Recently our office got an email from someone who works

for Community Living Guelph Wellington. They shared with

us that they have a few clients with developmental disabilities

who absolutely love music and asked if they could drop into

the Evergreen with about four individuals to listen and watch

our drummers, our line dancers, our choir. And our ringers.

The CLGW supports over five hundred people with a

developmental disability (age 18 plus) who live in Guelph

and Wellington County. They are funded by the Ministry of

Children, Community and Social Services and part of their

programming is to help their clients find connections and

opportunities within the community for learning, wellness,

recreation, volunteering and working. Although these young

people are not yet 55 years old, I gave permission for these

individuals to come to the Evergreen. I know that our

membership would welcome these guests because the core

values expressed in our Strategic Plan speaks to the value of

inclusiveness. Every day, our members, volunteers and staff

work to create a welcoming environment for those entering

the building. Social isolation became more common during

and even after the COVID-19 pandemic. People are social

creatures, and lacking support and contact with others can

contribute to loneliness, cognitive decline, anxiety, and

depression. Fostering a sense of belonging strengthens our

community, enhances social well-being and a sense of

belonging.

With the above in mind, and our aim to make friends,

keeping active and being involved, I hope you all have a very

Happy Holiday season and a Happy New Year with family

and friends. Stay safe.

OUR EVERGREEN LIBRARY

We are open

Monday to Friday 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

As you prepare for the end of year festive season, you may want to borrow a

book or two to read, relax and enjoy. Among our fiction collection, we have a

number of holiday season themed books that convey a celebration of this joyous

time of year. They are easy reading, and perhaps a departure from the style of

books that you usually read. They portray an uplifting sense of the season that is

intended to give you a smile as you enjoy the stories. So go for the smile and

check out one of these books.

Meanwhile, we wish you all the best for your time with family and friends this

holiday season.

Happy holidays!
