A Poem
Looking back as years gone
Bye
All the nmtakes I've made
Still w()ndering why
Times have changed in so
Many ways
I think of all my
Wasted days
I know now all the things
I've done
I'm a lot older now
Notone&one
I've grown up strong
And awfully quick
And all my memories
In my mind do stick
Cooperative
EducatiOn Programs
for Students With
Special Needs
Masha Buell
A workshop· and luncheon
that will focus on Cooperative
Education Programs for students
with special needs will
be held on Friday N ovember
16, 1990 from 8:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m Brockton High
School, 90 Croatia Street.
Many students and employers
are realizing the benefits of
Cooperative Education which
allows a student to gain valuable
life and working experience
while earning school
credits. The goal of this workshop
is to broaden the base of
people who are willing to have
special needs cooperative education
students in their
employ.
Special needs students are
those who require extra support
to benefit from their programs.
They include students
who may be hearing impaired,
have limited vision, be physically
or developmentally handicapped.
Foot in Mouth
at Health Department
Alma Penn
Recently we received a letter
indicating that some children
in daycare have been
getting an . illness called
"Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease"
or coxsackie virus. It
went on to describe the
symptoms, and explained
that it is spread "through
coughing, sneezing, and in
stools (dirty diapers)" and
advised parents what they
should do if our child got the
virus.
One piece of advice was
that we should put bleach in
'
~·,
tjle dishwater or use throwaway
utensils.
Another p-iece of advice
was that we should use
throwaway diapers.
What kinds of messages do
we convey to our children
about caring for the environment
by the evident double
standards here? Does this
also mean that if my child
has this virus I should put
juice bottles or cans in the
garbage instead of the blue
pox? And what happens to
the virus contained in the
diapers once they are carried
off to the landfill site?
