<strong>THE</strong> <strong>FIGHT</strong> is, once again, proud to feature the official guide for CLAW<br />
LA—the Los Angeles Leather Getaway—taking place this month during<br />
Thanksgiving weekend at a new location—the Hotel Indigo, in DTLA.<br />
The idea for CLAW (Cleveland Leather Annual Weekend) came from<br />
a conversation between Dennis McMahon and Bob Miller in October<br />
2001 while they were leather titleholders (Mr. Cleveland Leather 2001<br />
and Mr. West Michigan Leather 2001, respectively). From the beginning,<br />
CLAW was conceived as a fundraiser with no leather contest. Both ideas<br />
proved popular.<br />
According to CLAW’s Mission Statement: “Adult interest in leather,<br />
fetish and BDSM is natural and healthy. We learn that from one another<br />
in person.”<br />
Formed as a non-profit (501c3)—CLAW has donated over $1,000,000<br />
to community charities!<br />
“This year,” reveals Bob Miller, President and co-founder of CLAW<br />

GLSEN’s Rise Up LA Benefit<br />
GLSEN, the leading education organization dedicated to<br />
creating safe and inclusive K-12 schools and learning environments<br />
for <strong>LGBTQ</strong>+ youth, honored Emmy© Awardwinning<br />
actress Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary)<br />
with the Champion Award at its annual fundraising event, Rise Up<br />
LA, last month.<br />
The event, hosted by comedian and former educator Joe<br />
Dombrowski, also featured a special appearance by Alison Brie.<br />
Rise Up LA took place at NeueHouse Hollywood.<br />
GLSEN presented Ralph with the Champion Award for her<br />
dedication to supporting the <strong>LGBTQ</strong>+ community. Each year, the<br />
Champion Award is given to a role model and icon whose advocacy<br />
has inspired millions of parents, educators, and <strong>LGBTQ</strong>+ youth.<br />
Ralph’s leadership serves as a beacon of hope for <strong>LGBTQ</strong>+ youth<br />
facing harmful discrimination and legislation across the country<br />
now more than ever.<br />
Previous honorees include Annette Bening, Julia Roberts,<br />
Zendaya, Idina Menzel, Billy Porter, Jessica Biel, Octavia<br />
Spencer, Ellen Pompeo, Tim Cook, and Kerry Washington,<br />
among others.<br />
Emmy© Award-winning actress, Sheryl Lee Ralph is recognized<br />
for her portrayal of “Barbara Howard” in ABC’s<br />
hit comedy Abbott Elementary, earning the award for<br />
Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2022 and nominations<br />
for the show’s second and third seasons.<br />
She is also celebrated for originating the role of<br />
“Deena Jones” in Broadway’s Dreamgirls, which<br />
earned her Tony and Drama Desk nominations.<br />
Ralph made her film debut at 20 in A Piece of<br />
the Action opposite Academy Award winner<br />
Sidney Poitier. Her other notable roles<br />
include Mistress, To Sleep with Anger, The<br />
Distinguished Gentleman, Sister Act 2,<br />
Moesha, and Ray Donovan.<br />

My name is Bob Miller, President and co-founder of CLAW Corp, the organization<br />
that produces Leather Thanksgiving in Los Angeles. CLAW is a charity started<br />
in Cleveland, Ohio in 2001, where we hold a big annual leather event every<br />
April. This is our fourth year producing a Thanksgiving leather event in LA, and<br />
the first in our new home, the magnificent Hotel Indigo in downtown LA. Please take a look<br />
at the 10 pages inside this issue of <strong>THE</strong> <strong>FIGHT</strong> to learn more about Leather Thanksgiving.<br />
Hotel Indigo: Most Leather Thanksgiving events are at the hotel, including two big vendor<br />
marts, three online silent auctions with more than 1000 items, dozens of kinky sex education<br />
sessions for men, four pool parties, fifteen fetish speed dating games, pup/pet mosh, dance<br />
parties, meet and greets, Strip Bingo!, a darkroom, a 24 hour cigar deck, affinity socials, a<br />
fashion show, a porn star party and Kinky<br />
Kabaret, our fabulous music and comedy<br />
show finale. ALL of these events are included<br />
in the Leather Thanksgiving Package.<br />
Hope Warehouse: We’ve also rented the<br />
1611 S. Hope Warehouse, near the Indigo,<br />
to host HERCULES, a men’s BDSM play<br />
party on Friday and Saturday nights. The<br />
