AN AIRPORT AS THE GATEWAY TO THE CITY

The terminal at Zayed International Airport in the

United Arab Emirates impresses at first glance with

its roof construction: wide-span arches support a

towering, wave-shaped roof inspired by sand dunes

and geometric patterns. In order to minimise the

influence of the desert sun, the wave roof was drawn

over the façade so that less glazing is required and

external shading devices are not necessary.

"From the very beginning, our aim was for the airport to serve the emirate

and represent the city of Abu Dhabi, with a design that references the

cultural and natural environment.“
