ARCHBISHOP’S

ANNUAL APPEAL

Last week I spoke on the start of

the 2012 Archbishop’s Annual

Appeal. The appeal is something we

do every year because the needs are

ongoing and it is our opportunity to

share the gifts God gave us. This

year’s appeal theme is a simple, yet profound quote by

Mother Teresa, “Come Be My Light.”

In our Catholic faith we are all united through baptism,

in the one Body of Christ. However, unless our faith is put

into practice with concrete acts of mercy and

righteousness, it remains just an empty word, devoid of any

meaning. Our faith, if it is to be alive, must be intimately

connected with our concern for our neighbor and openness

to the needs of others. As Jesus was a light to others, so

must we radiate the light of our faith in the way we live and

steward the gifts God has given us.

One of the most meaningful ways we have to help

others is through the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal which

funds programs - beginning with the unborn and continuing

to the end of life - that provides guidance, support and

spiritual growth. In addition, the appeal makes

Archdiocesan programs possible which provide special

assistance for those unable to help themselves due to

emotional, language, illness or poverty issues.

In addition to all these other corporal works of mercy,

the Archdiocese provides guidance for construction

projects, legal issues, liturgical norms and other parish

needs. Saint Mary saw this first hand last year when we

were constructing our beautiful new house of worship, our

new church. The Office of Property Management were in

almost daily contact with me on the construction project.

They still are actively involved as we reconstruct our Parish

Center and move on plans to reconstruct the front of the

gymnasium. We on our own could never afford their

expertise.

I encourage all of our parishioners to do all you can do

to support the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. For the last 12

years, St. Mary has consistently been among the top

parishes. This year more than ever we are indebted for all

the support we received from the archdiocese to make our

dream come true and build a beautiful church.

Appeal envelopes are available in the rear of church or

from the parish office.

With God’s love and my prayers,

Father Mike
