LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
I want to personally welcome you to our 48th Annual Rocky
Mountain Emmy® Awards!
A lot of hard work went into making this evening possible.
A special thank-you to Events Chair Windsor Smith, Events
Vice Chair Theresa Johnson, Executive Director Jessica
O’Toole, Chapter Administrator Betsy Hauge, and the
entire event committee for months of planning. I would
be remiss if I didn’t extend a thank-you to our entire
Board of Governors. This team works year-round to make
the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter the best it can
be. I am honored to work alongside such a talented and
dedicated group of professionals. Board elections will begin
on November 15. If you are interested in running for a board
position, please submit your bio and photo to Jessica O’Toole by
November 14.
In early September, we held our Student Production Awards and Gold & Silver Circle
Induction Ceremony—it was such an inspirational day. Seeing the excitement on the
students’ faces was heartwarming and served as a wonderful reminder of why we do what
we do. It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and forget that our profession is truly
extraordinary. We capped off the day by celebrating the accomplishments of some of the
best in the business—those marking 25 years of achievement into the Silver Circle Society
and 50 years in the Gold Circle Society.
Working in the world of broadcast media is truly a labor of love. We do it to inform, to
inspire, to give voice to important stories, and to create moments that connect and uplift
our communities. It’s no secret that this past year has brought its share of challenges. As
you look around the room tonight, I hope you see familiar faces—and perhaps meet a few
new ones. This room is filled with talented individuals from across our industry: journalists,
storytellers, producers, artists, technicians, and creatives of every kind. We may represent
different organizations, genres, and platforms, but we’re all united by one thing—our shared
passion for the craft of storytelling and the impact of what we create.
As our industry continues to evolve, now more than ever, it’s important to pause, support,
and celebrate one another—and to celebrate yourselves, even if it’s just for one night.
I wish you all a wonderful year ahead, both personally and professionally!

LETTER FROM THE AWARDS CHAIR
“When you get older, you learn certain life lessons.
You apply that wisdom, and suddenly you say, ‘Hey,
I’ve got a new lease on this thing. So let’s go.’”
— Robert Redford
Welcome to the 2025 Rocky Mountain Regional
Emmy® Awards Gala! You are here because your work
was voted the best of the best in Arizona, Utah, New
Mexico, and El Centro, California.
This year, you submitted more than 900 professional
entries across 103 categories. Student entries also set a
new record, with 415 submissions. The Student Production
Awards were presented on September 6, but tonight is your
night.
It’s been my honor to serve as your Awards Chair, to work alongside
our outstanding Awards Committee, and to get to know so many of you throughout
the awards process. Our committee carefully reviewed each entry prior to judging
for any potential rules or eligibility issues. Every entry was then evaluated by a
minimum of seven qualified peer judges from ten different chapters across the
country.
I can’t emphasize enough how vital the peer judging process is—it’s truly the
foundation upon which the entire Regional Emmy® system is built. My sincere
thanks to all of you who took time to judge entries for other chapters when called
upon.
To all the nominees and recipients tonight: congratulations! Sit back, relax, and
enjoy your Gala.

CODE OF CONDUCT
THE CODE OF ETHICAL CONDUCT
The Code of Ethical Conduct (“Code of Conduct”) is a policy outlining the principles and
standards that all employees, members, and third parties acting on behalf of the Rocky Mountain
Southwest Chapter (Chapter) must follow to maintain the high standard of professional conduct
critical to the continued prestige of the organization and the National Academy of Television
Arts & Sciences (NATAS). All Rocky Mountain meetings and events are to be a safe, respectful,

volunteers, and vendors.
DEFINITION OF ETHICAL CONDUCT AND PRACTICES
The Chapter has zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment, illegal, dishonest or unethical
conduct. As such, members are expected to refrain from committing any act that will degrade
the Chapter in society, or prejudice, damage, or harm the standing, reputation, welfare and/or
best interests of the Chapter and its members. The Chapter will not tolerate, condone, or ignore
unethical conduct and is committed to enforcing these standards at all levels.
COVERED CONDUCT
The Rocky Mountain Chapter does not tolerate:
• Intimidation or threats.
• Inappropriate disruptions.
• Unwanted physical contact.
• Hurtful Language.
• Physical assault.
• Unwanted sexual attention.
• Bullying or stalking.
• Disorderly behavior as a result of public intoxication or other impairment related to substance abuse.
• Any other action or activity which could reasonably be construed as contrary or detrimental to the best
interests and reputation of the Chapter.
• A conviction of a felony or other crime of moral turpitude is also a violation of this Code of Conduct.
• Members are responsible for the conduct of their guests as well.
ENFORCEMENT
The Rocky Mountain Chapter reserves the right to remove or ban any person who does not adhere
to the Code of Conduct: If you are asked to stop any harassing behavior, STOP immediately. If
you experience or witness any form of harassment or violation of this Code of Conduct, contact:
The nearest Chapter staff member or Chapter Governor or submit an email complaint using the
contact form on our website. Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action,
up to and including but not limited to being refused admission or ejected from meetings, an
event, being barred from future events, disqualification or suspended from participation in NATAS
or Chapter competitions, or suspension or expulsion of membership. This Code of Conduct is
subject to change and may be amended, supplemented, or superseded by one or more separate

NICOLE CRITES
Journalism isn’t a job where you just clock in for a 40-hour week. It’s an
honor, a passion, and a commitment to storytelling—engaging the spirit
and purpose of every person you profile to offer greater context and
perspective to the world around us. It’s a calling Nicole Crites strives to
fulfill every day, in every story.
Driven by curiosity from a young age, Nicole began interning in high
school with the sports department at KVOA in Tucson. She later
interned for “48 Hours” in New York, where she got a taste of network
news. Nicole was the only intern sent out of state to track down leads
she pitched, and one of only two who showed up during off-hours for
breaking news. Because of that dedication, she was entrusted with booking
live guests when John F. Kennedy Jr.’s plane crashed off the coast of Martha’s
Vineyard in 1999.
In her senior year at the University of Arizona, Nicole landed a weekend assignment
editor and part-time reporter position at KVOA. After graduation, she sent out tapes and was hired within
months to report at KREM in Spokane, Washington. Nicole left her morning anchor role in Spokane to
return to Arizona, start a family with her high school sweetheart, David, and report for CBS 5 (KPHO).
She was later promoted to morning anchor, earning an Emmy® for her field anchoring during the 2011
assassination attempt on Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and for her “Keeping the Promise” series
featuring the struggles and successes of military families and veterans.
Nicole moved to anchor Good Evening Arizona when CBS 5 merged with 3TV in Arizona’s first television
duopoly. She was eventually promoted to main evening anchor, where she continued winning Emmys® for
both breaking news and feature reporting—marking more than 20 years of anchoring at the same station.
Throughout her career, Nicole has interviewed countless newsmakers and celebrities, but her favorite stories
spotlight humble heroes who never seek recognition for their service and sacrifice. That same spirit fuels
her dedication to Military Assistance Mission, or MAM, where she has served on the board for more than a
decade, helping provide financial aid and support to Arizona military families. Nicole also
volunteers many hours and weekends emceeing charitable fundraisers for causes close
to her heart, including law enforcement, the military, Alzheimer’s research, health care,
small business, and leadership initiatives.

PATRICIO GUTIERREZ
“Do your best, no matter what kind of job you get—be the best.”
Though it may echo an old Army motto, these words, spoken in
Spanish by Patricio Gutierrez’s father around 1977, carried a deeply
personal message. He was a man with only a basic education who
taught himself to succeed, driven by a single purpose: to provide for
his family. His work ethic became Patricio’s greatest inspiration.
Gutierrez began his education at San Antonio de Padua, a Catholic
school affiliated with the Franciscan order. In 1973, he enrolled in a
vocational high school and graduated five years later with a public
accounting diploma. This qualification led to his first job in 1978 at Chile’s
National Television, working in the accounting department.
He later served as personnel manager at what is now Grey Advertising before
returning to National Television in program production—an experience that sparked his
passion for communication. After immigrating to the United States in 1985, Gutierrez earned a Bachelor of
Arts in television with a focus on communications from Grand Canyon College in 1992. That same year, he
joined Univision as a traffic assistant and eventually rose to newscast director, production supervisor and
executive producer. During his tenure, he helped elevate the newscasts to become the No. 1 news program
in the Phoenix market, regardless of language. Since 2017, Gutierrez has served as managing editor and
executive producer at Telemundo Arizona, with a mission to lead Noticiero Telemundo to the top spot in the
market—a goal he proudly accomplished. Throughout his career, he has held closely to his father’s advice:
“Do your best. Be the best.”
Gutierrez holds several honors for his work, including eight regional Emmy® Awards, an AP Arizona Award,
the APTRA Mark Twain Award and the Gabriel Award.
He is also the co-founder of the Chilean Cultural Center of Arizona, a nonprofit
organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Chilean heritage. He helped
create a folkloric group that teaches and performs Chilean music and dance in
public schools, universities, churches and cultural events—including performances
at the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM). He continues to serve on the center’s
board of directors.

DAVID MAJURE
For more than three decades, David Majure has been telling Arizona’s
stories—capturing its people, places and history with skill, heart and
authenticity. A 36-year veteran of
Arizona’s broadcasting landscape, Majure has dedicated his
career to creating meaningful content that connects viewers to
the state he proudly calls home.
After earning his degree in broadcasting from Northern
Arizona University in 1989, Majure began his career at KAET-TV
(Arizona PBS), producing for the respected news and public affairs
program Horizon. In 2001, he took on a new challenge when the
Arizona State Senate recruited him to help launch Arizona Capitol
Television—a C-SPAN-style service that live-streams legislative
proceedings.
He returned to KAET-TV in 2007 to create content for Horizon and Arizona Stories, a series that
explored defining moments in the state’s history. In 2013, Majure embraced a new role as a video
producer for the Arizona Game and Fish Department, where he enjoys spotlighting the passionate
work of biologists and conservationists protecting Arizona’s wildlife and wild places.
Although retired from state government, Majure hasn’t slowed down. He continues working with
Game and Fish and has launched his own production company, MajureMotion Pictures, which
allows him to provide free and discounted creative services to outstanding local nonprofits—such
as ALS Arizona—and local bands, including The Black Moods.
A 26-time recipient of Rocky Mountain Southwest Regional Emmy® Awards
and numerous other media honors, Majure is widely recognized for his
talent, generosity and unwavering commitment to accurate storytelling.
He is married to his college sweetheart, Lauren. They live in Gilbert and
have two sons, Hayden and Sean.

DOUG MUMMERT
Doug Mummert is a “baby-boomer” born in Hollywood, California. He attended
Phoenix College and Grand Canyon University. Following a four-year tour in the
U.S. military, he joined the Phoenix Fire Department, where he retired in 2015
as a Chief - Command Officer. He was a founding member of the department’s
All Hazards Incident Management Team, an original member of the Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Urban Search & Rescue (USAR)
Team – Arizona Task Force 1. Mummert also served on the FEMA USAR
National Incident Support Team as a Public Information Officer (PIO) and
has also served as a PIO for the Phoenix Fire Department. He was also
the long-time host and producer of Phoenix Fire’s weekly radio program,
Valley Watch, which airs on several Arizona radio stations in cooperation with
Bonneville Broadcasting on KTAR FM, KPKX FM and ESPN AM. He is a Public
Safety & Media/PR and communications advocate & consultant.
Mummert’s odyssey into television and film production took off in the early 1990’s
when he started a production communications business in his “spare time.” He
worked with General Motors, Kraft Foods, Nike, the United States Army and many wellknown
TV and film production companies. In 1994, he moved into the realm of producing,
writing, directing, shooting, and editing. This all began with creating safety and training videos
for the Phoenix Fire Department. In 1997, he took over the job as managing director of the Phoenix Fire Television
Network. With the help of many, he created the program, Phoenix Fire Works, in 1998 which would ultimately fill a
void in educating and informing the public on topical public safety related issues. Thanks to an excellent collaborating
production team, this program has won critical acclaim. It has won, been nominated and recognized for many major

experience. In 2025, he was recognized for his exceptional leadership
when the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Public Affairs Unit—
under his direction—received the prestigious Director’s Unit Citation
for outstanding performance and public service.
Trent’s broadcasting journey began in his hometown of Philadelphia,
where he held a variety of roles at the nationally respected 6ABC

including serving as assistant news director at WJTV in Jackson,
Mississippi, and as an award-winning producer at Arizona’s Family in

Over the years, Trent has earned numerous accolades. In 2023, he received

INDUCTEE
LEE OLLERTON
For more than 50 years, Lee Ollerton has been fortunate to be part of the
video production community, working alongside incredibly talented
professionals and forming lasting friendships. Ollerton has always embraced the
challenge of evolving technology and have remained committed to producing
the highest quality work while mentoring others along the way.
Ollerton’s career began in 1972, shortly after his 17th birthday, when he was
hired as a studio camera operator at KUTV in Salt Lake City while still in
high school. He quickly advanced, gaining hands-on experience in camera
operation, directing, and technical directing for both news and commercial
productions. He sought
every opportunity to deepen his knowledge of video production, which led to
valuable freelance work across multiple areas.
During the 1980s, Ollerton worked with STS Production and Video West, where he
expanded his skills in editing, camera work, and directing. Notably, he served for 14
years as a handheld cameraman and technical director for Utah Jazz broadcasts, which
opened doors to additional network sports productions throughout the western U.S. One of
the most rewarding parts of his career was producing the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon for 18 years—21 hours
of live television annually that helped raise funds for children’s hospitals. Through this work, he also had the chance to
collaborate with Disney on nationally aired segments, including parade features and music videos.
From 1990 to 2018, he worked for various production companies and also operated as an independent contractor.
These years allowed him to engage in a wide range of projects—from commercials and corporate training videos to
long-form storytelling—constantly adapting to new formats and client needs.
Since 2018, Ollerton has been proud to serve as a Post Production Editor, Studio Director, and
Technical Director for PBS Utah. This role has brought meaningful opportunities to contribute
to high-quality content that educates and uplifts the community. Over the years, his work
has been honored with numerous Rocky Mountain Emmy® Awards across categories including
historical documentaries, arts programming, and environmental reporting. He is deeply grateful
for the colleagues and collaborators who have shaped his journey and for the chance to use his
craft to make a positive impact.

JUDGING POLICY
The success of the Emmy® Awards depends on the willingness of qualified professionals to serve as
judges. That’s YOU! Peers in other NATAS Chapters judge our Chapter’s entries. Our Chapter will judge
other Chapters’ entries. By entering the competition, you agree to serve as a judge when asked (at least
once in that calendar year). Your time and expertise is GREATLY appreciated. There are typically 10
opportunities to judge each year. Entrants are notified by email. You can expect to see these judging
notices regularly through the year beginning in January through October/November. 24% of 2025 Rocky
Mountain Southwest Emmy® Entrants have judged this year. The goal is 100%! Please spread the word
with your colleagues for 2026!
EXPECTATIONS: Judge at least 1 panel per entry year (entrants)
TIME COMMITTMENT: 30 minutes to 3 hours - depending on the category
WHERE DO I JUDGE?: Anywhere you have a computer - it’s all done online and doesn’t have to be done
in one sitting
DO I NEED TO BE A MEMBER/ENTRANT?: No! as long as you have at least 2 years of professional
experience

PROMOTION
All publicity, advertising or any written reference undertaken
by nominees and award recipients to the Emmy® Awards, must
clearly state that the awarded achievement is for a Regional
Emmy® Award. The word “Regional” must appear in these
instances. The recipient of a nomination or an Emmy® Award
may refer in advertising and publicity to the fact that they
have been honored only for one year after the recognition was
bestowed. They may use a replica of the Emmy® statuette in
such advertising. Individuals who significantly contributed to
the production or craft but were not honored with a statuette
cannot specifically advertise they are an Emmy® award
recipient. They can only state they worked on the recognized
program.
