The Ferguslie Learning Centre provides certificated

learning opportunities at beginner’s level within a friendly,

community environment.

This Ferguslie Learning programme is designed to assist adult learners build upon their

Employability and Life skills using a blended learning approach. The Centre is based in the heart

of Ferguslie and provides a warm welcoming environment for adults returning to learning.

Photography

SCQF Level 4

13 January 2025

9.30am – 12 noon

15 Weeks

Whether you are new

to photography or not

this course will help

you understand the

fundamentals. Tasks

include taking photos

with your digital camera

or mobile phone camera using

different approaches; learn what some of the functions and

settings mean to enable you to take the best images; compile

and present your photos. This course is suitable for those

who have an interest in developing their skills in practical

photography.

Understanding Mental Health Issues

SCQF Level 4

13 January 2025

1pm – 3.30pm

15 Weeks

This course is suitable for those interested in gaining a good

understanding of mental health and wellbeing. You will

investigate and discuss mental health issues, how to support

and promote mental wellbeing, how mental

health is portrayed in the media,

how publicity is changing

attitudes and what services

and support are available.

Criminology: Crime in the Community

SCQF Level 5

14 January 2025

9.30am – 12noon

15 Weeks

This course will look at crime and causes of crime in your

community and the best ways of tackling it; how the

mass media reports on crime, crime levels and how they

are classified. You will also consider how policing and the

criminal justice system deals with social problems and criminal

behaviour. No prior knowledge is needed, it’s for everyone

interested in gaining an understanding of different aspects of

society and crime.

This course is part 1 of 3 from the National

Progression Award in Criminology.

Allotment Gardening

SCQF Level 4

4 February 2025

1pm – 3.30pm

15 Weeks

If you are interested in growing your own fruit and vegetables,

this Allotment Gardening course may be for you. It is extremely

satisfying when your crops are ready and you are rewarded

with incredibly fresh and tasty produce. This course will help

improve your design and development skills in growing a range

of fruit, vegetables and herbs from planting to harvesting and

getting to know the “allotment calendar year” month by month.

You will also visit local green areas and discuss the importance

and impact of these on the environment.

PLEASE NOTE this class will take place mainly

outside and you should be prepared to work

in a variety of weather

conditions.

Enterprise Skills

SCQF Level 4

15 Weeks

Have you ever thought of an idea for

an enterprise activity but didn’t know how

to go about making it a reality? It could be a fundraising event,

craft making idea or setting up a business. By working as part

of a group, you will plan, develop, carry out and evaluate an

enterprise activity as part of this course. Sounds good? Give

us a call for more information or why not pop into the Learning

Centre.

No prior knowledge or experience of enterprise is needed.

Mindfulness

15 Weeks

Mindfulness is a very

powerful tool which enables

you to adopt a new mindset

with a proven, lasting impact

which can reduce your

anxiety and stress. You will

discuss how you can alter your outlook and mood from one of

negativity to positivity through focusing your awareness on

the present moment.

Computing: Communication in Administration

SCQF Level 4

17 January 2025

9.30am – 12 noon

15 Weeks

You will learn how to use IT, gather and share information with

others in an administrative context using Microsoft Office; use

the Internet for specific searches, discuss

scamming, security and how to be safe

online, online tracking. You will also

gather and communicate information

with the class, using electronic

methods.

You will need basic

computing skills to take

part in this course.

Beginners Computing

SCQF Level 2

17 January 2025

1pm – 3.00pm

15 Weeks

This course is for complete beginners and

will take you through the very basics of computing

from learning keyboard and mouse functions, the difference

between hardware and software and help you to produce a

very basic Microsoft word document. You will also use the

Internet and learn about search engines, password security and

being safe online.

No previous computing knowledge is needed for this

course.

Creative Writing: Creation and Production

SCQF Level 5

17 January 2025

9.30am – 12 noon

15 Weeks

If you are interested in creative

writing this course may be the one

for you as you will take part in

a range of written and spoken

activities with tasks including

planning, drafting and

producing written work in

different forms. The course

will raise your awareness

of the creative processes

involved in writing and

highlight how writing

can be a valuable tool

for self-expression.

This unit is SCQF Level 5 and students should have

reasonable communication and writing skills.
