
It was several decades until 1988 that a
Congressional Apology was granted, apologizing
on behalf of the nation for the “grave injustice”
done to persons of Japanese ancestry, Congress
implemented the Civil Liberties Act. Congress
declared that the internments were “motivated
largely by racial prejudice, wartime hysteria, and
a failure of political leadership,” and as a result
authorized a $20,000. payment to Japanese
Americans who suffered injustices during World
War II. In some situations for Japanese victims,
this amount was to replace their residence or
business that was taken from them and no longer
available after returning from the camps.
This is an imminent warning that we are in an
election year in which one of the candidates
who is a convicted criminal and displays all
of the xenophobic, racial, hatred, of certain
people referred to as illegal immigrants by
him and his cultish followers. That we could
make another grave error in judgment by
electing this criminal and allowing more
disaster to happen to innocent people.
from psge 2
Her journey, rooted in her parents’ immigrant
experiences, reflects resilience, ambition, and a
commitment to public service.
Born in 1964 in California to Donald Harris
and Shyamala Gopalan, Kamala grew up in a
household that valued education and activism.
Her mother, a renowned cancer researcher,
instilled in her the importance of hard work
and perseverance, while her father, a professor
of economics, encouraged critical thinking and
civic engagement. This nurturing environment
shaped Kamala’s worldview, fostering a deep
understanding of the challenges faced by
marginalized communities.
From an early age, Kamala was inspired by her
mother’s dedication to science and justice. She
often accompanied her mother to protests,
where they fought for civil rights and equality.
These formative experiences ignited a passion
for advocacy, leading her to pursue a law degree
at Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco.
After graduating, she began her career as a
prosecutor, tackling issues such as gang violence
and drug trafficking.
Throughout her political journey, Kamala faced skepticism
and prejudice. Critics often underestimated her intelligence
and capabilities, labeling her as “unqualified” or “too
ambitious.” Yet, she consistently proved them wrong, rising
through the ranks to become the Attorney General of
California and later a U.S. Senator. Her dedication to
social justice, criminal justice reform, and healthcare has
earned her a reputation as a fierce advocate for the voiceless.
As Vice President, Kamala has continued to
challenge stereotypes and break down barriers.
Her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic,
focus on economic recovery, and commitment to
addressing climate change exemplify her resolve to
create a better future for all Americans.
Kamala Harris is not just a historic figure; she is
a testament to the power of determination and
intellect. Her story inspires countless individuals
to pursue their dreams and challenge the status
quo, proving that with perseverance and passion,
anything is possible. As she continues to serve, her
legacy will undoubtedly pave the way for future
generations of leaders.
Real Science
Our planet, Earth, is about 4.54 billion years old,
give or take 50 million. It’s fascinating to think
about how little we know! Modern humans, just
got here 300,000 years ago with not instructions
and took 298,000 years to build a road!
Researchers at Harvard Medical School have
uncovered how the immune system uses
interferons to combat the herpes simplex virus
(HSV) within the cell nucleus. Interferons
recruit proteins like IFI16, which create protective
barriers around the virus’s DNA, preventing its
replication. This study maps the host-pathogen
interactions crucial for developing treatments
against HSV and other nuclear DNA viruses.
Insights from this research could inform new
therapies, though further testing is needed before
human applications.
A handful of people have been cured of
HIV through intensive medical procedures,
primarily involving stem cell transplants.
These transplants use cells from donors with a rare
genetic mutation that makes them resistant to HIV.
The first known cure ddg reported on in 2008
with our beloved recently passed “Berlin patient,”
Timothy Ray Brown. Since then, a few more cases
have been reported, but these treatments are risky
and not widely accessible. Current HIV treatments,
known as antiretroviral therapies (ART), can
manage the virus effectively but must be taken
daily for life. Scientists hope that these exceptional
cases will pave the way for more accessible and
effective treatments in the future.
Scientists have discovered that deep-sea
currents off the coast of Mozambique are far
more variable than previously thought. Using
34 acoustic Doppler current profilers, researchers
found that the speed and direction of these
currents change significantly, challenging the longheld
belief that they flow steadily from south to
north. This new data suggests that current models
used to track sediment and pollutants in the deep
sea need to be updated to reflect these dynamic
conditions¹.
Scientists have discovered an Earth-like planet
orbiting a white dwarf star about 4,000 light
years away, providing a glimpse into a possible
future for our own planet. This distant planetary
system, identified by astronomers at the University
of California, Berkeley, consists of a white dwarf
and an Earth-sized planet in an orbit twice as large
as Earth’s current orbit. This discovery suggests
that when our sun eventually becomes a white
dwarf, Earth could potentially survive by migrating
to a more distant orbit, although it would become
a frozen, uninhabitable world.
Scientists have discovered that the water flea,
Daphnia pulex, is evolving at an astonishing
rate. This tiny crustacean, crucial to freshwater
ecosystems, has shown significant genetic variation
even in stable environments. Researchers from
Arizona State University and other institutions
found that natural selection on individual genes
fluctuates year by year, suggesting a dynamic
process that enhances the organism’s ability to
adapt to changing conditions. This study provides
new insights into evolutionary mechanisms and
could develop strategies to protect ecosystems.
Will Member since 2020
A tale for ageing.
Is “Member since 2020” all we got now? Just a date for
our credit age? Back in the day, I’d hit the high marks,
ya know, the present. Like, I’d say, “I’m six and a half,”
or no, “three-quarters,” not counting the summer. At that
age, I learned that how ya acted was what really mattered,
that what you achieved actually meant somethin’ we history
matters.
Age even drops monuments to man because they
reflect a different age, one that we decided does
not reflect our current values. Some may disagree,
but their voices are too small to be heard, which
really upsets them. They feel cancelled, believing
their speech is protected, but if their words and
deeds are vile and insight violence, allowing them
only raises the volume of their hate.
The Beatles’ sumed it up “When you talk about
destruction, don’t you know that you can count
me out.” Brother, (fellow man,) I am as free to
rebut your speech as you are free to give it. But I
assure you free speech minght have consequenses
attached as lies about fires in crowed spaces might
see you incarecated.Violting human right are like
sexual asault, they never go away.
James Carville, a seasoned political strategist, was
oldshool called the term “communities of color”
irritating because it assumes everyone is similar.
He doesn’t like the term LGBTQ+ either because
it assumes that everybody that’s not heterosexual
is alike, which is decisively not true, and you don’t
want it to be true.”
Carville is WRONG! He is stuck in an age of
“whites only” signs, sadly that’s as far as his
generations critical thinking goes. We all know
people are different, but we are also generally
28
targeted as a whole in many ways , that the
problem. We are very different but equally targeted
nonetheless, from the onset of self identity to
our death. We face multiple threats, from minor
aggression to extreme violence. So thinking we are
all the same is no longer the think we need to fix.
if you were born during the age of enlightenment.
I ain’t sure when enlightenment peaked, but it was
‘round the time they killed RFK. Most folks were like,
‘Screw it! Be yourself, love who ya wanna, say what’s on
yer mind.’ We want laws still, but you ain’t gonna hold me
down no more. Enlightenment didn’t just crest and rolls
back like Thompson claimed it became a full-on tsunami,
sweepin’ the globe and growing. We are not going back
because we know that history, we teach CRT every
day, it is in you ghospel, our science, every ti9me
you wait in a line!
a history From segregation to firebombing Black
churches and burning LGBTQ people alive,
society’s hatred has left a legacy of Holocaust-like
proportions, so severe that we were afraid to even
claim the victims for fear of retribution. While
today there is some light, too many still live in fear.
Political leaders now freely spew hate under
the guise of free speech, which too often leads
to violence and murder. Critical Race Theory
identifies a dangerous strategy: the “Three Vs”
— Vilify, Vilify, Vilify — which is all it takes to
spark discrimination and violence. CRT correctly
predicted that opposition to the Civil Rights Act
of 1964 would be intense and multi-faceted, with
conservatives invoking everything from vilification
to states’ rights, to prevent people from managing
their own lives.
This is the history we must defend against.

While we can’t advocate gay cruising in Palm Springs
area. The following tips from our friends at gayscruising.com
might. Remember you can avoid sexually
transmitted diseases, always use a condom. When finished,
remember to collect everything (condom wrappers, tissues,
etc.) and leave the environment clean. Leave only foot prints!
Leave your valuables at home
In many cruising areas there are malicious people who take
the opportunity to steal valuables. Therefore, when you go
to practice cruising, try not to carry money, jewelry, etc., if
possible try to be accompanied.
Education and respect above all else
Not everyone in cruising areas is looking for the same thing
as you. If they tell you NO, respect and do not disturb, just as
you’d like to be respected.
Don’t hook up with minors
Remember that it is totally forbidden to mess with children
under 18. Don t trust, Verify that the person you’re flirting
with is of legal age.
Report any attacks
If you ever experience any form of aggression, intimidation,
theft, or extortion while cruising, it’s important to report it to
the local authorities. To be prepared, it’s always a good idea to
gather information about your cruising partner such as their
name, description, and license plate. The Desert Daily Guide
(DDG) has been a strong supporter of various political and
self-care issues relevant to the LGBTQ community, often
presented in publication with bits of humor. However, it’s
crucial to remember that our interest and support for LGBTQ
issues are critical, and many local print magazines are facing
closure. Losing these publications could result in losing an
essential perspective on the local village vibe!
from psge 2 Tactical X Electronic Muscle Stimulators
is a great example to explain elements of a scam.
Tactical X Abs claims to be different than previous
iterations by using military grade technology and
offering a wide range of features and options.
Overall, there are very mixed opinions on these
kinds of devices by experts.
Functional electrical stimulation (FES) devices
have been used by doctors and physical therapists
for years to treat certain injuries, prevent muscle
atrophy, and to stimulate blood flow, however,
these devices are medical grade and regulated by
the FDA.
Companies like Tactical X Abs are selling
unregulated devices that are manufactured
overseas directly to consumers. There are no
studies showing that these devices can do what the
advertisements claim, such as help with weight loss
and build muscle.
According to an FDA statement, while EMS
devices may have temporary benefits on muscles,
“no EMS devices have been cleared at this time
for weight loss, girth reduction, or for obtaining
“rock hard” abs.” Further, a study done on
athletes found that
“low-frequency (20 Hz) neuromuscular electrical
stimulation training for 12 weeks is ineffective in
inducing hypertrophy of the abdominal muscles in
trained athletes.”
Potential Red Flags
We’ve come across a number of potential red flags
regarding Tactical X Abs that often suggest this
may not be a legit product or company.
No Physical Address
While TacticalXAbs.com lists a physical address on
their website, this isn’t the location of a company
office. The company is using a mail forwarding
service and a registered agent to appear as a Las
Vegas based business.
Deceptive Advertising
The claim that this device is a high-end “military
grade” training tool is false. The Tactical X Abs
seller is simply buying these units wholesale from
overseas, rebranding the generic products with
their logo, and reselling them at a large markup.
Generic Tactical X Abs Stimulators sold on
Alibaba( Generic FES device that looks identical
to Tactical X Abs, sold on Alibaba for much
cheaper )The reality is that Tactical X Abs is a
white label product.
A white label product is one that’s manufactured
by one company but then packaged and sold by
other sellers under other brand names. Sometimes
these sellers may make it seem like they are selling
their own unique product rather than making
clear that they’re simply selling a generic product
using their own branding. An unscrupulous seller
will sometimes change the name of their product
when the original name has received too many
negative customer reviews.
Refund Issues,Based on the wording of their
refund policy it seems that getting a refund will be
very difficult if the product does not function as
expected.
Customer Reviews & Complaints
Tactical X Abs reviews from customers are
overwhelmingly negative, with concerns raised
about its quality, effectiveness, advertising, and
refund policy.
Tactical X Abs has an F rating from the BBB!
and 5 customer complaints in the past year.
Tactical X Abs customer reviews commonly
mentioned: Product Quality Issues: Persistent
complaints about the product being of low quality,
having poor adhesion, underperforming, and
having a short battery life.
from page 2 The billionaire landlords behind
the California Apartment Association
which has spent hundreds of millions
of dollars opposing renter protections?
Or do you believe the AIDS Healthcare
Foundation—the largest AIDS
organization and the Veterans’ Voices,
with Coalition for Economic Survival,
100 local elected officials, and the cities
of San Francisco, Santa Monica, and West
Hollywood VOTE yes on prop 33 The
billionaire landlords will fill the airwaves
and your mailbox with lies and deceptions
paid for by extorting exorbitant rents from
people on social security or disability.
FACTS:
Cu-rent State Law Limits Local Rent Control.
Another state law, known as the Costa-Hawkins
Rental Housing Act (Costa-Hawkins), limits local
rent control laws in three main ways. First, rent
control cannot apply to any single-family homes.
Second, rent control cannot apply to any housing
built on or after February 1, 1995. Third, rent
control laws generally cannot tell landlords what
they can charge a new renter when first moving
in. Instead, rent control can only limit how much
landlords increase rent for existing renters. Over
a few $100s ever year, at nearly 10% each year.
Better then the past few decades, home prices in
the U.S. have increased by an average of 3% to 5%
per year!
Proposition 33 eliminates Costa-Hawkins. Under
the proposition, cities and counties can control
rents for any housing. They also can limit how
much a landlord may increase rents when a new
renter moves in. The proposition itself does not
make any changes to existing local rent control
laws. Generally, cities and counties would have to
take separate actions to change their local laws.
Effects on Renters and Landlords. If
Proposition 33 passes, local rent control laws
probably would expand in some communities.
This could have many effects on renters, landlords,
and rental properties. The most likely effects are:
Benefits
Some renters who live in properties covered by
rent control would spend less on rent.
Some renters who live in properties not covered
by rent control would spend more on rent.
Some renters would move less often.
Speculations
Fewer homes would be available to rent. One
reason for this is that some landlords would sell
their properties to new owners who would live
there instead of renting it out.
Things a billionaire landlord would say
The value of rental housing would decline because
potential landlords would not want to pay as much
for these properties.
Reduced Local Property Tax Revenues. A
decline in the value of rental properties would
reduce the amount of property taxes paid by
landlords. This would reduce property tax
revenues for cities, counties, special districts, and
schools. With time, these property tax reductions
likely would be at least tens of millions of dollars
each year (annually). This is less than one-half
of 1 percent of all property tax revenue. About
half of the reduction would be property tax
revenues that would have gone to schools. In some
years, the state might give more money to schools
to cover their losses.
Increased Local Government Costs. If local rent
control laws expand, local governments could have
increased costs to carry out these expensive laws.
These costs could range from a few million dollars
to tens of millions of dollars annually. These costs
likely would be paid by fees on landlords.
Our proposition is just 23 words. It allows cities
to regulate rents the way they did until 1995
when Sacramento, at the demand of these same
billionaires, took that right away— nothing more.
Every city will decide for themselves whether or
not they need rent control. Academics and nonprofesionals
for hire can say anyting
from psge 2 This enhancement could significantly
improve the security and trustworthiness of the
voting process.allowing voters to quickly verify
their ballots and confirm their choices. This would
empower individuals to take an active role in
ensuring their votes are accurately counted.
In addition to this verification tool, incorporating
services such as fraud reporting mechanisms,
real-time updates on ballot status, and educational
resources would further enhance transparency.
These features could help voters feel more
informed and engaged, addressing concerns about
potential fraud and increasing confidence in the
electoral process.
By implementing these enhancements, we can
create a more secure and trustworthy voting
environment, ultimately empowering citizens to
participate fully in democracy. no matter if it was
papper ballots or computer tabulation.
A comprehensive voter rights bill requires us to
Navigating the political landscape requires a blend of
strategy, ethics, and communication skills. Here are some
“rules of the road” for politicians:
Integrity and Honesty: Always be truthful
and transparent. Trust is the foundation of any
political career.
Listen to Constituents: Pay attention to the
needs and concerns of the people you represent.
Their voices should guide your decisions.
Effective Communication: Clearly articulate
your policies and positions. Use various platforms
to reach a broad audience.
Ethical Conduct: Adhere to ethical standards and
avoid conflicts of interest. Your actions should
reflect the highest moral principles. By following
these guidelines, politicians can navigate their
Due to construction on Thousand
Palms Canyon Road, the visitor center
and trails managed by the Center
For Natural Lands Management are
closed through the end of September.
Valley Preserve also contains several palm oases,
For thousands of years, particles
of sand from the San Bernardino Mountains
and Indio Hills washed into the Coachella
Valley, forming a system of dunes. Today, these
dunes are part of the Coachella Valley Preserve
System, a 20,000-acre sanctuary that is home to
several species of increasingly rare wildlife. The
Coachella Valley fringe-toed lizard depends on
this unusual blow sand desert for survival, and
“swims” through the sand to escape predators or
summer heat on the desert surface. Four other
unique wildlife species can also be found here:
the Coachella roundtailed ground squirrel, the
giant red velvet mite, the flat-tailed horned lizard
and the giant palm-boring beetle. The Coachella
formed because San Andreas Fault lines allow
water flowing underground to rise to the surface.
The spectacular Thousand Palms Oasis includes
a mile-long trail that winds past pools containing
endangered desert pupfish. Native vegetation
includes creosote bush, burrobush, smoke tree and
desert lavender, part of this area’s unique habitat
for wildlife. The Coachella Valley Preserve is
administered by BLM’s Palm Springs-South Coast
Field Office and the Center for Natural Lands
Management.
ANIMALS are closer then they appear
Birds: More than 183 bird species have been
recorded here, including Gambel’s quail, blackthroated
sparrows, phainopeplas, black-tailed
gnatcatchers and American bitterns. Cactus wrens
nest among the chollas. Year-round, visitors can
view songbirds, upland birds and birds of prey.
Spring and fall are good times to view songbirds.
Other animals that live in this area include blacktailed
jackrabbits, bobcats, and sidewinders.
Reptiles may be seen in the summer. Spring
through fall is the best time to look for fish in the
pools. blm.gov continued on page 44
Living Nude!
San Onofre State Beach – Nude Area
The clothing-optional area of San Onofre State
Beach is located south of the state park beaches.
This beach, aka Gladiator Beach, is at the edge of
the state park boundary, and the only way to get
there is by hiking from the state park. San Onofre
is one of the better-known clothing optional
beaches in California.
From the linear parking lot on the bluff, there are
six numbered hiking trails (numbered 1 to 6 north
to south) that lead down to the beach. The nude
beach is south from the bottom of Trail 6. See
Bluffs Beach for more information.
Hike this trail down to the
beach, then walk south on the
beach away from the lifeguard
tower for about one-third
mile to reach the designated
clothing optional zone.
Eventually you’ll find a fence that divides the state
park from federal land in Camp Pendleton Marine
Corps Base.
San Gregorio Private Beach San Gregorio
Private Beach is a clothing-optional beach on
private property just north of the state-owned
land in San Gregorio State Beach. It’s considered
44
to be the first nude beach in America. Need
Other Ideas? While bars and sex apps are great
sometimes meeting people in the LGBTQ+
community outside of bars can be both fun
and fulfilling. Joining LGBTQ+ organizations
or attending events like pride parades and film
festivals can provide great opportunities to
connect with others. Online communities and
social media platforms designed for LGBTQ+
individuals offer safe spaces to meet new friends.
Engaging in hobbies and interests, such as
joining sports teams, book clubs, or art classes,
can also help you meet like-minded people in a
more relaxed setting. Volunteering for LGBTQ+
advocacy or support organizations is another
excellent way to build meaningful connections.
Additionally, attending educational workshops and
seminars on LGBTQ+ topics can attract a diverse
group of people and foster new friendships.
Pro Tip! Breaking the ice on a hiking trail can
be as simple as complimenting someone’s gear,
like noticing a cool backpack and asking where
they got it, or asking for trail tips if they seem
experienced. Offering a snack, like some extra
trail mix, or commenting on the beautiful scenery
can also start a conversation. Mentioning wildlife
sightings or discussing hiking plans can be
engaging topics. Sometimes, a warm smile and a
friendly “Hi, how’s it going?” is all it takes. The key
is to be friendly, genuine, and respectful.
Again having good “gaydar” can sometimes
be helpful, but it’s important to avoid making
assumptions based on desire, appearances or
stereotypes. Instead, use open and respectful
communication. Subtle hints can include noticing
shared interests in LGBTQ+ metioning the ddg
has alwas been a great gay ping. We have been here
30 years and if they ask what is it. They are not
gay but might be bi... contntinued on page 45
