LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
It is with great pleasure that I present our 2023 Social Report, a document that not only provides
an overview of our activities but also reflects our ongoing commitment to social responsibility and
sustainable development.
In the following pages, you will find the account of projects and initiatives through which the
action of FERCAM Echo Labs has become increasingly concrete, aiming to promote innovation
in the logistics supply chain and develop processes of circular economy, social integration, and
regeneration of living and working environments, with the help of a network of partners that is
becoming ever more cohesive, and through a social carpentry that offers employment to migrants
and other vulnerable categories.
Our mission has guided us throughout the year, enabling us to achieve significant results:
Commitment to the Community:
We strengthened our bond with the community and the territory through urban redevelopment
projects and initiatives to raise awareness among young people. These projects improved the
quality of life for citizens and made us appreciated as a reliable partner, present in the territory
with a clear value and educational proposal (42 workshops dedicated to citizens), and attentive in
caring for the common good.
Environmental Sustainability and Research:
We shared the logic of the circular economy and the practice of upcycling with partners from
diverse backgrounds (institutions, academies, and companies), making the eco-design challenge
in design more attractive and stimulating attention on the responsible consumption of resources.
Thanks to these initiatives, we were able to introduce 18.1 tons of end-of-life wood into
production, equal to 5.4 tons of CO2 saved.
Urban and Industrial Regeneration: We launched 5 new regeneration projects aimed at
transforming urban areas and industrial sites into green spaces that enhance the appearance and
functionality of our cities while promoting the well-being of workers, students, and communities.

Inclusion and Diversity:
We created 6 dedicated training and work integration paths to offer concrete opportunities to
people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Our commitment in this regard was recognized by the
UNHCR with the "Welcome. Working for Refugee Integration" logo, a prestigious acknowledgment
that encourages us to continue improving to ensure equal opportunities for all workers.
Everything you will read in the following pages is the result of teamwork involving employees,
partners, suppliers, and all our stakeholders, allowing us to look to the future with optimism,
ready to seize new opportunities and overcome any challenges, always with the goal of leaving a
positive footprint along our journey together!

METHODOLOGY USED FOR DRAFTING
THE SOCIAL REPORT
The Social Report is the result of a process through which the
organization accounts for its choices, activities, results, and resource
use, enabling different stakeholders to gain knowledge and make an
informed assessment of how it interprets and carries out its social
mission.
The objective of the Social Report is to measure and communicate the
meaning and value of the work performed to strengthen dialogue and
trust with different stakeholders.
Reporting Standards
The Social Report is drafted in accordance with the Guidelines for
drafting the social report for third sector entities issued by the Ministry
of Labor and Social Policies on July 4, 2019.
The reporting period is the year 2023 (from January 1 to December 31),
which coincides with the fiscal year.
It should be noted that information regarding the meetings of the
governing bodies responsible for managing and approving the
financial statements (number of participants, key issues discussed,
and decisions made during the meetings) is included in the section
"Structure, Governance, and Administration."
The document adheres to the principles of relevance, completeness,
transparency, neutrality, period competence, comparability, clarity,
truthfulness and verifiability, reliability, and independence of third parties
as indicated in the Guidelines.

working group consisting of Bettina Baumgartner, Dino Menichetti,
Claudia Coscarella, Lorena Biasi, and Andrea Boninsegna.

FERCAM Echo Labs was founded on December 22, 2021, on FERCAM's initiative, stemming
from a simple need identified at FERCAM's Rome office: to create an eco-sustainable
relaxation area for direct collaborators, warehouse staff, and drivers, where they could enjoy
a rejuvenating break.
The Linaria association was called upon to realize this project, proposing a biodiversity
station built entirely with materials from the logistics supply chain that had reached the end
of their lifecycle. The project provided an opportunity to offer training to refugees and asylum
seekers, giving them the chance to learn a trade. From this first initiative, an operational
model was developed, enriched over time with new values and the awareness that it is
possible to make a significant and positive impact on both people and the environment,
leaving a footprint to be proud of.

The transport sector is a strategic part of the European Union's economy, directly impacting
the daily lives of citizens. It is a sector capable of generating added value and developing
new services for people and businesses while also being crucial to the competitiveness of
regions and the production system 4 .
The sector is undergoing a transition process to ensure greater environmental sustainability,
alongside its economic and employment impacts. At the European level, transport
is responsible for about 25% of CO2 emissions, with freight transport proportionally
contributing more pollution than passenger transport, accounting for 36% of sector
emissions 5 .
Among the environmental impacts of the logistics sector is waste generation, particularly
packaging 6 , which is one of the primary users of virgin materials. In the EU, 40% of plastic
and 50% of paper used are destined for packaging. If no action is taken, the EU is projected
to see a 19% increase in packaging waste by 2030, with plastic packaging waste increasing
by 46%.
Through specific regulations and policies, the EU aims to reduce per capita packaging
waste by 15% per member state by 2040, compared to 2018 levels, through reuse and
recycling efforts 7 .
In Italy in 2023, 3,330,784 tons of packaging were used, including 1,574,934 new pallets
and 944,940 reintroduced pallets (28.79%) 8 .

The waste produced is primarily related to warehouse activities. Below is a report of the
trend over the years for different types. Considering the three types, a 10% reduction in
waste was recorded in 2022 compared to 2020 9 .

FERCAM'S COMMITMENT TO A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
FERCAM, aware of the environmental impact of the sector in which it operates, constantly
monitors the production and management of waste resulting from its activities:
When it comes to packaging, special attention must be given to wood. Wood is the most
commonly used material for pallets — 90% of pallets are made of wood, while the rest are
made of plastic, metal, or cardboard. Pallets represent a key element in the global supply
chain and are used in 80% of world trade.
Pallets are mainly made of virgin solid wood, contributing to deforestation. Without
a dedicated supply chain, disposable packaging can potentially become waste, and
FERCAM Echo Labs acts to prevent this by giving them a new life.
Wood is a material that must be used consciously and carefully. It can be recycled,
repurposed, reused, or creatively recovered. In particular, upcycling is the process of
transforming materials that are at risk of being wasted into products that gain new
functions and uses, with the aim of extending their lifecycle. This process is at the heart
of FERCAM Echo Labs’ project, which aims to give new life to unused goods, preventing
waste generation while creating social, economic, and environmental value.

• Offices: paper, plastic, residual waste, electrical and electronic equipment, toner
cartridges, and neon lights;
• Workshop (to a limited extent): iron and steel, oil filters, lead batteries, and end-of-life tires;

THE INDUSTRIAL SYMBIOSIS BETWEEN FERCAM
AND FERCAM ECHO LABS
FERCAM was founded in 1949 in Bolzano as a company specializing in the transport of goods
by rail and truck. In 1963, with the acquisition by haulage operator Eduard Baumgartner, the
company expanded, becoming a multi-specialized operator while remaining a family-run
business.
In 2023, FERCAM is structured into five business sectors:
• FERCAM Transport: Offering multiple transportation solutions, FERCAM designs the most
efficient and sustainable methods to meet customers' needs.
• FERCAM Air & Ocean: Thanks to a reliable global network of partners and highly qualified
staff, FERCAM is a leader in air and sea freight transportation.
• FERCAM Logistics: FERCAM provides tailored logistics solutions, developing customized
projects and offering specialized consulting based on each client's specific needs.
• FERCAM Distribution: With an extensive network of branches and partners, FERCAM
guarantees secure deliveries with defined lead times both in Italy and across Europe.
• FERCAM Special Services: FERCAM offers a wide range of highly specialized services for
the transportation of goods related to trade shows (FERCAM Fairs & Events) and delicate
items such as artwork (FERCAM Fine Art). The team also handles exceptional overland and
overseas transportation and high-quality business and private removals.

It is within this framework that the industrial symbiosis with FERCAM Echo Labs develops,

The synergy between FERCAM and Echo Labs will increasingly strengthen a virtuous
managerial and organizational model, based on the sharing of skills and resources.

Industrial symbiosis is a process by which materials at risk of waste become raw materials for
another entity or another production process. This creates an interdependent relationship where
energy and materials continuously circulate, following the principles of a circular economy.
Territorial collaboration and the provision of services for common needs help reduce production
costs and environmental impact while improving the well-being of the entities involved and the

FERCAM Echo Labs is a permanent research and innovation lab that develops concrete
and scalable solutions co-designed in partnership with businesses, universities, schools
and youth, local authorities, and Third Sector organizations, starting from the territory

The UN 2030 Agenda is an action plan for people, the planet, and prosperity, signed in September
2015 by the governments of 193 member countries of the United Nations. The Agenda highlights
the limitations of the current model of human and social development and encourages a shared
vision of the necessary changes, setting 17 SDGs and 169 targets to be achieved by 2030, to which
all citizens, businesses, and institutions can and must contribute.

'Goal 17 of the 2030 Agenda – partnerships for
the goals – is the last on the list, but for us, it is
the most important because the objectives outlined
in the previous 16 cannot be achieved without real
collaboration between governments, the private and
public sectors, and civil society. Our main project
involves recovering disposable materials used by us
and our clients for packaging and handling goods, giving
new life to this waste by creating furniture for companies
and communities (schools, public parks, libraries, etc.).
All of this is done in collaboration with universities
and non-profit organizations, while promoting social
inclusion through professional training programs aimed
at individuals in need, people with disabilities, political
refugees, or asylum seekers.'

STATUTORY ACTIVITIES
FERCAM Echo Labs carries out activities of general interest as indicated in its Statute
and identified concerning those provided for by the Third Sector Code 10 . It should be
noted that the scope of activities presented is broader than those actually carried out in
this first year. The following activities are highlighted, representing the subject of social
reporting. It is noted that, in 2023, no other activities were carried out.
The company's purpose is to carry out activities in the following sectors:
• environmental Protection and Resource Management: Interventions and services aimed
at safeguarding and improving environmental conditions and the careful and rational
use of natural resources, excluding activities regularly conducted for the collection and
recycling of urban, special, and hazardous waste. (e)
• Job Placement and Re-Integration: Services aimed at the placement or reintegration of
disadvantaged workers or people with disabilities. (p)

The Assembly is convened by the President of the Board of Directors or

Board members must not be under legal restrictions, subject to preventive measures ordered
by judicial authorities, or have a final conviction. The role of administration is incompatible
with holding a similar position, with the existence of employment relationships, with
continuous consultancy relationships, with remuneration for work performance, and with
other financial relationships with other third-sector entities that compromise independence.
Board members must have at least three years of experience as volunteers or equivalent
professional or intellectual activities related to the social purpose.
The Board of Directors has all the powers of ordinary and extraordinary administration,
excluding those reserved by law or the Statute to the shareholders, and it can delegate
or revoke authority. The Board may appoint, replace, and dismiss a General Director,

Board members are entitled to reimbursement for expenses incurred for their office.
However, in line with FERCAM Echo Labs’ sustainability goals, online meetings are preferred

PRESIDENT
Dino Menichetti
Born in Rome in 1973, he started his career path in 1996 in
a transportation and logistics company in Pomezia (RM) and,
since 2017, has been Regional Manager of FERCAM. In 2020,
he joins the project group for the Strategy of the Distribution
business division, with responsibilities on the definition of
safety and operational standards on assets and equipment. In
particular, he becomes the face of the innovative Emission Free
Project, a program to transition to low environmental impact
solutions. In 2021, he is appointed president of FERCAM Echo
Labs.
COUNCILWOMAN
Bettina Baumgartner
Born in Bolzano, Italy, in 1989, after studies in Economics
and Business and Financial Markets and a master's degree in
Hospitality Management in Paris, she began her work abroad.
In 2015 she returned to Italy and took a responsible position
in digital marketing for a European sportswear player. In 2017
she starts working in the family business FERCAM, holding
the position of CRM Project Manager. Shortly afterwards, she
is given the role of Innovation Manager for which she follows
several digitization projects within the company. In March 2021
she founds FERCAM Future Labs with the goal of supporting
and investing in innovative technologies and startups. At the
end of the same year, she is appointed Managing Director of
FERCAM Echo Labs.

SUPERVISORY BODY
The Supervisory Body 13 serves for three fiscal years and monitors the social purposes of the social
enterprise 14 . If all members of the supervisory body are registered auditors, the Supervisory Body
may also conduct legal audits where prescribed by applicable regulations.

Founded in Rome in 2011, this association promotes reflection on diversity
– botanical, social, and cultural – through projects, installations, events, and
books. Its goal is to foster dialogue and encourage active citizenship.
Together, we promote urban regeneration projects to bring nature back into
cities. We prioritize the use of waste materials from the logistics sector and
solutions that encourage environmental respect and the spread of nature,
such as the FERCAM Echo Park, a true Biodiversity Station.
This cooperative, with over 1,500 employees, provides nearly 2 million hours
of care annually in Italy, assisting more than 7,500 vulnerable individuals or
those experiencing health and humanitarian emergencies. Together, we carry
out training and professional retraining initiatives through workshops and
internships aimed particularly at migrants, offering skills to facilitate access
to the job market and income opportunities.
In 2023, FERCAM Echo Labs closed the year with a staff of 3 full-time
employees: two with permanent contracts and one with a fixed-term
contract. Among them, two work in the carpentry shop and are classified
as workers, while the designer is part of the staff and classified as an
office employee. During the year, 3 training internships were hosted, 2
of which were still active at the end of the year. Apart from the only
woman, all FERCAM Echo Labs workers belong to vulnerable categories,
specifically asylum seekers and political refugees who are offered an
opportunity for professional training and work autonomy. This gives the
carpentry shop its nature as a social carpentry shop.
'Welcome. Working for Refugee Integration' Logo
For its significant commitment to supporting migrants, for the second
consecutive year, FERCAM Echo Labs was recognized by the UNHCR with
the "Welcome. Working for Refugee Integration" logo. This prestigious
acknowledgment is awarded annually to companies that stand out for
promoting pathways to the social and work inclusion of refugees in Italy.
Launched in 2017 by the UNHCR in collaboration with the Ministry of
Labor and Social Policies, Confindustria, the Global Compact Network
Italy, and the Italian Association for Personnel Management (AIDP), the
Welcome. Working for Refugee Integration project celebrated its sixth
edition in 2023.
In 2023, 185 companies were awarded for having facilitated the
employment of nearly 9,300 refugees during 2022 16 .

During the year, FERCAM Echo Labs also
joined the WelcomeNet program, a network of
over one hundred civil society organizations
that manage public and private employment
services. WelcomeNet is a qualified network
promoting relationships among multidisciplinary
stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of
inclusion interventions, expand labor market
access opportunities, and recognize the value
of local partners operating in various territories.

The employment contract applied is the CCNL (National Collective Bargaining Agreement) for
employees of Third Sector Associations and Organizations, with a total expenditure of €63,910. As
of December 31, 2023, the ratio between the highest and lowest gross wages of employees was
1.09. The social enterprise can count on the fundamental support of FERCAM. The company, in fact,
not only provides the headquarters and spaces but also allocates 50% of a person’s role as CSR

UPCYCLING
BOOKCROSSING PARCO DEL TINTORETTO
A collaboration between associations, institutions,
and companies to create valuable resources for
citizens and the local community.
This project, strongly supported by the association
7+1 Ottavo Colle and endorsed by the councilors
of Rome's VIII Municipality, was born from the
collaboration with Ridaje, a non-profit association
with which FERCAM Echo Labs shares many values.
Ridaje provides gardening services to rehabilitate
abandoned public green spaces by employing
homeless people in Rome, giving them the opportunity
to train and work as urban gardeners.
Specifically, for this area, a bookcrossing library was
created to provide families and students in Rome's
VIII Municipality an additional reason to frequent
Parco del Tintoretto, a space where collaboration,
sustainability, and culture converge, allowing for the
sharing of stories, ideas, and literary passions.
For the construction of the library, various materials
recovered from FERCAM's logistics activities
were used: crates previously used for transporting
artworks, wood from packaging used for transporting
goods, truck tarpaulins, and transparent panels used
in offices during the pandemic.
Next Steps
Consolidate the partnership with Ridaje to reach
other companies and new territories to involve them
in virtuous Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

'With FERCAM Echo Labs, a synergy was immediately born
due to the positive resonance of shared values. Giving a
second life to things, but above all, to people. The library,
made with recycled packaging and plexiglass dividers
used during the pandemic, was enthusiastically received

for cultural initiatives, from reading a book to sharing
a moment of conviviality. This is why we are proposing
several projects to create a line of urban furniture to spread

FERCAM CANTEEN IN RHO
A new relaxation area for staff break times.
The new canteen was created at the FERCAM
Milan Rho headquarters and offers a relaxing and
comfortable space where staff can have lunch and
celebrate events (promotions, retirements, birthdays,
etc.).
The wooden planks from the pallets used daily to
move goods and the tops of crates used to transport
artworks in the Fine Art division were repurposed
to create an underground-style brewery with a large
counter and dining tables accompanied by seating,
recycling bins, stools, and support tables. The walls
were personalized with a design solution reflecting
the specifics of the project's context: the skyline of
Milan and many "cloud-shaped" coat hangers. The
project also offered an opportunity for an awareness
initiative involving staff from FERCAM branches in
Rome and Milan: the bench coverings were entirely
made from disused denim fabric from colleagues.
Next Steps
Enhance the canteen as a social space to strengthen
relationships among workers, possibly through
family involvement.

PROLOGIS PARK ROMENTINO (NO)
Continuing the project launched in 2022 to make
the logistics park more accessible and promote
socialization.
As part of the PARKlife project developed by
Prologis, eco-sustainable furniture was created for
a relaxation area dedicated to workers and the local
community at the Prologis Park logistics center
in Romentino (NO). Tables, benches, planters, and
relaxation seats were made using pallets and other
disposable packaging materials from logistics
activities, following a circular economy model.

with the redevelopment of other common areas

PARKlife is a project promoted by Prologis – a world leader in real estate – aimed at transforming

Creating an exhibition with modular eco-design
furniture made from recycled materials to
encourage visitors to reflect on reuse, upcycling, and
environmental sustainability.
Echo Labs and FERCAM were Sustainability Partners
of the XIV Florence Biennale. The agreement
included sustainable logistics services, furnishing
the exhibition with wooden furniture made in Echo
Labs' carpentry shop, and a fascinating performance
featuring a group of street artists reinterpreting some
crates used for transporting artworks.
The seating in the lounge areas and a bookshop,
entirely made from crates used for transporting
artworks, offered visitors a place to pause and
reflect on the endless potential for reusing available
resources.

FABIO CONCATO CONCERT – SUONI
CONTROVENTO
Promoting the ESG approach in the context of music
and cultural events.
FERCAM Echo Labs was a Sustainability Partner
for one of the most prestigious events of the 2023
edition of Suoni Controvento, a series of cultural
events aimed at discovering the Umbrian region
through artistic representation.
The Fabio Concato concert, held at the Arnaldo Caprai
Vineyards in Montefalco, provided the opportunity to
present the Echo Portal, an eco-design installation
made from reclaimed wood to inspire reflection on the
commitment needed to preserve the fragile beauty
around us and encourage personal responsibility.

TRAVEL LITERATURE FESTIVAL
Promoting the ESG (Environmental, Social, and
Governance) approach in the context of cultural
events.
FERCAM Echo Labs was chosen as the Sustainability
Partner for the XIV edition of the Travel Literature
Festival, a project of the Italian Geographical Society
held in Rome since 2008. The event’s theme and
collaboration revolved around the claim "Changing
Environment": an invitation to both a physical
and contextual change through travel, but also an
awareness of the urgent need to address the climate
crisis.
FERCAM Echo Labs participated by furnishing the
external spaces of the beautiful Villa Celimontana
and Palazzetto Mattei, which hosted meetings,
awards, readings, workshops, and walks. During
the event, the 2023 Navicella d’Oro Special Prize for
literature was awarded to Carmen Yáñez Sepúlveda
and posthumously to Luis Sepúlveda, her companion.
At the entrance to the exhibition, guests encountered
a striking installation made from crates used by
FERCAM for transporting artworks, inspired by the
theme of travel.

ECOMONDO TRADE FAIR IN RIMINI
Creating an exhibition with reclaimed materials
to promote reflection on the responsible use of
resources, upcycling, and biodiversity.
Ecomondo is one of the most important European
events in the green and circular economy sector,
providing a forum for dialogue between industries,
stakeholders, policymakers, opinion leaders, local
authorities, the research community, and institutions
about the EU's environmental policy development
strategies.
The partnership with Urban Beekeeping – an
association that promotes the adoption of beehives
in companies, schools, and communities – led to the
creation of an eco-sustainable stand, built exclusively
from reclaimed materials and wood from the logistics
and transport supply chain.

Creating an exhibition with reclaimed materials
to promote reuse, upcycling, and environmental
sustainability through modular, reusable eco-design
furniture.
The Transport Logistic Fair in Munich, one of the
most important European events in the sector,
provided the opportunity to showcase the potential
of sustainable exhibitions. Wooden furniture with
various functionalities and green islands made from
aromatic plants, herbs, and flowers were created.

the carpentry shop to teach students about the characteristics and

'Having FERCAM as a partner of the Sustainable
Operations and Supply Chain (SOSC) Monitor at SDA
Bocconi School of Management brings great added
value to the development of research projects with
high environmental and social impact. Thanks to the
experience and contribution of Echo Labs, the SOSC
Monitor decided to include it among the companies
in the project ‘Driving Social Sustainability Through
Operations Management,’ aimed at exploring how
companies can leverage their operational skills to
develop effective social sustainability initiatives. Echo
Labs' activities, centered on the creative transformation
of waste materials into new eco-design objects, have
been a primary source of inspiration for the entire
research project, which will present its findings in the
first quarter of 2024.'

EVENT: 'CONCENTRIC CIRCLES –
SHARED VALUES AND ACTIONS TO
GENERATE POSITIVE IMPACTS'
A collaboration between associations, institutions,
and companies to create valuable resources for
citizens and the local community.
FERCAM Echo Labs organized an event to bring
together its stakeholders around the theme of
sustainable development and virtuous practices.
The conference provided an opportunity for a talk on
sustainability, to share the 2023 results, and outline
the medium- to long-term strategy.
The event also involved guests in a solidarity
workshop experience: participants built wooden
Christmas trees, some destined for their workplaces
and one special tree for the young guests of “La
Terza Stella” at Peter Pan, a shelter designed to host
oncology patients from across Europe and their
families during treatment.
The initiative was enriched by the collaboration of
students from an elementary school in the outskirts of
Rome, who were tasked with painting the decorations
during a dedicated meeting to introduce the project,
encouraging them to reflect on the themes of reuse,
solidarity, and hospitality.

FESTIVAL DEI DUE MONDI WORKSHOPS
Partner of the Fondazione Festival dei Due Mondi
for a sustainability project.
In June, Echo Labs social carpentry was invited to
participate in the 66th edition of the Festival of the
Two Worlds as a sustainabilty partner through the
proposal of 4 types of free eco- carpentry workshops
for students and citizens.
Notable among the numerous participants was the
presence:
• of the young people from the Social Farm (Il Cerchio
cooperative) – an association committed to fostering
the social and labor integration of children with Down
Syndrome through agriculture – who brought home
home made vegetable gardens and benches;
• of the students from Patrizia Badiali Primary School
in Beroide who, with the help of parents, teachers
and carpenters from Echo Labs, built furniture for the
outdoor classroom at their school, which reopened
in September after being closed due to damage from
the 2016 earthquake;

At the Milan Design Week to present a new industrial
symbiosis project.
In the splendid setting of the Republic of Design, a
temple of Circular Economy, FERCAM Echo Labs and
FERCAM Fine Art announced the launch of the REcrate
project, which transforms the specific challenges
of the art logistics sector into opportunities for
sustainable development.

Creating diverse learning environments to transform the school into an inclusive and welcoming
hub, empowering students to take a leading role in their own education.
Amaldi High School – Rome
In the splendid setting of the Republic of Design, a
temple of Circular Economy, FERCAM Echo Labs and
FERCAM Fine Art announced the launch of the REcrate
project, which transforms the specific challenges
of the art logistics sector into opportunities for
sustainable development.
The project was introduced with a small conference
on the topic of responsible consumption and
sustainability. Throughout the duration of the
Fuorisalone, the spaces were furnished with furniture
from the cafeteria of FERCAM's Rho Milan branch,
offering guests a tangible example of the upcycling
project's potential.

Patrizia Badiali Primary School – Beroide
(Spoleto)
During the workshops held in Spoleto for the Festival
dei Due Mondi, artisans from FERCAM Echo Labs
worked alongside students, teachers, and parents
from Patrizia Badiali Primary School to co-design
an outdoor classroom and create its first pieces of
furniture.
The school reopened its doors to students after postearthquake
renovations, and thanks to this initiative,
the children will return to their school with the
exciting addition of an outdoor classroom where they
can have lessons and enjoy carefree moments. The
garden, enhanced by this project, now has a magical
atmosphere, ready to welcome the children's chatter
with a series of child-sized benches, stools, and two
small tables—one built around a tree as if they were
born together and have remained embraced ever
since!
This initiative perfectly reflects one of FERCAM
Echo Labs' goals: to involve the community in the
revitalization of a shared space and encourage
children and their families to think about mindful
resource reuse and environmental stewardship.

'Our aim of educating about environmental protection
and, more broadly, sustainability is a top priority for us—a
value we work on extensively. The collaboration with
FERCAM Echo Labs was suggested to us by the School
Councillor of the Municipality of Spoleto, Professor
Luigina Renzi, and it was a valuable opportunity for
us because it allowed us to reaffirm our educational

FERCAM Team Building
FERCAM Echo Labs offers Team Building
activities aimed at fostering relationships between
colleagues, raising awareness on the topics of reuse
and care for common spaces, and promoting the
revitalization of corporate or urban areas.
FERCAM staff from the Perugia and Terni offices
participated in a day-long workshop in Spoleto. In
the picturesque setting of Casina dell’Ippocastano,
21 FERCAM colleagues, assisted by Echo Labs
carpenters, had the opportunity to build furniture for
their own workplaces. Participants were able to see
firsthand how materials destined for disposal could
be repurposed and were particularly enthusiastic
about the idea of using pallets from their own
offices to create eco-design seating, perfectly
embodying the principles of circularity.
The event gained further significance through the
collaboration with Fattoria Sociale, an agricultural
cooperative in Spoleto that promotes the
employment of young people with Down syndrome.
They were entrusted with the catering and meal
distribution services, much to the satisfaction of
everyone involved.

INSTITUTIONAL COMMUNICATION
In 2023, FERCAM Echo Labs continued to develop its multichannel communication strategy,
further expanding and refining its activities.
The official website was enriched with new sections dedicated to events and projects,
offering more information and improving user experience.
The communication strategy aimed to create a community around the FERCAM Echo Labs
project: the frequency of posts, the dynamic and interactive approach, and the engaging
tone of voice were all designed to keep the public's attention focused on the project, also
involving followers in the successes and challenges faced.
For educational purposes and to foster positive engagement with eco-sustainability topics,
the radio podcast “Echo Vibes” was launched. The show aired weekly for a total of XX
episodes on the channels of Voice Book Radio, a web radio born within the Kennedy High
School in Rome as part of a PCTO (school-to-work program) project, reaching students
throughout Italy and much of Europe. The hosting of the show was entrusted to two young
university students who, through interviews with key figures and partners of the Echo Labs
project, shared insights and virtuous projects on circular economy, responsible resource
consumption, sustainable logistics, social integration, and much more.
This evolution in the communication strategy allowed FERCAM Echo Labs to strengthen its
online presence, enhance relationships with partners, and build a continuous and engaging
dialogue with its audience.

New European Bauhaus Prizes: In 2023, Echo Labs reached a significant milestone by
ranking among the 61 finalists out of 1,450 submissions for the New European Bauhaus
Prizes, a project initiated by the European Commission to accelerate the ecological
transition. Every year, the NEB awards the best ideas that offer tangible solutions connecting
sustainability, aesthetics, and inclusivity. Reaching the finals attests to FERCAM Echo Labs'
commitment to a more sustainable and inclusive future through a circular economy model,
transforming industrial ecosystems and promoting social economy.
UNHCR: For the second consecutive year, Echo Labs was recognized by UNHCR with the
"Welcome. Working for Refugee Integration" logo, a project through which UNHCR Italy –
the United Nations Refugee Agency – supports the integration of refugees into the labor
market by encouraging greater involvement of the private sector in collaboration with
institutions and civil society organizations, addressing all actors in the world of work.
Logistics Company of the Year 2023: FERCAM received the "Logistics Company of the
Year" award thanks to the "REcrate" project developed in partnership with FERCAM Echo
Labs. Through the upcycling of crates used for art transport, FERCAM Echo Labs turned
the challenge of the short life span of these crates into an opportunity for sustainable
development and the employment of vulnerable groups, such as political refugees and
people with disabilities. This dual achievement reflects FERCAM Echo Labs' commitment
to environmental sustainability and social inclusion, embodying the ESG (Environmental,
Social, Governance) values that are central to FERCAM's corporate vision.

The year 2023 ended with a negative operating result of €5,089.
On the revenue side, FERCAM is Echo Labs' main client, accounting for approximately 56% of
production revenue, paid for consultancy activities in the following areas:
• Designing, implementing, and measuring the positive ESG impacts of sustainability strategies and
projects, and providing training on diversity and inclusion,
• Developing employee engagement projects, such as corporate volunteer activities,
• Developing projects aimed at reducing materials at risk of waste and enhancing the measures
already in place,
• Developing communication plans for ESG projects.
As for costs, they refer to the purchase of materials for the production of goods, administrative and
consultancy services, and research, training, and education activities carried out during the year.
Personnel expenses amount to approximately €64,000.
In 2023, FERCAM Echo Labs did not receive any public contributions and did not engage in fundraising
activities.
