THE STORY 

OF A TEAM! 

It has been especially satisfying for Sibarth Real 

Estate to reach a sales level in 2013 unmatched 

since the record year 2007, and to continue the 

same trend in 2014. 

Indeed, in the wake of the world changing financial 

crisis, with its long lasting effects on many resort 

property markets, a drastically changed environment 

pushed many agents to reevaluate their 

business models and to adapt their services. But 

Sibarth Real Estate decided to steadfastly keep 

the course through the turbulent years, adjusting 

what was needed, but reinforcing its team, its 

strategy and the marketing effort to implement it. 

The Team is what makes the difference, in our 

business as in many others. Over the years, talented 

people have joined the operation, sharing 

and spreading the company culture, while bringing 

in their own skills and energy. And when 

that is truly accomplished, as I do believe it is 

the case for us, one can call the staff a Team, a 

real one, efficient with its complementary talents. 

Naturally, one grows and matures through 

experience just as the business grows, which is 

precisely why I am so pleased to have recently 

welcomed two new partners, Chrys and Zarek, 

both long term agency employees, who have 

passionately and skillfully contributed to the 

success of Sibarth Real Estate over the years. 

Chrys Rollo, born and raised in France, has 

a Masters Degree in Law (Caen University, 

France): he is in charge of Technology and Digital 

Marketing, as well as Legal Affairs. For the last 

twelve years, Chrys has never stopped amazing 

his colleagues - including myself - by his ability 

to quickly grasp and harness the latest technology 

developments, and therefore to market faster 

and further the properties and services we are 

proud to offer. 

Zarek Honneysett, born in the US, raised in St 

Barth and educated in Canada and Scotland, 

has a Masters Degree in International Business 

(Edinburgh University, Scotland). Since 2006, 

his dedication as a Sales Agent and his extensive 

knowledge of the island has earned him the respect 

of his clients and colleagues alike. Zarek is 

now our Sales Manager, a perfect fit for a man 

with such cheerful personality and positive attitude, 

even when faced with challenges. 

As the owner, the above development brings 

me great satisfaction. Any service business 

must question itself and regenerate over the 

years, while identifying and preserving its core 

values at the origin of its success. It is essential 

for its long term prosperity, but also for the 

long term engagement that our clients expect 

from their agent, especially when investing 

away from home. I have no doubt that we, at 

Sibarth Real Estate, are exactly on that track! 

Pour SIBARTH REAL ESTATE, il a été plus 

que gratifiant de retrouver en 2013 un niveau de 

ventes inégalé depuis 2007, une année record, et de 

constater la même tendance en 2014. 

En effet, à la suite de la crise financière mondiale et de 

ses effets rémanents sur les marchés immobiliers de destinations 

touristiques, les turbulences de l’environnement 

commercial ont conduit nombre d’agents à réévaluer leur 

business model et à adapter leurs services. Mais Sibarth 

Real Estate a décidé de maintenir le cap, envers et contre 

tout, durant ces années d’incertitude, ajustant ce qu’il 

fallait, mais renforçant son équipe, sa stratégie et son 

marketing. 

Une véritable Equipe fait toute la différence, dans notre 

métier comme dans beaucoup d’autres. Au fil des ans, 

de nouveaux collaborateurs ont pris leur place au sein 

de l’entreprise, s’imprégnant de sa culture et la propageant 

volontiers, tout en lui apportant leur propre 

expertise et leur énergie. En cas d’intégration réussie et 

harmonieuse, comme dans notre cas, le «personnel» se 

transforme en une Equipe, une vraie, riche de talents 

complémentaires. 

L’expérience permet à chacun de mûrir, bien entendu, 

alors même que l’entreprise se développe. Ceci m’a 

permis d’accueillir récemment deux nouveaux associés, 

Chrys et Zarek, tous deux employés de longue date, 

qui ont contribué avec passion et talent au succès de 

Sibarth Real Estate. 

Chrys Rollo, natif de métropole, a obtenu une Maîtrise 

de Droit de l’Université de Caen. Il est Directeur du 

développement technologique et des affaires juridiques. 

Depuis douze ans, Chrys n’a cessé de nous étonner 

par sa capacité à immédiatement saisir et intégrer les 

dernières technologies, nous permettant de présenter plus 

vite et plus loin nos propriétés et nos services. 

Zarek Honneysett, né aux Etats-Unis, élevé à St 

Barth et éduqué au Canada et en Ecosse, a obtenu une 

Maîtrise en Commerce International de l’Université 

d’Edimbourg. Depuis 2006, sa détermination en tant 

que négociateur et son intime connaissance de l’île lui 

ont valu le respect de ses clients comme de ses collègues. 

Zarek est maintenant notre Directeur des ventes, une 

fonction des plus adaptées pour un homme à la personnalité 

agréable, d’une attitude toujours positive même 

face aux challenges. 

Comme propriétaire, cette évolution me procure beaucoup 

de satisfaction. Toute société de services doit se remettre en 

question et se renouveler au fil du temps, tout en identifiant 

et en préservant les valeurs à l’origine de son succès. 

C’est essentiel pour son essor à long terme, mais aussi 

pour garantir à ses clients l’engagement dans la durée 

qu’ils attendent de leur agent. Et je n’ai pas le moindre

Another day of freedom… 

To move to St Barths is to discover the art of Caribbean living, 

life under the sun and in front of the sea. The luxury and 

comfort and the natural kindness of its people should not 

make us forget that we also need to live as part of a protected 

countryside, with its extraordinary and fragile natural areas.

« Strolling between the low stone walls and the charming 

coloured « case » houses, surfboard under arm and reaching 

our meeting place - Toiny. The waves are waiting for us. Once 

in the water, it is a place of freedom and surfing. 

Returning to dry land, a wave to the fishermen and a few 

fishing anecdotes later, tasting a delicious lobster BBQ. 

The afternoon arrives, setting off to discover the mangroves 

and enjoying a refreshing siesta in the shade of a filao tree, or 

diving in to the crystal clear waters and meeting exotic fish 

and an agile turtle crossing the corals. 

The day ends in Gustavia, sitting down with a drink in front 

of the blazing colors of the setting sun and admiring the lazy 

ballet of the boats in the port. A surreal picture! 

A camp fire on the beach… laughs mingle with the sound of 

the waves… what better place for swapping memories of this 

marvelous day than under a starry sky. »

Recently renovated, this substantial 

villa found a new lease of life thanks to 

the optimization of large spaces, 

the choice of materials, 

the colours and the large bay windows 

that open out towards the sea and 

neighbouring islands. 

A transformation that is contemporary yet 

also warm and is a harmonious blend of minimalist 

design and utmost comfort. Indeed, if 

the architect likes large volumes and immense 

bay windows…he also knows how to work 

with materials that create a comfortable and 

cozy ambiance. 

Consequently the floors throughout the living 

rooms, dining room and kitchen are tiled with 

large slabs of dark grey lava stone, a texture that 

works beautifully with the white walls. 

Throughout most of the house, the superb 

wooden beams have been painted a warm 

chocolate colour. A decorative trick that 

visually lowers the height of the ceilings and 

at the same time reinforces the intimate aspect 

of the rooms. There is a beautiful, superbly 

equipped kitchen, with a central wooden 

island and large white Corian work surface, as 

well as impressive cupboards built across one 

wall and that optimise the space...letting you 

cook whilst admiring the scenery ! 

The dining room, which adjoins the kitchen, 

opens out onto the terrace and so takes advantage 

of the magnificent view across the sea. Leading 

off is the living room, with its armchairs, sofas 

and a beautifully made coffee table, it surprises 

you with its comfortable appearance. Even 

though the house has been designed with holidays 

and relaxation in mind, there is also a well 

equipped small corner office.

In just a few hours of talking and exchanging 

ideas, he was able to put down on paper 

everything that we wanted» explains Régine. 

The work lasted months, as they wanted 

a simple and comfortable house that was not 

ostentatious, nor visible from the road. 

The new owners had very specific wants and 

desires: a house that was spacious and light, 

with high ceilings but one that could also 

allow indoor living and above all, have well 

made finishings. «Our meeting with Francois 

Pecard, an architect who has lived and worked 

in St Barths for almost 30 years, was a decisive 

one for us. In just a few hours of talking and 

exchanging ideas, he was able to put down on 

paper everything that we wanted» explains 

Régine. The work lasted months, as they 

wanted a simple and comfortable house that

The Burgundy stone that tiles the floors looks

and the libraries. The red cedar ceilings bring 

warmth to the rooms and have the added advantage 

of being a natural mosquito repellent. 

The interior layout, together with the architecture, 

makes the rooms more intimate. For 

example, the lovely solid oak kitchen leads 

naturally onto the dining room but an archway 

between the two makes them more independent 

of each other. 

Instead of bay windows, the owners chose 

windows and traditional doors with shutters, 

which make the house more refined and elegant. 

The outside areas have also been carefully 

thought about and designed with care.

désirs tout à fait précis: une maison spacieuse, lumineuse, 

avec de belles hauteurs sous plafond, mais qui 

puisse aussi permettre une vie à l’intérieur et surtout 

l’utilisation de matériaux de belle facture. 

«Notre rencontre avec François Pécard, un architecte 

qui vit et travaille à St Barth depuis près de 30 

ans, a été décisive pour nous. En quelques heures de 

conversation et d’échanges, il a su transcrire sur le 

papier ce que nous voulions» explique Régine. Les 

travaux durèrent de longs mois, car ils souhaitaient 

une maison simple et confortable, pas ostentatoire ni 

visible de la route. 

Les matériaux choisis étonnent par leur qualité. 

Outre la pierre de Bourgogne qui habille les sols, 

prend joliment la lumière, se révèle chaleureuse, le 

bois massif a aussi largement sa place avec un superbe 

dressing et des bibliothèques. Quant aux plafonds, 

le cèdre rouge dont ils sont faits, apporte un côté très 

chaleureux aux volumes tout en étant un répulsif 

naturel pour les moustiques. L’agencement intérieur 

permet, grâce à l’architecture, de rendre plus intime 

les espaces. Ainsi la belle cuisine en chêne massif 

s’ouvre naturellement sur la salle à manger mais une 

voûte lui confère une certaine intimité. 

Plutôt que des baies vitrées, le choix des propriétaires 

s’est orienté vers des fenêtres et portes-fenêtres 

traditionnelles avec des persiennes qui confèrent à 

la maison un côté raffiné et élégant. Les extérieurs 

ont aussi été pensés et réalisés avec soin. Ici, pas de 

piscine hollywoodienne, mais un bassin directement 

creusé dans la roche qui épouse le relief et se révèle 

très naturel…

Here, there is no Hollywood style swimming 

pool but a pool carved out of the rocks, which 

follows the contours of the land and is very 

natural... especially with the large light grey 

wooden deck, which is great for comfortably 

lounging around in the sun. A magnificent 

garden completes the layout. «Even though 

we have gardeners, there is a part that I look 

after myself - my orchid garden» says Régine. 

The orchids thrive here, in perfect harmony 

with their environment, they bloom and wind 

themselves around the trees, creating bright 

splashes of colour in the exquisite garden.

chosen large matte grey paving stones

The whole length of the house overlooks the 

ocean and surrounding hills. The outside areas 

that are closest to the house, like the large 

terraces, are protected from the strong sun by 

lovely wooden overhangs. Several are slatted 

and let the sun through to the floor to create 

a magnificent play on shadows. A nice touch 

from the architect, who has lived and worked 

in St Barths for a number of years and who 

knows all the island’s strengths and weaknesses ! 

An infinity pool seems a natural extension of 

the home and nothing except a small low 

hedge interrupts the view over the sea, the 

islands scattered in the turquoise waters and the 

luxurious greenery of the surrounding hills. 

There is nothing ostentatious about this house 

- there is simplicity throughout yet also a high 

level of comfort. 

On entering, you cross an attractive terrace 

with a small pond, filled with crystal clear 

water, that leads directly into the heart of the 

house - a large living area, with superb dimensions. 

With high ceilings and large glass doors 

that open onto the outside, the architect has 

managed to make the room intimate, thanks to 

his choice of colours. 

In fact, althought the white walls visually 

enlarge the room, the choice of a soft taupe 

colour lowers the ceiling and brings a warmth 

to the room. To minimize the visual transition

Donnant de toute sa longueur sur l’océan et les 

collines avoisinantes, les espaces extérieurs les plus 

proches de la maison comme les grandes terrasses, 

sont protégés du rayonnement trop intense grâce à 

de belles casquettes en bois. Certaines, légèrement 

ajourées, permettent au soleil de jouer sur le sol dans 

un magnifique clair/obscur. Un plus appréciable que 

l’on doit à l’architecte qui, vivant et travaillant à St 

Barth depuis de nombreuses années, en connaît tous 

les atouts et les moindres pièges ! 

Une piscine à débordement semble être le prolongement 

naturel de l’habitation et rien, sinon une petite 

haie basse, ne vient perturber le regard qui embrasse 

le panorama sur la mer, les îlots disséminés dans 

les eaux turquoise et la végétation luxuriante des 

collines avoisinantes. Rien d’ostentatoire dans cette 

construction, la simplicité est de mise tout en laissant 

une large place au confort. 

Franchissant une première terrasse joliment agencée, 

avec un bassin d’accueil à l’eau cristalline, le visiteur 

entre directement au cœur de la maison, dans 

cette pièce à vivre aux superbes proportions. Avec 

une grande hauteur sous plafond, largement ouverte 

sur l’extérieur grâce à de grandes baies vitrées, c’est 

pourtant une pièce que l’architecte à réussi à rendre

than one and a half acres. A true paradise, set in a large garden

buildings. «What really seduced my wife and I, was the location of 

this property, its size and its traditional Caribbean inspired architecture...having 

said this, as it was built over 45 years ago, the 

villa did not really offer any home comforts ! So we decided to 

modernise it, to open it out to the sea and to take advantage of 

the stunning views that we are lucky to have on all sides», explains 

John, the owner.

It has been modernised with a great deal of 

«know-how», with the installation of large bay 

windows and the opening up of spaces, whilst 

carefully retaining the colonial style. After two 

years of work, the villa has been transformed 

into a peaceful haven, perfect for enjoying the 

Caribbean lifestyle. For the interior decoration, 

the owner Denise was heavily involved 

in the project. «I really wanted strong, joyful 

colours that brought the materials to life» she 

explains. It has been a great success, as each 

of the rooms that make up the house, surprise 

you with their charming aura. 

On this volcanic terrain, the property is in fact 

made up of three separate buildings... an ideal 

way for inviting over family and friends while 

remaining completely independent of each 

other. One of the buildings, Seadream, is rented 

separately, as it has its own superb view over 

the bay, a private entrance, a swimming pool 

and its own access to the sea ! 

If the interior plays with fine quality materials 

such as the marble floor and the solid wood 

kitchen, its is really the outside that is truly 

enchanting.

Installation de grandes baies vitrées, décloisonnement 

des espaces, si le style colonial a été soigneusement 

conservé, il a été modernisé avec beaucoup de savoirfaire. 

Après deux ans de travaux, la villa s’est métamorphosée 

pour devenir un havre de paix luxueux, 

où il fait bon profiter de l’art de vivre des Caraïbes. 

Côté décoration intérieure, Denise, la propriétaire, 

s’est beaucoup investie dans le projet. «J’avais envie de 

couleurs fortes, de celles qui font chanter les matériaux, 

qui donnent de la vie et de la joie» explique-t-elle. 

Réussite totale, puisque les différentes pièces qui 

composent la maison, étonnent par leur atmosphère 

pleine de charme. 

Sur ce terrain volcanique, ce sont en fait trois maisons 

distinctes qui composent la propriété…Une manière 

d’inviter famille et amis tout en restant totalement 

indépendants les uns des autres. Une des bâtisses, 

Seadream, se loue totalement séparée, puisqu’elle 

possède, outre une superbe vue sur la baie, une entrée 

privée, une piscine et un accès à la mer! 

Si l’intérieur joue sur les matériaux nobles comme 

le marbre du sol, le bois massif de la jolie cuisine, 

c’est surtout les extérieurs qui sont véritablement

modern stainless steel kitchen, with a fun

A large table with a thick pale wooden top is 

ideal for lunches or dinner overlooking the 

sea, while others can read or chat in the comfy 

sofas. The natural furniture in untreated wood 

or covered with linen, has been designed by 

Christian Liaigre and gives the impression of

Large cupboards, cleverly hidden by wooden

areas that are used! Here, once again, the 

architect made a simple choice and covered 

the terrace in large slabs that look like polished 

concrete…a perfect extension of the interior 

floor, it matches perfectly with the honey tones 

of the wooden deck that wraps around the 

end of the pool. A wooden overhang protects 

you from the direct sunlight and lets you stay 

outside and enjoy the changing skies and sea, 

whilst being comfortably seated on the sofa. 

Cette configuration offre l’avantage de pouvoir inviter 

famille et amis tout en gardant une parfaite intimité

Mais sous ces latitudes, ce sont surtout les extérieurs

the owners have chosen to lay the floor with 

large red polished granite tiles. Bright and 

fresh, the strong color really brings out the 

white of the walls. There is no framework 

visible, however the lovely false ceilings make 

the spaces more intimate and refine the house. 

The antique lacquered wood furniture, discovered 

on long journeys to Asia, brings an exotic 

touch to the décor.

and light, thanks to the openings at either end. 

On one side there is the terrace and the sea

rooms of the house are all spacious and 

appear even bigger thanks to the white walls 

and ceilings, yet the oak floorboards give them 

a real feeling of warmth. The clever placement 

of pillars visually separates the different living

sea and the infinity pool and terrace are an 

elegant extension. The lady of the house has 

cleverly used white for the furniture, the walls 

and the ceilings and accentuated the décor 

with cushions, rugs, paintings and carvings, 

that all bring a splash of colour.

is the large kitchen - a room that you really 

want to show off! It has white lacquered wood

Ouvertes les unes sur les autres, les différentes pièces 

de la maison sont de beaux volumes, magnifiés par 

le blanc des murs et des plafonds mais rendus très 

chaleureux par l’utilisation d’un parquet en chêne à 

larges lames. Un astucieux système de piliers matérialise 

visuellement les différents espaces de vie. 

Le grand salon s’ouvre bien évidemment sur la mer 

et la piscine à débordement en est le prolongement 

élégant. Si la maîtresse de maison a joué sur le blanc 

pour le mobilier, les murs et plafonds, elle a aussi 

utilisé des couleurs fraîches et vives qui ponctuent 

élégamment l’ensemble. Coussins, tapis mais aussi 

peintures et gravures apportent des touches colorées. 

Ouverte sur le salon, tout en étant en retrait, la 

grande cuisine est une pièce où l’on a envie de faire 

salon! Des meubles en bois laqués de blanc, de grands 

plans de travail en Corian noir, un îlot central très 

pratique permettent de cuisiner tout en bavardant.
